160. A visibility coach on how to decide what you want to be known for — Steph Wharton22 Oct 202600:38:31

Steph Wharton is a leadership and visibility coach, a public speaker and the founder of the Speaker Movement, and she'll be the first to tell you she was painfully shy growing up.

Andrea sat down with her in person to talk about what visibility looks like for working moms, whether that's on a stage, on LinkedIn or at the playground. They get into the many hats we wear and the question of whether we're "enough" in any of them, how to decide what you actually want to be visible for, why you don't need a rags-to-riches story to have something worth sharing, and beginner-friendly public speaking tips for easing your nerves the next time you have to speak in front of people.

And, we leave you with a little visibility challenge.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (02:50) From painfully shy to public speaking
  • (05:40) The panel that changed how she marketed herself
  • (07:42) Speaking as a seat of authority
  • (09:09) "Am I Latina enough?" and the many hats we wear
  • (11:58) Reclaiming her Latinidad
  • (13:11) Am I enough of a mother?
  • (15:04) Moms, visibility and "visible for what?"
  • (17:33) Your internal and external reasons for showing up
  • (19:55) Where to start when you don't have a big breakthrough story
  • (22:32) "Tell me about yourself" and visibility in everyday moments
  • (25:37) Public speaking nerves and sounding like yourself
  • (28:18) Authenticity, trial and error and practising without posting
  • (30:55) Treating showing up like a campaign
  • (33:51) A one-thing visibility challenge
  • (36:14) What Steph's still working on
  • (37:39) Where to find Steph

KEY TAKEAWAY

Before you worry about how to be more visible, decide what you want to be visible for: what you value, what brings you joy, and what you want to be known for next. Then pick one thing you love that you wish more people knew about you, share it, and show up as much like yourself as you possibly can.

Tori Wesszer is a registered dietitian, a bestselling cookbook author, a mom of two boys and, somewhat by accident, the founder of a software company. Andrea sat down with her in Kelowna right at the end of the tour for her new cookbook, Fraiche and Simple, to talk about the question every busy parent hears around 5:30 PM: what's for dinner? They get into why that question feels so heavy, what a dietitian really thinks about packaged snacks and takeout pizza night, whether AI belongs in your kitchen, and how Tori went from 16 years in a "really good job" to building something of her own.
**
In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (04:23) From dietitian to "what am I doing with my life?"
  • (06:03) A business that folded, and the start of the blog

  • (28:49) The 15-minute weekly habit, and feeding yourself too
  • (30:55) Food ruts, variety and "the poison is in the dose"
  • (32:23) Mom guilt, packaged snacks and pattern over plate
  • (34:53) Fed is best
  • (35:52) Extra kids at the table and no short-order cooking
  • (38:19) Hosting when your house isn't perfect
  • (41:11) A digital kitchen assistant for holiday hosting
  • (42:40) Accidentally owning a software company
  • (45:31) What's next
  • (49:37) Letting go of all-or-nothing thinking

KEY TAKEAWAY

157. 8 surgeries in 18 months, and where he is 5 years later — Scotty Barr01 Oct 202601:03:00

Three years ago, Scotty Barr (Andrea's husband) came on the show to share the story of eight heart surgeries in eighteen months, more than 100 days in the hospital, and becoming a dad in the middle of it all.

And at one point, it became one of our most-listened-to episodes ever, and now Scotty is back to take back the first place!

In this episode, Andrea and Scotty get into how he's rebuilt a rhythm across work, health and family, what it's really like being married to your total opposite, why a cardiac patient on blood thinners ended up in a boxing gym, and what each of them is still trying to figure out.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (02:15) Catching up: eight surgeries in eighteen months
  • (05:36) Where he is now, five years later
  • (07:49) Building a rhythm, and the 95/5 rule from Unreasonable Hospitality
  • (10:44) Married to your opposite: routine vs. chaos
  • (12:49) Work: the 3-month contract that turned into almost 5 years
  • (16:05) No work email on his phone, and the 4-day week he kept
  • (18:21) Ego, ambition, and "does this meeting really make sense?"
  • (22:27) Where a "hired gun" fits in the job market
  • (23:47) Health: life after the hospital, and getting into strength training
  • (28:15) A Beautiful Constraint: how limits lead to creativity
  • (30:46) Parenthood as a constraint, and why we love a recalibration
  • (33:08) Finding the right coach, and why a cardiac patient took up boxing
  • (39:53) Sharing boxing with our daughter
  • (47:37) Martial arts, and the mind-body connection
  • (49:20) Why it's good to have your own thing
  • (51:46) Building a care team that actually talks to each other
  • (55:54) What Andrea's figuring out
  • (59:09) What Scotty's figuring out

KEY TAKEAWAY

Put a few solid rhythms in place for the things that matter most, let everything else stay flexible, and when something stops working, say so and recalibrate together. The limits you're living with (time, energy, little kids) can make the next choice a whole lot clearer.

155. How to raise body neutral kids in a diet-culture world — Penny Greening17 Sep 202600:56:33

DISCLAIMER: this episode discusses disordered eating, eating disorders, and body image in depth. If that's not what you need today, we'll see you on the next one — and if you or someone you love is struggling, Reframe Voices Society (reframevoices.ca) and NEDIC, the National Eating Disorder Information Centre (nedic.ca), are great places to start.

Penny Greening is the founder and executive director of Reframe Voices Society — a creative brand strategist, former communications agency director, and community mental health advocate whose own life has moved through corporate marketing, bodybuilding, motherhood, and, eventually, building a nonprofit from scratch.

Andrea and Penny chat about what an eating disorder is (guess what? 2 definitions!), why the word "fat" needs to be defused instead of avoided, and what body neutral parenting actually looks like in a house that isn't getting it perfect at every meal.
**
In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (01:12) Who is Penny Greening today?
  • (05:14) Andrea visiting a friend in the hospital with anorexia
  • (05:32) Two definitions of an eating disorder, and "the monster"
  • (08:19) Atypical anorexia, and a new word: "cachectic"
  • (13:25) Healthism, and the culture that rewards it
  • (15:09) The postpartum relapse, and the line a doc said after delivery
  • (18:47) The four C's of eating disorders
  • (22:29) Weight stigma and the word "fat"
  • (33:51) Is it ok to praised a finished plate?
  • (39:57) Adolescence — what to watch for between ages 8 and 14
  • (44:14) A message to parents managing their own eating disorder while raising kids
  • (46:36) Why "she's getting thinner" isn't a diagnosis
  • (50:47) Eating disorders don't discriminate — and it happens to men too
  • (52:07) Should this be proactive, or do you wait for your kid to bring it up?

KEY TAKEAWAY

There's no moral value attached to fat, skinny, big, small — it just is. Body neutral parenting comes down to the words already happening in your kitchen, and whether they let food and bodies stay that neutral, or start turning them into something to be earned or ashamed of.

About Penny Greening

Penny Greening is a creative brand strategist, former communications agency director, community mental health advocate and nonprofit founder whose work sits at the intersection of education and social impact. Once the Director of Marketing for Innovative Fitness, she helped shape a whole-person approach to selling healthy habits for life, while raising her daughter.

A fifth-term board member with Variety - The Children’s Charity of BC, Penny founded BC-nonprofit Reframe Voices Society in 2025, after recognizing a critical gap in the public awareness of how and when eating disorders truly begin.

Today, she leads a multidisciplinary team of volunteers equipping parents and guardians of school-aged children and teens, with the language and practical tools they need to protect their child against eating disorders when it comes to food, feelings and body talk.

