But first, we’ve got starting quarterback announcements.

Miller Moss was named USC’s starter, and Texas transfer Maalik Murphy was named Duke’s starter.

Plus, Fansville is back!

Then Dan and Ty join for our game. Andy makes three statements, and Dan and Ty have to identify which is the lie.

Here are a few of the topics:

The Big Ten

Oregon and Ohio State will play at least twice this season

Nebraska at Iowa will have College Football Playoff implications

USC will finish above .500 in Big Ten play

The SEC

Either Texas or Oklahoma will make the SEC title game

Either Texas or Oklahoma will finish .500 or worse in league play

Georgia will lose two road games

The conferences

A team will win a conference title in its first year in its new league

The national champion will not play in a conference title game

At least two power conference title games will be rematches of regular-season games

Can you spot the lies?

How much does NIL REALLY factor in recruiting/transfer choices? | Which QB will Texas land in 2025?11 Apr 202401:05:06

It’s a very special Dear Andy, because we’re joined by On3’s newest star. Steve Wiltfong, the greatest recruiting reporter on the planet, has joined the company as the VP of recruiting and transfer portal.

Steve and Andy will answer your questions, including…

(0:00-2:02) Intro with Steve Wiltfong

(2:03-5:42) Bear Alexander - Transfer Portal Update

(5:43-9:02) John Calipari Introduced at Arkansas

(9:03-16:35) NIL with 4 & 5 Stars

(16:36-24:38) Keeping Up with Spring Football

(24:39-32:31) Dabo Swinney Strategy

(32:32-39:04) Blue Bloods and Final Four in Basketball Arena?

(39:05-48:08) Texas Recruiting Update

(48:09-54:11) Josh Allen's Recruiting

(54:12-56:04) Coach's Contracts

(56:05-1:01:33) Nathan Asks a Question with a Special Guest - Congrats Nathan!

(1:01:34-1:04:08) Conclusion with Steve

(1:04:09-1:05:06) Wrapping Up

For four- and five-star recruits, what percent of decisions are coming down to an extra 10-20 percent of NIL? Or is it even possible to know?

With Dabo Swinney’s refusal to embrace the transfer portal, do you think it is at all possible for him and Clemson to return to the success that they were at a few years ago? Is he a good enough recruiter and/or developer of talent to not need the transfer portal at all? And do you think there is any coach in the country who could succeed with this strategy (not taking players from the portal) besides Dabo?

Which quarterback will Texas land for the class of 2025?

What’s the most important thing to look for in a spring game?

John Calipari says GOODBYE to Kentucky | The transfer portal bubbles | Georgia spring game preview10 Apr 202401:07:09

John Calipari has said goodbye to Kentucky but has yet to officially say hello to Arkansas. Andy breaks down farewell videos from John and Ellen Calipari and handicaps the Kentucky hoops coaching search.

(0:00-20:05) Intro - Calipari Confirms He's Leaving Kentucky

(20:06-24:17) Transfer Portal Ramping Back Up - Bear Alexander

(24:18-28:49) Oregon State RB Damien Martinez to enter

(28:50-30:40) Indiana State's Robbie Avila to enter portal

(30:41-37:14) Florida State vs ACC Update

(37:15-1:05:49) Jake Rowe from Dawgs HQ joins

(1:05:50-1:07:09) Dear Andy Tomorrow! andystapleson3@gmail.com

Meanwhile, the football transfer portal is about to get some action. The window for undergraduate transfers doesn’t open until Monday, but two big names indicated on Tuesday that they plan to enter the portal when it opens. USC defensive tackle Bear Alexander — perhaps the biggest mover in last year’s spring portal when he went from Georgia to the Trojans — plans to move again. Meanwhile, Oregon State tailback Damien Martinez — who averaged 6.1 yards a carry for the Beavers last year — also plans to enter the portal.

The basketball portal remains busy as well. Indiana State’s Robbie Avila — affectionately known as Cream Abdul-Jabbar or Larry Nerd — has entered his name into the portal. Is he following former Sycamores coach Josh Schertz to Saint Louis? Or is he looking elsewhere?

In a Tallahassee courtroom, a judge denied the ACC’s request to stay Florida State’s lawsuit against the league. A North Carolina judge denied Florida State’s request last week to stay the ACC’s suit against the Seminoles in that state. That means things are about to get pretty messy, and the suits involving Clemson and the ACC in South Carolina and North Carolina haven’t even gotten rolling yet.

Next, Jake Rowe of On3’s Dawgs HQ previews Georgia’s spring game. The Bulldogs are loaded again, but how exactly will they replace production from stars such as Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey?

UConn BLASTS Purdue to make it two consecutive national titles | Waiting on Coach Cal and Arkansas09 Apr 202401:07:05

UConn is the national champion for the second consecutive season after dominating Purdue in the national title game on Monday night. Boilermakers star Zach Edey scored 37 points, but the Huskies held Purdue to only seven 3-point shots all game, and Purdue only made one. Meanwhile, four UConn starters scored in double figures. Guard Tristen Newton led the way with 20 points.

(0:00-4:18) Intro - UConn wins back to back titles

(4:19-27:09) James Fletcher III Joins to recap UConn's run

(27:10-30:14) Calipari and Arkansas Update

(30:15-43:33) Kentucky's New Head Coach

(43:34-48:21) Calipari's Fit in Fayetteville

(48:22-49:01) Georgia Update Tomorrow

(49:02-59:07) Clemson Update

(59:08-1:02:37) Conclusion

(1:02:38-1:05:57) Update from Dukes the Scoop and the Five Star Flex

(1:05:58-1:07:04) Nakosifications on the Way, Talk to you tomorrow

Where does UConn rank among the nation’s top programs after six national titles since 1999? Where does Huskies coach Dan Hurley rank among basketball coaches working today? On3’s James Fletcher III helps Andy break it down.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for official word that John Calipari is leaving Kentucky for Arkansas. That should come Tuesday, but a few potential Kentucky candidates have already removed their names from consideration.

(32:40-58:17) Dawn Staley, South Carolina win the National Championship, Mike Uva joins

(58:18-1:09:45) National Title Game Preview with James Fletcher III

(1:09:46-1:10:45) Conclusion: Tennessee hires Kim Caldwell as next women's basketball coach

ESPN and multiple Arkansas media outlets are reporting that Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari is in talks to take the same job at Arkansas. Calipari, who has been under fire at Kentucky for early NCAA Tournament exits, would reset his clock. Arkansas would get the splash hire it desires after losing Eric Musselman to USC. Kentucky, meanwhile, gets to hire a new coach without paying Calipari a penny. Andy and On3's James Fletcher III discuss what it all means.

