| Dr Asad Raffi: The ADHD Myths That Are Ruining Your Life | 03 Mar 2026 | 01:03:32 | |
For decades, women with ADHD have been told they're "just anxious," "just depressed," or "just stressed." Meanwhile, their physical symptoms - heavy periods, migraines, gut issues, dizziness when standing - have been dismissed as separate problems. They're not. They're all connected. Dr. Asad Raffi has assessed thousands of ADHD women and discovered something revolutionary: ADHD is a brain-body condition. The female presentation doesn't even resemble what's in the diagnostic manuals. So how is a clinician using a checklist going to diagnose any woman? They can't. And they haven't. In this raw and honest conversation, Dr. Asad explains why 50%+ of women sitting in GP waiting rooms could actually have undiagnosed ADHD, why the medical system has failed women for so long, and what actually needs to change. We explore the micro-fractures of accumulated trauma, why ADHD can look like complex PTSD, the "whole heap of shit" happening beneath the surface that single-lens diagnosis misses, and the critical importance of understanding hormones, inflammation, and the brain-body connection. And in the most moving moment of the interview, when asked what he said to his teenage daughter when she got diagnosed with ADHD, his answer was simple: "Welcome to the club." This conversation will change how you see ADHD, your body, and yourself. IN THIS EPISODE: ✨ Why physical symptoms are the primary indicator of ADHD in women ✨ The connection between hormones, inflammation, and brain health ✨ Why women have been chronically misdiagnosed for decades ✨ ADHD vs complex PTSD - understanding micro-fractures and accumulated trauma ✨ Why looking at ADHD from a singular lens will always get it wrong ✨ The importance of community, connection, and reaching out ✨ What he told his daughter when she was diagnosed Dr. Asad Raffi is a leading consultant psychiatrist, founder of Sanctum Healthcare, and father of three girls. His mission was born from his daughter's ADHD diagnosis - and he's determined that no woman is left misunderstood.
| INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS & LIVING FREE: The Man Who Hitchhiked His Way Out of Mental Prison | 24 Feb 2026 | 00:57:16 | |
You know those thoughts that pop into your head? "What if I just opened this car door on the motorway?" Or "If I don't touch that lamppost in 10 seconds, someone I love will die." Adam Lind lived with intrusive thoughts so severe, he'd wake up every morning thinking "what's the point?" — until he discovered he wasn't his mind. And he proved it by hitchhiking across 26 countries with £5,000 and a backpack. This conversation goes deep: from OCD and health anxiety, to why external freedom (living on a narrowboat, travelling the world) means nothing if you're still trapped inside your head. Adam shares how he went from existential spiraling to creating a life of genuine human connection — and why your intrusive thoughts might actually be trying to protect you. If you've ever felt like your mind is holding you hostage, or you're chasing freedom in all the wrong places, this episode will completely shift your perspective. Until he hitchhiked across 26 countries and discovered something therapy couldn't teach him: You are not your mind. | S5 E23 - ADHD Untangled Rewind - ADHD and Hormones with Dr James Brown | 22 Sep 2025 | 01:10:01
In today's ADHD Rewind I'm re-Introducing our extraordinary guest, a figure I've eagerly awaited on this podcast since it began—a true hero in my eyes. Ladies and gentlemen, please join us in welcoming the remarkable Professor James Brown! Not only is Professor James Brown one of the esteemed hosts of the ADHD Adults podcast, but he also wears the hat of a charity owner and is the proud spouse of a previous ADHD Untangled guest, the incredible Mrs. ADHD. With over two decades of dedicated research into the intricate world of hormones, James is a true authority on the subject. Given some recent personal challenges I've faced and the shared struggles of our friends and clients, it was imperative that we tapped into his wealth of knowledge. Engaging in a conversation about hormones was genuinely