Alternate Reality - Episode #406 Well when we last left you, we promised to only be gone 2 or 3 weeks. Its been more like 5. Wow, we really pooched that one, didn’t we? In all fairness there was no way for Jon to know just how long his recovery would be after surgery. So what seem like a easy time of sitting propped up in a recliner for a couple weeks turned into a vomit spewing catastrophe. Luckily, Jon pulled through and we can finally get back to talking about geek stuff. And Talk they did. This week the boys talk about fewer book than usual and yet manage to run longer than usual. But I guess you can chock it up to podcasting withdrawal syndrome as they couldn’t seem to get enough when they got to talking. They talked about everything from comics to Transformers to convention appearances, and several topics in-between. So sit back, strap in, and get ready, cause Alternate Reality is back baby!!!!! Despite torrential flooding, the Alternate Reality crew is still here and all without building an Ark. We managed to survive the flood waters this time but with a new hurricane coming in on the eastern seaboard, we’re liable to be up to our necks in it. In the meantime, we’re already up to our necks in comics. We’ve got an assortment for you this week as Jon and Charlie talk about everything from James Bond in WWII, to the Star Wars Universe and all points in-between. And if that wasn’t enough for you, the boys take some extra time to dive outside the comics book flood waters into other seas of geekery. We take a quick look at Spider-Man which just hit the PS4 and Iron Fist season 2 which just hit Netflix. Uh oh, I should have said that. Whenever we say we’re gonna do anything quick, or just touch on a subject for a few mins, the episode turns out to be twice as long. Well, perhaps that’s for the best as the boys must take an extended brake after this so Jon can go to the Cleveland Clinic and be seen by the world’s best doctors. So this double length episode may have to last as much as three weeks before Alternate Reality will be back. Sorry, but that’s just the way things go sometimes. Enjoy!!! Alternate Reality - Episode #397 All in all, it’s starting to feel a little like autumn. The days are getting a little shorter, it’s still warm outside but the evenings aren’t as bad. Labor Day will be on us next week, and not long after that the leaves will start to turn colors. We’re starting to look forward to harvest, pumpkins, trick-or-treat, and scary tales. Scary things are the theme this week as we’re talking werewolves. But not just werewolves, the boys also talk about what makes Batman the biggest boogie-man in the dark. The Justice League are busy fighting things that go bump in the night in JLA Dark. Speaking of the dark, it doesn’t get much darker that the cold unfeeling heart of Darth Vader. Jon and Charlie talk about what makes him tick in last week’s issue. Taken together it’s a spook-tacular warm up to what’s bound to be an excellent Halloween season. Enjoy!!! Alternate Reality - Episode #395 After a week off Jon and Charlie are back with another jam-packed episode. We’re covering two weeks’ worth of books tonight. The boys start off with a very thoughtful email from longtime friend of the show Matthew Kaiser. Then they go thought a bevy of books from Darth Vader to Justice League and everything in between. Next, we spend some time talking about the latest Kickstarter project from Jimmy Palmiotti and they guys and girls over at Paperfilms. This new project is a mature graphic novel featuring nudity, sex, guns, violence, and death. What’s not to love? This in-your-face adventure called “Killing Time in America” was a fantastic read and Jon gives us a glimpse of what makes the book so special. Lastly Jon and Charlie talk about San Diego Comic Con, all the movie trailers that came out, as well as DC’s new steaming service. Alternate Reality - Episode #394 Jon’s weekend got jacked. A bunch of stuff came up that kept him from doing his required reading. He knew based on tweets that Charlie was going to be talking about Flash #50 and the end of Flash War. So Jon, who was behind on Flash made a point to read the previous 4 Flash issues as well as #50 to have an intelligent conversation with Charlie about the book. He even got to read a couple other books. But that’s it. With close to 20 books in Jon’s pile he read 7, and 5 of them were from one title. *Sigh* So this week Jon breaks out a couple new books for us. Superman #1 from Brian Michael Bendis and Ivan Reis. He also looks at the new Amazing Spider-Man #1 from Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley. While Charlie on the other hand, working to fill the gap, talks about the afore mentioned Flash #50, X-Men: Grand Design #1, and Archie #32. All that and we still come up an issue short but long on time,… how’s that work?!? Oh well,…. Enjoy!!!