On Sunday, South Carolina avenged its last loss and capped a perfect season with an 87-75 win against Iowa in Sunday’s national title game. Mike Uva of On3’s Gamecock Central joins to discuss how coach Dawn Staley’s team maintained its dominance all season. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark finished her college career with a 30-point game, but it wasn’t enough to slow the Gamecocks.

Mike also fills us in on South Carolina’s spring football practice. The Gamecocks are coming off a 5-7 season and face a rough schedule that includes games against LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss and Oklahoma.

James returns to preview Monday’s men’s national title game. We’re getting the best big man matchup in years in 7-foot-4 Purdue center Zach Edey versus 7-2 UConn center Donovan Clingan. The Huskies have mauled every team in their path the past two NCAA tournaments. Can the Boilermakers keep them from repeating?

(1:03:37-1:09:29) FInal Four PICKS

(1:09:30-1:10:06) Conclusion - Have a good weekend, see you Monday!

It’s a packed Friday! We’ve got two Final Fours to talk about. We’ve also got some football.

It’s Iowa against UConn and South Carolina against N.C. State in the women’s Final Four, and all eyes are on Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and UConn’s Paige Bueckers. Clark always wanted to play for UConn, but Bueckers was the prized player the Huskies recruited in the class of 2020. Only one will lead her team to the national title game.

Meanwhile, two N.C. State basketball teams are trying to shock the world. The N.C. State women play undefeated South Carolina, while the Wolfpack men will face Purdue on Saturday.

We’ll also be talking N.C. State football. The Wolfpack play their spring game on Saturday, and so does Clemson. So we’re bringing in the great Roddy Jones of the ACC Network to discuss the biggest storylines in the league. And Roddy is very intrigued by new N.C. State quarterback Grayson McCall.

Also, Nebraska’s quarterbacks met the media Thursday, which meant we got to see freshman Dylan Raiola’s first interview as a Cornhusker. Andy breaks it down.

Next, On3’s James Fletcher III joins to discuss the men’s Final Four. Can UConn keep covering every spread, or can Alabama challenge the Huskies in a shootout? How will the matchup of N.C. State’s D.J. Burns Jr. and Purdue’s Zach Edey play out?

(0:00-13:59) Intro - Super League Discussion

(14:00-29:59) Andrew Marchand from the Athletic joins to discuss the Super League

(30:00-33:51) Dear Andy Intro

(33:52-43:56) TV Ratings and Caitlin Clark

(43:57-53:09) Zach Edey

(53:10-58:14) Marvin Harrison Jr and Malik Nabers... Next AJ Green and Julio Jones?

(1:08:28-1:12:47) Delegation Question from Producer River

(1:12:48-1:13:43) Conclusion

It’s a Dear Andy show, but first we’ve got to talk about a very interesting development. The Athletic reported on Wednesday that a group of movers and shakers — including multiple university presidents, a key search firm executive and a high-ranking NFL executive — are trying to create a college football super league that would provide a workable path forward (read: less lawsuits) while also not cutting out more than half the current FBS teams.

The idea, brought forward by a group that includes NFL No. 2 Brian Rolapp and search firm executive Len Perna, would include all the current FBS programs but would be split into multiple divisions. There would be promotion and relegation between divisions. The league would serve as the employer for the players and would collectively bargain with the players.

Andrew Marchand, who wrote The Athletic story along with Stewart Mandel, joins to discuss why they’re going public now and if there is any real chance this might happen. Spoiler alert: The Big Ten, the SEC and the TV networks do not seem supportive.

Next, Andy answers your questions:

How many college football games in 2024 will have more viewers than the LSU-Iowa women’s Elite Eight game played Monday?

Is there a college football equivalent to the way referees call games involving Purdue basketball star Zach Edey?

How many games does Kalen DeBoer have to win in year one at Alabama to keep the fanbase happy?

And much, much more…

(5:11-18:59) Jesse Simonton Joins

(19:00-23:32) What Teams can win it all?

(23:33-43:47) Which Stone do you choose?

(43:48-45:47) Conclusion with Jesse

(45:48-1:09:14) Spencer Holbrook joins to discuss Ohio State

(1:09:15-1:11:31) Conclusion/Wrapping Up - Dear Andy Tomorrow! andystapleson3@gmail.com

On3 national writer Jesse Simonton joins Andy to debate which teams have a real chance to win the 2024 college football national title. Jesse wrote a column this week detailing which teams had real chances to be the first champion to emerge from a 12-team College Football Playoff.

That format matters a lot. A team now must win at least three and possibly four consecutive games against the best of the best to claim the national title. Who is deep enough to survive that gauntlet? But Andy wonders if any team is deep enough in the transfer portal era to avoid a surprise loss.

Next, Spencer Holbrook of On3’s Lettermen Row joins to talk Ohio State as the Buckeyes — one of the teams that definitely belong on the can-win-the-national-title-list — continue spring practice. This is the most loaded Ohio State roster in years, but how do the pieces fit together? Is Kansas State transfer Will Howard definitely QB1, or does Devin Brown still have a chance? How does Alabama transfer Caleb Downs change the defense? Is receiver Jeremiah Smith, the nation’s top recruit in the class of 2024, as good as advertised?

(39:25-1:00:31) Jim Nagy joins to discuss DJ Burns, NFL Draft

(1:00:32-1:01:46) Conclusion - Checking in on Ohio State tomorrow!

Caitlin Clark dominated the national title game rematch between Iowa and LSU. Clark scored 41 points, dished out 12 assists and grabbed seven rebounds as the Hawkeyes beat the Tigers 94-87 to advance to the Final Four in Cleveland.

Kyle Huesmann of The Hawkeye Report was in Albany for the fireworks, and he joins Andy to discuss a game that was a classic for a half before LSU went cold from the floor.

Next, Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy joins Andy to play one of Andy’s favorite games: Which March Madness star could make a fortune in the NFL? This year’s candidate is N.C. State big man D.J. Burns, who might have missed his calling as a cornerstone left tackle (he’s also VERY good at basketball).

Jim also weighs in on the Marvin Harrison Jr./Malik Nabors WR1 debate and updates us on the draft stock of Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix and Spencer Rattler.

(44:13-53:57) Alabama vs UConn

(53:58-59:54) Wrapping Up with James Fletcher

(59:55-1:03:13) Conclusion

HUGE GUEST ALERT: Andy visited with new Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa, and DeBoer explained how he plans to attack replacing the GOAT Nick Saban. DeBoer talked about the unique challenge of taking over an ultra-successful program rather than one that changed coaches because things weren’t working.

DeBoer discussed how he wants the offense to look, and he went over the learning curve for quarterback Jalen Milroe and the rest of Alabama’s signal-callers. DeBoer also went in-depth on how important it was to get recruits to Tuscaloosa this spring so they could see for themselves that while the coaching staff is new, the standard at Alabama hasn’t changed.