enlightening, and James's passion for the topic was evident throughout our discussion. A profound revelation for me was discovering that hormones play a pivotal role in virtually every aspect of our lives. This episode offered me reassurance in understanding that the ebb and flow of emotions and experiences, whether throughout the month or our life journey, is perfectly normal. It's not merely us feeling like we're on an emotional rollercoaster; hormones are at the heart of this intricate process. I really hope that you enjoy this one and fall in love with the absolutely amazing Professor James Brown! | S5 E17 - Untangling ADHD & Why We Must Talk About Suicide with Kit Birks | 14 Jul 2025 | 00:57:04
What if the very thing you thought would end you became the reason you’re still here? This episode reminded me of the original why behind this podcast. ADHD Untangled was created to give hope. To empower. To prove that the very struggle that once made us feel broken can become our greatest strength. To reach the ones who are still in the middle of it — in the thick of addiction, shame, self-destruction — and remind them that it’s not too late. You are not too far gone. In this powerful conversation, I sit down with writer, activist and adventurer Kit Birks just days before she sets off to walk the entire length of Europe solo. Her mission? To raise awareness around suicide, ADHD and the stories we’re told to keep silent about. Kit shares her raw and honest story — from battling depression, eating disorders and addiction, to getting diagnosed with ADHD in recovery and finally realising she wasn’t broken, just misunderstood. We explore the link between dopamine and destruction, how masking and emotional pain lead us into addiction, and how movement, nature and meaning can help us come back home to ourselves. This one is deep, real and needed. 🧠 In this episode we cover:

| S5 E15 - Untangling ADHD & Masking: The Hidden Cost of Pretending to Be “Normal” | 30 Jun 2025 | 01:05:33 | |
Ever felt like you’ve spent your whole life pretending to be someone you’re not… without even realising it? This one’s for you. In today’s episode, we’re diving deep into the masks we wear – the people-pleaser, the overachiever, the chameleon, the ‘good girl’ or ‘good boy’ – all those roles we slip into without meaning to, just to feel safe, accepted, or "normal." But unmasking? That’s a whole other story. Together with Dr. Miguel (our go-to neuroscience and nervous system expert), we get real about the cost of masking, why unmasking isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing, and why it can feel so bloody exhausting trying to “just be yourself” when your nervous system doesn’t feel safe. We explore:
PLUS: a hilarious (and painfully relatable) game of ‘Guess That Mask’ involving marathon medals, thank-you cards, and a very mysterious peach 🍑 Whether you're just starting to unmask or you're deep in it, this episode is your reminder: there’s no perfect way to be real. You don’t owe anyone a performance – just your presence. Take an imperfect breath, let the dog off the leash, and come as you are. How many times have you been told to “calm down and take a breath” in the middle of an RSD meltdown? If only it were that simple… or could it be? This episode isn’t about some shiny new trend — it’s about breath. The one thing you carry with you every second of the day — and might just be the most powerful tool you’re not using. I’m joined by Jamie Clements, breathwork coach, founder of The Breath Space, and quite honestly, one of the most authentic voices in the wellness world right now. | S5 E10 - Tangled in ADHD: Food, Mood & A Dark Chocolate Addiction | A New Mini-Series With Dr. Miguel Mateas! | 26 May 2025 | 01:09:37
