February Recap: Financial Foundations for Family Security01 Mar 202600:01:34

Welcome back to the podcast.

Today we’re taking a moment to look back at the conversations we had throughout February around Financial Foundations for Family Security and Financial Habits for Stability.

Over the past month we explored a simple but powerful idea: strong families build stability before disruption ever arrives.

We talked about the everyday financial habits that quietly protect households—things like the 15-minute money check-in, automating savings, planning food and household expenses, and having honest financial conversations at home.

None of these habits are dramatic. But together they create something incredibly important: confidence and calm when life becomes unpredictable.

Because when disruption comes, families don’t rise to their intentions—they fall to their habits.

In this episode we’ll recap the key ideas from February and reflect on how those small habits help families lead with clarity, stability, and preparedness.

Let’s get into it.

2026 Disaster Preparedness Outlook14 Feb 202600:02:35

Every year, disruption gets a little more complex—and a little more expensive for organizations that aren’t ready.

The 2026 disaster preparedness outlook lays out the trends leaders are facing and the practical steps that protect people, operations, and revenue before disruption hits.

If you lead a team, organization, or community group, this is worth your time.

“Inside the eCERT Program: A New Model for National Disaster Readiness23 Nov 202500:34:49

When disaster strikes and the systems we rely on collapse, who steps in to reconnect communities, restore communication, and bring real help where it’s needed most? In this powerful interview, I sit down with Mark Matheson, founder of the eCERT Disaster Response Program, to explore how his team is building the future of emergency readiness in America.

From nationwide volunteer deployability to cutting-edge mobile tech platforms like the Mavis units, eCERT represents a new national model for disaster response—faster, smarter, and built for the realities we face today. Whether you’re an emergency manager, first responder, preparedness advocate, or simply someone who wants their family safe when everything else fails, this conversation will change the way you think about readiness.

Word of the Week - Conversation13 Jun 202200:04:25

20220613 Word of the Week - Conversation

Halfway through June and my Conversation skills are being tested daily.

As a leader it is crucial to speak clearly.

Let's look at some tools and techniques you can use to have an important conversation with anyone.

Before going into the conversation, ask yourself some questions.

What is your purpose for having the conversation?

What do you hope to accomplish?

What would be an ideal outcome?

Whom are you talking to?

When are you going to talk to them?

Engage them in the conversation and ask for feedback.

Think of the person you need to have an important conversation with. Is he or she similar or different from you when it comes to how they communicate?

Is the person:

· Controlling

· Analyzing

· Supporting

· Promoting

These are all different communication styles. And, knowing your own style and the style of the person you're talking to is important so that you can adjust your style to fit the situation.

You may want to avoid having the conversation if:

You're not ready. You need more information or time to think about what you want to say.

The other person isn't ready. If they're not in the right frame of mind, it's best to wait until they are.

You're both too emotional. It's important to be able to have a conversation without getting defensive or angry. If you're feeling too emotionally charged, it's best to wait until you've calmed down.

You're not in the right place. If the environment isn't conducive to a productive conversation, it's best to wait until you can talk in a more private or relaxed setting.

The time isn't right. If you try to have a conversation when the other person is rushed or doesn't have time, it likely won't be productive.

Scheduling a time to talk can help ensure that both parties are ready and willing to have a productive conversation.

Some final tips:

Listen more than you speak. You'll learn more about what the other person is thinking and feeling, and they'll be more likely to listen to you if you've listened to them.

Don't interrupt. It shows that you are not listening.

Plan your conversation to the style that matches the person you are talking with and give them what they need to be in the conversation.

Plan your conversation to the style that matches the person you are talking with

and give them what they need to be in the conversation.

Do not over-analyze it. Get the momentum going.

Officially the first weekend of summer is done. And I have already seen several people at the local grocery store buying Aloe Vera for their beet red burn.

Sunscreen; I buy 100% Zink Oxide in a tube and rub it evenly on all parts of exposed skin.

If you must use spray on sunscreen rub it evenly on all parts of exposed skin.

Word of the Week – Belief30 May 202200:07:29

20220530 Word of the Week – Belief

Vlog can be found here: https://wp.me/p7NwNC-1c0

On this day, May 30th,2022, Memorial Day I honor all service members who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom of speech. And the responsibility that comes with it.

Don’t Believe everything you hear and only half of what you see.

