Dave Sim returns with his (he says) final 1982 Tourbook notes.
(We'll see...)
Please Hold For Dave Sim 9/2026
13 Sep 2026
02:24:02
To quote one of the greatest actors/musicians/sages/philosophers of our time: "Whoa."
Dave Sim finally gets around to answering the Faux he was sent that was to be the April 2026 Please Hold For Dave Sim AND the Faux that would have been the June 2026 Please Hold.
In this one:
I don't record these live anymore
So, consequently, I don't take notes on what Dave's talking about
I guess you'll just have to listen and see what's happening
It's a bummer for you, but I don't think I give a $#!*
You LITERALLY get what you pay for, and I ain't making a dime off of this
There IS a missing piece of Audio, so see if you can figure out where it goes
(The highly superiorpeople who watch these as videos on the YouTubes get shown where the gap is. That's because they are highly superior...)
Sp*t*fy becomes more and more of a $#!*hole everytime I have to do one of these, and frankly: you SHOULD be paying me to deal with them.
See you, when next I feel like whoring myself for my vile corporate masters by tarting myself up and uploading more audio here (probably in a week... *sigh*...)
Please Hold For '82 Tour Notes 7/9/2026
13 Jul 2026
02:09:38
Dave Sim returns with more '82 Tour Notes, specifically addressing the 28 page Faux Matt sent up.
*Full disclosure, I ain't listened to this whole thing yet, so I've no idea what exactly Dave says...*
Also debuting this month: the 80's style synth pop theme song Matt had the robots do for him.
Dave's 1982 Tour Project notes 5/1-5/14 2026
18 May 2026
01:37:17
Dave's notes on the 1982 Tour Book.
NOT Please Hold For Dave Sim 5/2026
11 May 2026
01:18:36
Dave Sim returns and leaves the Please Hold behind. By POPULAR demand (hey, people paid to hear this...) Dave discusses his thoughts on the 1982 Tour Book.
NEXT Month, if you people pay for Please Hold, we'll hold. Otherwise it's '82 for you!
Please Hold For Dave Sim 4/2026
04 Apr 2026
02:00:02
For the April 2026 installment, Please Hold finally lives up to it's name!
Dave has decided that with the Cerebus #1 (and Spawn #10) in Spanish Kickstarter launched, and the CAN13/CiH? Kickstarter "on deck", he's either going to do Please Hold in May, or he'll work on going through the 1982 Tour Book for its Kickstarter.
(No clue what Dave's gonna do if there is a tie...)
(I'ma have to work on whatever it is anyways...)

And now to get ready for next month's Please Hold For Dave Sim.
(If you've enjoyed this, or other episodes of Please Hold, please consider making a donation to the "Dave Sim Fund" to help support Dave since Diamond Comic Distributors have gone out of business, cutting of a key source of Aardvark Vanaheim's revenue.)
((Matt doesn't get paid either since Sp*t*fy took over. But he's living comfortably, so you don't gotta sweat about him.))

