BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER Episodes 9&1002 Sep 202401:53:35

We wrap up the first season of Caped Crusader with a Two-Face two-parter, and it's a doozy. Stick around until the very end to hear us talk about where this show stacks up in the history of adapted Batmen and our relationships with Batman adaptations over the years.

Before that: Derek goes to a concert! The Thing is seen on the set of Fantastic Four! This week's trivia is really, really hard. Interested in the Superman piece I recollect fondly in this episode? Read it right here

If you don't care about any of that stuff skip right to 40:00 to get to the meat of the episode. This week's music is Two Faces Have I by Lou Christy.

Next week: we will read the Penguin's first appearance in Detective Comics #58 as we prepare for the upcoming Penguin TV show.

Thanks for listening!

BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER Episodes 7&828 Aug 202401:13:27

We're back from our trip, which means it's back to Gotham as we get to the penultimate episode of our series on the newest Batman cartoon, Batman: The Caped Crusader. This one gives us an LA Confidential-tinged cop story and a vampire tale filled with special guest stars who go unremarked upon in the show. Sneaky!

We don't have as much intro this week as usual, but our theme song is by Todd Rundgren.

Thanks for listening!

THE BOYS: "Beware of the Jabberwock, My Son"01 Jul 202401:36:31

You want Superman news? We got Superman news - tons of pics from the Cleveland set of James Gunn's Superman have hit the web, and we have thoughts on them! Also some other news from the world of comics and movies, including the reveal that Marvel intends on returning to Hall H at Comic-Con this year in a big way. What could they be bringing?

On The Boys we have three storylines that feel consequential in their own way, and we get Simon Pegg delivering a performance so good that I have to eat my words from last week where I was critiquing his previous accent work! The man knocks it out the park. Also, we discuss why Simon Pegg as a dad is so uniquely upsetting to us middle aged Gen Xers.

If you want to skip the news and get right to The Boys just go to 41:55. Consider supporting the show through a subscription at our Patreon! Go to www.patreon.com/cinemasangha and join now!

Thanks for listening!

SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY-AT-LAW: "A Normal Amount of Rage"21 Aug 202201:28:04

It's a new show! We're here to talk about the first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law, billed as the first sitcom in the MCU. But is it all that much funnier than a normal MCU thing?

Based on a character who was invented just to avoid someone else having rights to a female Hulk, a character who has become one of the most interesting and fourth-wall breaking characters in Marvel Comics, She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law certainly has a lot of potential. Does the first episode live up to it or leave us wanting more?

Also: we have a scoop on which DC superhero will be appearing in Shazam: Fury of the Gods! Thanks for listening, and we will see you next week.

THE SANDMAN13 Aug 202201:52:10

This week we're talking about Netflix's 10 episode adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic book series Sandman, by Neil Gaiman and a variety of artists (co-created by Sam Keith). This series is sometimes stunningly faithful to the comic, but there are some changes - some subtle, some aesthetic - that stick in our craws.

We also talk about my tragic history of shoplifting, some comic book movie news and whether or not Derek wants a pet. The main discussion begins at 23:07.

You may have noticed this episode is dropping on a different day of the week than normal - that's because Marvel is going to be releasing She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Thursdays, which means our whole recording schedule bumps back a day. This episode is the first on our new schedule.

Thanks for listening! See you next week for She-Hulk!

BATGIRL Canceled, THE BOYS05 Aug 202202:29:07

This week we go a little long. First we talk about what's happening at Warner Bros Discovery, and in the process almost certainly show how little we know about business. We are not business men! We talk about the cancelation of Batgirl, the plan to have a ten year plan for DC movies, and more.

Then we do an hour on The Boys, Amazon Prime's superhero show. I was resistant to watching, but Derek was in from day one. It's a spoiler-filled discussion, so if you haven't watched the show, you might want to stay away. Or maybe the spoilers will intrigue you!

We will return next week with a discussion of Netflix's Sandman show, and then after that we will be back with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law! Thanks for listening.

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Breaking News!25 Jul 202202:02:16

Marvel and DC came to SDCC and gave us a bounty of new information... well, Marvel did anyway. Things are a little less fulsome on the DC side, but does that mean an unannounced Fandome is in our future?

Marvel gave us all of Phase Five, a look at the cornerstones of Phase Six AND the name of this three Phase cycle: The Multiverse Saga. We go long on all of these movies, what they could be, what it could all mean, and what we're most excited about. For me it's definitely Namor.