Hello Untanglers, Talking to myself is nothing new... but even I was starting to get bored of my own voice on the solo episodes 😂 And seeing as one of my words for the year is collaborate, I knew exactly who I wanted to rope in first… Enter: Dr. Miguel Mateas. Creative neuroscientist. We’ve built a brilliant connection — fuelled by deep chats, honest laughs, WhatsApp check-ins, and like all good friendships, we first connected over food… specifically, a shared love (okay, borderline addiction) with dark chocolate. And we’re kicking things off with: Food & Mood If your relationship with food is a bit, shall we say, tangled, you're in the right place. We’re not talking about those rigid diet rules that ADHD brains just laugh at. Instead, Dr. Miguel and I are getting into the real stuff: 🧠 Why We Eat How We Eat: Our own tales of bingeing, restricting and that fun cycle of "I'll just eat Doritos for dinner" Sound familiar? 🔬 The Science Bit (But Make it Make Sense!): Dr. Miguel explains the gut-brain connection, why our mood can go haywire after certain foods and what’s really going on. ❤️ No More Shame! We’re all about ditching the guilt. It’s about understanding your body, not fighting it. 🍫 That Dark Chocolate Obsession: Yep, we go there. 🌱 Finding Your Own Framework: Because "one size fits all" is a myth, especially for us. We talk about listening to your body and finding what actually works, even if it’s having tofu with sriracha for a week straight (Miguel, I’m looking at you!). 🤯 Meds & Munchies: Ever put on weight on your meds when everyone else loses their appetite? We’ve both been there! This isn’t about perfect eating; it’s about awareness, self-compassion and figuring out how to nourish ourselves - brain, gut and soul - without losing our minds. Dr. Miguel brings the science, I bring the chaos and together we’re untangling it all. 🎧 Tune in for our first ever episode! | S5 E8 – Untangling ADHD & Regret: When Rage Takes Over with 8x World Champion Liam Harrison | 12 May 2025 | 00:52:31
Ever been so emotionally dysregulated you’ve said something you didn’t mean — or worse, made an impulsive decision you instantly regretted? If you’ve got ADHD, then of course you have. We know the drill. But imagine that decision being broadcast live on TV… to the world. Well, that’s exactly what happened to today’s guest. Back by popular demand (and because I could chat to him for hours) — it’s round two with:
The legend himself — Liam Harrison — joins me for another raw and real chat about ADHD, setbacks and staying in the ring, both literally and metaphorically. We talk about the split-second decision to retire after a loss… and the crash that followed. Was it impulsivity? RSD? A fight-or-flight reaction wrapped in adrenaline? Probably all of the above. But what I love most is Liam’s honesty — the regret, the reflection, and the resilience to say: “Nah, I’m not done yet.” We untangled:
This episode is more than just a conversation about ADHD and sport. It’s about extreme behaviour. It’s about what happens when your whole identity is wrapped up in one thing… and that thing suddenly disappears. It’s about resilience, rage, and rewiring. And it’s about how just one person who gets it — a coach, a teacher, a partner — can change the entire direction of your life. Liam’s story isn’t just about fighting in the ring. It’s about fighting to stay grounded, regulated, and connected — even when the ADHD brain wants to burn it all down. Want to learn more from Liam? | S5 E5 – Tangled In…Quitting: Breaking Free From Shame & Embracing Your ADHD Brain | 21 Apr 2025 | 00:41:39
Do you have a graveyard of unfinished projects? A closet full of abandoned hobbies? If so, you're in the right place In this episode, we're untangling the idea of being a "professional quitter" especially within the ADHD community. Many of us carry a narrative of shame around quitting, impacting our confidence and future goals. But what if we could reframe quitting as a strength? Join me as I explore why those with ADHD often find quitting easy, delving into the role of dopamine, our interest-based nervous system and executive function challenges. I'll share my own experiences with quitting, from abandoned baby massage dolls to nine jobs in ten years… We'll unpack: 🧠 Why our dopamine-driven brains crave novelty and new experiences. 🧐 How overwhelm and executive function issues like goal prioritization contribute to quitting. 💔 The impact of societal views and shame on our self-esteem and confidence. ✨ How perfectionism and masking can lead us to quit even when we're on the path to success. 💡 And most importantly — how to shift our mindset, understand when to stick and when to quit, and embrace quitting as a tool for a more fulfilling life. I'll share coaching questions to help you determine if you're quitting out of fear or intuition, and we'll explore strategies like practicing quitting and building evidence that it's not always a bad thing! Let’s stop seeing quitting as a weakness and start recognising it as a unique strength. 🎧 Listen now! | Is 9-5 Why Your Career Feels Soul Destroying for Your ADHD Brain? Why Quitting Is Not for Losers With Dr Miguel | 15 Dec 2025 | 00:45:36