Next, Andy and On3’s James Fletcher III break down the Elite Eight games and look forward to the Final Four. Is the matchup of N.C. State’s D.J. Burns Jr. and Purdue’s Zach Edey the most fun clash we’ve seen in the post in a Final Four game this century? Can Alabama and its rotating cast of stars be the team that finally challenges UConn in a tournament game? Or will the Huskies keep rolling into the national title game?

(49:19-54:09) Midwest Region - Tennessee vs Creighton

(54:10-59:55) Purdue vs Gonzaga

(59:56-1:00:16) Conclusion

Half the Elite Eight is set and if Thursday is any indication, Friday will be a wild night of basketball. Andy and On3’s James Fletcher III break it all down.

For possibly the first time all season, Alabama’s defense matched its offense and the Crimson Tide beat North Carolina in a thriller that ended with multiple Grant Nelson blocks. Alabama will face Clemson, which beat Arizona on a night when the Wildcats inexplicably kept shooting threes that wouldn’t go down when easier scoring options were available.

In the East Region, Illinois is headed to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2005 after beating Iowa State. The Cyclones brought their usual suffocating defense, but the Illini matched it and Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 29 and helped seal the win with a breakaway dunk.

Illinois will face defending national champ Connecticut in the Elite Eight. The Huskies went cold late in the first half Thursday but roared to life in the second half and crushed San Diego State by 30 in a rematch of last season’s national title game.

Friday, South No. 1 seed Houston plays Duke, while Marquette plays tourney darling N.C. State. In the Midwest region, Tennessee plays Creighton and top-seeded Purdue plays Gonzaga.

(51:29-1:18:25) Ole Miss Deep Dive

(1:18:26-1:19:41) Conclusion - See you tomorrow!

The week one (and two) lines have been updated, and Andy is breaking down what Vegas thinks about Georgia-Clemson, Miami-Florida, Notre Dame-Texas A&M and more.

But first, Andy gives his against-the-spread pick for Florida State and Georgia Tech in Dublin on Saturday. That’s right! There is actual football happening THIS WEEK!

Next, Tyler Horka of On3’s BlueAndGold.com joins to discuss Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish prepare to open their season at Texas A&M. How will the Irish adjust to losing left tackle Charles Jagusah for the season? How much better can the receiving corps be? How deep is the defense?

Later, Ben Garrett of On3’s OM Spirit drops by to talk about who has made the best impression during Ole Miss preseason practice. We know all about Walter Nolen, but could a player who transferred before last season (but only played in the bowl game) have just as big an impact on the Rebels’ defense?

It’s a Dear Andy show, but first we’ve got some news and a very special guest.

NCAA president Charlie Baker wants sportsbooks to stop taking prop bets involving college athletes.

LSU receiver Malik Nabors ran a blazing 40-yard dash at the Tigers’ pro day. Could he be the first receiver off the board, or will it be Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr.?

Next, Tennessee center Cooper Mays joins Andy to talk manning the middle of one of the fastest offenses in college football. How different might the Volunteers look with Nico Iamaleava at quarterback? Mays also explains what it’s like to snap and then try to block a 330-pound future first-rounder.

Next, it’s time for Andy to answer your questions…

Is this quarterback draft class closer to 1983 or 1999?

If Kentucky is the best job in college football, what is the best job in college basketball?

Which college football offenses will be the most improved in 2024?

And more…

5:09 Lance Leipold Interview

30:58 Lance Leipold Wrap Up

34:38 Nick Roush Joins the Show to update Calipari

1:00:23 Conclusion with Calipari

Lance Leipold has worked a miracle at Kansas, and he explains how what he learned coaching in Division III ultimately helped him turn the worst program in the power conferences into a team that went 9-4 last season and kept together a core that will enter the 2024 season expecting big things.

The Jayhawks are adjusting to change, though. Penn State hired away offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, and Leipold hired veteran coordinator Jeff Grimes to take over an offense led by human highlight reel Jalon Daniels. Kansas also will be playing its games in Kansas City while the Jayhawks’ home stadium is being rebuilt in Lawrence. A time traveler from 2019 wouldn’t believe one of the clauses that was written into the contract with the Chiefs’ stadium.

Next, Andy and Nick Roush of Kentucky Sports Radio break down the John Calipari situation at Kentucky. Calipari is scheduled to meet with Wildcats athletic director Mitch Barnhart on Tuesday, but Calipari’s appearance on his radio show Monday night certainly seems to suggest he’s coming back for another season. That’s going to frustrate a lot of the fanbase. What does Calipari need to do to win back that group? And more importantly, what does he need to do to get out of the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament?

57:05 Louisville Update, Conclusion - Lance Leipold tomorrow!

Before we talk hoops, a little football news. Georgia running back Trevor Etienne, who just arrived from Florida, was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with DUI. Meanwhile, USC had a big recruiting day Sunday as the Trojans try to address their defensive issues. They flipped a defensive tackle from Georgia and landed commitments from a highly rated edge rusher and safety for the class of 2025.

The Sweet 16 is set, and it’s pretty chalky. But it took a miraculous overtime escape by South No. 1 seed Houston against Texas A&M to get there. The Cougars had four players foul out Sunday night and still managed to pull off a 100-95 win. Also, On3’s James Fletcher III caught a leg whip from Houston’s J’Wan Roberts when Roberts dove over press row for a loose ball in overtime.

James joins Andy to talk about the wild finish in Memphis and the rest of the tournament action…

UConn looks like a machine that could roll to a second consecutive national title…

Purdue dispatched Northwestern with ease.

North Carolina handled Michigan State.

Chalk in the round of 32 means big matchups in the Sweet 16. Andy and James get you ready for Alabama-North Carolina, Houston-Duke, Purdue-Gonzaga and Illinois-Iowa State.

Plus, Michigan hires Dusty May away from Florida Atlantic.

Also, Kentucky hasn’t made a decision regarding John Calipari yet. That could happen early this week.

52:46 Conclusion: Happy March Madness

The Madness began in earnest Thursday with an upset that sent shockwaves throughout college basketball. The one thing Kentucky coach John Calipari couldn’t do was lose to Oakland and he… lost to Oakland. On3’s James Fletcher III joins to discuss the biggest story in the sport and the rest of Thursday’s action.

Kentucky hasn’t made the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2019, and seemingly the entire Kentucky fanbase has turned against Calipari. But his buyout is massive. The Jimbo Fisher parallels are strong, right down to the amount it will take to fire him.

Meanwhile, Oakland coach Greg Kampe, who has coached the Golden Grizzlies for 40 YEARS, notched his biggest win as a head coach. Not to be outdone, soon-to-retire Duquesne coach Keith Dambrot notched another one for the longtime veteran coaches as the Dukes upset No. 6 seed BYU.