Of note is the fabricated photo in this article.

https://theintercept.com/2022/05/26/ar-15-uvalde-school-shooting-vietnam-war/

This photo does show what appears to be a modern AR-15. However, it is obvious the photo has been fabricated, or the caption is fabricated.

The facts of photo fabrication are the collapsible buttstock and cylindrical forward hand grips. These were not issued on the Military M4 until 1994, 27 years after this photo was taken

The apparent full flash suppressor has never been in use on an M16 rifle. A three-pronged flash hider was used in 1967. And the length of the barrel identifies this as a short-barreled rifle. Not in production during the Vietnam Conflict. The photo is a fabrication or was taken after Vietnam, and the caption has been fabricated

Compare the two photos to see what a standard-issue battle rifle of the time looked like. No, they are not the same.

http://www.vietnamgear.com/

If this is an actual A.P. photo, why the fabrication. I think the photo historians at Associated Press (A.P.) would know better, or are they intentionally lying about the photo? Yes I did say lying.

Another option, this being passed off as an A.P. photo by the editors of The Intercept? Someone is lying here.

The real question is whether someone is lying. If news media is willing to lie to the public with a photo, what else are they lying about with their words?

“The recognition that something has gone terribly wrong with how people consume information has led to calls for censorship or even appointing a government “reality czar.”

https://theintercept.com/2021/02/13/news-rage-economy-postjournalism-andrey-mir/

Censorship and a Reality Cazar would be suspect in itself.

When the organizations we rely on for information are lying to us for profit, the entire system becomes suspect. When the information we rely on becomes suspect, we retreat into our own bubble of information and what we believe to be true. The danger here is that we really should not believe what we believe.

Trust, but verify.

Word of the Week - No23 May 202200:08:45

20220523 Word of the Week – No

The most significant reason I hear about why someone cannot do something is. "I do not have the time." Not enough time is one of the biggest lies, excuses, and stories ever contrived to avoid something. And it might not be your fault.

Diving deep into the reasons shows that we often attempt to do more than we can if the limited time of our day. And I am so saddened that I do things better left undone because of personal fears.

5 Reasons to Say No

You're responsible for yourself

Self-responsibility. True leaders are responsible for their actions.

https://hackspirit.com/taking-responsibility/

You are not responsible for anyone else

Accepting others' responsibilities can become toxic and prevent us from accomplishing our needs.

Your intuition is one of your greatest advocates.

Trust your gut. Analysis has its place so does intuition.

When we stretch ourselves thin, we're not helping anyone

Word of the Week –One17 May 202200:05:46

20220516 Word of the Week – One

What is the number one thing holding you back?

If you knew that you would not fail, what would you do?

Many of us let our dreams die for no reason, but our little voice inside tells us we can’t do it.

No proof, no evidence of failure. There is no burden of proof that you will fail until you have failed.

Thomas Edison said he found 10,000 ways not to make a light bulb. He didn’t fail.

We struggle daily with the decision to succeed.

Commit to your family, business, your  life. Are you a parent, business executive, business owner,  entrepreneur, or a human being? If you are alive today, you are a leader. Lead something.

But I don’t know-how. Learn.

What if I fail? You cannot fail at  something if you do not do it. Failure is part of the process. You  cannot learn to succeed until you know what does not work.

But I need permission. No, you don’t. You do not require anyone’s approval but your own.

I learned long ago that asking for  permission is a guaranteed failure. Those who decide if we need  permission want us to fail so we can stay where we are.

Are you happy where you are?

You are the one who is here to succeed. Do something. Have a plan, be playful, and persevere. And you will succeed.

That is why we have contingency plans.

When developing plans for any venture. Have the designated Nervous Nellie who’s only function is to break the plan. Learn from it and make the plan better.

Have fun with it and let others become your Nervous Nellie.

Word of the Week – Questions11 May 202200:03:56

20220510 Word of the Week – Questions

Communication has been on top of my mind for some time now.

I am always curious about something, and questions drive our curiosity. We want answers, so we ask questions.

As leaders, it is our responsibility to keep growing and learning.

Keep asking questions. Don't stop asking.

Be the curious seeker, scientist, and explorer. Learn something about yourself and those around you.

When in conversation, deepen it with why.

Following an answer with why questions will deepen the conversation, and you might gain more insight and connection with your conversation partners. But don't become the interrogator. Share your own story.