Plus: I share the reason why Marvel has still not announced an X-Men film, and likely won't be announcing one for a hot minute. Plus: we make our best guesses on how the Multiverse Saga will end. Plus: we just go on and on about a 38 year old miniseries, Secret Wars

We'll be back next week to chat The Boys, and then after that we'll begin covering She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

If you want to hear us talk about these Phase Five and Six movies when they come out, you have to join the Patreon at a $5 or above level, which will get you access to Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast.  The latest episode is about Thor: Love and Thunder

MS. MARVEL: "No Normal"15 Jul 202201:50:13

With all the 'end of the world' stakes behind us, Ms. Marvel closes out its season with something much more personal. This week we get some information that presages a HUGE change in the MCU, we get a cameo we all expected, and we get some very sweet and emotional moments with the Khan family.

Before we talk about that we discuss all kinds of news and stuff, but you can jump to 31:10 if you just don't care to hear us give our bad-brained takes on what's happening in the worlds of superhero cinema and TV.

We will be taking a week off and then we will return with a special episode talking about The Boys, Amazon's adaptation of the Garth Ennis/Darick Robertson superhero satire. And then we'll be back with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

By the way, want to know what we thought of Thor: Love and Thunder? You'll have to subscribe to our Watch Men podcast to find out. That's our monthly superhero deep dive podcast available to $5 and above subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha.

Thanks for listening!

MS. MARVEL: "Time and Again"08 Jul 202201:24:45

This week we go really off topic in the intro, talking about everything from haunted houses on TikTok to a lengthy discussion of Amazon Prime's The Boys, as well as a whole bunch of superhero TV and movie news. If none of that interests you, jump right to 37:45 to get to the meat of the episode.

This week Kamala continues her time travel as we get to know her great-grandparents and the show throws some structural curveballs at us. Plus: are there more hints of Inhumans?

This weekend Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters, and that means we'll be doing a Watch Men episode about it quite soon. Take this opportunity to subscribe at the $5 and above level so you get to listen to us talk about all the superhero movies getting released, including every MCU film! Click here to join

Thanks for listening - see you next week for the finale!

MS. MARVEL: "Seeing Red"01 Jul 202201:18:44

COVID can't keep a good podcast down, and it can't keep this one down either!

This week's Ms. Marvel takes a field trip to Pakistan, introduces a new ancient secret society... and possibly leave the door for Ms. Marvel to be an Inhuman after all?

But what about the costume? Is it taking too long to come together, or is the build-up right? And is the prison breakout as bad as we think it is?

We will return next week with episode 5! And we will also be back soon on Watch Men with an episode about Thor: Love and Thunder. If you want to hear us talk about the MCU movies, that is the only podcast where it happens. It's available to $5 and above subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha!

MS. MARVEL: "Destined"24 Jun 202201:44:44

This is a crummy day. I feel dumb even uploading this episode today, it's such a crummy day. But the show must go on, and while I hope that you are getting ready for the long fight ahead of us to reclaim bodily autonomy for women, I suspect everybody could use a little distraction from the pain for a bit. Hopefully this episode of Marvelvision can be that for you.

This week we talk about the latest episode of Ms. Marvel, where Kamala learns some secrets about her history, we get a canon-crammed flashback and our first superhero fight, where Kamala begins to really learn how to use her powers. Three episodes in and this show continues to be terrific - can Marvel run the table with the next three? Here's hoping.

Thanks for listening, and I hope you're all doing okay.

MS. MARVEL: "Crushed"17 Jun 202202:08:04

Is it possible that Ms. Marvel  is the best MCU TV show? Two episodes in and the answer so far is yes - but can it keep it up once the plot kicks in?

This week we talk about the episode where Kamala Khan takes her first major step as a superhero, a step clearly influenced by the 1978 Superman. This is the kind of heroism that the MCU has been sorely missing, and it's great to see it here.

We also talk a lot about news this week, and get a little offtopic as we argue about whether or not it matters that franchises gatekeep their universes, telling bigots to get lost... and whether they actually mean it, or if Disney is just happy to take money from even the hardest core Nazi. Skip to about 48 minutes if you don't care about any of that (told you we talk a lot this week).

We will return next week with Ms. Marvel episode three. A personal note: in this episode I talk about some stuff going on at home that might delay the release of our next episode. I hope you'll be patient with us!

