Ofunshi Oba Koso is a traditional healer and spiritual diviner known as a Babalawo from the Yoruba religious tradition. Trained from an early age by both Lucumi and Traditional Yoruba elders, Ofunshi brings a unique perspective of African spirituality through his vast knowledge of Afro-Cuban syncretic religious practices such as Santeria (Lucumi) and Palo Monte, as well as Ifá as it is practiced in West Africa today. Baba Ofunshi was chosen by a divine oracle to carry his family's ancestral staff, which has been passed down from generation to generation to uphold the traditions of his ancestors. His wisdom and traditional knowledge are widely respected, and his counsel has been sought not only in the religious realm but also in social and political arenas. In addition to his work as a spiritual guide to many, he is also actively involved in global movements to improve the lives and conditions of Africans and African descendants. Ofunshi's most recent activities include serving as a member of the International Coordinating Committee and panellist for the First World Summit of Afro-descendants held in Honduras (August 2011), presenting a paper on spirituality and tradition at the International Meeting of Writers and Poets of African, Indigenous, and Sino Descent in Costa Rica (October 2011), and serving as a delegate to the United Nations for the General Assembly high-level meeting on the 10th Anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (September 2011). Baba Ofunshi also serves as a member of the steering committee for the new Department of Afro-descendant, Indigenous and Sino-descendent Studies at the National University of Costa Rica. Baba Ofunshi holds a degree in Cultural Analysis and Promotion from the University of Havana.

Adedoyin was born in Mexico DF to a family of Apache Shamans originally from San Antonio, Texas area and was exposed to native beliefs from an early age. Her grandfather on her mom’s side was from Japan and her mom was Apache. She always had “the gift” of sight. At an early age, she was chosen and went through the traditional rights of las Guares Brujas Negras (Black Witches/Skinwalker). Then she was initiated as a Shamaness within Aztecan indigenous group. At age 16 due to her spiritual gifts and mediumship, she was trained by a powerful medium denoted as Vaso.

Later she was exposed to and initiated in Palo Mayombe in California ultimately becoming a Yaya Nkissi Malongo. She then entered an Afro-Cuban Òrìsà and Ifá Ile where she was crowned to Ọṣun and became an Olorìsà priestess. Her spiritual development and journey did not stop there, eventually seeking out an Ifá lineage from Oyo, Nigeria and being initiated to Iyanifá. She has initiated many godchildren to Palo, and Òrìsà over the years and has earned the respect of her community in California. She is viewed as a spiritual mentor and has been active in studying and comparing various belief systems. She is also the owner and operator of a Botanica in Ontario California.

ALEXANDER CABOT was born in Havana, Cuba on an “old moon” in September’s autumnal equinox, he was the first child born to his mother. She had a miscarriage of her first pregnancy, arising from a hex put on her, one filled with envy and deceit. Alexander grew up knowing that he was born to counteract that spell and save his mother’s happiness and life. Living in New York, at a very tender age, he was taught the magickal traditions of a line of men in his family. Within that lineage, his great grandfather, grandfather, and father possessing initiated Masonic and the “Occult Sciences” presented a good influence for him to model himself to. Being not of English descent, he was genuinely curious and heart-fully drawn to British
Traditional Witchcraft at an early age of eleven, through the writings of Gardner, Sybil Leek & Doreen Valiente. When Alexander became thirteen years of age, he was initiated in Palo Mayombe of the Congo/Afro Cuban. Then he began his spiritual studies of “El Evangelio De Alan Kardec” at El Templo; La Luz, Cristobal De Jesus and was crowned on his 19 birthday. African spirit guides carried him to be initiated into the African diaspora religions such as Santeria/Lucumi Tradition. He was the right-hand man for an Oriate, Chief High Priest. Alexander was initiated and taught Welsh & Gardnerian/NY Wicca by Lady Rhea throughout the ’90s but for several years after he devoted all his time to his profession in surgery.