Take the opportunity to become vulnerable and connected.

The Business of Disaster14 Nov 202500:08:46

In today’s vlog, I’m breaking down a powerful insighthighlighted in Bloomberg’s recent feature on the rising costs of disasterrecovery in America.

Tip of the Day - Protein29 Apr 202200:06:08

Lately, I have been craving more protein in my diet.

I eat more meat, nuts, and dairy products. And I still crave more protein.

There are many reasons to have a high-protein diet. It helps with muscle mass, helps your brain think better, and helps you sleep better while reducing cravings for late-night snacks and high-carb foods.

While looking at my disaster food stores have identified several protein items which are consistent. First, there are those chicken and beef soups, canned chicken, tuna, and dried meats.

And that can get kind of boring, so I decided to introduce a different form of protein into my food stores. These are simple protein shakes in one serving container.

Keep in mind that if you add these to your food stores, the shelf life is approximately one year. Therefore, I recommend repeatedly rotating your food from your disaster stockpile through your kitchen to keep your disaster stockpile as fresh as possible.

Word of the Week – Compromise25 Apr 202200:06:13

I bring up this word to ponder because of some of the positive and negative connotations of the term compromise. Look it up in the dictionary, and it appears to be relatively negative.

Somehow, we are settling for something less, we are making ourselves vulnerable, and somehow, we are losing.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. I talked to some people at a party earlier this week, and the term compromise came up. The consensus of many people there was that compromise is not a win-win situation. It's a win-lose. People felt that they were losing if they had to compromise in a negotiation. It didn't matter what the compromise might be. They just considered it a loss.

When we think of that, we must wonder how that ideology manufactures or manifests itself in their life.

Take action, put a plan together, and even if you never have to use it, you will have it for your children. And your children will recognize that you're doing something for them, and they will love you. So, mom and dad, what are you compromising?

Don't Believe Anything You Hear and Only Half Of What You See20 Apr 202200:09:33

Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.

That statement was told to me in the fall of 1972 by a Senior Non-commissioned Officer in the United States Army. I had recently finished basic training and was posted to my first duty station in the 101stAirborne, I and other young soldiers were about to embark on an on-the-job training course as an infantryman.

Vietnam was still going on. But it was still three years until the US would be out of there. Thousands of young soldiers were pouring into the 101st Airborne to replenish its losses, and our anticipation or expectation was that we would be returning to Vietnam.

But that did not happen. We were being trained to fight a nuclear, chemical, and biological war against the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe.

My posting in the 101st Airborne was in a Battalion Recon Platoon. Our job was to move forward of the Forward Edge of the Battle Area (FEBA), conduct tactical intelligence surveillance, and get the information back to our command behind us.

As a young Recon Scout, it became very apparent that anything I said or did could adversely affect the lives of up to 30,000 people behind me. It was vital to know that what I was saying was true because the people listening to my words would believe it to be so and act on it.

Today almost 50 years later, that statement is more accurate than ever.

Don't Believe Anything You Hear And Only Half Of What You See

Today we live in a world emboldened by outright liars, misinformation mongers, politicians, media personalities, and marketers who will set our emotions on fire so they can profit from it.

Today the American people and the people of the world are vastly divided. Why?

Because we believe we know better than they do

"Beliefs are what divide people. Doubt unites them. – Peter Ustinov"

If we were to take a moment and look at our recent history. It does not matter what side of the fence you sit on. We can objectively see that some of the gravest injustices done by people are because of emotion. Not because of the truth or the facts.

For us to be effective, we need to have a plan. We need to remove the emotion from the equation.

Learn to seek the truth of what can be done, how it can be done, what needs to be done, and when it needs to be done.

Our plans should be based on facts and truth. There is no emotion involved there, though sometimes emotion will pop up. I will enjoy it at the moment, and then I will get back to the brain and follow the plan. The brain is smart the heart is stupid.

Word of the Week – Fun19 Apr 202200:05:07

Many of us don't just don't have enough fun. That's one reason I am throwing this out into the universe. I know I'm guilty of it myself. I'll be too busy. I have things to do, and drudgery abounds. I get to wash the dishes, have the bathroom to clean, have the laundry to do, and the yard needs to be taken care of. That's no fun.

Tip of the Day - Have a Plan17 Apr 202200:04:31

Sometimes we don’t think we need a plan and there are many times when a spur-of-the-moment thing is very enjoyable. But even though we might do something in the spur of the moment, subconsciously, deep down inside we have a plan.