Thanks for listening, see you again soon.

MS. MARVEL: "Generation Why"13 Jun 202201:49:35

If you listen to our other weekly podcast, The Bad Batch, you know we've been having a hard time with Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's not very good! Which makes the debut of Ms. Marvel all the more wonderful for us - finally something to enjoy on Wednesdays!

This show explodes the "Marvel style" and feels fresh, unique and fun. We love the first episode and have high hopes for what's to come. Plus this episode: COVID hits home! A lengthy digression into what a cool movie the life of Mohammed would make. Thoughts on the Nega-bands and wishing for Rick Jones... and more!

Thanks for listening and we're excited about the next five weeks!

Special Free Episode: THE ACOLYTE: "Night"27 Jun 202401:34:28

Here's a free listen to another one of our podcasts, The Bad Batch, where we talk Star Wars. This week's episode of The Acolyte was such a big deal that we thought folks who aren't normally subscribed might want to listen, and that maybe this would incentivize you to come join us at the Patreon! It's as simple as going to www.patreon.com/cinemasangha and subscribing for only $1 a month. A dollar!

Please be aware: we go heavy spoilers early so if you aren't watching The Acolyte but might some day, be careful!

THE TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK07 Jun 202201:57:19

Before Affleck. Before Cox. There was... Rex Smith! Broadway legend, singing star, four times wed, and the first person to play a live action Daredevil. And his suit is pretty much the same bad one as the first season Netflix suit!

David Bruce Banner has been on the run for eleven years, and in this 1989 TV movie he comes to The City, where he gets mixed up in the battle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who is never called Kingpin and who is played by John Rhys-Davies dressed like an evil record exec in a 1985 MTV music video.

Is it bad? You know it! Discussion of the TV movie begins at 30:12, but if you skip to there you'll miss all the superhero news that's fit to talk about!

We will back in a couple of days as this show pivots to covering Ms. Marvel, which debuts June 8th. See you then!

LEGENDS OF THE SUPERHEROES: "The Roast"21 May 202201:48:11

It's the second of the two 1979 DC superheroes live action specials and this one is... better? Less painful? At least that's what Devin feels - Derek found this one sapping his very will to live.

In a premise as nonsensical as the jokes, The Roast has Ed McMahan presiding over a roast of the Superfriends - a roast that includes their greatest villains, who show up to do stuff like play doctor and perform song and dance numbers. Plus: Ghetto Man shows up, a concept just as racist as you suspect it to be.

Next week we're going to give you a peek at what we're doing on our other superhero podcast, Watch Men. We will run the very first episode of that show, where we cover the Snyder Cut of Justice League, and if you like what you hear you may be interested in subscribing at the $5 level to get that show every single month. You can subscribe at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha.

Thanks for listening and we'll be back with a new episode in two weeks, where we'll talk about The Trial of the Incredible Hulk

LEGENDS OF THE SUPERHEROES: "The Challenge"14 May 202201:53:08

With no new Marvel shows this week we have pivoted to covering other live action superhero stuff, and for some ungodly reason we chose Legends of the Superheroes, two live action DC Comics specials from network TV in 1979. Featuring the return of Adam West, Burt Ward and Frank Gorshin to their Batman roles, this first special, The Challenge, is a stunningly inane and unfunny hour that also happens to have some of the most comic-accurate versions of the DC characters ever put on film. Therein lies the fascinating dichotomy.

When the Legion of Doom decides to end the world in one hour the Superfriends have to go out and bumble their way through unbearable sketches, and then Mordru the Merciless rides a Ski-Doo. It's the worst of Old Hollywood meets a whole bunch of absolute nobody actors with a script by people who could have definitely done better. And it's just the first one - we're doing the second special next week!

Both are available free on Tubi, but be aware they have the episodes flipped, so The Challenge is presented as the second episode, when it's actually the first. As if there was going to be continuity to worry about.

If you're wondering what we thought of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the one place to find out is Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast, available to $5 and above subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. Check it out - the episodes are loooong. Speaking of long, this lengthy ep has an intro/news that runs to 30:23, in case you feel like skipping all that.

MOON KNIGHT: "Gods and Monsters"07 May 202201:33:01

The finale is here! Does Moon Knight make it all work? Is there room for a second season? Did they introduce a new superhero who can show up in team-ups instead of Oscar Isaac?