And Manly Matt Dow reminds Everybody about his "relationship" with Denis Kitchen
@creative_fey has comments on last month's Please Hold, and new questions. Dave Sim has answers.
All this and more or something. Honestly, just listen to the thing. You ain't busy...
The Please Hold For Dave Sim 2025 Christmas Spectacular
05 Dec 2025
01:33:43
Cerebus creator Dave Sim returns for the last Please Hold For Dave Sim of 2025, and it's the Christmas episode!
In this Please Hold:
I have no idea.
Back when we recorded these things live over the phone, I'd take notes.
But now that Dave doesn't have a phone, I send the questions and he records the answers.
Usually I do the Audio after I edit all the videos, but this month I'm pressed for time and wanted to see how long the whole shebang was.
An hour and thirty five-ish minutes.
So I haven't listened to anything.
I dunno if I was supposed to insert audio anywhere.
It's a surprise for everybody!
Please Hold For Dave Sim 11/2025
09 Nov 2025
01:41:49
It's the November Please Hold For Dave Sim, wherein Dave:
Dave discusses Tristan and Iseult and the Research I found on it
Dave discusses why there's no print glamourpuss collection
Dave wanted me to record my bit from the Faux, but that involves more work than it's worth. Here's what I said:
"Well, the comic art stuff is basically The Strange Death of Alex Raymond, and the fashion parody material is essentially the humor in Cerebus in Hell?, so glamourpuss is (ya know, if you squint a little) continuing in the pages of those two books. In my opinion, your results may vary…"
and
"Ian!
The sad answer is that the hardcovers don't bring in enough money to justify the cost (I think there are things that could be done to lower said costs, but since Dave isn't a "hardcover guy", it's a moot point...)
Softcovers are losers too since Diamond is out of business, and them buying a significant chunk of the print run is the only way to finance the 17 to 20 grand printing bill.
Dave has said that he's open to printing expensive "one offs" of any of the out of print phonebooks through Studio Comix Press.
But, I'll ask, things might have changed...
Manly
So, there’s that to chew over while you munch your…wait, I already did that joke, didn’t I?"
Dave discusses a technique he picked up from Little Annie Fannie
Dave discusses a Fake Cerebus page
Dave discusses new printings of the phonebooks
It's a hoot.
See you next month...
Please Hold For Dave Sim 10/2025
30 Sep 2025
01:26:25
Hey, look Dave Sim's back answering peoples questions and comments and reminiscing about..."the good times".
Like:
MJ Sewall wrote Dave a letter. He's also working on a biography of Dave. Jeff Seiler would NOT be pleased...
Matt (that's me) asked Dave for status updates on The Strange Death of Alex Raymond and the Ninja High School crossover.
Then Steve Bissette got into the Eisner Hall of Fame. I let Dave know.
James Banderas-Smith tagged me in a thing about Jim Raymond, Alex's brother and the artist on Blondie dying. And I thought it was weird that both Jim Raymond and Stan Drake worked on Blondie. AND Dave drops some knowledge!
Then Dave discusses an old WAP article James Bananarama-Smith found...
and the Marvel "Cease & Desist" letter Dave got about the Wolveroach...
and the Poster for The Towering Inferno...
Mario said some nice things about me, Dave says some nice things too.
And then things in the Faux went missing so Dave talks about his Mom throwing away his comics. (Which led Matt to track down an article from Playboy from December 1970. "I was googling Playboy for the ARTICLES, Ma!".)
Good times, good times...
Please Hold For Dave Sim 9/2025
30 Aug 2025
03:56:39
Dave Sim (acoustically) and Matt Dow (spiritually/editorially/technically/not-actually) return for the...uh...eight, nine, SEPTEMBER Please Hold For Dave Sim. In this one:
Dave and Matt need to change how they do these things.
And then Dave discusses the Late Jim Shooter's remembrance of the Wolveroach affair.
MJ Sewall (who's writing a biography of Dave Sim, I know, Jeff Seiler is spinning in his grave...) has a question that Dave has a sorta answer to.
Dave remembers the late Jim Shooter and their relationship, including how Dave's portfolio of Marvel characters "Original Sim" appeared in Marvel Fanfare #25. And how the planned Cerebus/X-Men crossover came to be.
Dave gets follow-ups to the July/August Please Hold from our resident transcriptionist @SanctuaryofReality
David Birdsong has some questions, and Dave has some Cerebus in Hell? ideas...
Dave answers a number of questions from MJ Sewall relating to MJ's upcoming biography about Dave.
Dave's dramatic reading of a short story sent in by Byron Dunbar, which ties in to the last two pages of The Strange Death of Alex Raymond Dave has completed.
Please Hold For Dave Sim 7/2025 II: The Revenge!
12 Jul 2025
01:11:48
Geez, you thought it was over just because it was the first Saturday of the month?
Fool!
"Having no working phone or fax, the idea of recording these as a live conversation between Dave Sim and Manly Matt Dow on the first Thursday of the month has pretty much gone out the window. Now, Matt sends whatever questions he's gotten up to Dave once a week, and Dave records answers and sends those files back. And then Matt edits them into these things forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and..."
Dave talks alot about the things I sent him. I dunno, writing these synopsizes is a pain...
Please Hold For Dave Sim 7/2025
06 Jul 2025
03:26:21
Having no working phone or fax, the idea of recording these as a live conversation between Dave Sim and Manly Matt Dow on the first Thursday of the month has pretty much gone out the window. Now, Matt sends whatever questions he's gotten up to Dave once a week, and Dave records answers and sends those files back. Which means it's easier to produce the video version on the YouTube then it it to make the audio version on the Spotify...
This month, Dave talks for around three and a half hours. And this isn't even all the questions, so there will probably be a part two...
Please Hold For Dave Sim 6/2025
05 Jun 2025
02:35:14
So... Dave Sim currently has no working phone, or fax machine.
"That means no more Please Hold right?"
Sorry Imaginary Spotify listener, who I didn't even realize lives rent free in my head, as they say "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds". Which means, Dave and I found a workaround. I email the Qs to the printshop, and they print them out, Dave's assistant picks them up, and then Dave records his As on his professional recorder (so the sound is REAL good!), has it sent to me, and I cobble it all together.
"Wait, no Matt-meandering-gobbledeygook? That's gotta make this pretty short..."
You'd think that, but the Audio runs two hours and thirty-five minutes...
This time: (I haven't listened to these fully, so I can only go by what I sent Dave)
Dave discusses a box of stuff Matt Sent
Then a PRE-Hold For Dave Sim, of things I would have just faxed up as they came across my desk, but I sent to be printed the same day as this month's questions
Then the official questions:
Matt remembers Jeff Seiler
Dave remembers Jackson "Butch" Guice and Peter David
A message from Zolastraya
Fernando Ramirez's next Cerebus short story
@creative_fey AKA April C.'s next batch of questions
Jesse Herndon's Please Hold transcript for July 2024
Zombie Cerebus covers
"CEREBUS ARCHIVE - FIRST RELEASE" gold seals
the indicia on issue #6
the day Elvis and his mom died and Madonna was born
Strange Death of Alex Raymond original art portfolios?
This month's Please Hold strip
That's what I asked, but, again, I haven't listened to the whole thing, so no idea what Dave may have skipped/cut out.
Let's find out together!