I’m yet to meet an ADHDer who isn’t deeply affected by meaningless work. When there’s no meaning, it can feel like trying to run on empty you’re pushing, pushing, pushing… and then wondering why you’re burnt out and blaming yourself for it. This week I am back with everyone’s favourite neuroscientist and mental health expert, Dr Miguel, to untangle ADHD in the workplace, purpose, meaning, job hopping, and why quitting is not a character flaw. Together we untangle: 🧠 Why 9-5 can feel genuinely soul destroying for an ADHD brain, from masking to boredom to open-plan overload ⏰ ADHD time, “BBC clock” culture, and why being ten seconds late can trigger a full body stress response 🌙 Chronotypes, delayed melatonin, and why so many ADHDers get a second wind later in the day 🔥 Hyperfocus productivity, burnout, and the truth about “inconsistency” when you are actually running on nervous system fumes 🧩 ADHD and autism together, how they can clash, how they can support each other, and what it can look like to build a work life with more space Why listen? If work has left you carrying that deep, sticky shame… this one’s for you. Maybe your CV looks like job hop after job hop, and you’ve been labelled a “jack of all trades” because you can’t seem to settle. Maybe you’ve started things, stopped things, restarted… and blamed yourself every time. Or you’re constantly caught up in workplace drama, politics, misunderstandings… and it always somehow ends with you feeling like the problem. Over time it’s so easy to start believing the story: I’m lazy. I’m inconsistent. I’m too much. I’m not built for adulthood. But this episode is here to pull that story apart. To de-shame the patterns. And to help you see what’s actually going on when an ADHD brain is trying to survive inside systems that don’t fit. Because you’re not broken. You just need a way of working that works with your brain… and feels meaningful to you. | S5 E4 - Untangling ADHD with Alex Partridge: The Truth Behind the Labels | 14 Apr 2025 | 01:11:39
Ever felt like your brain just can’t stop – or won’t stop? Ideas, overthinking, random thoughts and that constant inner monologue that never shuts up – some might call it the ADHD chatter. If you know, you know. And let’s be honest, it can leave you wondering if there’s something wrong with you. Well today's guest will tell you that you are not alone. And you are definitely not broken. In this episode, I sit down with Alex Partridge – founder of Unilad and host of the ADHD Chatter Podcast – for an honest conversation about what it’s really like living with ADHD. No pretending. Just the chaos, the truth and what it actually feels like. Alex doesn’t just talk the talk. From building viral empires to wrestling with the reality of an ADHD diagnosis later in life, he’s lived it. And now, he’s using his voice to shift the way we think about neurodiversity – one real conversation at a time. Here’s what we Untangle in this episode: 🧠 Object permanence – what it is, and how it messes with your day-to-day (and how to work with it) How undiagnosed ADHD showed up for him during a very public and extremely stressful legal battle worth millions – and why winning it didn’t bring the happiness he thought it would. 🌍 Why the world isn’t built for different thinkers – and why that needs to change This one’s for anyone who’s ever felt misunderstood, mislabelled or like they don’t quite fit the mould. Alex’s story is full of truth, courage, and VERY relatable! 🎧 Listen now Follow Alex on Instagram: @alex_partridge_100 Let’s get untangled and show the world what we’re made of 🧡🖤 ADHD COACHING IT’S TIME TO TURN YOUR ADHD STRUGGLES INTO STRENGTHS AND SHOW UP IN THE WAY YOU WERE ALWAYS MEANT TO!