It is usually terrific to have a plan of action when it comes to disaster management planning, business, or family.

A plan of action will help you do several things. One is it saves some time. You will not be running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Having a plan will save you energy because you’re not going to be frustrated by waste energy trying to figure out what you’re going to do. And believe it or not having a plan can help you save money.

Why is having a plan essential? Are you a leader in your family, a leader in your business, or your community? You are responsible for everything.

it is sometimes good to do things differently. Get outside, do something different, go have some fun make it a plan to enjoy yourself. Leaders accept responsibility for it all.

The Five-Second Answer13 Apr 202200:04:15

I’ve been pondering what I call the five-second question answer.

I remember a point when I was filled with hubris full of myself and knew everything. And people would ask me questions.

I would think, man, can’t you go online to look it up? It will take five seconds. I realized I was doing myself and them a severe disservice.

I realized that they probably do want an answer to a question, and they don’t know where to find it. So, they are asking the person they think will have the answer.

I discovered many years ago there are three basic reasons people don’t accomplish something.

1. One is they don’t know how to do what they want. They need an answer.

2. They are afraid of doing something wrong, and they need an answer to do it right.

3.  And three there seeking permission. Permit them to find the answer to do what they feel like they need to do and accomplish whatever their goal is.

Word of the Week – Other04 Apr 202200:08:36

What exactly is the other?

The word other can encompass many, many different things. It can be something different than what's expected, separate from what is expected, or opposite of what is expected,

The word "other" can cover many different things. When I think about others, I usually think about what other things I should be thinking about that I probably am not thinking about.

We can think of others as an extra can opener in our disaster management planning. Others can be the individuals needing specific assistance for help in the evacuation or response process.

Others can be finding out what other things can bite us.

We don't think about some things because they are not at the top of our minds. And that's normal. We are human. If we don't have it in front of us we will not be thinking about it.

When making or creating your emergency action plan or working on any other type of project, it's always good to have a little checkbox with the word other next to it.

Guarding the Digital Frontier: A Conversation with Jeffrey Lyon of The Cyber Wild24 Oct 202500:36:15

In an age where our personal lives, finances, and family safety are wired into the cloud, cybersecurity is no longer a luxury—it’s survival. In this compelling 30-minute conversation, I sit down with Jeffrey Lyon, founder of The Cyber Wild, to uncover what’s really happening in the digital wilderness that surrounds us.

Jeffrey doesn’t just talk tech—he humanizes it. From the recent AWS disruption to the rise of AI deepfakes and ransomware, he paints a vivid picture of how every keystroke, email, and click can become a crossroads between safety and exposure. Together, we explore why humans—not machines—remain the weakest link, and how training, awareness, and culture change are our best defenses.

What makes this conversation different is its practicality. We don’t just name threats; we break them down into doable steps for families, small businesses, and community organizations. From budget-friendly protection tools and password management habits to IoT safety and phishing detection techniques, Jeffrey delivers insights that every listener—tech-savvy or not—can immediately apply.

We also look toward the future: affordable Security Operations Center (SOC) services for small businesses, educational gamification, and Jeffrey’s upcoming book on crypto scams. Together, we reflect on how cybersecurity is not just about data—it's about protecting the people behind the devices.

So tune in, take notes, and take action. Because in this connected world, safety isn’t automatic—it’s intentional.

Visit www.thecyberwild.com or reach Jeffrey directly at info@thecyberwild.com to learn more about his work.
And as always, you can find more preparedness resources at www.emergencyactionplanning.com and follow the ACT ASAP podcast wherever you listen.

Tip of the Day - Celebrate the Win02 Apr 202200:06:20

Yesterday was a first for Emergency Action Planning. We participated in our first Business Expositions.

It was a fun, entertaining, and educational event. Several people were enrolled in the Emergency Action Planning process, made several connections, and had a great time until the liquid sunshine showed up.

Celebrate your wins. Let the world know you are doing something that matters and there are successes.

When building your emergency action plan, celebrate the accomplishments with your family and loved ones.

These celebrations will build momentum and drive more incredible achievements because of the visible, tangible proof of accomplishing the task.

Celebrating the wins draws the family closer together because of the shared responsibility of achievement.

Celebrate your wins. No matter how small. If not you, who?