Plus: Marvel news! The usual digressions! Skip to 27:24 if you don't care about that stuff. But if you do: we love you.

This show will NOT be going dark until Ms. Marvel. We're gonna talk about some stuff that's slightly outside of the remit of the program, just to keep the fun going, but we'll be staying in the live action superhero TV arena. Next week: The Challenge of the Superheroes!, the insane 1979 live-action DC superhero TV special, one of two produced that year. The second, The Superhero Roast, we'll be doing the week after.

Great news: you can watch this free on Tubi. See you next week!

And by the way, if you want to hear us talk about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the only place for that is Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast. It's available at the $5 and above levels of the Patreon. Join now at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha!

MOON KNIGHT: "Asylum"30 Apr 202201:39:50

This week Moon Knight heads into the endgame with a... clip show?!? Well, not a clip show but a solidly surreal flashback episode that fills in a lot of the gaps in Moon Knight's history and the origin of Marc Spector's split personality.

First we have a bunch of news to go through, including the sad loss of the great Neal Adams. While discussing this we recount an Adams story but get the specifics wrong - it's not Green Arrow who is weirdly racist... it's The Flash!

Here's a link to the true version of the story!

We also talk about live theater and a whole lot more, but jump to 42: 38 if you don't care about that. That'll bring you to the main episode, where two Catholic boys weigh in on Jewish law.

We will return next week with the finale of Moon Knight, and in the meantime consider getting more of us by joining the Patreon - www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. For $1 a month you get The Bad Batch, our Star Wars TV show podcast, where we're gearing up for the new Kenobi show. For $5 a month you get that podcast and Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast. The next episode will be about Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, so don't miss out!

MOON KNIGHT: "The Tomb"22 Apr 202201:23:48

Are ya ready to bust some tombs? This episode of Moon Knight takes us deep into adventure archeology, one of the great genres and one we see all too rarely. Then it takes a hard left in the final minutes, giving us some surreality we were not expecting. And all of this without a single appearance of Moon Knight!

In the intro we hit the latest comic book movie news, including the continued plight of Ezra Miller, the new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer and more. If that stuff doesn't interest you, skip to 33:52 to get to the main Moon Knight madness.

We shall return next week. In the meantime, check out our other shows at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha - The Bad Batch, a Star Wars TV show podcast available to $1 and above subscribers and Watch Men, a monthly superhero deep dive show for $5 and above subscribers. The last two episodes have been about Morbius and The Batman, and the next will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Check it out!

Marvelvision: MOON KNIGHT: "A Friendly Type"15 Apr 202201:42:16

This week we have some questions, including why is that guy tugging on Moon Knight's cape and why is Marc Spector asking rando guys in the street about the location of a sarcophagus? And isn't there a website that will let you look at what the stars were like in the past?

But don't take these questions for complaints; Moon Knight episode three continues the show's streak of feeling a lot like a comic book, complete with things happening because they're cool as opposed to logical. And we love that!

It also shows that this program is hard to pin down - this episode feels like a totally different show than the last two. If your main character has split personalities you have the option to have split genres on your show.

We talk Marvel and DC news in the intro, which lasts until 35:17. so if you don't want to hear our witty banter, skip right to there to get the meat of the episode.

We'll be back next week. In the meantime find us at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha where we have two other podcasts: The Bad Batch, a Star Wars TV show podcast for $1 and above subscribers and Watch Men, a longform monthly superhero deep dive podcast for $5 and above subscribers. Check us out!

Marvelvision: MOON KNIGHT: "Summon the Suit"08 Apr 202201:21:11

This week we summon the soup as we continue our adventure in the world of Moon Knight, the new MCU show currently on Disney+.

Moon Knight so far has been pretty darn cool, and it feels very unlike other previous Marvel stuff. This episode in particular leans into some cool horror stuff... that, weirdly enough, echoes imagery seen in this weekend's latest Marvel masterpiece (please read the sarcasm), Morbius.

In this episode of Marvelvision we talk about Marc Spector's different identities and how they work, we enjoy his new suit, and we sing the praises of Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy, as well as loving on Oscar Isaac as per usual.

Want more Marvel from us? Join the Patreon at the $5 or above level to get Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast. The latest episode is Morbius, and next month's will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Click here to join!

