| Episode 42 - Lexie | 21 Sep 2025 | 01:03:57 | |
From a young age, Lexie was always a sensitive soul—an over-thinker who constantly felt misunderstood. As a child, the world often felt overwhelming, and as she grew older, those feelings only intensified. By the age of 16, she turned to alcohol and drugs—not for fun, but for relief. They gave her an escape, a way to silence the noise in her head and numb the pain of feeling different and socially awkward. In her twenties, Lexie began to notice a clear difference between herself and her peers when it came to drinking. While others could have a drink or two and stop, she felt an uncontrollable, compulsive need to keep going. Still, when the thought of having a problem crept in, she pushed it aside. Denial was easier. It felt safer to normalize the behavior than to face the terrifying possibility that she might be dealing with addiction. By November 2022, everything had come crashing down. Lexie had hit her breaking point. No longer making an effort to hide her drinking, she found herself completely dependent on alcohol—unable to function without it. Her life had become a performance played out behind a buzz, driven by fear of confronting what she had become. The irony was cruel and simple: she drank because she feared what her drinking had turned her into, and so, she drank even more. Her behavior, at times belligerent and reckless, began to put her life at risk. Things had spiraled far beyond her control. The only consistency left was the toxic pattern that ruled her existence. The idea of going just 24 hours without a drink felt impossible. The road to sobriety was excruciating and full of shame. Lexie didn’t attend meetings. She didn’t see a therapist. She did it on her own—a path she doesn’t recommend. The grief, guilt, and self-loathing were relentless. But even stronger than the pain was a deep, burning desire to live a life that was honest and joyful. That desire kept her going. Taking a hard, honest look at who she had become allowed Lexie to finally see the potential of who she could be. The old version of herself was stripped away, and in that space, something new and resilient began to grow. She learned to transform her inner dialogue from an enemy into a friend. What was once a source of self-sabotage became a voice of encouragement. By shifting her internal world, her external reality began to change in profound ways. It was proof of just how powerful the mind can be in reshaping a life. There was a time when Lexie couldn’t imagine ever feeling free. But now, by embracing every single aspect of herself—the parts that made her proud, and even the parts that made her cringe—she found the space to stay sober. And today, she can say with complete honesty: she feels better than she ever has in her entire life. | Episode 23 - Laura Starky | 12 May 2025 | 01:38:16
Laura is a trauma-informed somatic therapist and certified yoga and meditation teacher with over 25 years of experience – 19 of those specialising in mental health, trauma and substance misuse. After years of living in disconnection and using alcohol to numb anxiety, quiet the constant mind chatter and cope with the exhaustion of overworking and perfectionism, Laura chose a different path. Establishing sobriety was just the beginning, which then opened the door to a deeper journey of reconnection with body, mind and soul. Her approach blends somatic therapy, nervous system regulation, movement, mindfulness and ancient eastern philosophy guiding others to gently release old coping patterns and reconnect with their true nature. Laura’s work is rooted in the understanding that we’re not broken – we’ve just forgotten who we really are. That wholeness, that sense of being fully alive and at home in ourselves, is never lost. It’s just been buried under years of stress, survival and trying to keep it all together. Through reconnecting with the body, we remember. Not by fixing ourselves, but by slowing down, listening in and realising that what we’ve been searching for has been here all along. | Episode 49 - Beth | 07 Nov 2025 | 01:28:46
Beth began drinking as a teenager in the 1990s, using alcohol to ease the social anxiety she had felt for as long as she could remember. What started as a way to feel confident and connected quickly became a pattern that followed her into adulthood. After her mother died when she was 17, her drinking escalated, and by university she had become known as the party girl, hiding behind a confident exterior that masked deep insecurity. As the years went on, her relationship with alcohol shifted into what is often called grey-area drinking. She drank to manage loneliness, stress, and self-doubt, convincing herself it was normal. During lockdown, her drinking reached a point where she knew she needed to stop. Finding an online sober community changed everything, showing her that recovery could be built on honesty, connection, and shared experience rather than shame. A later diagnosis of ADHD helped her understand the impulsivity, emotional intensity, and constant search for stimulation that had fuelled her drinking. With this understanding came self-compassion and a new sense of purpose. Now over four years sober, Beth shares her story through her Click Sober platforms and volunteers within the sober community, helping women question their relationship with alcohol and find support. She is also the co-founder of The SOS Collective, a free online community for women. You can find Beth on instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/click_sober