154. Why "how was your day?" is the wrong question to ask after school10 Sep 202601:06:19

Sandy Ewert spent a decade in the classroom before she became a school counsellor and, eventually, a private-practice family and child therapist. She's coached hundreds of kids through the exact thing every family is living through right now — and this September, for the first time, she's doing it as a parent herself, with a son about to start kindergarten and a six-month-old at home. In this episode, we get into what actually helps a kid get through a hard transition, what a school counsellor really does all day, and the honest answer to whether "knowing too much" makes the back-to-school season any easier.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (01:52) Sandy's path: a decade as a teacher, now a school counsellor and private-practice family therapist
  • (03:37) Coming at back-to-school as a parent, not just a professional, for the first time
  • (08:10) What a school counsellor actually does (and why the job is "on fire on roller skates")
  • (12:35) When "good enough" isn't good enough — advocating for kids who look fine on paper
  • (16:14) "Tell me more": a phrase that actually gets a kid talking
  • (25:44) Building a family toolkit that's dependent on your specific kid
  • (27:02) The "yellow zone" — catching dysregulation before the meltdown
  • (27:40) The "dress rehearsal": practicing for the first day, and why preparation is the antidote to anxiety
  • (35:14) After-school reconnection, and why "how was your day?" is the wrong opener
  • (37:29) The blood sugar rule every parent needs before pickup
  • (38:29) Movement and reading what a kid actually needs
  • (47:48) Letting kids struggle enough to feel capable, without over-parenting
  • (54:56) The signs it's time to bring in a family counsellor
  • (01:04:53) What is Sandy trying to figure out

KEY TAKEAWAY

Preparation is the antidote to anxiety — rehearse the hard transition before it happens instead of hoping you survive it. When the big feelings show up anyway, meet them with connection, not another question.

About Sandy Ewert

Sandy has spent nearly two decades supporting children and families first as a teacher and now as a counsellor both in private practice and within the school system. During her time in education, she has spent time in a variety of roles including specialized behaviour support program teacher, special education teacher and currently school counsellor. Sandy is most passionate and ignited by walking along side children in finding their voice and living life as their most authentic and best lives. She describes her work in private practice as a “Children’s life coach.” Sandy believes that her purpose is to be a conduit between adults and children, helping adults to better understand each individual child for who they truly are without the desire to change them.

🛍️ USE CODE ALLFIGUREDOUT20 TO GET 20% OFF AT marisdae.com

Dr. Sarah Harbottle has one of those resumes that seems impossible on paper: naturopathic doctor, lawyer, mom of four, clinic owner, and head of product at Maris Dae.

She didn't plan any of it — she once thought she'd become a conventional doctor, then spent seven years as a lawyer instead, before a decision at 32 sent her back to school to become a naturopathic doctor. What she didn't plan for was how much life would happen in the middle of that degree.

In this episode, we get into the identity crisis of a total career pivot, what actually kept her going through the hardest years of school, her naturopathic take on skin health, and whether your workout might be doing more harm than good.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (01:18) Lawyer, naturopathic doctor, mom of 4, clinic owner, head of product at Maris Dae, founder of Parave
  • (02:56) Back to the beginning — why she almost became a conventional doctor
  • (03:02) Discovering naturopathic medicine in the early 2000s
  • (05:04) Choosing law instead, and finding her way into health law

  • (14:55) Advice for anyone sitting on a decision they haven't made yet
  • (16:44) How joining Maris Dae actually happened
  • (18:41) Skin is the largest organ — what that actually means for your health
  • (19:35) Sarah's approach to skin: internal first, external second
  • (20:54) Why skin is having such a cultural moment right now
  • (24:07) Redefining self-care in 2- and 5-minute increments
  • (26:06) Can a workout be too intense?
  • (28:38) The "bubbling pot" — and the one question to ask before saying yes to anything

  • (36:41) Self-care as the non-negotiable foundation everything else depends on
  • (38:36) Where to find Dr. Sarah Harbottle

152. She pitched investors 38 weeks pregnant — Sam Rayner26 Aug 202601:03:06

🛍️ USE CODE ALLFIGUREDOUT20 TO GET 20% OFF AT marisdae.com

Sam Rayner spent over a decade climbing the corporate marketing ladder — AG Hair, Lululemon, an MBA, a job offer from a massive global conglomerate she turned down on gut instinct alone.

Then life did what life does: both her parents died of cancer within a short window of each other and she went through multiple failed rounds of IVF.

Somewhere along the way, her mom’s words became her mantra — “you need to live life harder”, which led Sam to build Better Basics and now her new brand, Maris Dae, a marine-hydration skincare line built around a proprietary seaweed extract sourced and processed entirely in BC.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (03:48) Corporate girly Sam — her marketing career
  • (05:44) Turning down a massive global job offer on gut instinct alone
  • (09:37) "My break will be maternity leave" — and when that plan didn't pan out
  • (13:53) Her mom's dying words: "you need to live life harder"
  • (15:50) How she was able to have her two kids
  • (20:03) Losing both parents to cancer — and what that taught her about control
  • (20:55) Where the idea for Better Basics came from
  • (25:14) Growing Better Basics for three years
  • (25:53) "We were basically bleeding cash"
  • (26:44) Investor pitches, and doing it all in her third trimester
  • (30:13) Calling it a pause — and selling out in 30 days
  • (31:54) Teaching product design and brand strategy at SFU
  • (36:26) The 35 customer interviews that led to Maris Dae
  • (38:27) Finding a seaweed farmer and building the Maris Element
  • (44:57) Inside the body wash + body serum
  • (50:57) What's next: gut-health supplements and a gentler kids' formula
  • (54:04) Competitors, community, and why she's not trying to own the whole shelf
  • (58:00) Her advice for living life harder
  • (1:01:05) Where to find Maris Dae

KEY TAKEAWAY

Closing something isn't the same as failing at it. Sam built Better Basics with everything she had, and when it stopped making sense, she shared with her community, gave herself a deadline and called it a pause instead of an ending. And her fertility journey took some extra love as well. A failure means the book is closed, but a pause means the door stays cracked open ready for a different path life will take.

About Sam Rayner

Samantha Rayner is the Founder and CEO of Maris Dae, a science-backed skin and gut health brand powered by BC sea algae.

After two decades in beauty and wellness brand leadership, she partnered with a biochemist and naturopathic doctor to develop the Maris Element, an exclusive extract of Mazzaella Japonica and bull kelp sourced from Vancouver Island. Maris Dae's debut body care line launched in May 2026 and sold out twice. Rayner is a second-time founder, Business in Vancouver 40 Under 40 honoree, and Techstars alum who previously founded Better Basics and led teams at Saje, lululemon, and AG Care.

151. The full body yes: how to actually know when your gut is right — Courtney Thomas20 Aug 202601:09:46

Courtney Thomas, founder of the Bodhi Effect sits down with Andrea for a vulnerable conversation — the kind we love here at All Figured Out!

Courtney tells the full, unfiltered origin story of The Bodhi Effect: miscarriages, a yoga studio built and run on almost no sleep alongside a full-time corporate job, and a name that came from a goosebump-inducing story.

From there, she and Andrea get into what intuition actually is, how to tell it apart from anxiety and intrusive thoughts, why "I'm just not an intuitive person" doesn't hold up, and why Courtney’s own Oura Ring ended up in the garbage.

