Anyone Can Hatch A Plan22 May 202500:45:36
In this episode, we find ourselves in the Kepler-22 system, where the survey and salvage vessel CSV Helix Wake is conducting operations on K-22-Δ6—a 200km-long metallic asteroid on a slow inbound solar trajectory. Its mass signature indicates extraordinarily dense superconductive material—potentially a jackpot for deep-space infrastructure. GlacioDyne’s deep-claim salvage division is funding the operation. The crew began mining operations just under 12 hours ago. But the last 90 minutes have been… strange. The asteroid has shifted. Not once—multiple times. Internal temperature is rising. There are tremors, electromagnetic spikes, and a low-frequency resonance from inside. You’ve been summoned to the bridge to make a decision: push forward with the mining, investigate further, or abandon the claim. Anyone Can Choose A Homeworld03 Oct 202400:49:55
This episode we find ourselves on WayStation 173 on the border with Jebarr space as tensions are rising. Whilst the conflict with the Jebarr ended over 35 years ago, numerous issues remain, with displaced colonists, scavenger vessels and conflicts over property rights. This committee is responsible for finding equitable solutions for the affected citizens on both sides. The planet ownership is in dispute between a UFR mining colony extracting exotic heavy metals from the planet’s surface and a Jebarr clan who claim the world as a traditional training ground. It is the committee’s job to resolve whose claim is the most valid. And remember that anything could happen. Committee Chairwoman K. Anything Could Be An Endangered Species25 Sep 202400:38:52
In this episode, the crew of the MSV Ansun has come to investigate a small terraforming colony that recently failed to respond to a regular check-in call, probably just equipment failure. But in space, Anything Could Happen! The MSV Ansun is in orbit around Gliese 163 c, just 49 light-years from Earth. This third planet in the system is a ‘Super-Earth’ planet in the light of a Red Dwarf in what could be described as the southern constellation of Dorado. This planet has an orbital period of just 26 days but a mass of 6.9 Earths and although it is technically in the star's habitable zone, the average temperature of 60 deg. C. It has an eccentricity estimated to be just 0.03, giving it a fairly circular orbit and polar areas that are significantly colder, closer to Earth’s temperate zones. What has happened to the colonists and why are they not responding to hails? We shall find out when Anything Could Happen. Anyone Could Break The Ice08 May 202500:34:41
In this episode, we find ourselves in the K2-18 system, orbiting K2-18b—a confirmed Hycean planet more than 100 light-years from Earth. With a surface cloaked in thick hydrogen-rich clouds, and a vast ice-covered ocean beneath, K2-18b has long been thought to be one of the most likely candidates for alien life. The UFR Research Icebreaker Louis S. St-Laurent has recently established orbit following the deployment of a new hydrogen-atmospheric descent rig—allowing limited surface access for the first time. But operating through the planet’s cloud layer is costly, risky, and requires corporate sponsorship. GlacioDyne, a deep-extraction conglomerate, has funded the mission. Their goal: authorise full ice crust penetration, enabling access to volatile-rich sublayers and potential energy sources. But just days ago, the science team detected something unexpected: Life. A vast colony of complex multicellular myco-gelid (ultra low-temperature adaptive fungal-like) organisms have been found embedded in the ice—potentially unique to K2-18b containing a unique organic chemistry What does this mean for the mission and who owns the rights for exploration? Well Anything Could Happen… CAST: Sabrina Stubbs (she/they): Project Commander: Carman Chris Payne (he/him): GlacioDyne Senior Engineer: John Woodrow Lucie Prunier (she/her): UFR Scientific Oversight Officer: Lucicl Hem Cleveland (she/her): Mission Science Lead: Benji Cople HOST: Oscar Clark EDITOR: Elliott Clark SCENARIO: Oscar Clark --- Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/kevin-macleod/new-direction License code: EOPCFS6UIIFJBVAL NOTES: Format and narrative background are adapted from 'WestPoint: Extra Planetary Academy' created by Oscar Clark with additional material by David Hankins ALL RIGHTS RESERVED © Stormlantern Productions 2025 AnythingCouldHappen Show is part of the Fable and Folly Network (https://fableandfolly.com/) Learn more about your ad choices. Anyone Can Get The Power They Need03 Sep 202400:35:21
This episode we find ourselves back in deep space in the territory of the future civilisation of the United Federal Republic. This time we find ourselves on the Diplomatic Deck of Starbase Proxima-147. We join an emergency session of the Attributions Committee who have to decide where to send urgently needed, potentially life-saving, resources. A batch of power crystals has arrived at the Starbase. There is currently a significant shortage of these resources - and rumours that previous batches have gone missing. The crystals are vital for military supply for patrol vessels, running civilian life-support and terraforming systems as well as various scientific applications. The committee has to decide where these resources will be allocated before the session ends. Anyone Could Get An Escape Pod29 Aug 202400:32:06