| Is It Love Or Just Dopamine? ADHD, Hyperfocus And Real Connection With Dr Miguel | 08 Dec 2025 | 00:56:19 | |
You know that electricity at the start of something new… When you cannot stop thinking about them, texting them, replaying every message in your head, planning weekends away in your mind, and refreshing WhatsApp every three seconds?! Is that love, or just your ADHD brain chasing dopamine on loud? This week I am back with everyone’s favourite go-go dancing neuroscientist and mental health expert, Dr Miguel, to untangle ADHD, hyperfocus, love bombing, gut health and long-term love. Dr Miguel brings the science and eighteen years of lived experience in a relationship with a neurodivergent nervous system, and I bring the tangled ADHD heart. Together we untangle: 🧠 What hyperfocus actually is in the brain, how it feels in the body, and how to tell the difference between genuine connection and a dopamine high that will burn out fast. 💌 Why ADHDers often come on strong, what really sits behind it, and how intent, safety and reciprocity separate enthusiasm from love bombing. 💔 Why a small comment about a door left open can feel like a punch in the stomach, why divorce rates are higher in ADHD, and how shame and old stories pour petrol on small disagreements. 🍽 Food, gut health and RSD - how your gut bacteria, blood sugar and nervous system can make the difference between taking feedback in your stride or spiralling for hours. 💸 ADHD tax and looking selfish when you are not - and what has helped Miguel and his husband create more safety around money. Why listen? Because ADHD does not mean you are doomed in love. It means your nervous system needs different tools. This episode will help you understand what is biology, what is trauma, what is attachment, and what is actually your values. This is perfect if you are… 🧡 An ADHDer who feels “too much”, “too intense” or “too chaotic” in love 🙄 In a relationship with someone who has ADHD and you are tired of feeling like the responsible one 😞 Someone who keeps burning it all down when things get hard and wondering if you are the problem I want this episode to feel like a deep breath for your nervous system. You are not bad at love. You just have a brain and body that need a different rulebook, and there is real hope for connection that feels safe, grounded and still full of fire. | S4 E9 - Untangling ADHD and Life as an ADHD Yoga Teacher with Zephyr Wildman | 27 Jan 2025 | 00:44:57
"I eat meat, I drink wine and I love having sex with my husband… and yes I'm a yoga teacher"
I’m chatting with the incredible Zephyr Wildman—a yoga teacher who’s as authentic and inspiring as they come. Zephyr opens up about her ADHD, growing up in a hippie commune, and the deeply personal story of her first husband, a touring musician who struggled with addiction. | S4 E8 - Rewind episode: Untangling ADHD and Burnout, The Cost of Doing It All | 24 Dec 2024 | 00:09:25
Hey Untanglers! Raise your hand if you're burned out???? 🙋♀️ Yep, it’s that time of year again. As ADHDers, burnout isn’t exactly new to us—but let’s be honest, the end-of-year pressure can hit HARD. Social gatherings piling up, family expectations weighing us down, and that nagging feeling that we need to have everything wrapped up before the holidays? It’s a recipe for exhaustion. And when we’re running on empty, our ADHD impulsivity loves to take the wheel. But all jokes aside, because burnout isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s serious. It can take a real toll on our health and well-being. That’s why, this week, We are revisiting a powerful conversation with one of my personal mentors and ADHD coach trainers: Cathy Rashidian. Cathy is no ordinary coach—she’s a total powerhouse. With a laundry list of credentials, including PCC certification through the International Coach Federation (ICF), PAAC credentials, and advanced ADHD training from ADDCA, she’s the real deal. She’s also a lead trainer at ADDCA and the host of the Proudly ADHD podcast. But Cathy’s impact isn’t just about her professional accolades—it’s her life experience that makes her truly inspiring. In our chat, she opens up about living with ADHD, how her diagnosis reshaped her life, and the wake-up call that changed everything: being diagnosed with blood cancer at just 35. Here are a few gems she shared:
Cathy’s raw honesty, strength, and mission to help others show up as their authentic selves blew me away. Having her on the podcast was such a blessing, and I know you’re going to love this conversation as much as I did. So, what are you waiting for? | S4 E7 - Untangling ADHD and Hormones, PMDD, Menopause, Perimenopause with Adele Wimsett | 16 Dec 2024 | 00:47:15
Hey Untanglers! This week we are Untangling a REALLY important topic HORMONES & ADHD!!! A sentence I’m sick of hearing is, ‘You can’t blame everything on your hormones.’ The more I learn from experts like Dr Kampers, Professor James Brown, Nikola Sykes, and today’s incredible guest, Adele Wimsett, the more I realise hormones are responsible for EVERYTHING. If you have ADHD, they can exacerbate symptoms to the point of complete and utter despair. We are joined by the amazing and hugely passionate Adele Wimsett, a women's health practitioner specialising in hormones. Through her business, Harmonise You, Adele empowers people to balance their hormones through education, clinics, and one-to-one sessions. As a late-diagnosed ADHDer, Adele has a particular passion for supporting others with ADHD. She founded ADHDivers, a clinic designed specifically for women with ADHD, helping them understand how their hormones impact their traits. We will uncover the truth behind the connection between hormones and ADHD.