Courtney also introduces her new Flow Writing Collection — a journal and oracle card deck built from a practice she's been leading in her community since 2021.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (03:45) Vulnerability vs. trauma dumping — how Courtney tells the difference
  • (06:21) Who Courtney was before The Bodhi Effect
  • (07:44) Five miscarriages, a busy schedule, and the studio that came out of grief
  • (09:46) Where the name "Bodhi" actually came from
  • (12:22) How she knew it was time to close the studio
  • (20:31) What intuition actually is, in Courtney's own definition
  • (22:00) Intuition vs. intrusive thoughts and anxiety — how to tell them apart
  • (24:05) Andrea's own "full body yes" — the moment she decided to start this podcast
  • (27:34) "How's that working out for you?" — for the people who say they're not intuitive
  • (29:21) Andrea's Aritzia story: the shame of not having "the data"
  • (33:28) Why hyper-measurement and hyper-optimization are quietly breaking us
  • (45:21) Choosing a candle over ice cream — sitting with hard feelings instead of numbing out
  • (53:26) What flow writing actually is, and the new Flow Writing Collection
  • (59:43) Making wellness accessible
  • (1:02:31) Rapid fire questions
  • (1:06:55) What Courtney is still trying to figure out

KEY TAKEAWAY

Your intuition and your anxiety can feel like the same volume, but they're not the same voice. Intuition comes in fast, calm, and unforced — anxiety negotiates. The more you measure, track, and optimize, the harder that signal gets to hear.

150 episodes in: why I stopped trying to sound "polished"13 Aug 202600:17:16

Ten years ago, while working in leadership development at Aritzia, she hired a speaking coach because — despite getting great feedback — she wrote in her journal that she felt like she'd "lost her voice." That coaching relationship ended without ever quite clicking. It took almost a decade, and 150 episode of doing the actual thing, for the lesson to actually land: the ums, ahs, and pauses she wanted to fix, are the actual things that make her sound human, specially in 2026, when we’re second-guessing every audio, and video is AI-made or human-made. Andrea gets into the full speaking coach story, why paying for something is what really cements the intention, her client’s pottery goal as a case study in “doing the thing”, and the podcast’s own milestone numbers after four years!

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (01:51) The story starts at Aritzia in front of a room of 100 people
  • (03:54) Losing confidence and losing my own voice
  • (04:53) Hiring a speaking coach
  • (07:14) The TED Talk lessons and why people like to hear humans
  • (09:17) 150 episodes of practice and finally getting compliments on vocabulary
  • (10:53) The real lesson: Pay the money, do the thing
  • (11:35) The strawberry bowl case study
  • (13:42) Podcast’s milestones: Four years, two kids, top 3% podcast
  • (16:01) A love letter to my listeners 💜

KEY TAKEAWAY

The investment is what makes the intention real, anyone can write a goal on a piece of paper, but not everyone is willing to put money behind it. You don’t need to have “all figured out” (pun intended), just keep showing up for it, on purpose, every week.

149. Millennial moms yap about Keds, a shopping app scandal, and quitting mom guilt06 Aug 202601:00:30

This is YAP number two — Andrea's back with her YAP co-host (and childhood pal) Lauren Naderi for round two of the unstructured, “whatever's-actually-on-our-mind” format. This time they gave it some shape: four categories, all starting with F — fun, fashion, feel good, and forensics.

Inside: a TikTok dance so hard Andrea can't get through it in her garage, a Keds mystery nobody will take credit for, the exact line that might change how you get dressed tomorrow, frictionless home organization systems, and the shopping-app scandal they can't stop talking about.
In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (02:21) The four categories: fun, fashion, feeling good, forensics
  • (04:58) For fun: the Puerto Rico dance trend that's harder than it looks
  • (08:27) For fun: bringing back magazine subscriptions
  • (13:59) For fashion: the pull-on pants midsummer check-in (and how to manage the wrinkles)
  • (17:40) For fashion: the great Keds mystery — and are Keds actually making a comeback?
  • (24:11) Dolce Vita sale sandals, personal style, and why saving your "good" clothes for later doesn't work
  • (31:26) Dress for the day you wanna have
  • (32:14) For feeling good: frictionless home organization and direct storage
  • (41:06) For forensics: the TikToker who quit breastfeeding — and why neither host thinks she needs to apologize
  • (48:37) For forensics: the Phia scandal — cookie stuffing, and affiliate fraud
  • (55:27) What Lauren and Andrea are each figuring out this week

KEY TAKEAWAY

Not everything comes down to having a five-year plan, sometimes all it takes is a frictionless junk drawer, letting go of that “should” that never really made sense, or even wearing the good underwear on a random Tuesday! Dress, organize and show up for the day you actually want to have — not the one you think you're supposed to have.

147. A calculated risk, a maternity leave, and a business that grew anyway with Georgina Wysiecki24 Jul 202600:55:29

This week's guest has been on the podcast twice before, once for infant sleep and once for toddler sleep, and this time the conversation just went wherever it wanted to go.

We get into the calculated risk that let her build a private sleep-consulting practice instead of going back to a full-time job, the extended-health-benefits detail that changed the trajectory of her business, and what she wants every parent to know about sleep myths — like: there's no universal amount of sleep any kid "should" get, and there's no moral failing in a later bedtime.

We also chat about her child’s recent autism diagnosis, what the private assessment process looked like, and how she processed it as a mom before she processed it as a professional. From there it's the Fair Play method revisited, a garbage-bag story that changed how one household splits invisible labor, a whiteboard life-planning session, and a long, honest conversation about friendship, hobbies, and what's next.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (03:37) Georgina’s story
  • (04:36) Who she is today, and who she was before kids
  • (07:03) The moment she knew her priorities had shifted
  • (08:25) The 6-month runway: a calculated risk
  • (11:01) Navigating people who chalk your success up to luck
  • (14:39) Finding your niche: people pay for transformation, not a skill list
  • (18:37) The biggest myth: not every kid needs the same amount of sleep
  • (22:05) Trial and error, and giving yourself permission to experiment
  • (24:02) The level 1 autism diagnosis
  • (26:33) Building the right supports, at school and at home
  • (29:18) Processing the diagnosis as a mom, not a professional
  • (30:47) "You don't get a medal for doing it alone"
  • (33:22) The first generation figuring out two working parents
  • (35:39) The Fair Play method, revisited
  • (40:38) Andrea and Scotty's whiteboard life-planning day
  • (44:19) "It never works, but it's the backbone"
  • (46:19) On friendship, low effort, and staying close from afar
  • (47:11) What she's figuring out in this season
  • (49:26) Redefining hobbies vs. self-care vs. running a business

KEY TAKEAWAY

Nothing here happened in one clean leap — not the business, not the parenting decisions, not the marriage. It's calculated risk and a lot of trial and error. Whether it's a business, a diagnosis, or a chore chart: you don't get a medal for doing it alone. Ask for the help. Make the invisible stuff visible. Let the plan change.

146. Why FOMO hits so much harder once you have kids10 Jul 202600:44:45

This episode was inspired by and Instagram story I shared about skipping a dinner party I really wanted to go to and how I KNEW before the photos came out, that I’d made the right call.

So many of you reached out wanting more about this topic that I had to record an episode as fast as I could.

We're talking about FOMO: what it actually is, why it gets so much heavier and more layered once you become a parent, and the three questions I ask myself — and my clients — before deciding if something's a hell yeah or a "not right now."

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (04:10) What we actually mean when we say "FOMO"
  • (06:41) FOMO as a career coach: the career you might've had before kids
  • (09:10) Why FOMO and time are inextricably connected
  • (10:10) FOMO before kids vs. FOMO after kids
  • (15:20) Your time away from kids "quota" — actual, and the psychological one you invent
  • (16:54) FOMO and finances: what you're really risking
  • (17:34) "If you say yes to this, what are you saying no to?"
  • (19:42) What actually triggers FOMO
  • (22:09) How to work with FOMO: creating a rhythm
  • (31:21) Checking your ego vs. your soul
  • (32:37) Commit and don't look back — why regret isn't allowed here
  • (34:53) How to prevent it: choosing wisely
  • (37:56) The 3 questions: factors, focus, and options

KEY TAKEAWAY

Before you say yes or no to anything, ask: what are the factors surrounding this? What am I focusing on right now? And what are my options beyond just "go or don't go"? Then commit, and don't look back — you're allowed to learn from a decision, you're never required to regret it.

