Have you recently taken a break from exercise because life happened and you got busy?
Breaks happen but the most important thing is getting back into the swing of consistent movement and making it a priority again.
There are 3 considerations when getting back into a routine to help avoid setting off a flare, injuring yourself, or increasing your pain levels. These three things are:
Increase frequency of rest
Shorten workouts
Consider full body moves

How much movement do you really need with osteoarthritis to find relief?
14 Feb 2023
00:15:31
Have you ever wondered how much movement you really need when it comes to finding arthritis pain relief and feeling stronger?
There are different goals based upon two things:
Your pain levels
Your current level of activity
When just starting out and/or with higher levels of pain, including 5-10 minutes of purposeful movement into your day can be incredibly helpful.
If you have a higher fitness level and/or your pain levels are lower, aiming for 3 workouts per week is a good goal to start with depending on the intensity of the workouts and how hard they feel for you.

You’ll hear each short story as well as her commentary on how to open the discussion up with your doctor/surgeon, who else to get an opinion from, and how to advocate for yourself.
Here are the 4 scenarios discussed:
Being told you are bone on bone
Advocating for PT first to avoid surgery
The “pain is in your head” conversation
“You have the knees of an 80 year old”

X-rays and MRIs do not decide surgery, what you need to know before you make a decision
One of the biggest misconceptions about osteoarthritis is that the x-ray or MRI of your joint tells the whole story about the pain you’re experiencing. Upwards of 75-80% of people have arthritic changes on an x-ray but do not experience frequent joint pain…
The image of your joint does not correlate with the intensity of pain you may be experiencing. There are other pieces to the puzzle that must be addressed and examined before deciding on a joint replacement.

SIMPLE steps to relieve jaw pain that no one tells you about with physical therapist Dr. Liana Sved
06 Dec 2022
00:22:01
According to the Journal of Rheumatology (Wolfe et al 2005), “jaw pain is present in about 19% of patients with RA and OA, and is primarily a marker for a general pain increase and symptom sensitivity problem” PMID: 16331775
I brought on today’s guest to talk about jaw pain, jaw arthritis, and any secondary pain associated with it because it is something that is rarely talked about.
Dr. Liana Sved is a physical therapist and myofascial therapist who specializes in helping people with jaw pain. Research has shown that jaw pain can be common with conditions such as osteoarthritis. Liana shares today:
Importance of your tongue in finding jaw pain relief
Simple exercises you can do to help your jaw pain
Myths and misconceptions around jaw pain
Who are the best practitioners to seek out for jaw pain

Add THIS to your exercise routine to maximize arthritis pain relief
Balance is incredibly important when it comes to not only feeling more confident on uneven surfaces but also when searching for osteoarthritis pain relief. Oftentimes I find balance is left out from exercise routines. Even if it is included, just simply being able to stand on one leg may not be enough to unlock confidence while adventuring or to allow for significant pain relief. In this episode you’ll hear some balance examples as well as why it’s important to include in your daily routine.

One thing you MUST know with arthritis in ANY joint...
11 Apr 2024
00:18:13
Your entire body is connected.
The way each joint moves and how strong each is matters.
One of the biggest mistakes I see people making as a physical therapist is only focusing on the painful joint. For example, when dealing with knee pain- most people only do localized exercises for the knee- ignoring the rest of the body.
In order to be successful in pain relief, strength and mobility- you have to focus on the big picture. This episode discusses what you need to know and how to get started.

Food is so incredibly important when it comes to managing joint pain related to osteoarthritis. Menopause can actually trigger joint pain as well due to decreasing estrogen levels. It is so important to place priority not just on food but on exercise as well!

Where most people go wrong when searching for arthritis pain relief with Dr. Alyssa Kuhn, PT, DPT
04 Oct 2022
00:16:16
As a physical therapist and arthritis specialist, I know that finding pain relief from osteoarthritis is not easy. If you are feeling stuck or spinning your wheels without success with pain relief- I’m glad you’re here.
One of the biggest challenges I see in osteoarthritis care is actually understanding what causes your pain because this is the gateway to finding solutions. Pain can be triggered by inflammation but there are many things that contribute to inflammation.
Instead of searching for the best supplements, trying every pain relief cream out there, and even trying every exercise program- it’s so important to understand what is contributing to YOUR pain. This specific plan is mapped out inside the Arthritis Adventure Blueprint.