Having mastered that purpose for the “All”, he has personally decided to return to the craft and re-energize his spiritual journey again, starting on the Great Sabbat, Samhain, 2009. Being mentored, initiated and ordained by the “Official Witch of Salem”; Rev. Lady Rhea has been a High Priestess in the Gardnerian Tradition of the Kentucky line since 1973. She began her career at the Warlock Shop in Brooklyn owned by Herman Slater & Eddie Buczynski and later to be relocated as the Magickal Childe in Manhattan. She is known as the "Witch Queen of New York" and has been an occult shop owner since 1982, when she opened Enchantments Inc. with Lady Miw (aka Carol Bulzone). In 1992, Lady Rhea opened Magickal Realms (Enchanted Candle Shoppe Inc.) in Greenwich Village, later relocating to the Bronx, where she co-operates the shop with her wife Lady Zoradia.
Lady Rhea supported the Minoan Brotherhood with Lord Gwyddion (aka, Edmund Buczynski) and later co-founded the Minoan Sisterhood with Lady Miw. Lady Rhea states that she is of the Gardnerian and Welsh Tradition but considers herself and all of her children from her High Priest and teacher Edmund Buczynski (Lord Gwyddion). Her children that is how she calls them, Witches who have studied under her and been initiated into the craft include Lexa Rosean author of “The Supermarket Sorceress” & Phyllis Curott author of the “Book of Shadows”.
In 1986, Lady Rhea published her book The Enchanted Candle, based on the hand-carved, embellished candles she has created for years. She published a second book, The Enchanted Formulary: Blending Magickal Oils for Love, Prosperity, and Healing, in September 2006 & the revised new edition in 2019.

Angela Puca joined Leeds Trinity University in 2016 and is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies.

Angela’s degrees are in Philosophy, with a particular focus on Eastern Philosophies. During her Academic formation, she studied Latin, Ancient Greek, Sanskrit and Tibetan (Classical and Modern) to translate primary sources of interest from different philosophical and religious traditions.
During her Master's Degree, she expanded her knowledge in the field of Religious Studies, especially Buddhism and the Indian and Tibetan religions, at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” in Italy as well as at the University of Hamburg in Germany.
Afterwards, her research interest moved towards Paganism and Shamanism, their contemporary manifestations across the Italian territory.

She is currently about to complete her Ph.D. on “Indigenous and Trans-cultural Shamanism in Italy", which will be awarded by the University of Leeds.'

Our guest this week hails from Florida, he is the “Miko” Chief of one of the Muskogee First Nations clan in Wakulla County, Florida and an ordained Catholic Priest of the Magdalene Church.

Utilizing his intuitive gifts and ability to communicate with Spirits since the age of 11, he sees the world and the use of different spiritual modalities through the lens of Chaos Magic. This form of magic ascribes to the fluid, non-dogmatic, principle of tapping into various spiritual and magical modalities as a situation requires, without being beholden to any one spiritual belief-system or construct.

Leveraging years of study and practice in Seiðr, Voodoo, Hoodoo together with his Muskogee First nations healing magic, he serves his community in administering guidance, counselling and comfort through a "whatever it takes attitude" to get it done. His practice includes performing healing rituals, conjure, ceremonies and even exorcisms. He is a dynamic force to be reckoned with on all levels. Mistress Bee was born and raised in Washington State with two loving parents and two wonderful, and ridiculous, brothers. She received a Bachelors of Science in Forensic Anthropology in 2017 from Central Washington University and relocated to Florida in 2018. Bee comes from a Christian background and did not start delving into her craft until her early 20's. She has always had incredible intuition and empathic abilities and channels that with tarot and candle magick. While she is a relatively new practitioner at 26 years old, she is full of curiosity and a fire to learn more.