145. Food noise, hormones, and what moms are secretly talking about with Dr. Ally Power and Liz Dornian03 Jul 202601:09:15

A note on this episode → weight loss is a topic that can be triggering, and that's not lost on us. If today's episode isn't for you right now, it’s more than okay to skip this one. If you're in a season where food, body image, or weight feels like more than you can carry alone, visit nedic.ca for a free national helpline, and a directory of local providers.

Weight loss has become a taboo topic, something that we almost whisper and talk about in secret, but it’s a topic that keeps showing up in nearly every conversation Dr. Ally Power and Liz Dornian have with the moms they work with.

We get into what's actually driving the desire to lose weight, why "the middle ground" between restrictive dieting and total food freedom barely exists in the culture we're swimming in, what GLP-1s are actually doing for the right person, why biohacking makes two health professionals roll their eyes, and the specific, deep-seated shame of already knowing exactly what you're "supposed" to do — and still not doing it.

This one is about feeling better in the one body you get.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (01:01) The topic we've never covered before: weight loss
  • (02:58) Meet Dr. Ally Power: naturopathic medicine for moms
  • (07:01) Meet Liz Dornian: from "nobody wants to hear about nourishment" to weight management
  • (10:16) The real reason moms want to lose weight
  • (15:17) What's actually in "the middle" between diet culture's two extremes
  • (20:56) Moving through weight loss after a history of disordered eating
  • (27:00) What too much restriction actually does to your hormones
  • (33:30) GLP-1s: what they do, and who they're for
  • (38:53) Are GLP-1s putting nutritionists out of business?
  • (44:11) The problem with biohacking, and the unsexy advice that works
  • (54:14) The shame of knowing exactly what to do — and still not doing it
  • (59:33) Detective work, not diet rules: how Liz helps clients find the real problem
  • (01:03:28) Andrea's career-coaching parallel: it's never really about the job (or the weight)

KEY TAKEAWAY Weight loss isn't a moral failing or a finish line — it's hormones, behaviour change, and a lot of self-compassion. Most of us already know what to do. The real work is figuring out why we're not doing it, and getting curious about that instead of ashamed of it.

144. What nobody tells you about going back to work after maternity leave — Andrea Giacomelli19 Jun 202600:58:11

There's a phase of working motherhood that is underrepresented, everyone talks about the birth announcement, the first day back, but no one talks about all the messy stuff in between.

We're talking about finding out you're pregnant three months into a new job. Being diagnosed with HELLP syndrome at 38 weeks and having your baby under general anesthesia in the span of 12 hours. Going off your ADHD medication during pregnancy. Taking nine months of mat leave. And returning to work while simultaneously moving cities, starting daycare, doing a renovation, and your husband switching jobs.

It's a lot. We get into all of it — and the joy and complexities that threads through every single part.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro
  • (01:21) The working mom phase nobody's talking about
  • (03:35) Career, Australia, and falling for an Australian
  • (05:18) Getting pregnant 3 months into a new job
  • (12:45) Going off ADHD meds and working through pregnancy
  • (14:09) Miles comes early
  • (14:48) HELLP syndrome: what it is and why nobody warns you
  • (19:33) "He just appeared"
  • (20:35) The guilt of no handover — and did it actually matter?
  • (25:09) ADHD and new motherhood
  • (27:36) The 9-month mat leave decision
  • (33:45) The September of everything
  • (38:08) Leaving at 4pm and the guilt that follows
  • (39:48) What would actually fix this
  • (46:43) Baby number two?
  • (51:35) "I thank my ADHD for that" — and the EI plot twist nobody told her about
  • (53:12) ADHD meds in pregnancy: what to know
  • (54:25) The HELLP syndrome PSA + closing thoughts

KEY TAKEAWAYThe guilt is almost never warranted. The plan almost never goes as planned. And somehow, you figure it out anyway.

143. Pull-on pants and other musings11 Jun 202601:00:34

Okay, genuinely one of my favourite recordings. Lauren Naderi is one of my oldest friends — we’ve known each other since grade five, all-girls school in Ontario, class of 35. This is her first time on the show, and we are officially launching what I’m calling the “yap” format: no agenda, no lesson plan, just two millennial moms talking about the stuff that’s actually on our minds. Lauren is a designer and tastemaker with incredible range — she has thoughts on your wardrobe, your floor plan, and the emotional weight of having too many rooms you never use.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro + how Lauren and I know each other (grade five, all-girls school, class of 35)
  • (04:00) Lauren’s non-linear career — advertising → holistic nutrition → interior design and why it all makes sense in retrospect
  • (11:00) Postpartum anxiety, identity shifts, and what it actually feels like to lose yourself after having a baby
  • (22:00) The “want less house” trend and where it’s coming from
  • (24:00) Lauren’s move from a nearly 3,000 sq ft suburban house to a 900 sq ft city condo — with a toddler, on purpose
  • (32:00) Why smart storage beats square footage every time (and what to actually spend money on in a reno)
  • (41:00) Pull-on pants and the case for effortless mom dressing
  • (50:00) What Substack is and why we’re both obsessed with long-form content right now
  • (58:00) The yap format — what it is, why we’re doing more of it, and how to send us topics

KEY TAKEAWAYThe square footage you were told to want and the life you actually want to live are often two different things. Same goes for the career path that looks right on paper vs. the one that actually fits. You can absolutely question both!

ABOUT LAUREN NADERILauren Naderi is an interior designer, brand strategist, and multi-passionate entrepreneur based in Toronto. She has a background in advertising and holistic nutrition, went back to corporate after having her daughter, left again, and eventually went all in on interior design. She works with clients on spaces that feel intentional — not just beautiful. She is also, as of this episode, the co-host of our yap format. Mom to an almost-four-year-old. Recently moved her family into a 900 sq ft condo and has zero regrets. Will take five pairs of pants to the tailor in a single trip.

142. The simple exercise that helped 22 working moms believe in their goals04 Jun 202600:33:27

🥞🥂JOIN THE BREAKFAST CLUB MEMBERSHIP: https://luma.com/allfiguredout

Andrea takes you behind the scenes of her birthday Breakfast Club event in West Vancouver — 22 women, a DJ, mimosas, and a surprisingly powerful exercise. She walks you through the timeline + vision board activity she's been using with 1:1 coaching clients for years, and now finally brought to a group setting. It’s a way to make your big dreams feel real, grounded, actually achievable…and pretty.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro

  • (02:12) What I'm pondering: Substack — is it replacing social media?

  • (09:50) What I'm loving: Chicken Caesar wraps - a reinvention (something like this)

  • (12:25) What I'm wearing: The H&M cotton tank that is NOT a racerback

  • (14:32) The Breakfast Club May 28th recap — 22 women, DJ, mimosas, and birthday vibes in West Van

  • (17:18) Why working moms need to zoom out and plan with a bigger timeline in mind

  • (22:17) The origin story: how the timeline exercise was born in a VIP coaching day

  • (26:38) How to do the timeline exercise yourself — step by step

  • (28:04) Adding the vision board layer and why the combo is the magic

  • (30:08) Why a vision without context won't work (and what the research says)

  • (32:00) Why summer is the BEST time of year to do this exercise

KEY TAKEAWAY

A vision board without context is just wishful thinking. When you marry your big dreams with a concrete timeline — your kids' milestones, your age, your partner's retirement — your brain actually believes it's possible. And that belief is exactly what makes it happen.