Gonzaga dispatched mid-major darling McNeese with shocking ease, and Oregon showed again that its a different team when healthy by beating No. 6 seed South Carolina.

What fun will Friday bring? Andy and James will help set you up for all the action.

Syracuse coach Fran Brown will have you ready to COMMIT | Clemson sues ACC | Proctor leaves Iowa20 Mar 202401:08:46

We have a great interview with new Syracuse head coach Fran Brown, but first we’ve got to examine two HUGE news stories that broke Tuesday.

(0:00-2:12) Intro

(2:13-6:13) OL Kadyn Proctor is Heading BACK to Alabama after a brief stint at Iowa

(6:14-12:45) Clemson Sues the ACC Preview

(12:46-31:53) Syracuse Head Coach Fran Brown joins

(31:54-34:11) Syracuse 2024 Schedule

(34:12-48:09) Kentucky Basketball before March with Nick Roush

(48:10-1:05:13) Deep Dive into Clemson Suing the ACC with Pete Nakos

(1:05:14-1:08:46) Conclusion - Wednesday's First Four Picks

First, Clemson sued the ACC in a South Carolina court in an attempt to clarify whether the grant of rights all the ACC schools agreed to is legally binding. The Tigers joined Florida State, which sued the ACC in December in a Florida court. (The ACC filed a preemptive lawsuit against the Seminoles in North Carolina).

Next, offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor appears headed BACK to Alabama after transferring to Iowa earlier this offseason. Proctor started all 14 games for the Crimson Tide at left tackle as a true freshman in 2023, but he entered the transfer portal shortly after Nick Saban retired and headed back to his home state. He told Iowa coaches this week that he intended to re-enter the portal, and he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Tuesday night that he intends to re-enroll at Alabama.

Later, new Syracuse coach Brown joins the show to explain why he’ll chase the same five-star recruits at Syracuse that he chased as a Georgia assistant. He also explains why his relationships helped him reshape the Orange roster very quickly. After hearing Brown’s philosophy, you’re probably going to be very high on Syracuse next year.

Next, Nick Roush of Kentucky Sports Radio joins to preview Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats haven’t made the second weekend of the tourney since 2019, but John Calipari’s team is capable of going deep in the tourney this year. But it’s also inconsistent enough to duck out in one of the first two rounds, and that’s what makes this team such an adventure to watch.

After Nick, On3 national reporter Pete Nakos joins to break down Clemson’s lawsuit against the ACC. The Tigers’ suit has some similarities to the one filed by Florida State, but Clemson attacks from a few different angles as well. Does this mean the best brands leaving the ACC is inevitable? It does, but we’ve been telling you that for months.

How will the ascension of Nico Iamaleava to the starting quarterback role change Tennessee’s offense? Can the Vols be more explosive than they were last year, when a Joe Milton-led group took a step back from the previous year’s Hendon Hooker-led group? Plus, how much will having one of the nation’s deepest defensive lines help a group that struggled to get off the field on third-and-long plays last season?

FanDuel has set Tennessee’s win total at 8.5. The over certainly seems reachable, but the bigger question is whether the Vols can go over by more than one win. If they can, they might be a College Football Playoff team.

Next, Sean Callahan of On3’s Husker Online joins to break down a wild week in Nebraska. Last week, athletic director Trev Alberts — a former Nebraska football star — shocked the school by leaving for the same job at Texas A&M. On Monday, football coach Matt Rhule tried to rally Nebraska supporters who felt gut-punched by the move. Rhule showed he has mastered the political aspects of the Nebraska football job. He reassured the fan base while also encouraging greater donation and investment. He also staked his claim to having an even bigger voice in athletic department and school leadership.

Now, he needs to get his team ready to win some games. Because if he can add wins to his political savvy, Rhule could have a very productive tenure at Nebraska.

The bracket has been revealed, and the 2024 NCAA men's basketball tournament is set. Andy and On3's resident bracketologist James Fletcher III break down each region.

Who is ripe for a first-round upset? Is it Gonzaga against McNeese? Auburn against Yale? Washington State against Drake? Clemson against New Mexico?

Will Purdue and star big man Zach Edey copy 2019 Virginia and follow losing to a No. 16 seed the previous year by winning the national title? Or will Connecticut become the first repeat champ since Florida in 2007? Is there a No. 1 seed that won't survive the first weekend this year?

Who will be the stars of the tournament? Will Terrence Shannon Jr. of llinois score in bunches? Will N.C. State's 275-pound senior D.J. Burns help engineer an upset of Texas Tech? Will McNeese's Shahada Wells be a household name next week?

We’ll get to your primer on the college basketball season, but first a little football news. The commissioners who run the College Football Playoff have agreed on a revenue split and a TV deal for the CFP beyond 2026, but they haven’t settled on a format. The 14-team model commissioners had proposed is not a sure thing because ESPN doesn’t want to pay more for additional games.

Now it’s time to talk about a postseason tournament that knows what it is. On3’s resident bracketologist James Fletcher III joins to help make you sound like an expert this weekend as you drink green beer and watch the NCAA Tournament bracket reveal.

We’ll take you through the 2023-24 basketball season from the start to this weekend. We’ll remind you of the established stars (Purdue’s Zach Edey, North Carolina’s Armando Bacot) and introduce you to the new stars (Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht, Indiana State’s Robbie Avila).

James will break down the teams on the bubble and explain who has a chance to make the field with another conference tournament win or two. We’ll also be on the lookout for any bid thieves.

James also will take you through the top of the seed lines and fill you in on the teams that could wind up in the Final Four if they get hot next week.

Will Howard CHOSEN as Ohio State's QB1 | Arkansas DC T-Will is the freshest MC in the coaching game16 Aug 202401:17:06

The scarlet smoke you saw coming out of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center means Ohio State has a new starting quarterback. Coach Ryan Day officially — but not surprisingly — named Will Howard the Buckeyes’ starter on Thursday.

(0:00-9:29) Intro: Will Howard named Ohio State's Starting QB

(1:06:36-1:13:33) Iowa TE Luke Lachey joins

(1:13:34-1:17:06) Conclusion, J.D. PicKell and JP Pickles?

Meanwhile, there’s a little more detail in the Jaden Rashada-Billy Napier lawsuit. And as if on cue, Thursday also brought bad news for the company run by the Miami booster who was bankrolling the deal Rashada was supposed to get at that school.

Auburn’s director of football equipment explained how the new in-helmet communication system will work.

Arkansas defensive coordinator Travis Williams joins the show to discuss his freestyle rap that went viral and earned him praise from Snoop Dogg and, more importantly, made him more beloved by his players. T-Will also explains what "Embrace the Hog" actually means.

Later, Tennessee center Cooper Mays and defensive tackle Omari Thomas explain why the Volunteers are better on both lines of scrimmage than they’ve been in a long time.

