The Ghost in the Shell saga continues with Mamoru Oshii's sequel to the 1995 cyberpunk classic. Ghost in the Shell 2 is an incredibly ambitious (and expensive) film, yet it can come across as a bit unfriendly to general audiences due to its dense narrative themes and trippy visuals.

And in the more than twenty years since Innocence's theatrical release, the project has yet to re-coup its production budget.

We are pleased to welcome returning guests, Jamaal and Jack from the 950Club Podcast!

Sword of the Demon Hunter is a historical drama, action anime that we think was undeservedly dropped by most of the anime community because of shallow comparisons to the juggernaut that is Demon Slayer.

Jinya's tragic origins and his quest for revenge transforms into a decades-spanning epic journey of self-discovery and purpose. Jinya's story is full of twists and turns, love and loss, and we think this show could really find an audience amongst the more discerning anime fans.

So, like any good podcaster we took to our microphones and (hopefully) lined out several reasons why we think the show is worth your attention!

Samurai Troopers is an era-defining bishonen classic of the late 80's, created and animated by the fine folks at Sunrise during the height of their popularity as a mecha anime studio.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is a highly ambitious cyberpunk police drama series by Production I.G. and the full directorial debut of Kenji Kamiyama.

And it is my favorite anime! What better way to celebrate my (second) first year of podcasting?!

My review specifically concerns season 1 (2002) as this was originally produced to build up advance hype for Mamoru Oshii's follow-up film, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

But thanks to the popularity of Stand Alone Complex at home and overseas, Production I.G. greenlit a second season for 2004 that has enough of a staff shake-up that I will cover "Second G.I.G." in a later episode.