141. The confidence nobody talks about: what year 35 taught me21 May 202600:30:51

The day before her 36th birthday, Andrea hits record alone and gets honest about the year that quietly changed everything. She made less money in coaching than she has in years — and has never felt more sure of herself. In this episode, she reflects on the four questions she was unknowingly working through all year, what happened in a somatic therapy session the day before turning 36, and why she's done keeping her confidence private. This one is for anyone who's been building something that doesn't make sense on paper yet, and doing it in that quiet, certain way that nobody talks about enough.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro

  • (00:30) Back on the mic after a travel season

  • (01:43) The Breakfast Club: what it is and why it exists

  • (03:15) Making less money and feeling the most certain she ever has

  • (04:33) Why confidence has been sold to us all wrong

  • (07:25) The four questions she was unknowingly asking herself all year

  • (14:41) Meeting her therapist in person for the first time

  • (15:40) The realization: confidence doesn't have to be private

  • (17:37) Following the breadcrumbs

  • (23:44) Celebrating 140 episodes, top 3% worldwide, and 50+ experts

138. You're not a bad mom, you're just a people pleaser — Libby Ward30 Apr 202600:46:26

🚨 1:1 STRATEGY SESSIONS ARE NOW OPEN.

Book yours → https://calendly.com/andreabarrcoaching/strategy-session

Libby Ward has been known as "The Honest Mom" since 2020, when she joined TikTok on a whim and started sharing about the realities of motherhood thinking no one would find her. To her surprise, over two million women were waiting for exactly that. Now she's a writer, speaker, mental health advocate, and the author of Honest Motherhood: On Losing My Mind and Finding Myself. In this episode, you’ll hear Andrea and Libby – two Canadian women who connected at the Mom 2.0 Summit in Austin, TX – having a very honest conversation about what’s not said enough about motherhood.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro

  • (01:43) Inside "the writing pit" — why the book took two years instead of one

  • (04:05) How the title Honest Motherhood came together

  • (06:26) Signing the book deal in 2023 with imposter syndrome on her shoulder

  • (11:43) What Libby would change about early motherhood

  • (13:32) The cost of people-pleasing

  • (21:09) How to work with shame

  • (23:39) Mom guilt vs. grief for parents

  • (35:40) The book launch party

  • (37:18) Guilt around joy — why Libby spent years stopping herself from feeling proud or excited

  • (40:55) Rapid fire questions

  • (42:10) What Libby is still trying figuring out.

Alexandra Perel-Winkler is very proud of her MD title, she went to Columbia and worked hard for it, but she still decided to walk away from her prestigious research career to become a soul-centered coach and medicine woman. She’s the founder of The Mystic Medicine, where she explores what it looks like to bridge the gap between science and spirit. 135. The 1 dinner table mistake that makes picky eating worse — with Soleina Karamali07 Apr 202600:53:34

TRIGGER WARNING: Eating disorders mentioned in the episode.

Picture this: dinner time and you’re already dreading sitting at the dinner table, because you know you’re going to be stressed about your kid not eating enough protein, or being picky about what they want, even though they probably ate that chicken nugget 2 days ago, and loved it, but today is another struggle. Today, I’m sitting down with Soleina Karamali, a registered dietician, founder of Every Eater, and a mom of two, and she is here to completely reframe how we think about feeding our kids.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro

  • (01:47) What it was like working in pediatric feeding before and after becoming a parent

  • (05:14) Soleina's path to becoming a dietician: food, healthcare, and a mom who owned a café

  • (06:48) Soleina’s relationship with food

  • (07:38) Feeding your kids holds up a mirror to your own relationship with food

  • (08:54) Starting solids with her first son: the humbling reality vs. the expert expectations

  • (10:53) Why toddlers reject vegetables: the science of taste buds, neophobia, and independence

  • (14:03) The Canadian Food Guide: what it's actually for (and why it's not a kids' tool)

  • (15:17) Why your child biologically needs carbs as their main fuel source

  • (19:48) Diet culture at the kids' table: protein pressure, macronutrient fads, and what to stop worrying about

  • (23:54) Snacks as mini meals: how grazing is sabotaging dinner and what to do instead

  • (27:42) Hemp seeds, iron, and the little shaker trick that gets more nutrients in without the battle

  • (30:10) The dinner table as connection

  • (31:34) Why "remaining unbothered" is your superpower

  • (37:12) Baby-led weaning vs. purées: what Soleina actually recommends

  • (39:05) Responsive feeding and Soleina’s son taught her

  • (41:27) The milk conversation: cow's milk, plant-based options

  • (46:46) The peak bone-building years

  • (47:49) TW: Eating disorders mentioned

  • (48:38) The Division of Responsibility framework: how to raise kids with a healthy relationship with food for life

  • (51:00) Good vs. bad food: food doesn’t have a moral value

  • (52:51) Where to find Soleina

KEY TAKEAWAY

Sitting at the dinner table should be about connection, not intake. Your job as a parent is to decide what, when, and where food is served. Your child's job is to decide if and how much they eat. By trusting that division, you preserve the one thing that matters most: their lifelong relationship with food.

About Soleina Karamali

Soleina Karamali is a registered dietician and the founder of Every Eater, a feeding therapy practice serving families across British Columbia. With nearly a decade as a pediatric dietician at BC Children's Hospital — most of it in complex feeding care — Soleina brings serious clinical expertise to the work. She's also a published researcher and a mom of two (one adventurous eater, one very particular one), which means she gets it from both sides of the table. Her approach is science-backed, humor-forward, and built around the belief that feeding your child shouldn't feel overwhelming.

134. 7 things that finally made family vacation feel like actual rest31 Mar 202600:20:47

We just got back from two and a half weeks in Florida, and I'm recording this while it's still fresh — cold from the plane and all. This episode is a behind-the-scenes look at what actually made this family vacation feel like rest: the prep hacks that kept Scotty and me from arriving at the airport annoyed at each other, the Instacart move that meant zero store runs for 10 days, and the alternating mornings method that gave us each seven solo mornings over the trip. Tune in, and have a family vacation that you don’t need a vacation from.

In this episode, we cover:

  • (00:00) Intro

  • (01:09) The two ways people listen to podcasts right now

  • (03:08) The backstory of our two and a half week vacation

  • (05:37) What pre-vacation prep looked like before kids vs. after

  • (07:38) The staging area hack that eliminates pre-trip chaos

  • (09:48) Meal prepping the week before so your fridge isn't a disaster when you leave

  • (10:41) The kids-sleeping-in-their-clothes trick

  • (11:28) Scotty's role: laundry deadlines and division of labour

  • (11:53) The work prep: Why Andrea didn't pressure herself to unplug — and why that worked

  • (12:39) How to not set foot in a store in 10 days

  • (14:14) The alternating mornings and mini-vacations

  • (16:16) What my mini-vacations looked like

  • (18:15) Planning dinner nights out vs. cooking in

  • (19:00) The self-care day back home and why it changes everything

KEY TAKEAWAY

Family vacation doesn't have to feel like a second job. With a bit of intentional prep before you go and a simple alternating rhythm with your partner while you're there, you can actually come back feeling restored — not like you need another vacation to recover from your vacation.

    131. How a former teacher built two businesses from scratch, and what she'd do differently - Shannon Pruitt17 Mar 202600:58:07

Shannon Pruitt built not one but two businesses from scratch — the first while teaching full-time, the second with a six-month-old in her lap. After nearly selling her wedding planning business for six figures, she found herself at a kitchen table with her husband, a newborn, and a blank slate. And that was how Sunday Muse was born, a brand strategy and design studio that fits her lifestyle, and that she runs roughly three hours a day around motherhood.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (05:51) Who is Shannon Pruitt? Brand strategist, creative director, mom of an almost 5-year-old, wife, and woman trying to do all the things without burning out

    • (07:56) Shannon's origin story: teaching full-time while building a wedding planning business

    • (10:13) The business grew fast, and so did her life

    • (11:51) The moment Shannon decided to sell, and how COVID derailed everything

    • (13:36) Closing the wedding business four months postpartum and starting over

    • (14:00) The kitchen table conversation with her husband that sparked Sunday Muse

    • (17:40) The financial reality of starting a business with a newborn at home

    • (21:35) Working in 3-hour windows — and becoming very, very efficient

    • (23:38) The guilt of loving your work too much (and Shannon's voice note trick)

    • (24:14) Why letting your kid watch you build something matters

    • (26:39) Personal brand 101: before you post a single thing, ask yourself why

    • (29:51) The difference between building a personal brand internally vs. monetizing one

    • (33:17) The case study: the corporate SaaS director who wants out in two years

    • (38:48) How algorithms vs. content resonance affect what's actually working

    • (39:47) Where to start when you have a dream but no direction

    • (42:12) Why you don't need a logo to get your first client (from a brand designer, no less)

    • (45:42) How the words you say — out loud and in writing — shape your entire brand

    • (48:10) Andrea's moment of clarity: stop calling yourself chaotic

    • (50:09) The StoryBrand principle: you are not the hero, your client is

    • (51:02) Shannon's tagline: "Every brand has a muse. Around here, that's you."