Dr. Patricia “Robin” Woodruff is a polymath, author, artist and Priestess of Stone Circle Wicca (USA).  She is known in Pagan circles as Robin and in Slavic lands as Paraska.  Her Lemko heritage from the remote Carpathian mountains started her on a path of intense study of Slavic magic, resulting in her becoming a spirit-initiated Lemko Bosorka (a sort of shamanic witch.)  Woodruff has been immersed for four years writing the Roots of Slavic Magic series, while also obtaining her Ph.D. Having read over 4,000 sources on the subject, Woodruff can provide new insights into this ancient religion based on recent archeological discoveries, newly-revealed rituals, word origins and analysis of petroglyphs.  Woodruff has found her work aligning with the work of Marija Gimbutas in her cross-cultural studies of Old Europe.

Shawn was born in San Diego, California. As a child, he and his family moved to North East Ohio. Where he currently lives with his family of 3 beautiful children and his wife of over a decade. Shawn was brought up Jewish with his family and converted to Catholicism in 2009. Most of his time is spent with his family; hiking, camping, playing sports, games and anything else to enjoy being with his wife and children.

     Shawn is an empath and a paranormal investigator. His profound experiences growing up as a child and into his young adult ages are what lead him to research and investigate the paranormal. He lived his life being terrified of his home for many years. Shawn feels that if he understood the experiences differently, things could have been a lot better for himself and his family during his adolescent years.   

   Many of Shawn's feelings as an empath have been confirmed on numerous occasions. Even to this day, he is amazed when he gets confirmation on what energies he picks upon. Shawn investigates the paranormal in hopes to help other people understand that the paranormal is actually normal.

  Shawn was an investigator and the team manager of EctoVision Paranormal. Where he led team investigations for private residences and businesses. He also took on the role of debunking the evidence that was found during the evidence review.

   Shawn has investigated numerous private homes, businesses and famous locations. A few of the famous locations that Shawn has investigated include  Ohio State Reformatory, The Monroe House, and the Hinsdale House. Shawn also loves investigating parts of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, other state parks and cemeteries with a strong history and where there have been claims of paranormal activity.

    Shawn's true passion in the paranormal is conducting private home investigations.  Where he feels like he can help people the most. Shawn believes that most private cases are clients who are afraid because they don't understand what is going on and unintentionally provoke spirits out of fear. He believes in most cases, that by bridging the communication gap between the living and the spirits, he and his team are able to help their clients coexist with the spirits in their homes, together.

    Shawn’s story on what got him involved in the paranormal can be read in Encounters With The Paranormal published by Haunted Road Media and is available for purchase on Amazon. Shawn also appeared on the Travel Channel in the US and on the Escape Channel in Canada on season 4 of Paranormal Survivor and was featured on several episodes of Haunted Case Files season 2. Jenny Uzzell is a Druid, being a member of OBOD at Ovate Grade, BDO at Bardic Grade, and TDN. She has been involved with Druidry for about 12 years, mostly in a solitary capacity (as the North East is a long way from all things Druid!) She is currently the Education and Youth Manager for the Pagan Federation. She is an educational consultant in the field of Religious Studies, having carried out a number of roles for the Religious Education Council of England and Wales over the last few years.   She is a senior examiner in Religious Studies at both GCSE and A level with a Major awarding body and was Head of Religious Education at a number of schools for many years.

Jenny is currently a Ph.D. student at Durham University working under the auspices of the Centre for Death and Life Studies and based in the Department of Theology and Religion. She is conducting research into death rites among contemporary Druids in the UK.  In addition to her Ph.D. research, which she is conducting on a part-time basis, she is also co-owner and director of a funeral home that forms part of a growing movement in the UK towards greater openness, honesty and authenticity in the way funerals are arranged and conducted In this capacity she has helped to re-imagine and design funeral rituals that are relevant to those involved and has provided help and advice with ‘home funerals’. Sometimes she sleeps!