Adele describes ADHD in one word as ‘curiosity’, and today’s episode is definitely for those of us who are curious to learn more about hormones and their relationship with ADHD. | Is “ADHD” an Insult, Label Or Source Of Strength? with Wynford Dore | 01 Dec 2025 | 00:26:08
If you have ever watched your child come home shattered by another school day, sat in a meeting being told there is “nothing more we can do”, felt torn between hating the “ADHD” label and needing the support… then this episode is for you. This week, we’re joined by someone who has been around ADHD Untangled since the very beginning. A friend, a big thinker and a man who has poured his life into changing the story for neurodivergent kids and families: Wynford Dore. On paper, Wynford is the founder of Zing, the owner of private schools and someone who has spent millions researching the brain. But his story starts at home, with his daughter Susie. Susie was diagnosed as severely dyslexic around the age of nine. The message the family got was basically, this is just how it is. As she grew up, the struggle did not stay in the classroom. It crept into her confidence, her mental health and her sense of self. She became so depressed and hopeless that she tried to take her own life, more than once. Wynford reached the point many parents know too well. Watching his child suffer hurt more than anything else, and “nothing we can do” was not an acceptable answer. So he did what most people only dream of. He sold his successful business. He poured his time, energy and money into finding a different way to help kids like Susie. That work became the brain development programmes he runs today, helping children, adults and high performers all over the world reset how their brain works and rediscover confidence. Recently, Wynford lost Susie. After everything they went through and everything their story has changed for others, he now carries that grief as well. Yet he is still here, still doing this work, still fighting so fewer families have to go through what they did. And he believes, very strongly, that the word ADHD itself has become an insult. Not because there is anything wrong with the people who receive that label. But because of the shame and misunderstanding that have been attached to it. Together we untangle: 🧠 How labels like ADHD and dyslexia shape confidence, behaviour and self worth at school 🔁 What Wynford’s work shows about neuroplasticity and why the brain can change more than most of us were told 🗣 What to actually say when your child feels stupid, broken or left behind 🚪 How parents and teachers can respond when the system says “nothing more we can do”, and why that sentence is not the end of the road 🌱 Simple, real life ways to start rebuilding hope and meaning again, even after years of failed support or school trauma Wynford brings decades of experience in brain development and working with children, families and high performers. I bring the tangled ADHD heart, the coaching room stories and my own belief that ADHD can be both struggle and strength. This one is tender, honest and at times emotional. It is for: 💭 Parents who are scared their child will never believe in themselves 📚 Teachers and school staff who know the system is failing kids and want to do better 🧡 ADHDers who have felt humiliated by their label, yet also suspect there is real strength in the way their brain works If you have spent years feeling like the label ADHD is a life sentence, or feeling like you have to pretend it is all positive in order to be accepted, I want this episode to feel like a deep breath for your nervous system. You are allowed to hold both. You are allowed to grieve the struggle and still build a life that feels meaningful and yours. Let’s get untangled and show the world what we are made of. 🧡 💡 Want to dive deeper? 🧡 Join the free Untangled Community → click here 🎓 Become an ADHD-Informed Coach → click here 🧘 Retreats → click here ✨ Follow us → @adhd_untangled Lots of love and strength, Rosie 🧡🖤