Word of the Week – Fraud28 Mar 202200:08:29

Beware of disaster fraud.

Unfortunately, during the aftermath of the disaster, there will be an influx of con artists into the area wanting to take your money from you.

You should know some things about disaster fraud or consumer fraud in general.

Tip of the Day – Connection25 Mar 202200:03:16

Today I am reaching out to one of my connections in media because I would like to connect a friend who is putting together an event.

And I realized we all have connections that can create wonderful things if we let them.

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/connection

I also realized we have people in our lives that we have not connected with for a very long time.

Grab that smart phone and reach out to those that have fell by the wayside. Ask them how they are doing, and what can you do to support them. You never know where that conversation will take you.

Word of the Week – Recovery21 Mar 202200:07:00

Disaster recovery can fall into two camps, personnel and business. For our proposes, we will discuss personnel recovery in this article.

Suppose you have questions on disaster/emergency recovery. Click this link, conduct a quick Disaster/Emergency Planning Assessment, and schedule a consult.

All things emergency management-related have a plan. I do not call it emergency management planning for nothing.

Having a plan will prevent panic, make it easier to recover, and instill confidence in your family.

But it will not prevent;

Death and injury

Property damage and loss

Economic crisis

Recrimination and social unrest

To recover from these events, you do need a plan.

Tip of the Day – Time, Distance, and Shielding19 Mar 202200:06:37

While learning everything I can about protecting myself and my loved ones from emergencies and disasters, I have concluded that there are three terms we can use that will cover most disasters and protect us.

That is time distance and shielding.

Time simply means don’t be there at the same time that it, whatever the disaster or emergency is, happening is the timing issue.

Distance is having space between you and the event, so it won’t affect you. The farther away you are from the disaster or the emergency, the safer you will be from the disaster or emergency.

And shielding if you can’t get far away from it then place something between you and the hazard, so it will not affect you.

During my first tour of duty in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1979 Post-Vietnam, the United States military actively prepared to conduct a nuclear, chemical, and biological war against the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe.

And that is where time distance and shielding come into play, when protecting an individual from nuclear radiation.

Time; The less time an individual is exposed to radiation, the less exposure you will receive and live longer.

Distance;  The farther away you are from the radiated area, the less exposure you will receive and the longer you will live.

And if you cannot spend time away from or distance yourself from radiation, you need shielding between you and the radiated area to prevent exposure so you can live longer.

I don’t know what tomorrow will bring. But keeping in mind three concepts of time, distance, and shielding are always good to know as limited safety factors protecting yourself from emergencies and disasters

20220314 Word of the Week – Special

We are all special. Some of us are more special than others. 😊

During your emergency action planning, it is important to recognize any special needs of your group and develop ways to attend to them.

These special needs may be unique to the people affected by your plan and may include some of the following conditions.

Individuals with special medical needs

Infants, children, teens, adults, and the elderly.

Mobility, hearing, sight, or emotionally impaired individuals.

Dietary restrictions.

Tip of the Day – Stick to It!

What does that mean?

Doggedness

Endurance

Grit

Persistence

Stamina

Tenaciousness

Tenacity

Does it really drive you? Do you desire it above all else? Will you do anything necessary to accomplish it?

In the last few weeks, I seem to be on a theme of stick-to-it-iveness.

Determination and persistence, especially in spite of difficulties; perseverance:

The Three P’s of Preparedness09 Mar 202200:04:19

There are three important P's of preparedness that everyone should keep in mind: planning, playing, and persevering.

Planning is the key to any successful project. You need a well-thought-out plan to guide you from start to finish. Without a plan, you're likely to get overwhelmed and give up before you even start.

Playing is an important part of life. It's how we learn and grow, and it's a necessary part of keeping our spirits high. When things get tough, it's important to find ways to lighten the mood and have some fun.

Perseverance is essential for any goal. No one ever achieved anything great without persevering through hard times and setbacks. When the going gets tough, don't give up – keep pushing forward until you reach your goals.

Planning, playing, and persevering are the three P's of preparedness that everyone should remember. By keeping these in mind, you'll be better equipped to handle any situation that comes your way.

20220307 Word of the Week – Pets07 Mar 202200:05:47

Word of the Week – Pets

I have had pets most on my life. And I genuinely loved and did my best to care for them. I kept their bowls filled with water and food as needed. They were sheltered, cleaned up after, and played with.