Also, Iowa linebacker Jay Higgins and tight end Luke Lachey join to explain why the Hawkeyes could be a sneaky College Football Playoff contender.

Ole Miss DE Jared Ivey schools us on The Ivey League | FAU coach Tom Herman joins from paradise13 Mar 202400:57:59

Ole Miss defensive end Jared Ivey joins the show to talk about the great expectations for the Rebels in 2024. Ivey, who hosts his own (excellent) show called The Ivey League, explains how even though Ole Miss has thrived using the transfer portal, players like himself — Ivey came from Georgia Tech prior to the 2022 season — and others have put down roots in Oxford and created a winning culture. A group of those older players decided this past offseason to wait on the NFL and run it back following an 11-win season.

(56:37-57:59) Conclusion - Dear Andy tomorrow!

Next, Florida Atlantic coach Tom Herman visits to discuss year two with the Owls. Herman, the former Texas and Houston head coach, returned to college football last season at FAU and immediately had to deal with jumping up to the American Athletic Conference. Following a 4-8 first season, Herman and the Owls grabbed QB Cam Fancher — a multi-year starter at Marshall — from the transfer portal.

(29:41-53:48) Tim Watts from BamaOnline joins

(53:49-55:42) Drew Pyne transferring to Missouri

(55:43-56:22) Conclusion

MASSIVE GUEST ALERT: Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman joins the show as the Fighting Irish start spring practice for Freeman’s third season at the helm in South Bend. Freeman discusses reuniting with offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, who coached Jayden Daniels to the Heisman Trophy last year at LSU. Freeman also talks about hiring a strength coach and how important that position is.

Freeman explains how he’s handling the quarterbacks after getting transfer Riley Leonard from Duke. Freeman also discusses how the Irish plan to replace offensive tackles Joe Alt and Blake Fisher.

Next, Tim Watts of On3’s BamaOnline joins to discuss how wildly different the program feels under new coach Kalen DeBoer. They’re playing music at practice, which Nick Saban didn’t do. They’re letting assistant coaches do interviews. Nick Saban didn’t do that, either.

But DeBoer was never going to work exactly like Saban did. But he’s alike in some ways. The Crimson Tide had a massive wave of visitors in the first week of spring practice, and it appears they’re ready to compete for the same kind of players they did under Saban.

(1:01:13-1:03:06) Conclusion - Marcus Freeman tomorrow!

Oklahoma coach Brent Venables joins to discuss getting ready for the SEC and building on a 10-win season. Venables has revamped the roster since arriving before the 2022 season, but he’s managed to keep the core of his defense intact. Meanwhile, the Sooners must break in an almost completely new offensive line as former five-star recruit Jackson Arnold takes the reins at quarterback. It’s a year of transformation in Norman, and how is Venables handling the process?

Next, On3’s resident bracketologist James Fletcher III stops by to talk about some of the filled NCAA Tournament bracket spots and all the ones remaining. Stetson (Atlantic Sun), Longwood (Big South), Drake (Missouri Valley) and Morehead State (Ohio Valley) have punched their tickets. Drake’s win against Indiana State means Robbie Avila — AKA Larry Nerd AKA Cream Abdul-Jabbar — is at the mercy of the selection committee. Can the Sycamores get an at-large? Meanwhile, power conference tournaments begin this week. Who can get a bid with a deep run, and who needs to win the whole thing?

New Washington coach Jedd Fisch joins the show to discuss taking over a team that played for the national title two months ago but only returns two starters. How did Fisch put together a staff that includes former Patriots defensive coordinator Steve Belichick? How weird was it taking over a program that had already signed a recruiting class (while Fisch had signed one at Arizona)? How are the preparations for joining the Big Ten going?

On3’s resident bracketologist James Fletcher III visits to preview the final weekend of regular-season play in the power conferences and a weekend of tournament action in the mid-majors. Robbie Avila — AKA Cream Abdul-Jabbar or Larry Nerd — and the Indiana State Sycamores face Missouri State on Friday in the Missouri Valley Conference. On Saturday, Kentucky faces Tennessee, North Carolina faces Duke and Kansas faces Houston in massive power conference regular-season finales.

It’s a Dear Andy show, but with a twist. Ralph Russo, the national college football writer for The Associated Press and the keeper of the AP Top 25, joins to help Andy answer questions.

Which teams that have high expectations in 2024 may not live up to those expectations? Andy and Ralph believe Missouri and Michigan are being expected to do a lot after losing a lot.

Can Andy (or Ralph) guess the 11 power conference College Football Playoff participants by only naming 15 teams?

If the courts keep striking down NCAA rules, would any rule be sacred? Could a player go to court to be allowed to keep playing college football?

Why has Nebraska been able to stay interesting to people across the country even though the Cornhuskers haven’t been successful on the field recently?

(1:09:23-1:12:13) Conclusion: A comment from a fan sparks tomorrow's show topic

Our friends at Fanduel have set the season total for LSU at 9.5 wins, which basically asks this question: Do you think the Tigers will make the College Football Playoff or not? Shea Dixon of On3’s The Bengal Tiger joins to break down an offense replacing huge stars and a radically revamped defense.

LSU opens the season in Las Vegas against USC and finishes it with a conference game against Oklahoma. Can the Tigers improve enough defensively to hit double digits in wins in the regular season?

Next, Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy joins to break down what he saw at the NFL Combine. Nagy was there for Texas receiver Xavier Worthy’s record-breaking 4.21-second 40-yard dash. Nagy also watched as some of the players who shined during Senior Bowl week (Florida State DT Braden Fiske and Toledo CB Quinyon Mitchell) turned in workouts that should elevate them on every team’s draft board.

Cole Cubelic (ESPN, McElroy and Cubelic, Cube Show) joins Andy to talk about a very interesting nugget that UAB coach Trent Dilfer dropped on Cole's radio show. Dilfer thinks the schism between the Big Ten/SEC and the rest of the FBS is coming soon, perhaps within the next 18 months.

That a sitting FBS coach would say this is interesting enough, but Dilfer spent enough time working at ESPN to know a lot of the people who move the levers that make these things happen. Plus, everything else has happened faster than expected, so perhaps things could move this fast.

Andy and Cole discuss what such a league might look like. Would it be 50 or 60 teams or something smaller? Who could be included? What would happen to the rest of the FBS?

With court cases still looming, schools exploring the idea of partnering with private equity firms and further realignment still on the horizon, could everything look different by 2026?

Plus, Andy discusses Iowa star Caitlin Clark breaking the NCAA's all-time scoring record. Nike was ready with a congratulatory ad, and the Hawkeyes avenged an earlier loss to No. 2 Ohio State.