Marvelvision: MOON KNIGHT: "The Goldfish Problem"01 Apr 202201:54:55

Hey,  remember us? It's the Marvelvision boys, and we're back with a new Marvel show! We did a little diversion into Peacemaker and then took a few weeks off, but we have returned and we are ensconced in the old MCU again.

Or are we? .This is one of the subjects tackled in this week's Marvelvision, about the first episode of Moon Knight. The showrunners have said that they disconnected this show from the larger Marvel Universe, so we shouldn't expect a lot of connections, nods or cameos. That said, we do get at least one Easter Egg relating to the Moon Knight comic book.

On this ep we talk about the very, very strange debut of this new show, the fact that Moon Knight has no definitive storyline, and the ways that Oscar Isaac is bringing his A-level acting game and his extreme D-level British accent game... and how that could be on purpose?

If you missed us while we were away you should be subscribed to our other show, The Bad Batch, where we discuss Star Wars TV shows every week! That's for $1 subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha.

If you want to hear us talk about the MCU movies, as well as all the other superhero movies being released these days, subscribe at the $5 level to get Watch Men, our superhero movie deep dive podcast. Our latest episode, about The Batman, is almost five hours long. Next week we'll have an episode about Morbius. We watch so you don't have to! Subscribe right here.

See you here again next week for episode two of Moon Knight. Thanks for listening!

PEACEMAKER: "It's Cow Or Never"21 Feb 202201:38:55

It's a 50th episode extravaganza! It's the finale of season one of Peacemaker! It's a floor wax! It's a dessert topping!

Season one of Peacemaker comes to a bloody end as the 11th Street Kids confront the cow. We talk about the surprising cameo at the end, how James Gunn is seemingly leading the DCEU now,  and whether or not the new Flash movie is going to be any good.

We'll be taking a short hiatus after this episode, but we will return for Moon Knight in a month! Don't unsubscribe! We'll be back at the same Bat channel, at the same Bat time.

If you miss us while we're gone, don't worry - we have more podcasts! Check out the weekly Star Wars podcast, The Bad Batch, and the monthly superhero deep dive podcast, Watch Men. The next episode of that hits this week and it's about... Watchmen! Check it out at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha.

THE BOYS: "Wisdom of the Ages"24 Jun 202402:00:58

It's dark this season on The Boys, and our heroes are cruising for a bruising. Especially Starlight, who is cruising to put a bruising on Firecracker. And Homelander goes to Carvel! That's can't be ominous, can it?

This week Derek is tired! There's Superman news (but we recorded before today's set pics appeared). And I don't do so well at trivia.

Thanks for listening! Come join us on the Patreon!

PEACEMAKER: "Stop Dragon My Heart Around"14 Feb 202202:03:17

This episode of our show is a whopper! It's got a pretty long intro - we talk about the Amazon Lord of the Rings show trailer and also about the death of Ivan Reitman, which we learned about as we were recording. As a result we may have said a dumb thing or two about his career, for which we hope you will forgive us.

If you don't want to hear us talk about those things or about the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or Moon Knight trailers, skip to 56:40 to get to the main meat of the ep, where we talk about a Peacemaker that tugs on the heartstrings. There is some discussion of recently deceased dogs, so it gets a little maudlin, but I think it's in the spirit of the show itself.

Thanks for listening. Next week it's the finale! How is it all gonna wrap up? Let's find out together.

PEACEMAKER: "Murn After Reading"07 Feb 202201:34:35

As Peacemaker heads into the end game the show takes a slower episode - by Peacemaker standards - to move pieces into place and to establish some emotional moments that will likely pay off in a big way in upcoming episodes. And it's also great, just like every episode of this show has been.

We have about 25 minutes of news and updates up front, including discussion of how the Flash is an unbearable d-bag. Later on in the show we discuss why Derek cannot remember the name of the television program The Afterparty and why he keeps calling it The Get Together

We'll be back next week with the penultimate episode of Peacemaker! Later this week on The Bad Batch we'll have the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett! And later this month we'll be doing Watchmen on Watch Men... and don't worry, we don't intend on dragging the movie.

To hear those shows you'll need to subscribe at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha.

Thanks for listening!

PEACEMAKER: "Monkey Dory"31 Jan 202201:43:00

Look, if your superhero show has the heroes fighting an ape, we are there for it.

This week we come to the team bonding episode of Peacemaker, where James Gunn weaves the same magic he used to make us love a raccoon and a tree and believe they're best friends forever. It's a gory good time, but with a Gunn story you know that means all the emotional gut punches are just around the corner.