Born and raised near Cleveland, Ohio on land that was Erie and Iroquois nations. Her ancestry is English, Irish, East Prussian and German, and fairly recent ancestors who were of Choanoke nation and Bantu. The East Prussians hail from a town called Jeziorany in Polish north of Olsztyn. Sue works as a mental health counsellor (licensed professional clinical counsellor) in the Central neighbourhood in Cleveland. Her practice is informed by her spirituality, by her initiations in Orisha and Palo. She comes from the viewpoint that there is constant interaction between what we think of as the physical and the spiritual, and what we think of as the living and the dead. It’s her belief that everyone has chosen their own destiny, even if they are not aware of that destiny. She doesn't believe people choose bad destiny. She thinks people’s Orí or head may or may not be in the best condition for a variety of reasons. Some can be fixed or remediated, and some conditions you have to work around, along with adversity in social conditions. That’s counselling.

She was initiated to Ọ̀ṣun since 1996 in Canton, Ohio, and Yaya Nkisi in Palo for about 2 years. Her godparents in Ocha are Baba Medahochi (Iba’e t’orun) and Iya Aboyade, who is now Iyanifa and is called Ifálola. Her Ojugbona is Barbara Barrett, Osunnikantomi Egbenihun. Her name in Ocha is Ọ̀ṣunmilaya which means Ò̩ṣún wife of Orunmila. She has received Iṣe’Fá (Hand of Orula) from Baba Wande Abimbola, Awise Ni Agbáyé.
Her first ceremonies were done in Cleveland in the early 1990s when she received collares, Warriors and Olokun.
Her house of Ocha at this time is headed by Manny Urquiola, Oloyuoba, of Spring Hill, Florida. She also has a working relationship with her husband’s Padrino in Palma Soriano, Cuba. She has travelled to Cuba quite a few times and as a result, her Spanish speaking abilities are pretty good.

The first lessons in the old ways took place in the garden, where plants and their magickal properties were passed down from one generation to the next. The language of gemstones is also part of an enduring tradition as Andrea was often swept away with the family in search of unusual gemstones and antiquities. Growing up with gem importers for parents and a gemologist grandfather, the songs and stories of each stone have been present since childhood.

It is the deeply held belief that woven through story, ancestral food and connection to the land, the mystical life is one that is best when shared with others. This has led to the creation of a one-year course Andrea is teaching with the Inner Alchemy Collective delving into the ways that we can work with the plant world as we would with our ancestors.

His given name is TeDi (after my teacher, the original 'Baba Teddy') Olujimi. He is a storyteller and ritualist who talks about his life amongst many teachers and traditions.

'Lady Kate' is an Apetibi of Ifá who specializes in divination as well as being an author and illustrator. she is also a visual artist whose art is found in such diverse places as the BME Salem Church in St. Catharines, Ontario where her life-sized Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth resides and in Buffalo NY at Botanico El Indio where she painted a large Yemaya holding Tituba who she rescued from the ocean.

Together they live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and have seven children, two grandchildren, a bearded dragon and feed a small herd of feral kittens.

Baba Ifabiyi, Nelson Alvarez was born in Habana Cuba and was initiated to Obatala and to Ifa by the customs of the Regla de Ocha-Ifa in Cuba 40 years ago. Baba Nelson later travelled to Mexico DF, Mexico where he became the Vice-President of the Sociedad Yoruba de Mexico under Leonel Gamez, Oshe Niwo. He later founded the Ifa World Conference, a nonprofit organization focused on research on the Ifa and Orisa practice from a Lineage in Lagos studying both the language, practice and customs and reconciling them with the Afro-Cuban practice. Ifaworld Conference, has worked with the Consejo Cultural Yoruba de Canada and also the VODOUN-FA BOKONON ABOMALE-KPENGLA Community of Uruguay to also study and compare practices between Fa-Gbassa Vodoun Fa and Regla Ocha-Ifa of Cuba.

Ancestral Eyes welcomes Kabiyesi Ifagbemi Faseye Efunsola on this Episode 6 of our show.

Kabiyesi Ifagbemi Faseye Efunsola talks about the Ifá-Òrìsà Indigenous worship and his 28 trips to West Africa including Nigeria, Republic of Benin and Togo for the purposes of initiations and religious study.

Baba Faseye began his formal, comparative religious study in 1998. For over 20 years now he has diligently served my community as a healer, diviner, educator, and steward of indigenous spiritual tradition.