Next, On3's James Fletcher III joins Andy to talk college basketball. Tennessee's win at Alabama on Saturday might be enough to move the Volunteers onto the NCAA Tournament selection committee's No. 1 seed line. Gonzaga won a critical game at St. Mary's.

Also, can Ohio State interim coach Jake Diebler possibly get the Buckeyes into the NCAA Tournament.

Plus, which low-major and mid-major conference tournament No. 1 seeds should be on upset watch this week?

(1:13-7:39) Guaranteed Byes for the SEC and Big Ten in CFP?

(7:40-40:42) Checking in on Penn State with Sean Fitz from Blue White Illustrated

(40:43-56:26) James Fletcher III joins to discuss bubble watch

(56:27-1:02:29) Conclusion: NFL Combine Update

Penn State has won double-digit games five times since 2016 but has yet to make the College Football Playoff. With the CFP expanding to 12 this season, is this the year the Nittany Lions finally break in? If you believe they’ll go over 9.5 wins, then you believe they’ll make the CFP.

The question is this: How excited will fans be if Penn State is still only the third-best team in the Big Ten? Would making the CFP change the calculation? Sean Fitz of On3’s Blue and White Illustrated joins to answer these questions and more. Penn State has two new coordinators and perhaps the most interesting schedule it has had since before it joined the Big Ten. There is much to discuss.

Next, On3’s James Fletcher III joins to preview a critical weekend in college basketball. Has Kentucky turned the corner after smashing Alabama and winning on a buzzer-beater at Mississippi State? Also, Tennessee heads to Tuscaloosa for a game that could help determine NCAA Tournament seeding.

Kansas heads to Waco to face Baylor in a clash of Big 12 titans. Marquette and Creighton play in a key Big East game in Omaha. Out west, Gonzaga faces St. Mary’s in the West Coast Conference finale. Lose, and the Bulldogs might need to win the WCC Tournament to make the NCAA tourney.

On3’s 2024 College Football Fantasy QB Draft14 Aug 202401:02:07

Last year’s On3 Quarterback Fantasy Draft was so easy. Whoever won the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors would to take USC’s Caleb Williams, and we’d be off to the races. And that’s exactly what happened. Jesse Simonton’s paper beat Andy’s rock, and Jesse grabbed the defending Heisman Trophy winner.

This year? We struggled to make our first choices.

(0:00-1:20) Intro

(1:21-4:08) Jesse Simonton joins, recap last year's choices

(4:09-5:38) Alabama QB Jalen Milroe

(5:39-7:26) Liberty QB Kaidon Salter

(7:27-8:48) Rhoback Ad

(8:49-11:00) Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel

(11:01-14:13) Miami QB Cam Ward

(14:14-16:07) Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart

(16:08-17:29) USF QB Byrum Brown

(17:30-21:03) Kansas State QB Avery Johnson

(21:04-23:34) Georgia QB Carson Beck

(23:35-25:14) Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders

(25:15-29:49) Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava

(29:50-32:34) Arizona QB Noah Fifita

(32:35-36:23) Ohio State QB Will Howard

(36:24-38:27) LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier

(38:28-39:59) Texas State QB Jordan McCloud

(40:00-42:09) Texas QB Quinn Ewers

(42:10-43:59) West Virginia QB Garrett Greene

(44:00-46:11) Missouri QB Brady Cook

(46:12-48:05) Kansas QB Jalon Daniels

(48:06-51:09) Memphis QB Seth Henigan

(51:10-51:59) Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold

(52:00-1:00:35) QB's Not Taken

(1:00:36-1:02:03) Conclusion

But if last year’s QB draft taught us anything, it’s that the picks in the back half of the draft will determine the winner. Andy wiped the floor with Jesse last year mostly because of two players: No. 5 pick Jayden Daniels and No. 9 pick Dillon Gabriel. They were the two most productive players using this scoring system.

Passing touchdown: Six points

Every 25 yards passing: One point

Rushing touchdown: Six points

Every 10 yards rushing: One point

Interception thrown: Minus-2 points

Fumble lost: Minus-2 points

Pick-six thrown: Minus-6 points

The scoring system rewards the dual threat QBs who can score on the ground, and we definitely took that into account making our selections this year. Unlike last year, nothing was obvious. And we won’t find out until the games begin whether we used the correct drafting strategy or we overthought the whole thing

Why aren’t the top quarterbacks throwing at the Combine? | Forcing Notre Dame into a conference?29 Feb 202401:12:09

The great Phillip Dukes, the host of On3’s Five Star Flex, joins from Indianapolis to talk about the NFL Combine. Andy gets why Caleb Williams wouldn’t throw at the combine, but why wouldn’t Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels? Can someone like J.J. McCarthy or Spencer Rattler make a move or at least improve their stock?

(1:11:14-1:12:08) Conclusion

Plus, which players do Andy and Dukes want to see put up freaky numbers?

It’s also a Dear Andy show, and the viewers have sent some great questions…

Is the push to add more automatic bids to the College Football Playoff a way to apply more pressure to Notre Dame to join a conference in football?

Will the SEC continue to get the benefit of the doubt in CFP selections?

Would college athletes becoming employees change Andy’s opinion on court storming?

Should EA Sports add real recruits to the video game?

Our friends at Fanduel set the over/under on Oklahoma’s win total at 7.5 — and some books had the Sooners as low as 6.5 at first. Do the folks in the desert have an inkling about how Oklahoma’s first season in the big, bad SEC will go? Or are they perhaps underestimating how good the Sooners will be in their first season in their new league?

Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia III of On3’s SoonerScoop join Andy to discuss one of the more interesting win totals of the season. They dive into Oklahoma’s schedule and examine which young players could make an early impact.

Next up, On3’s J.D. PicKell visits to discuss his recent interviews with LSU coach Brian Kelly and Florida State coach Mike Norvell.

Kelly lost a Heisman Trophy-winning QB and his offensive coordinator and had to fire his defensive coordinator. Can LSU be competitive again in the SEC after all those changes?

Meanwhile, Norvell had to dramatically reshape his roster after losing the core of a team that went 13-0 and won the ACC before getting shut out of the College Football Playoff. Can Norvell work his magic in the transfer portal again?

Texas A&M Mike Elko is today’s special guest, and he talks taking over in College Station with a roster that he knows quite well because he was the Aggies’ defensive coordinator before he left for two seasons as Duke’s head coach. Elko explains the differences in taking over a program with no prior experience there and one where he’s familiar. He also explains why one of the most accomplished strength coaches in the sport called him looking for a job.

Before Elko visits, we need to talk court/field storming. We’ve talked about it multiple times on the show, and the inevitable happened Saturday when Duke’s Kyle Filipowski was injured when Wake Forest fans stormed the court after beating Duke.

Andy explains why this probably won’t stop court/field storming, but it might convince athletic departments to have a better security plan to ensure players get off the floor/field.