Welcome to the show where 'Anything Could Happen' - a real play experience where we pit the players against problems that have no simple answer, incomplete information and always against the clock This episode we find ourselves in deep space in the far future, an era of faster than light travel at the edge of the territory of a future civilisation known as the United Federal Republic. We join the remaining bridge crew of the Deep Space Vessel DSV Sheffield which was out on a routine patrol at the UFR border along edge of the Orion-Spur of the Milky Way. They have just survived an encounter with a new aggressive civilisation. The Malanki. The three smaller vessels attacked them without provocation and whilst the Sheffield defended itself valiantly, destroying the aggressors, the victory is a pyrrhic one and the captain knows that the ship is doomed. Most of the crew survived, making their way to the life-pods heading to a nearby habitable world but in a cruel twist of fate all of the other senior officers are amongst the lost leaving 114 inexperienced ratings. Now only four people remain on the command bridge. Anyone Could Trigger a Shake Down14 Aug 202500:34:58
In this episode, we’re in orbit above TOI-700 d, a lush Earth-like exoplanet orbiting a red dwarf star just over 100 light-years from Earth. The planet is home to the Tylash, a spacefaring but technically less advanced society with no historical baggage with the UFR or the old corporate blocs. The settlements on the planet surface are littered with a unique natural resource Weyl semimetals, a new class of quantum materials that have the physical appearance of metals but are poor conductors of electricity, and whose properties do not change when they are deformed. The commercial potential for which would be enormous as the exotic material has only previously been made in labs. However, extracting those materials would be devastating to the local communities. The Tylash have reached out as they have seismic data that predicted a once in a milena resonance cascade that threatens to destabilise a huge portion of their continent. Anyone Could Have The Right Stuff31 Jul 202500:39:02
In this episode, we’re inside the UFR Research Station Osiris, currently orbiting the Carina Nebula—a vast, real-world star-forming region over 7,500 light-years from Earth. Osiris is observing an interstellar anomaly known as Object 514-C, a self-repeating neutrino burst that may be the first observed remnant signal from a pre-galactic civilization. It’s a scientific posting of immense prestige - and potential danger. The anomaly occasionally disrupts local communications, and proximity to dark matter filaments poses a navigational hazard. Despite this, political pressure means the position of Orbital Administrator must be filled immediately. The UFR Recruitment Officer has 20 minutes to choose from three available candidates, each with impeccable qualifications...  but of course Anything Could Happen CAST: Ex-WSO Lieutenant Mike Lennox: António Salreta (he/him) Captain Anders Douglas: Chris Payne (he/him) Recruitment Officer Brian Smith: Adam Qutaishat (any/all) Xenophysics Specialist Dr Ady Lucamar: Lucie Prunier (she/her) HOST: Oscar Clark EDITOR & PRODUCER: Elliott Clark SCENARIO: Oscar Clark --- NOTES: Format and narrative background are adapted from 'WestPoint: Extra Planetary Academy' created by Oscar Clark with additional material by David Hankins ALL RIGHTS RESERVED © Stormlantern Productions 2025 AnythingCouldHappen Show is part of the Fable and Folly Network (https://fableandfolly.com/) Learn more about your ad choices. Anyone Can Go Too Far03 Jul 202500:36:43
In this episode, we find ourselves aboard the CSV Halcyon Wake, an independent civilian cargo vessel. You've intercepted a distress signal from the CSV Trillium Fold, a CoreHelix registered transport ship that vanished over 18 months ago. It’s drifting on minimal power in the Eos Molecular Cloud, a volume of space 300 Ly from Earth and just outside the standard Way Station network - making it off-map, off-registry, and completely silent. No signs of damage. No response to hails. Escape pods: gone. Life signs: negative. Manifest: redacted. You have just docked alongside the apparently abandoned vessel to investigate. You have 20 minutes until a “recovery” vessel, claiming authority under CoreHelix salvage licence, but they have not supplied any corroborating evidence. Anyone Could Be The Saboteur16 Jan 202600:28:41
The orbital reconnaissance base Erebus-4 has recently been deployed in orbit around the gas giant Upsilon Persei b. A devastating explosion has crippled the station’s reactor and communications. Radiation levels are climbing, indicating the risk of lethal exposure in 20 minutes. The crew are in the command centre and although there are living quarters these are inaccessible due to the damage to the explosion with sections opened to vacuum. The base has a prototype AI Analyst on board that has been observing ship movements by a Malanki fleet that recently arrived in a nearby system just 3Ly away. This is highly sensitive piece of equipment is integrated into the platform and must not be left exposed to hostile parties or corporate hands The most worrying part is the AI has raised the possibility of the explosion being sabotage - even potentially someone on board the vessel. Anyone Can Scan a Threat20 Nov 202500:34:15
A containment alert has sealed four crew members inside the cargo hold aboard the orbital research vessel Horizon Dawn above Gliese 832c. The cargo bay is quite large and has a self-contained vent system, now isolated from the main vessel. Whilst it is mostly an open space filled with various crates and equipment, there is a significant section specifically dedicated to exotic samples. That has basic quarantine systems, but they are on the blink. The ship’s AI reports an unauthorized organism moving through the vents in the cargo hold and has triggered Quarantine Protocols. And the aged systems on the base have failed to recognise that there are people stuck inside.