    • (52:31) What's next for Sunday Muse — a brand recalibration for 2026

    • (57:00) What Shannon is still figuring out

    KEY TAKEAWAY

Your personal brand is about being clear on your message, knowing who you're actually serving, and having the courage to just start before everything is figured out.

    About Shannon Pruitt

Shannon Pruitt is a brand strategist and creative director based in South Carolina, and the founder of Sunday Muse. 129. The 15-minute method that carried one mom through the unthinkable - Michelle Hooey10 Mar 202600:58:52

Have you ever wondered what it would take to go from burned-out corporate climber to grounded, present mom — not because life got easier, but because you finally learned to regulate yourself through the hard stuff?

In this episode, I sit down with Michelle Hooey, life coach and author of The Goldie Effect, who shares how her signature 15-Minute Rewrite method was born in the most unlikely place: a hospital room. Michelle opens up about her daughter Goldie, navigating life with a child with "special rights" (we're making the switch to this term and we're not looking back!), and how nervous system regulation for parents isn't just a personal practice — it's what holds your marriage, your identity, and your sanity together when everything is on the line.

If you've ever felt like you have nothing left to give, tune in!

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (01:15) Who was Michelle Hooey before?

    • (03:25) Five pregnancy losses and the invisible toll on her body and marriage

    • (04:33) How Frankie's celiac diagnosis accidentally uncovered Michelle's own — and led to Goldie

    • (07:19) Goldie's emergency birth at 33 weeks

    • (11:20) Seizures, five months in the NICU, and learning to survive in uncertainty

    • (17:20) How Michelle started protecting her nervous system in 15-minute pockets of time

    • (18:36) Living without a diagnosis: navigating systems, insurance, and the world with a medically complex child

    • (26:00) The "special rights" movement — and why it needs to come to Canada

    • (28:39) The 15-Minute Rewrite explained: regulate, reflect, reclaim

    • (37:39) How their marriage survived — couples therapy, staggered breakdowns, and hard conversations

    • (43:46) The resentment that came to a head

    • (53:10) The Goldie Effect: Michelle's memoir-meets-self-help book, out March 6th, 2026

    • (55:52)  How can people who don't have family members or children with special rights can be advocate

    • (57:38) What Michelle is still trying to figure out

    KEY TAKEAWAY

You don't need a dramatic life overhaul to regulate your nervous system, you only need 15 intentional minutes and the willingness to ask yourself what you actually need.

    About Michelle Hooey

Michelle Hooey is a bestselling author, speaker, and guide for women navigating real-life change. After years in corporate leadership, her life shifted with the birth of her second daughter, Goldie, who was born with complex medical needs. What followed wasn’t a reinvention. It was a reckoning with capacity, identity, grief, and what it means to stay present when life no longer follows the plan. Out of that season came The Goldie Effect and the 15-Minute Rewrite, grounded ways of turning lived experience into clarity, strength, and forward movement without burning yourself out.

    • (26:59) "Couples therapy with your body" — learning to listen before your body starts screaming

    • (40:15) The flare-up box strategy: writing a plan when you're well so your autopilot has somewhere better to go

    • (42:10) Displacement number three, building a home on five acres during COVID, and natural horsemanship as unexpected therapy

    • (50:23) Becoming a certified holistic nurse coach — what that actually means and who it's for

    • (52:32) Pain reprocessing therapy: the evidence-based approach that's helped patients go completely pain-free

    • (01:00:29) Pronoia — the opposite of paranoia, and Julia's thesis for getting through every hard thing

    • (01:03:26) How to find a pain clinic or pain specialist near you (Canada, US, UK, and beyond)

A burnout survivor herself, Erika has led in some of the most demanding, male-dominated environments out there — the U.S. Air Force, the chemical industry, and corporate sales — so she knows firsthand what it costs to lead through performance rather than presence.

Certified in Conscious Connected Breathwork and grounded in nervous system science, Erika helps women stop white-knuckling their careers and start leading from regulation, clarity, and grounded authority — especially during the big transitions: role shifts, rising visibility, and the quiet realization that you've outgrown your current chapter. Her work isn't therapy or leadership theory — it's the internal leadership system most high-achieving women were never given, and desperately needed.

    126. Why your "random" life choices are secretly connected — Tasneem Damji26 Feb 202601:14:53

What if the "wrong" turns, the detours, and the jobs that made zero sense were actually building something extraordinary all along? Tasneem Damji — educator, career coach for students, and mother of two — unpacks a nonlinear career path that spans continents, cultures, and decades. All of us at some point have looked at our lives and thought how does any of this connect?, this conversation covers that and how everything ends up being a full circle moment.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro
    • (01:30) Tasneem and the two very different stages of motherhood she's navigating
    • (06:23) Failing a science degree she never wanted and what it took to finally change course

    • (09:48) Moving to Tajikistan with no plan and accidentally discovering her life's work

    • (17:08) Leaving a toxic job and saying yes to a workshop she had no idea how to run

    • (21:47) Sponsor: Tasneem Damji

    • (25:27) Why everything she did that "made no sense" became her superpower in the job market

    • (37:05) Moving back to Canada and rebuilding her career

    • (45:42) Tasneem’s work with high school students — and why she never tells them what to do

    • (58:33) What parents of young kids can do right now to raise children who know themselves

    • (1:10:23) What is Tasneem figuring out and her big dreams

    KEY TAKEAWAY

You can't plan your future — and that's actually the best news you'll hear all day. What you can do is plan your next step with intention, follow your interests, and trust that the through line will reveal itself later. As Tasneem says, the question isn't what do you want to be? — it's who are you becoming?

    About Tasneem Damji

Tasneem Damji is a college and career clarity coach who helps young people connect the dots between who they are and where they’re going.

But her path here wasn’t linear. From navigating uncertainty in her own life to pivoting careers and raising two children eight and a half years apart, Tasneem knows firsthand that growth rarely follows a straight line. It unfolds through courage, discomfort, and the willingness to step outside your comfort zone — again and again. Today, she works with teens and families to move from overwhelm to clarity, helping young people uncover their strengths, tell their stories with confidence, and make thoughtful decisions about their future. Her work goes far beyond applications and resumes; it’s about building lifelong self-trust.

At the heart of everything she does is one belief: nothing in your life is wasted. Every twist, every detour, every doubt is part of the bigger picture. Tasneem is a mother of two and believes that when we raise reflective, compassionate, and resilient young people, we change not just their future — but ours too

    124. 4 vacation myths that are keeping working parents burned out - Jennica Day19 Feb 202601:07:05

GET JENNICA DAY’S BOOK → You Need a (Better) Vacation https://amzn.to/3ZMe6cG

How many times have you caught yourself saying "I need a vacation from my vacation"? That's probably because you're vacationing wrong, and Jennica Day is here to debunk some vacationing myths that genuinely blew my mind.