Before becoming a respected leader in the tradition, he underwent many years of study and practice as an Ifa priest (Babalawo), communicating with the Spirit of Destiny known as Orunmila in order to divine a person’s destiny and, when needed, make edits or changes to this destiny through ritual (or, ebo).

As a leader within this culture and tradition, he also specialized in various other forms of divination such as mirror and water gazing, cowry divination and other mystical spiritual disciplines in order to assist devoted seekers to find working solutions to many of life’s various challenges.

Baba Nelson later travelled to Mexico DF, Mexico where he became the Vice-President of the Sociedad Yoruba de Mexico under Leonel Gamez, Oshe Niwo. He later founded the Ifa World Conference, a nonprofit organization focused on research on the Ifa and Orisa practice from a Lineage in Lagos studying both the language, practice and customs and reconciling them with the Afro-Cuban practice. Ifaworld Conference has worked with the Consejo Cultural Yoruba de Canada and also the VODOUN-FA BOKONON ABOMALE-KPENGLA Community of Uruguay to also study and compare practices between Fa-Gbassa Vodoun Fa and Regla Ocha-Ifa of Cuba.

Our discussion tonight will focus on the Spiritual Guide as seen from Fá Agbassá Vodoun-Fá and with commentary and comparison to Yorùbá Ifá-Òrìsà and Afro-Cuban Regla de Ocha-Ifa . We will look at the central role that the Ancestor or "Djoto/Guia Spiritual" plays in a person's spiritual journey or mission and how that takes shape in terms of the Yoruba concept of “Ori” and the Vodoun-Fá concept of the “Se”. We will also talk about the process of Ifá/Fá divination and the concept of the Ancestral Guide Divination. We will pull from both the historical, abstract and modern-day actual practice of these West African traditions as well as concepts that stem from Egypt and Mesopotamia.

Kabiyesi Ifagbemi Faseye Efunsola talks about the Ifá-Òrìsà Indigenous worship and his 28 trips to West Africa including Nigeria, Republic of Benin and Togo for the purposes of initiations and religious study. On this special edition return show, he also announces his Oba Òrìsà Obatala of America title after all religious rights were done in Ile Ife by the spiritual Head of Obatala in Ife Obalesun.

Baba Faseye began his formal, comparative religious study in 1998. For over 20 years now he has diligently served my community as a healer, diviner, educator, and steward of indigenous spiritual tradition.

Before becoming a respected leader in the tradition, he underwent many years of study and practice as an Ifa priest (Babalawo), communicating with the Spirit of Destiny known as Orunmila in order to divine a person’s destiny and, when needed, make edits or changes to this destiny through ritual (or, ebo).

As a leader within this culture and tradition, he also specialized in various other forms of divination such as mirror and water gazing, cowry divination and other mystical spiritual disciplines in order to assist devoted seekers to find working solutions to many of life’s various challenges.

Ancestral Eyes E32 welcomes Brian Walsh, Storyteller, Psychotherapist, and Spiritual Care Provider with your hosts Teresa Sliwinski and Jean-Jerome C. Baudry!

Brian Walsh is a Registered Psychotherapist and Professional Storyteller.
He also works as a Spiritual Care provider at a major mental health hospital and volunteers as a pagan chaplain at the University of Toronto.

As a CRPO Registered Psychotherapist, Brian works with individuals and groups providing spiritually informed psychotherapy, in both private practice and a hospital setting.

As a Professional Storyteller, Brian has told Celtic stories at numerous venues, including the Toronto Storytelling Festival; while guest lecturing at the University of Toronto; on stage at Dundas Square; and deep in the woods, around a campfire with friends.

Brian has a background in World Religions, Celtic Studies, and Spiritual Care, with a B.A. from the University of Toronto, an M.Phil. from the University of Wales, and other graduate-level training from the University of Toronto. Brian is especially interested in the intersection of Spirituality, Mental Health, and Narrative.

No matter which of his many hats Brian is wearing, Story is at the heart of his practice.