Our pets require the same considerations during a disaster or emergency that we do. Shelter, food, water, and they will need to go poo, or pee at some time.

Our pets look to us for comfort and support. They have our backs when needed, and we should have theirs.

You are responsible for the health and welfare of your pets; they will not leave you. Don’t leave them.

Is Today the Tomorrow You Were Dreading Yesterday?04 Mar 202200:04:37

The Ukraine war is a clear example of how apathy in the west has emboldened a powerful, malicious world leader.

What is happening in Eastern Europe today is happening because we allowed it to happen. For decades, western leaders have demonstrated an apathetic response to despots and malevolent world leaders.

What does this mean for us here, now, today?

If we remain apathetic to the safety and welfare of our children, we will teach them apathy as a lifestyle. And our children will teach it to their children because that is what we, the parents, are teaching them to be.

Don’t play politician. Stop trying to be your child’s friend. Instead, do the right thing and prepare your children so you will not need to text them and ask if they are alive and OK.

The New Battlefield24 Oct 202500:04:26

They don’t knock anymore… they click.
Scammers have upgraded their game — and now, every text, email, or “urgent message” could be a digital ambush waiting to happen.

We’ve all seen them — fake shipping notices, fraudulent charities, even “friends” asking for help through payment apps. But as we step into the holiday season, these attacks surge by almost 400%.

That’s why I wrote my latest blog:
👉 “The New Battlefield: Defending Your Wallet in the Digital Warzone.”

In it, I break down how modern scams really work — and how you can stay ahead of them with a few practical, easy-to-use defenses.
Because awareness isn’t paranoia — it’s preparedness.

Word of the Week - Bedding

Can’t sleep without it.

And bedding can be considered shelter. It is there for comfort and to regulate the body’s temperature.

If you are still at home your normal bedding will be just fine. There is no reason to change it unless it’s time to change it anyway. 😉

If you are evacuating, your bedding decision should be determined by;

The climate.

Where are you going.

How much can you carry.

Are you going to a public shelter?

Hotel/Motel, Airbnb?

Friends and family?

At a minimum take a light blanket and a pillow, weather permitting.

Clothing is an extension of our home, and act as shelter.

Three hours without shelter and you can die.

The right clothing helps protect you from the elements and other things that can harm you.

What makes clothing important to us is the fact that cloths are your first line of defense.

Our clothing is able to directly shield and protect us from the elements. Keep us warm by trapping our body heat. Helps keep you cool by wicking moisture to evaporate.

Keeping the flying critters and bugs at bay. And preventing burn injuries from flash fires.

FUDP Conversation with Dr. Jody Carrington

This conversation with Dr. Jody Carrington was released in May 2021, as part of the Conversations On Family Urban Disaster Planning summit.

In the past 15 years Dr. Jody Carrington has assessed, treated, educated and empowered some of our most vulnerable and precious souls on the planet. She is a child psychologist by trade, but Jody rarely treats kids.

The answer lies, she believes, in the people who hold them. Especially when kids have experienced trauma, that’s when they need big people the most.

Some of her favorites include educators, parents, first responders, and foster parents. Jody has shifted the way they think and feel about the holy work that they do.

Her first book, Kids These Days: A Game Plan for (Re)Connecting with those we Teach, Lead & Love, came out in 2019 and sold 20,000 copies in just three months. It is now on Amazon’s Best Sellers List.

When the Reach of Doctors Breaks22 Sep 202500:06:28

Why Every Family Needs to Be Its Own First Responder

Recently, I received yet another email from a man whosemessages always carry the same urgent theme: government failures, collapsing systems, and the hidden costs we’re all about to pay. The latest claimed his brother died, not from illness, but from the ripple effects of a 40-year-old policy decision made back in 1981. I get these emails often, and while they are clearly written to provoke fear, I believe there’s value in pausing to research the claims, separate fact from rhetoric, and uncover what lessons families can actually take away.

The truth is, our healthcare system is strained, and thedoctor shortage and family preparedness are two realities we can’t ignore. Whether or not the email’s story is literal, the underlying point rings true: there are not always enough doctors, nurses, or hospital beds when disaster strikes. From wildfires in California to hurricanes in Florida, we’ve seen how quickly access to care can disappear when systems are overwhelmed. And when that happens, families are left with one option they must become their own first responders.