07 Feb 2025
02:02:44
Cerebus creator and Aardvark-Vanaheim President Dave Sim, and A Moment of Cerebus Interim Editor Manly Matt Dow are back with the SECOND P.H.F.D.S. (that's Please Hold For Dave Sim for the acronym deficient amongst you...) of 2025!
How's everybody holding up? Great. I don't care.
Anywho, this month Dave and Manly have a lively and fun discussion of:
Manly remembers Cerebus fan Jeff Seiler in a story that touches on Dave's latest Kickstarter, and paying royalties to eight guys when the profits aren't that big to begin with.
Dave's thoughts on how current creators can overcome the problem of distribution as the industry contracts, and how Diamond's Bankruptcy will effect AV.
Then we got our first Podcaster, since Dave instituted his Podcaster Policy, April C. AKA: @creative_fey, host of the Off the Spinner Rack Podcast, who got an exclusive (which means I didn't slot the audio in, you can see it on her channel) from Dave, which can be viewed here.
MJ Sewall, proprietor of Alfie's Fish & Chips (stop in and tell your server you heard of Alfie's on Please Hold For Dave Sim for COMPLEMENTARY water, and a hug...), asks Dave "Where did your love of black and white art begin? "
Does Dave just randomly reread Cerebus?
The backstory on Cerebus being on the cover of Mile High Comics catalog in 1982.
Dave answers: "How would Dave rank each phonebook in terms of his personal enjoyment/satisfaction?" And "How would Dave rank each phonebook in terms with sales".
How Dave and Gerhard split their original art between themselves when Ger left AV.
How Cerebus Fan Jeff Seiler's untimely death led to a page of original art from the end of Church & State being lost to the wild.
Dave's thoughts on Josh Even's custom 3D printed Cerebus action figure.
And is Dave doing commissions?
Fernando H. Ramirez did a twelve page Cerebus story. Dave remembers the SPIRITS OF INDEPENDENCE tour stop in Austin, TX, and how he would try and help young upcomers like he was helped by a 1978 signing with John Byrne.
All this and Bernie Wrightson too!
Please Hold For Dave Sim 1/2025
03 Jan 2025
02:55:59
The Year? 2025. Which is when Stephen King’s novel The Running Man (published as written by Richard Bachman.) is set. People aren’t currently being hunted for television, but we’re only three days into this crapfest, so “there’s still time”?
which leads to Dave announcing Aardvark-Vanaheim's plans for 2025, first up (if Donald Trump doesn't crap all over Canada,) CAN11 and Narutobus on the Kickstarter!
Did You Know?: Dave was in discussions to license/sell Cerebus to DC Comics in 1985. Dave reads the thirty-nine year old proposal (spoilers: he turned down $100,000. Then he self-distributed the collected High Society and made $150,000 a year later.)
Now it CAN be told! DAVE screwed up your bookshelf...
Cerebus continuity
Matt's Steamboat Willie/Blade Runner mash-up (prints are coming soon?)
Neal Adams and Creator's Rights
2025 Dave's thoughts on Deni Loubert and Cerebus in 1977
What does a normal day look like for Dave Sim?
Why an Aardvark?
Does Dave celebrate New Year's?
Anniversary tours?
A Cerebus bi-monthly spin-off book by other creators?
Dave's thoughts on modern day Canadian life.
The location and condition of Dave's Albatross notebooks (used in the creation of Cerebus from issues 20 through 300) (Trigger Warning for Margaret: it...it's not good...not good...)
Who was Dave's model for F. Stop Kennedy in Going Home? (spoilers: it was F. Scott Fitzgerald.)
Hoo-boy it's two hours fifty-six minutes of distraction from the fact that their gonna hunt you down for May sweeps!