Jennica is a vacation expert, author, former international teacher, and mom of three boys (who she is fully qualified to wrestle).

In this episode, she breaks down the science of rest, reframes what vacation actually means, and gives us a surprisingly simple framework that will change how you think about your time off, for good.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (01:53) From varsity wrestler to mom of three boys — Jennica's origin story

    • (07:38)  Permanent vacation that led to living in Cancun

    • (16:17) The 3 things that actually make a vacation restful: relax, detach, and control

    • (23:37) Why longer vacations aren't actually better

    • (27:40) Pre-vacation syndrome (PVS) and how to avoid burning out before you even leave

    • (38:20) Adventures vs. vacations — the distinction that will change your life as a parent

    • (42:31)  The 4-hour break rule and micro-vacations

    • (57:57) 4 vacation myths debunked

    • (01:05:20) What Jennica is still trying to figure out

    KEY TAKEAWAY

You don't need more time off, what you need is to vacation better. A 2-day vacation done right gives you the same health and wellness benefits as a 17-day one (and science is proving this!). The goal isn't to squeeze every last minute out of a trip; it's to actually rest, detach, and do what you want. And if you're a parent? Stop expecting adventures with your kids to fill your rest tank. They won't. Schedule your micro vacations like your sanity depends on it — because it kind of does.

    About Jennica Day

Jennica Day is a vacation expert, author, and advocate for intentional rest and recovery. After experiencing burnout while living and working in Cancun, she dedicated herself to understanding the science of vacationing and work recovery. Her research and personal experimentation led her to develop the Vacation Hero Method, a proven strategy that promotes proper rest, prevents burnout, and enhances productivity. Author of the book You Need a (Better) Vacation, where she share evidence-based strategies to help individuals and organizations optimize time off for improved well-being, performance, and happiness.

    123. What happens when you refuse to take "wait and see" for an answer - Nikki Holekamp17 Feb 202600:58:19

Nikki Holekamp is a testament to resilience, creativity and advocacy. She is a trained pediatric occupational therapist, who had to use her skills, her voice and her written words to advocate for her son, Asher. In this conversation with Nikki, she shares about her life parenting a child with medical needs, how she’s advocating for him and teaching other kids, as well as her own daughter, that life can look different for others, trusting your intuition when doctors say “wait and see” and finding healing through storytelling.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (04:40) Life before kids: Nikki's career as a pediatric OT and early motherhood

    • (09:27) Asher's birth and the first signs something was different

    • (13:51) The early months of Asher

    • (16:49) Getting a second opinion that changed the trajectory

    • (19:28) Navigating the Canadian vs. US medical systems

    • (28:13) Standing up to doctors and trusting your parental intuition

    • (38:39) Life with Asher now: wheelchairs, preschool, and letting go of expectations

    • (49:03) Ways to be an ally for children like Asher

    • (51:46) Balancing two children with different needs

    • (56:20) What Nikki is still trying to figure out

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • When medical professionals are telling you to “wait and see”, but your intuition is screaming that something is wrong, listen to yourself.

    • You’re allowed to have a second opinion, and sometimes they’re essential, because it's not about stepping on anyone's toes; it's about protecting your child’s health and your own

    • Writing and storytelling can be medicine. The processing through writing became healing, and the connections with other families navigating similar challenges became lifelines. Sharing your story—however you choose to do it—creates community and helps you process what you're living through.

    About Nikki Holekamp

Nikki is a trained pediatric occupational therapist turned passionate parent advocate who has learned the power of using her voice to create meaningful impact. Through storytelling and lived experience, she’s discovered how words can shift perspectives and make space for change. She blends creativity with purpose. Writing became her way of sharing stories, but it has evolved into a way of helping others see through a new lens.

Connection is at the heart of who she is. As a projector in Human Design, Nikki has a gift for seeing the bigger picture and lifting others up with insight and intention. Her mission is to help moms recognize that they hold more capacity than they often believe. She reminds women that while hard things will happen, grace, growth, and profound lessons can emerge from those seasons. Nikki inspires others to dream bigger, live with purpose, and create a life they feel deeply proud of.

    122. Rest isn't just a nap – The Rest Revolution with Heather Boersma12 Feb 202600:56:21

The REST Revolution thesis is that rest is not an activity, it's an approach to life that's rooted in worthiness. So rest isn't about doing less, it's about believing you're worthy regardless of what you accomplish.

Coach and author Heather Boersma shares her journey from burnt out motivational speaker to discovering that rest is a foundational agreement with your own worthiness.

After experiencing panic attacks that forced her to step back from everything, Heather rebuilt her life around the understanding that her value isn't tied to her to-do list. This conversation dives into the REST framework (mindset, emotions, nervous system), why motherhood often makes the hustle unsustainable, and the simple breathing technique that can regulate your nervous system in 90 seconds.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (06:09) From a random stage in Australia to touring as a motivational speaker

    • (13:35) The first panic attack on an airplane—what it felt like and what it revealed

    • (18:07) Genetic testing, grief, and the anxiety spiral that followed

    • (21:54) Why motherhood makes the hustle stop working

    • (31:48) Why we resist feeling our emotions and how it steals our rest

    • (37:03) Building the belief "I'm worthy" one thought at a time for 63 days

    • (39:41) The basketball analogy: slowing down to grow

    • (44:40) Microdosing rest

    • (48:39) The three pillars of rest and creating schedules that align with your values

    • (52:46) What Heather is still figuring out: integrating all parts of herself

Check out episode 103, a similar episode, with Joanna Brewster → Spotify, Apple or YouTube

    KEY TAKEAWAY

Rest isn't an activity you add to your calendar—it's the foundational belief that you're worthy exactly as you are, without needing to prove, perform, or produce anything. When you live FROM worthiness instead of FOR worthiness, you can still have a full life and big goals, but without the frantic energy that leads to burnout. The shift happens one thought at a time: spend 63 days practicing "I'm worthy" (or "It's possible I'm worthy"), and your brain will build a new neural pathway that becomes your default setting. This is the rest that actually restores.

    About Heather Boersma

Heather Boersma is a speaker, author, and certified life and business coach who helps ambitious women create sustainable success without burnout. Drawing on over 20 years of speaking experience and her neuroscience-based coaching approach, Heather supports female entrepreneurs in finding work-life flow and building emotionally healthy businesses.

She is currently completing her Master of Counselling Psychology, further integrating evidence-based strategies with her coaching practice. Heather’s passion is helping women reclaim rest, regulate their nervous systems, and redefine success on their own terms. The Rest Revolution is her third book, following two earlier titles that have inspired readers across Canada, the US, and beyond. She lives in Vancouver, Canada, with her husband and three children.

    121. 2 years into her human rights fight: What no one tells you - Beth Wanner10 Feb 202601:03:40

Beth Warner returns to share what the past year has looked like fighting pregnancy discrimination, building Mother Cover, and refusing to stay silent. She opens up about the human toll of a human rights case that could take 6+ years, why Europe's approach to NDAs needs to come to North America, and how she's channeling her experience into protecting other parents' jobs through workforce planning that actually works.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (04:37) What keeps her going when everyone says "just move on"

    • (08:29) Life update: 2 years into a human rights case with years still ahead

    • (11:35) What needs to change: Why Canada should follow Europe's lead on NDAs

    • (13:17) Signing away your voice vs. fighting back

    • (16:55) Why the system isn't built for humans

    • (22:33) How she stays in the fight (and why Mother Cover fuels her now)

    • (26:36) What success looks like: Reaching the middle, not the extremes

    • (28:36) Mother Cover: Parental leave coverage done right

    • (32:13) Why workforce planning needs an update

    • (39:06) What Mother Cover actually does (and why it's not recruiting)

    • (42:13) Fractional leaves: Why senior professionals work better than junior backfills

    • (55:20) What's next: More success stories, less legal drama

    • (58:27) Beth’s favorite Mother Cover story: Marketing strategy meets motherhood support

    • (01:00:12) Motherhood with a 2-year-old while building a company

    • (01:01:24) What she's still figuring out: Teaching Ruby that work isn't just paying for diapers

    KEY TAKEAWAY

Policy alone won't change corporate culture. Until companies plan for parental leaves the way they plan for seasonal staffing or economic shifts, parents will continue choosing between their careers and their families—or worse, losing both. The solution is treating temporary leave as the predictable workforce reality it's always been.