We have a long intro this time, and we touch on Maus and the omnipresence of book banning, and we talk about whether or not to pull this show from Spotify. Let us know what you think, or if you don't want to hear us talk about Evangeline Lilly being anti-vax mandate and Ezra Miller starting a death match with the KKK, just jump to about 37 minutes and we'll miss you with all that nonsense.

There's a poll live for the next episode of Watch Men, where you, the listener, choose whether we watch one of three Alan Moore movies: WatchmenV For Vendetta or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. In an incredible display of cruelty, LXG is currently winning the poll, but Watchmen is in close second place. If you want to make your voice heard, become a $5 or above subscriber at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha and get to votin'!

See you here again next week for the next episode of Marvelvision. Thanks for listening.

PEACEMAKER: "The Choad Less Traveled"23 Jan 202201:44:47

This is the episode of Marvelvision that has it all: a live, on-air COVID test, Derek shitting on Point Break, a detour into the world of Impact! Comics, middle aged men Googling Sgt. Gorilla and more.

Peacemaker just keeps doing it, giving us great episode after great episode, and The Choad Less Traveled, a Vigilante-heavy ep, is no different. It's the show that is redefining the DCEU, and it's making Matter-Eater Lad canon... which of course leads to a discussion about whether or not the Legion went to the 21st century or Peacemaker went to the 31st.

If you're enjoying this show, be sure to check out our other podcasts: The Bad Batch, a Star Wars TV show podcast and Watch Men, a monthly superhero deep dive show. Both are available only to subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha!

PEACEMAKER Episodes 1, 2 And 317 Jan 202202:13:03

Marvelvision has become DistinguishedCompetitionvision this week as we pivot to covering Peacemaker, the new DCEU show on HBOMax. A sequel to The Suicide Squad, Marvel refugee James Gunn has created the show and written and directed the first three episodes.

Before we get there we have some news, as well as a lengthy argument about whether or not John Krasinski - long rumored to play Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie - is a conservative or not, and whether or not A Quiet Place is a conservative movie. Skip to 26:00 if you don't care about any of that stuff.  You can jump right to us loving Peacemaker, talking about whether or not it's problematic and trying to figure out what, if any, Easter Eggs are in the show.

Big change-up this week: since Derek is the DC Guy in the family, he's the Recap Guy for Peacemaker! Take a listen and tell us what you think: should Derek keep being the Recap guy for the next five weeks of this show, or should it go back to the way it was?

See you again next week for episode four of Peacemaker. Coming soon: the next episode of Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast, where we'll be talking Dick Tracy by popular demand. And also in a couple of days: a new episode of The Bad Batch, covering the latest The Book of Boba Fett. If you like listening to two middle aged dipshits talk nerd stuff, this is your Golden Age.

Marvel's 2021 In Review11 Jan 202201:43:48

This week we're taking a look back at the year that was, and what Marvel's 2021 was all about. It turns out this was the biggest MCU year of all, with more hours of Marvel available than anybody could have imagined back when Robert Downey Jr first said "I am Iron Man."

With four films and five TV series, the MCU exploded outwards in 2021. New doors were opened, new characters introduced and new directions were explored. What worked? What didn't? And did DC even remotely try to keep up?

All of this and more this week on Marvelvision!

Special Q&A Episode31 Dec 202101:59:28

You asked, we answered. This week on Marvelvision your hosts take audience questions and try to give them our best answers. We had folks submitting via text and folks calling in, and that makes this a kind of fun and new type of episode for us.

The questions range from ones about the Marvel Cinematic Universe to ones about comic books to ones about us, as individual people. We got so many questions we couldn't answer them all, but we truly appreciate everyone who sent in a question, and we appreciate everyone who listens!

Happy new year!

HAWKEYE: "So This Is Christmas"24 Dec 202102:06:23

The best MCU Disney+ series ends its first season with a big fight, a big tree, and a big man. It's the big finale of Hawkeye and we go big talking about it. Also we go small: this episode I am locked in a closet recording, which leads to some nonsense like the mic being knocked over. Is it shaggy? You know it is.

Merry Christmas to everyone listening. We're going to be coming back next week with a wrap-up episode talking about all things MCU and live action superhero, and we'll be taking questions from subscribers over at the Patreon. If you're not subscribed, now is the time!