Holy crow! It's the FIFTH anniversary episode of Please Hold For Dave Sim! Five years of holding. Five years of two dudes talking about a cartoon aardvark. Over sixty hours of AMOC's Manly Matt Dow trying to make Dave Sim laugh. Five years with a lot of answers to a lot of questions. Like these:
Matt remembers Jeff Seiler's car.
Dave skips Lank Stephens because, oh god the questions...
VGDC Maroro asks about:
Judith Bradford
a sort of "list of exercises" for one to learn how to ink lines
How does one figure out how far one can push the expression of a character until it becomes off-model
How did you go about making the rock-climbing scene from Church & State so heartpoundingly thrilling that it took me all the way to 5 paragraphs of the brick wall that is Chasing
YHWH in like 2 days
If you had the ability to draw without any pain in any bit of your arms tomorrow, would you attempt a second magnum-opus like Cerebus was?
What is your take on the ethics of artists using an AI trained nonconsensually on the work of other artists as a tool to help them?
Does Glenn Vilppu's technique work for cartoon characters that were constructed two-dimensionally like Fred Flintstone rather than ones made of 3D forms like Mickey Mouse?
Dodger wants to know about Dave's thoughts on Marvel & DC's B/W reprint lines.
Steve has inquiries about Jeff Seiler's copy of The Cerebus Guide to Self-Puplishing.
Margaret has one of them notebook questions.
Zipper wants to know if he has a rare misprint.
Christon has questions about Cerebus #1.
Philip Fry has questions about two unnamed guys from the first 13 issues.
Mike Sewall wants to know how long SDOAR is gonna be.
James Windsor-Smith has questions about Matt's favorite cartoon.
Wayne Thomas has questions about Deni Sim's signature.
Aaron Wood makes us hungry...
And has questions about Superman.
It's another two hours and twenty minutes added to the pile of content we provide you...for free.