Beth has 15 years of experience as an executive in the tech space, where she saw firsthand how gaps in leave coverage create unnecessary risk for both organizations and employees. Even with policies in place, the operational reality often falls short.

Beth founded Mother Cover to give individuals the ability to comfortably pause work when they need to, while providing companies with experienced support until their team member returns. Mother Cover offers the long overdue solution to a common challenge that’s been in desperate need of a new approach.

    119. Your body knows what your brain keeps ignoring with somatic coach Fiona Walsh29 Jan 202601:03:10

If you feel like you’re lost in a life that looks amazing from the outside, crushing it on paper, but inside, it still feels… off?

Andrea sits down with Fiona Walsh, somatic coach, who helps high-achieving parents recalibrate their lives by blending neuroscience-based mindset tools with somatic practices. Fiona shares her own rock-bottom moment during COVID—three kids, a thriving corporate career, and zero sense of who she was anymore—and the breathwork experience in Tulum that cracked her wide open.

This isn't about positive affirmations, a wish, and a prayer… but rather getting you to realize that you're overwhelmed because you're still running on old wiring that no longer fits who you've become as a parent.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (03:29) Why most working parents are running on patterns that no longer fit

    • (08:15) Fiona's burnout moment: lost in a busy, full life

    • (11:39) The Tulum retreat that changed everything

    • (14:10) What somatic coaching actually is (and why your body holds the answers)

    • (26:42) How to release protective patterns without just "thinking" your way out

    • (38:48) The truth about perfectionism and people-pleasing as survival strategies

    • (45:17) "Finding your purpose" is about remembering who you are

    • (55:39) Creating intimacy with yourself (without adding another to-do)

    • (57:53) What Fiona is still figuring out

    KEY TAKEAWAY

Identity recalibration is your real power move when your body is telling you that who you were before kids no longer matches who you need to be now.

    118. Stop waiting for the perfect moment: how to create your own luck with Emily Shimwell22 Jan 202601:13:15

Emily wakes up her kids by asking them, "Who's going to have the best day EVER?!", and that's how you stay ready for magic, every single day. In this episode, Emily shares how she sold out her 110-person event after weeks of hardly selling any (and being on the hook for 10s of thousands of dollars), why she never leaves the house without feeling put together (and how it makes her a better mom), and the power of living in anticipation.

From spontaneous two-week road trips to teaching her kids that mom is more than just "mom," Emily's approach to life, business, and parenthood will make you want to wear your favorite dress on a Tuesday and say yes to opportunities before you're "ready."

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (02:34) How Emily attracts magic by expecting it and being ready

    • (06:50) Putting your shoot-your-shot message out there despite fear

    • (11:27) The real story behind selling Feast: financial facts, breaking point, and door-to-door sales

    • (22:10) Why Emily is obsessed with dress codes (and what they really mean)

    • (26:24) The "wear the damn dress" philosophy and feeling good as a mom

    • (32:22) The spontaneous two-and-a-half-week Oregon road trip

    • (37:46) What makes someone truly attractive as a human being

    • (48:04) Why Emily feels sexier after becoming a mom

    • (52:35) How to handle people who feel triggered by your confidence

    • (56:00) Living in anticipation and romanticizing your own life

    • (1:00:00) The psychology of investment: why price point matters

    • (1:12:00) What Emily is still figuring out: monetizing long table dinners for the long haul

    KEY TAKEAWAY

As a mom, you're becoming a more powerful version of yourself. When you show up feeling good (however that looks for you), you're teaching your kids that you're not just Mom, you're a woman. And they need to see that.

    About Emily Shimwell

Emily’s why is simple: to remind you why we’re here, to get us out from behind our screens, and back into real life, to make women feel confident, capable, and alive.

Yorkshire-born storyteller, experience designer, mom of two small humans; Jack Wilder and Wilf Parker, now rooted in Squamish, BC. Emily’s a night owl and an early bird, and her coffee order is never predictable. Gathering is in her bones. Her door is always open, the kettle is always on, and she’ll happily run down the street just to compliment you. She creates spaces where people feel safe, alive, and deeply connected, which is the heartbeat of everything she does.

To Emily, the ultimate symbol of connection is the dinner table. That’s why she founded Dine Wilder: curated dinner retreats for women craving more. More depth. More meaning. More real connection. She doesn’t just make things look beautiful. She crafts moments that stay with you long after the last plate is cleared.

Work-life balance is all about getting your psychological needs met, not just about time management. Professor, researcher, and expert in employee well-being, Lieke ten Brummelhuis shares why "doing it all" is a myth, how to recover from workaholism as a parent, and the three needs that actually determine your happiness. Plus: research-backed insights on why women help more at work and home, and how to prevent resentment from building up with your partner.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (33:20) The real question: Are you happy? Not, are you balanced?

    • (36:10) The 3 psychological needs: autonomy, competence, and belonging

    • (40:25) How to audit where your needs are being met across life domains

    • (45:50) Communication with your partner without letting resentment pile up

    • (55:40) What Lieke is still figuring out

    116. Longevity doctor: Why busy moms are under-fueling & how to fix it - Dr. Valerie Hertzog08 Jan 202600:56:51

    Move over Peter Attia.

I know you’re eating sandwich crusts for breakfast and calling it a meal, because I’m a busy parent and I’ve done that! You’re probably skipping meals, forgetting to eat until 3 PM, or you’re finding yourself irritable and anxious mid-afternoon, so this episode is your wake-up call.

Dr. Valerie Hertzog returns to talk about chronic under-fueling. As a longevity-focused medical doctor and coach, Dr. Val breaks down why those "feast or famine" eating patterns are sabotaging your energy, hormones, and long-term health, and what to do about it. Dr. Val also breaks down metabolic health, the protein trend, perimenopause, muscle building, and simple strategies for actually fueling yourself properly without adding another complicated system to your plate.

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (02:46) Val's new role at a longevity clinic & what longevity actually means

    • (09:27) Metabolic health, hormones, and eating: the connections no one talks about

    KEY TAKEAWAY

Ever looked at your calendar and realized it's telling a story you didn't mean to write? This New Year episode is all about the uncomfortable truth: your schedule reveals what you actually value, not what you think you value.

Andrea shares the gut-punch moment when her husband sat her down after returning from maternity leave and said, "You're not happy—and I can feel it." That wake-up call led to a complete audit of how she was spending her time and energy.

In this episode, Andrea walks you through a 3-step process to identify the gap between how you're living and what you truly value, and more importantly, how to close that gap.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro

    • (00:34) Why your calendar already tells a story about you and your family

    • (03:06) The three steps to audit your life: time, desires, and action

    • (04:17) Two real examples: the hockey mom who's burnt out from driving kids everywhere, and Andrea's own return-to-work crisis

    • (08:20) Going deeper: what do you REALLY want? (It's not just "less driving")

    • (10:29) The action plan: quick wins vs. long-term changes

    • (12:43) How hard is this really? Rating your own transformation

    • (16:20) The power of enrolling others in your change

    • (18:16) Why this isn't a "set it and forget it" exercise

    • (19:50) Recalibration sessions: how Andrea and her husband check in weekly

    • (20:35) Everything comes down to living your values