Andy also breaks down the massive loss for the NCAA in federal court on Friday. A judge in Tennessee issued a preliminary injunction that essentially pauses the NCAA’s ability to enforce its name, image and likeness rules. Will this finally convince schools to start moving toward the more sensible method of schools paying players directly?

Tyler Horka of On3’s Blue and Gold joins to explain what the potential changes to the College Football Playoff could mean for Notre Dame. Tyler also helps us dive into Notre Dame’s schedule to determine whether the Irish can go over the 9.5 win total set for them earlier this month.

(50:26-1:05:04) - James Fletcher III Joins the Show to Talk Bracketology

(1:05:05-1:07:22) - Conclusion

The overlords of college football are discussing expanding the College Football Playoff to 14 or 16 teams for 2026 and beyond even though we’ve yet to see the 12-team format actually played. This is happening even though the commissioners who run the CFP still aren’t sure exactly who will be in their conferences in 2026. They also have to decide this in the next month so they can secure sites and lock down a TV deal.

With so much changing, maybe it’s time to just tear it down and rebuild instead of continuing to tweak. Andy calls on the great Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports to brainstorm ideas. In such a time of chaos, there are no bad ideas? Want relegation? Let’s figure it out. Want an objective format for choosing playoff teams? Let’s design one.

Next, On3’s James Fletcher III joins Andy to talk NCAA men’s basketball tournament bracketology and bubble watch. With likely No. 1 seeds Purdue and Connecticut getting knocked off in the past week, does someone else have a chance to move up to the top line? Did Texas A&M kill its chances of making the tourney by losing to Arkansas? Can Florida or Nebraska secure spots in the field with a couple more wins?

(1:13:17-1:16:02) EA Sports College Football Video Game Update

It’s a Dear Andy show, so naturally we’ll start with a question about the possibility of the College Football Playoff expanding to 14 or 16 teams. That’s what the commissioners in charge of the CFP talked about on Wednesday, and they have about a month to decide how they want to tweak the CFP format.

How would a 14-team playoff look? What about a 16-team format? Why are commissioners considering this? How would it change automatic bids?

Next up, West Virginia coach Neal Brown joins the show. He discusses ending the 2023 season with a mayo bath, proving wrong the people who predicted the Mountaineers would finish last in the Big 12 and retaining the best players on the roster in the NIL era.

Brown also explains the process of testing out a coach-to-helmet communication system in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Does he think everyone will be using similar systems this season?

Then it’s back to Dear Andy…

Does the 12-team format — which may only exist for 2024 and 2025 — favor the teams that finish No. 3 in the Big Ten or SEC?

Would Oklahoma’s predicted win total be higher if Dillon Gabriel were still the Sooners’ starting quarterback?

Is UCLA in danger of being more like Indiana or Northwestern in the Big Ten?

How should schools handle quarterback recruiting in the NIL era?

(1:04:07-1:06:27) Conclusion - Dear Andy Tomorrow! Send your questions to andystapleson3@gmail.com

The commissioners who run the College Football Playoff decided Tuesday to shift the format to five automatic bids and seven at-larges to account for the implosion of the Pac-12. But that change might only last two seasons. The commissioners are back at work Wednesday talking about what happens when the original CFP deal expires after the 2025 season. Is this where we see the Big Ten-SEC "advisory group" start to exert its influence?

Next, UCF coach Gus Malzahn joins the show to discuss what surprised him in the Knights' first year in the Big 12. Malzahn also talks retaining talent and how he decided to start calling plays again. Plus, he tells the story of how he met a young Eli Drinkwitz.

Joe Cook of On3's Inside Texas helps us take a deep dive into the Longhorns' first SEC schedule. Texas has a preseason win total of 10.5, and the Longhorns get Georgia at home. Could Texas win the league in its first year? How settled is Quinn Ewers as QB1 with Arch Manning working toward his time?

The 2024 college football quarterback EXTRAVAGANZA | Can Oregon contend in the Big Ten in year one?20 Feb 202401:05:39

(45:19-1:04:21) Justin Hopkins from ScoopDuck joins to talk Oregon, Dan Lanning

(1:04:22-1:05:39) Conclusion

Going into 2023, we knew who the top QBs in college football were. There were a lot of experienced, successful returning starters across the country. That isn’t the case this season. We know Carson Beck at Georgia, Shedeur Sanders at Colorado, Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss and Quinn Ewers at Texas, but the other likely starting QBs on contending teams are either transfers or youngsters who have waited their turn.

Andy and Jesse Simonton break down the state of the QB position heading into the season.

Could a transfer like Will Howard or Dillon Gabriel lead his team to a national title?

Is Michigan’s QB1 currently on its roster?

Is Ewers for certain the guy at Texas, or will Arch Manning push him at some point in the season?

Who will succeed Caleb Williams as USC’s QB1?

Will one of the three super sophomores (Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava, Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold, Kansas State’s Avery Johnson) emerge as a superstar?

Which QB will make the leap in his second season as the starter at his school?

Next, Justin Hopkins of On3’s ScoopDuck breaks down Oregon’s schedule. The Ducks are tied with Georgia, Ohio State and Texas for the highest preseason win total on Fanduel at 10.5. Can Oregon be a contender in year one in the Big Ten? Can the Ducks snap their losing streak against Washington?

Jeff also chats about a Seminoles team that will look very different from the one that won the ACC last year. Florida State's 2024 win total is 9.5 games. Will the Seminoles have the firepower to go over?

In other college football news, the commissioner of the MAC told his schools that despite reports saying a new TV deal for the College Football Playoff is done, commissioners haven't been presented with the particulars yet.

Next, On3's James Fletcher III joins to break down a wild weekend in college basketball. Ohio State, which fired Chris Holtmann last week, shocked Purdue in Jake Diebler's first game as interim coach. Kentucky scored a big road win at Auburn. Also, the NCAA Tournament selection committee released its top 16 seeds if the season ended now.

Jeff Lebby is moving FAST at Mississippi State | Is Georgia DEEPER than last year? | Bubble watch16 Feb 202401:04:20

The EA Sports College Football 25 trailer hit Thursday, and the little snippets we got to see look awesome. This video game is going to be one of the most eagerly awaited college football products ever. It has been 11 years since the last college football game was released, and took multiple state laws being enacted to get it back.

(0:00-5:21) Intro - Welcome Back, EA Sports College Football

(5:22-7:35) Congratulations to Caitlin Clark on Breaking NCAA All-Time Scoring Record

(7:36-12:49) Georgia State's Shawn Elliott heads to South Carolina

(12:50-16:04) The live chat sparks debate over College Football video game cover athlete

(16:05-31:19) Mississippi State's Jeff Lebby joins the Show

(31:20-48:19) Checking in on Georgia Bulldogs Football

(48:20-1:03:17) Bracketology Preview

(1:03:18-1:04:20) Conclusion - Happy Opening Day, College Baseball!