Dave answers a question from his YouTube Channel, from Lank Stephens, about collaboration between a foreground and background artist. (Dave promises this might be an ongoing discussion...)
Dave and Matt answer Jason Trimmer's question about the resemblance between President Biden and Mary Hemingway.
And Dave answers a hypothetical (I KNOW!)

And Dave answers if he's doing conventions or signings.

Dave answers NOT Mike's (oh thank god, I was beginning to think I was stuck in a Kafkaesque nightmare of Mikes...) question about Rodney Schroeter's book, Mission of Benevolent Greed.
Dave answers another NOT Mike question, this time about where the Cerebus warehouse books ended up, and offers a new "Swordfish" deal to all the listeners who find themselves in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
Dave answers Tony "Michael" Dunlop's question about Cerebus Archive Portfolios.
What I say? A "hoot"! (If you find yourself "hoot-less", contact me for a full refund.)

"Dapper" Dave Sim and Manly Matt Dow return, once again, for their Monthly phone chat that Manly records and edits together and posts here.
We call it Please Hold For Dave Sim.
In the April 2023 Please Hold, Dave and Matt discuss:
Can Matt refer to a Strong. Independent. Female. As a... "broad" (Manly sez: "Dude, she invites four underage dudes to move in with her within hours of first meeting them. Broad is one of the NICEST terms I could use...")
Manly let's YOU, yes, YOU! know that if you missed out on The Waverly Press & Aardvark-Vanaheim’s Remaster of Eastman & Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Number Eight Featuring Dave Sim’s Cerebus the Aardvark, you gots the 2nd chance thanks to the The Waverly Press & Aardvark-Vanaheim’s Remaster of Eastman & Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Number Eight Featuring Dave Sim’s Cerebus the Aardvark Indiegogo campaign.
And Manly christens the new version "The Last Void". (See, the spine reads "Form & Void", even though it's the Remastered The Last Day, as we said, "Mistakes were made." It's either "The Last Void", or "Form & Day"...)
Dave announces the beginnings of a plan to sell copies of the Remastered The Last Day, Signed by Dave ANDGerhard, with a Last Day Cerebus head sketch Remarque in silver on the cover by Dave, on CerebusDownloads.com for the low low price of $XXXCAD (we're still working out the price. BUT, the first Day will have a discount for loyal listeners/readers. More details as Dave and the Cerebus Braintrust make them up...)

Matt remembers Cerebus fan, and Dave Sim Superfan, Jeff Seiler. Specifically that time Jeff nearly cancelled Judenhass and glamourpuss. Good times.
Dave answers the first (in what will be a series of questions) from Adam J. Elkhadem, creator of Octave the Artist
Then a deep dive into the can of worms Darrell Cook opened in the Cerebus Faceybookee group, wherein he talks about Jaka's molestation as a child, and his suspicions that Lord Julius was the culprit. This goes on for a while...
And more! (Maybe. Probably. You got the time, listen and find out for yourself...)

01:42:48
Well here we are, the FINAL Please Hold For Dave Sim. Of 2022.
Or, EVER.
I dunno. I just send the questions and record the answers, I'm not in charge of anything.
Anyway, this time Dave and Matt talk about:
Jeff Seiler's Kansas City Royals annual (Let's hope it went to KC or Cooperstown...)
Barry Windsor-Smith's Frost Giant's Daughter
Harry Truman and the Sunday funnies
If this is the FINAL Please Hold, or not?
What Dave would change in Cerebus if he could
What books Dave recommends
If Dave would ever try a Cerebus-like project again
An idea to make Dave some of that money we’ve heard so much about
The contents of Cerebus volume 1, and what's missing and why
The Form & Void remastered campaign
What to do with your collection to keep your non-fan kids/heirs from missing out on cashing in when you cash out
And if this is REALLY the FINALE, or not?
If this IS the last one, we had a pretty good four year run. And that means there's an end to what Jesse Herndon has to transcribe, and the book of transcripts can get sketched out in Matt's head.
(I wonder if Gerhard is gonna be busy in January?)
