Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 27: MF Doom(Part 2-The MIXTAPE)26 Nov 202101:09:37

Regarded as “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper”, a British citizen named Daniel Dumile once looked at the rap game and came to the conclusion that rap was becoming “what it looked like” versus “what it sounded like”. What did he do with this observation? He donned a metal mask and became the scene’s most loved supervillain and well-regarded wordsmith known as MF DOOM. That’s right, kids, Anatomy of Mixtape has finally taken the step that 40 Hands Dan has wanted since the inception of the show–an exploration of the life and music of MF DOOM that blew his mind a few years ago and continues to do so. In our first of two parts for this series, Rey and Daniel address what little we know of Dumile’s life which is shrouded in mystery purposefully. To paraphrase DOOM during an interview when asked to list five things that fans don’t know about him, he said “You don’t know anything about me”. Find out why this is the case even a year after his death by tuning in!

Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 25: Passion of the Durst (Three Dollar Bill Ya’ll$)10 Sep 202101:42:48

AoMx Episode 25: Passion of the Durst (Three Dollar Bill Y’all$)*Echoey as hell* Reintroducing the illest, dopest, and freshest music podcast we can come up with. Welcome back to Anatomy of Mixtape! *Back to normal* In the past, we were primarily a show with a multitude of hosts, but the latest iteration features El Rey and 40 Hands Dan as we attempt to dive a bit more deeply into the realm of music that we love. However, this first foray into our two-man approach involves an album that we aren’t particularly crazy about and are pleased to never have to listen to again any time soon. What album is that, you ask? Three Dollar Bill Y’all$ from Limp Bizkit, notoriously the world’s most hated band that has enveloped themselves in controversy over funky bass lines. Join us as we return to our angsty teenage years with this raw-sounding, hard-hitting entry of the now mostly defunct nu-metal genre! Before we let you get to this episode, please rate and review us wherever you get your podcasts from and, if you want a more consistent release schedule of our audial shenanigans, donate to our Patreon or purchase some of our sweet merch on Teespring. Anatomy of Mixtape Ep 24: “Weird” Al Mix15 May 202002:06:22

As BURFDAY EDICT proclaims, this month, in honor of the hatching, a personal selection has been laid down for the crack-a-lacking. For the hell to the fucketh yes, we bring you the funniest musician in existence, “WEIRD” Al Yankovic, the Ninth Wonder of the World himself. If you’ve never had the sheer gut-busting goodness of a Weird Al track, then listen in and EDUMACATE thyself with wonderment! Delicious sarcasm aside, Yank The Great and Mighty really is just the most rad-bad-ass-cool slice of smart-assery and talent pizza you’ll ever feast your ears on. Join Roland, Rey and Daniel as we serve up our Top 5 Weird Al Tracks.

Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 23: Top 5 Track Ones25 Apr 202001:51:45

So we’re trying out some new AoMx challenge playlists and our first little foray is picking our favorite track one tunes. Next time…maybe track two?! Have a few /s sandwiches with that last sentence (mmm). Listen in as D-town Joe comes in with his clutch list as usual-done and done with 30 minutes left before we started (plenty of time). Some of us pros can change it up mid-recording (it’s called talent). Daniel’s last track had a particularly hilarious sense of casual dark humor (pigeons CAN be funny). The Humble Purist blesses us with one of his favorite Pixies tracks (no Beatles?!?). Roland picks a track a toddler could have written (who knew they could be so cool?). Laugh as we take a massive raging hate-dump on Craig-bot spasming through our picks. Laugh more as we get a slightly better experience with Rhythm-bot’s wonky-ass controls only working when it damn well feels like it. Somehow, it was fun. Probably the alcohol. Join Rey, Roland, Daniel, and Joe for a quick run through some of our favorites.

Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 22: Smashing Pumpkins (Era One)31 Mar 202001:57:58

The Smashing Pumpkins: Era OneAs we come into the Epoch of Rey Prime (™), El Bday Boy has chosen to record this Mixtape on the Smashing Pumpkins. This dive covers the first few albums (it’s a start) as the entirety of the Snatching Apples discography would take more than we can cover in just one ep (by a true fan, anyway-whatever that is). As a fun coincidence, Daniel shaved his head in honor of this episode and in tribute to renowned contrarian and frontman of the band, BillyBob Corgan. The Splooshing Papayas have an unmistakable sound to their music, and here we try our best to keep up with the Quintessential Humble Purist (™), Kylo El-Rey, as he disgorges his modest fandom. Cover your eyes, children. Join Rey, Roland, Bryce, Daniel, and back from reality- D-Town Joe as we cover these Alt-rock Icons, The Spanking Pineapples.    Please rate and review us on iTunes and Google Podcasts. Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 19: Majestic 12 Mini Mix26 Dec 201900:55:18

In honor of the Rendlesham Forest incident, we are releasing our exclusive patreon episode of AOMX. It was recorded back in April prior to attending the Edinburg UFO Conference. We figured since we are so hyped on ufos and alien shit we’d throw this one out there to check out! Join Rey, Roland, Daniel, Joe, and Bryce (in his first appearance) to discuss songs about aliens and ufos! Trust that there are many more than what we have chosen. We will revisit this topic somewhere at the end of March possibly. If you aren’t part of our lovely patrons then you should consider becoming one. We have plenty of more exclusive content too hot for the masses.

Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire, Gimme Yeeeaahhh! In honor of Jimbo’s recent re-rehab check-in, we decided to try for an homage to all that is the Metal Militia. We’re trying a different formula this time around with our mixtape. Everyone picks their favorite tracks and we vote for One List to Rule Them All. We all get a crack at our best metal-lingo accents (ohhhh yeeeeah!) Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 17: The Bday Hip Hopalocalypse18 Oct 201902:50:25

In another bday Danielpalooza, we’re here running with our most favorite hipperhops tracks (we edgy!). Headlined by D-hizzletron himself, we go through some classics, some counter-culture, and some mainstream word wizards in our ham-fisted attempts to rationalize our silliness. No SirMixAlot to be had here–too easy–though anything from Fear of a Black Hat would’ve been acceptable. Join Daniel, Rey, Roland, Ron (in his first AOMx appearance), Jamie, and Bryan for this brief foray into the ghetto fabulous.

Anatomy of Mixtape Episode 15: Metropolis Goth Night Mix23 Aug 201902:54:22

Time to slather on the mascara (demon raccoon styles) and dust off the platform boots-we’re getting Gothy tonight! Remember the Rules of the Goths: Embrace the Darkness, KILL YOUR FEAR, Live for Death! We’ve probably done those a few times, Goth or not. Join Rey, Joe, Roland, Bryan, our guest Mickey, and drunken MC Jamie as we go through our picks for the night. If only you could have seen it. They sat in the dark. Not dumb at all. SO GOTH. One candle though. Can’t be frontin’. This was an extra-long recording so get ready for a long sit here. The heckling is strong with this one. But so is the history. Half the group gets trashed. Anatomy of Mixtape Episode 14: Liberty, Justice & Folk20 Jul 201901:35:10

Here we crack out some of that old, old, old school mixery. AKA “What Folk Means to Me Mix”, join Daniel, Joe, Rey, and Roland as they try and navigate the many types of folk music. Jk. That didn’t really happen. This was a fun experiment though. Some of us felt like trying to dig a bit outside the hegemonic (<—is too a word!) constraints of that golden, rag timey wimey genre and unearth some funky cheese poppers. Others just went with the classics. Le sigh. Mongolian Folk Metal. Need we say more? Huehuehue. Chigeddy check it out.

Anatomy of Mixtape Episode 13: DUETS Mix16 Jun 201902:03:04

Disclaimer: We are so professional that we constantly make mistakes! We did it again! Unfortunately, we had one of our computers malfunction during recording so we depending on a recording source that had no been thoroughly tested. This is such a MoKuest thing to do. Heh heh! Yes there are audio issues that couldn’t get resolved and this is the result. We can’t just not put something out. We had a good time rummaging through our top 5 duets mix for Joe’s (Jose’s) choice. You get the usual immature language and possible music nerdom somewhere buried deep. Someone may have been jacking it to a mans voice for years…I’ll let you find out! Anatomy of Mixtape Episode 12: What JAZZ is to Me17 May 201902:00:36

Here we go for some soul. For the month of May, we celebrate zeh b-day times for Roland. As such, he felt like throwing a curve–let’s do some JAZZY JAZZ …because I know a lot about that (hell to the no). A slight last-minute tweak threw in some blues too. I mean, it was this or pirate/circus metal….hehehe! So time for the finest of fart-knockage. Breathe deep. This episode was hella fun-mostly for me. Thankfully, we have Daniel to bring us some knowledge and true effort (jazz hop?!?), while the Nancy Nay-Say Cousins took a big Cleveland steamer (nuts and corn) on what “jazz means to me.” The humble purists strike again! I mean, it’s good some people know what they’re [trash]talking about. We were out in Dallas for the Frightmare Weekend convention, and Sweet Baby Rey thought it was a good opportunity to try and record at Joe’s place. Just to give him a little taste of the bullshit that happens before, during, and after a setup (random goblins in the machine). Still, the booze was good, the company was amusing, and I was happy with my picks. Have at!

Anatomy of Mixtape Episode 11: Roadtrip Mix12 Apr 201901:32:44

Road Trip Mix! None of that 99 bottles trash for the love of boredom (unless you’re 10……or a sadist). Just about everyone had a track with “highway” in the name-one of us even picked chiefly from songs using that singular condition (keeps it interesting). Join El Rey, 40 Hands Dan, Axel Roland (inflicted but not self-imposed), and D-town Joe (he hates it), for a quick and brutal shit-talking marathon of songs we think peeps should blast on the road. I mean, we like ‘em. Try it out. Or not. Bust out a sleeve of Ritz, cuz this one brings the cheese!

Anatomy of Mixtape Episode 7: Best Songs of 2018 Mix14 Dec 201802:28:47

On this last Anatomy of Mixtape episode of 2018, the boys sift through the lists that defined the year, or at least the past couple of hours. Rey, Roland, Daniel, and Jamie (playing Joe’s proxy) do their “best” to articulate what these songs mean to them.  Roland is at the top of his quotable lines. Daniel moonlights as Jar Jar Binks. Jamie gets trashed. Rey tries avoid staring into the pink vortex that is Jamie’s nipples.

We wanna thank everyone for taking the time to listen, download or just visit our pages! We appreciate you, even if Roland says otherwise. We will be back next month/next year with new episodes and very “special” episodes.

Anatomy of Mixtape Episode 6: Ultimate Queen Mix16 Nov 201802:27:34
Finally, the original cast is back together! Rey, Roland, Jamie, Daniel, and Joe have reunited to create a mix from a band that we “unconditionally” love, Queen! This episode is a long time coming. Initially was supposed to be the very first episode of Anatomy of Mixtape but since the movie Bohemian Rhapsody was set for November, Jamie and Rey decided to hold off in hopes to take it all in. In true AOMx fashion, this episode is chaotic, noisy, offensive and unpredictable. Around 1:13:45 someone falls asleep mid-episode, listen to find out who. Hope you enjoy the episode.