Iowa’s Caitlin Clark broke the NCAA scoring record on Thursday night.

Shawn Elliott stepped down from the head coaching job at Georgia State to coach the tight ends at South Carolina. His reasons were not like Chip Kelly’s reasons for a similar move.

New Mississippi State coach Jeff Lebby joins the show. He discusses flipping and building a roster in the portal era and the difference between a director of football science and a director of speed and performance.

Jake Rowe of On3’s Dawgs HQ joins to dive into Georgia’s 2024 schedule. The Bulldogs are the betting favorite to win the national title, but they play their three toughest games on the road. But they also produced a net positive in the transfer portal, so they should be deeper than last season.

On3’s James Fletcher III joins to talk college basketball. Which ACC teams can still play their way into the tournament? Who is the best in a loaded Big 12? Has Kentucky found the correct lineup yet? Can the Mountain West really put six teams in the NCAA Tournament?

The Associated Press poll is WRONG! | Preseason camp intel from Alabama and Nebraska13 Aug 202401:13:40

The Associated Press poll is out, and of course it will not accurately predict the final rankings for the season — or the final College Football Playoff rankings. But if it did, we’d be getting Penn State at Alabama in round one and Michigan at Texas three months after Texas played at Michigan.

Yeah, we’d take that.

(0:00-0:28) Intro

(0:28-21:11) College Football Playoff based on AP Poll's History

(21:12-43:26) Tim Watts from Bama Online joins to provide the latest on the Crimson Tide

(43:27-46:46) Furthering the CFP Discussion

(46:47-1:11:26) Sean Callahan joins to dive deeper into the Nebraska Cornhuskers

(1:11:27-1:13:40) Conclusion; QB Draft Tomorrow, Dear Andy Thursday!

Next, Tim Watts of On3’s Bama Online joins Andy to discuss what a Kalen DeBoer offense built around Jalen Milroe might look like. Tim and Andy also talk about how sneaky difficult Alabama’s schedule is and why Tim thinks the Crimson Tide will lose two regular-season games.

Later, Sean Callahan of On3’s HuskerOnline joins the show to talk about how Matt Rhule is handling the likelihood of freshman Dylan Raiola starting at QB. Sean provides an update on Nebraska’s banged-up offensive line as camp progresses, and he explains why the Cornhuskers’ defense should remain salty.

Andy visits new Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei in Tallahassee to talk about Uiagalelei‘s wild journey through college football. He started at Clemson, thinking he’d be a three-and-done pro. He wound up transferring to Oregon State just as the Pac-12 blew up. Now he’s at Florida State trying to help the Seminoles keep their momentum going after an ACC title season. He discusses what it will feel like to play the Tigers, what he’s learned through four-plus years of college football and why he didn’t mind that Florida State took its time before offering him a scholarship.

Before that, Andy breaks down the comments from Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte about the SEC possibly moving to a nine-game conference schedule in 2026.

Later, you take over the show with your Dear Andy questions…

Was this the craziest coaching carousel ever?

Why the College Football Playoff re-sign with only ESPN?

Could UCLA have handled the Chip Kelly situation differently?

Why not start the season with bowl games?

What’s the best Redneck Riviera town?

Can Nebraska win eight games? (It's not THAT crazy) | Can Ole Miss make the College Football Playoff14 Feb 202401:04:18

We continue our deep-dive series into college football teams for 2024 with Nebraska and Ole Miss. Fanduel dropped a ton of season win totals on us recently, and that gives us a great excuse to examine the schedules of different programs as they enter a season of drastic change in the sport.

(0:00-2:02) Intro - Valentine's Day 101

(2:03-6:14) 2024 Projected Wins Continued

(6:15-11:29) ESPN, CFP Deal

(11:30-16:54) Tennessee vs NCAA Update

(16:55-37:18) Sean Callahan Talks Nebraska, 7.5 Projected Wins

(37:19-1:02:30) Zach Berry Joins to Discuss Ole Miss at 9.5 Wins

(1:02:31-1:04:18) Conclusion - Dear Andy Tomorrow!

Submit your Dear Andy questions to AndyStaplesOn3@gmail.com

Before we get to the Cornhuskers and Rebels, Andy breaks down the news that ESPN will continue to televise the College Football Playoff through the 2031 season.

Andy also recaps Tuesday’s hearing in a Tennessee federal courthouse between the Tennessee attorney general and the NCAA in a case involving NIL rules.

Then, Sean Callahan of On3’s Husker Online joins to discuss what on the surface appears to be an aggressive win total (7.5) for a Nebraska program that hasn’t made a bowl game since 2016. But a deeper look at the schedule shows there is definitely a chance. The question is how well quarterback Dylan Raiola will play as a true freshman, because it certainly seems as if the star recruit is in line to be the Cornhuskers’ QB1.

Next, Zach Berry of On3’s OM Spirit visits to discuss the Rebels’ win total (9.5), which doesn’t seem outrageous considering they won 10 regular-season games last season and have — at least on paper — a more talented roster this season. Can Ole Miss go over? And is that essentially the same question as “Can Ole Miss make the CFP?”

(0:00-3:29) Intro - Bill Self Ejected in loss at Texas Tech

(3:30-5:57) - DeShaun Foster Named Head Coach at UCLA

(5:58-30:48) - Pete Nakos Joins to talk Portal, Coaching Changes

(30:49-36:41) - Early Win Totals for 2024 Season

(36:42-1:00:22) - Nick De La Torre Joins to talk all things Florida Gators and a brutal 2024 Schedule

(1:00:23-1:03:45) Conclusion - Tennessee vs NCAA Hearing Update

On3’s Pete Nakos joins the show to discuss the end (knock on wood) of the 2024 coaching carousel cycle. Who made the best hire? Did anyone reach?

Also, Pete helps preview the hearing as the attorneys general from Tennessee and Virginia take on the NCAA’s NIL rules in a federal courthouse in Knoxville on Tuesday. The judge in the case seems to have indicated how he’s going to rule, but could something surprising happen?

Plus, Pete talks transfer portal. Only Michigan, Boston College and UCLA still have portal windows open. Does he expect much movement? Or will players wait until spring?

As we mentioned, Fanduel recently dropped a huge batch of college football win totals. What are some of the numbers that we’ll need to take a deeper dive into in the coming weeks? Two that jump out: Miami at 9.5 and Oklahoma at 7.5.

Next, Nick De La Torre of On3's Gators Online joins the show to talk about how and why Florida lost its recently hired strength coach to Boston College. What do Billy Napier and the Gators do now? Also, Florida’s season win total number has been set at 5.5. Andy and Nick break down the games to determine whether Florida can reach the over with one of the most difficult schedules in the country.