Louisa was a nearly nightly bottle of wine drinker and had been since her 20's. In her day job, Louisa is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Hypnotherapist and so she was finding a real incongruence with the advice she was giving other people and yet struggling herself behind closed doors. In October 2022 Louisa couldn't ignore her desire to go sober any longer and began her sober journey. It wasn't a straightforward path though. Despite having all the tools she uses in her clinic with other people and habit change Louisa couldn't seem to get sobriety to stick. So she ended up stuck in a resetting loop for a couple of months and her mental health really suffered in that time. | Episode 48 - Kim | 31 Oct 2025 | 01:21:20
Kim began drinking around the age of 14. From the very start, she sensed that alcohol and she wouldn’t mix well. Still, she loved the way it made her feel—less awkward, more confident, and seemingly more comfortable in her own skin. Yet even early on, alcohol brought more chaos than comfort. Despite the warning signs, Kim kept drinking whenever the opportunity arose. Over time, blackouts became common, hangovers stretched into days, and she often woke up consumed by regret and anxiety. This pattern repeated for years. Deep down, Kim knew something wasn’t right, but she couldn’t imagine life without alcohol. Sobriety felt impossible, even unthinkable. Every so often, Kim would have what seemed like a “normal” drinking experience—one that convinced her she was in control. But she wasn’t. Each brief success only delayed the truth she didn’t want to face. Alcohol took nearly everything from her, more than once. Still, Kim was determined to manage it—to prove she could handle drinking like everyone else. She pushed past the pain, ignored the consequences, and pretended everything was fine. Eventually, things hit a breaking point. Kim decided to quit on her own, and for a few months, she managed to stay sober. But when summer arrived, she returned to drinking—and quickly learned what so many in recovery say is true: it always gets worse. The relapse nearly cost her everything again. That was the turning point. Kim walked through the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous, desperate but willing. There, surrounded by people who truly understood, she began to see that a life without alcohol was not only possible—it could be beautiful. With the support of her recovery community, she started rebuilding her life from the inside out. Today, Kim calls her sobriety the best decision she’s ever made. Each day, she continues to work on her recovery and self-discovery. Over the past year, she’s finally gotten to know herself without alcohol—and, for the first time in her life, she genuinely likes who she is. Kim once believed alcohol added to her life, but in reality, it was slowly stealing pieces of her soul. Sobriety gave her a second chance—one filled with peace, clarity, and purpose. Finding a sober community, both online and in person, has been life-changing. She encourages anyone questioning their relationship with alcohol or drugs to reach out, listen to others’ stories, and take that first brave step toward recovery. Kim’s journey is a reminder that healing is possible, recovery is powerful, and life truly begins when you stop running from yourself. | Episode 47 - Will Edwards | 24 Oct 2025 | 01:38:04
Will began drinking at a young age, using alcohol as a way to cope long before he had the tools to process life’s challenges. Even as he matured and became a father, he found that moderation never quite clicked — he didn’t always know when enough was enough. In 2021, after years of repeating the same patterns, Will began a personal journey of self-discovery and development. He introduced practices like cold water therapy and journaling, which helped him see the far-reaching effects of a night of drinking — not just physically, but emotionally and professionally too. One evening, after a particularly stressful day, he caught himself reaching for a beer out of need rather than choice. That moment of awareness changed everything. Will committed to one year of sobriety to learn healthier coping mechanisms. That one year has now become 1,400 days — and counting. Today, Will has built a life he no longer wants to escape from. He shares his story to encourage others to look honestly at their own relationship with alcohol and to realize that it doesn’t have to be a problem to be a problem.