And while you're there, consider becoming a member at the $5 or above level so you can get access to Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive show. The latest episode sees us go almost four hours on Spider-Man: No Way Home!

HAWKEYE: "Ronin"17 Dec 202101:40:02

What's the story with this show? Why is it so good? And why does it have to end next week? We're not ready to say goodbye... especially after the big reveal at the end of Ronin. Plus, this episode is going to do for box mac and cheese what The Avengers did for shawarma.

We have limited news this week, at least partially because we are diligently avoiding spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home and trying not to cover too many of the news breaks coming out of that junket out of respect for you guys. We will be doing an episode of Watch Men about this movie that will hit next week, and it will be spoilers out the web-shooters, so make sure you're signed up at the $5 or above levels at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha to get that episode!

See you here again next week for the finale of Hawkeye, and then it's going to be quiet on the MCU TV front for a minute. But don't fret - we will be back in January with Peacemaker. Yes, we're hopping universes! Deal with it!

HAWKEYE: "Partners, Am I Right?"10 Dec 202101:51:09

This week on Marvelvision we ask the important questions, like: Is Vera Farmiga actually playing The Kingpin? Is Hawkeye the best Marvel TV show so far? Wait, does Kate have the dog with her at her mom's house? Was a scene or Kate learning to pick locks cut from episode one? What the hell is Letitia Wright thinking? And more!

We have a bit of lengthy intro this week, complete with a sidetrack into the history of Malibu Comics and its Ultraverse (which actually is Marvel related, believe it or not) and plenty of news. If you're not feeling the intro, skip to 39:34 and get ready to go deep on the latest shenanigans of our favorite archer duo.

Coming soon: the Watch Men episode about Spider-Man: No Way Home. It'll be available only to $5 and above subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. What are you waiting for?

THE BOYS Season 4 Episodes 1. 2 & 317 Jun 202402:37:01

Welcome back to Marvelvision! As we wait for new Marvel stuff to make its way to us we are branching out a bit to cover season four of the hit Amazon Prime show The Boys. This show is based on a comic book that both of deeply dislike, but we have very much enjoyed the series to date, and the fourth season appears to continue a good - if slightly repetitive - streak.

The first three episodes are The Department of Dirty TricksLife Among the Septics and We'll Keep the Red Flag Flying Here, and they contain the expected mix of filthiness, ultraviolence and on-the-nose satire we have come to expect from the show.

But first we have to catch up with news in the world of comic book movies and TV shows, including the latest Superman casting and the continuing turmoil of Blade. If you prefer to get right to The Boys skip ahead to 38:53.

Come join us at the Patreon! There you can listen to our other shows, including a monthly superhero deep dive podcast, Watch Men. Also get access to our Discord! Come hang out!

Thanks for listening.

HAWKEYE: "Echoes"03 Dec 202101:25:40

Spoiler alert: this week's Hawkeye is excellent. Really just a great time, and it offers a lot to discuss. Stuff like: wait, is that the Kingpin? Wow, why haven't any of the movies made Hawkeye's arrows this fun? And can you believe this one scene made Derek cry?

In the intro we have some Marvel news, some of it very big! Spider-Man stays in the MCU for three more films, which might be spoilery for No Way Home but honestly we didn't need that weight on our shoulders in 2021. If you don't care about news, skip to 24:00.

We have three more episodes of Hawkeye and we are very excited for them - here's hoping this show sticks the landing.

We also have an episode of Watch Men coming up. That's our monthly superhero movie deep dive show where we go long on a new movie. December's episode will be Spider-Man: No Way Home. That's available only to subscribers at the $5 and above level, so head to www.patreon.com/cinemasangha to get in the loop! Go listen to our almost four hour long Eternals episode!

HAWKEYE: "Never Meet Your Heroes" and "Hide and Seek"26 Nov 202102:03:37

It's a new Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show! Hawkeye has debuted on Disney+ and we are here to tell you... it's pretty damn good! Is that a spoiler for our podcast?

This episode we talk about whether Kate Bishop is a Chevy Chase or a Bill Murray or both, we marvel at some of the best writing in the MCU TVverse, we try and figure out when the MCU is, we try and figure out how long it would take a firefighter to go from a fire to posting an Instagram story and we dive into a couple of Easter Eggs both obvious (is that a nod to Tigra?) but also really obscure (we actually had to look one up).

Plus: our shortest news intro ever, because we just did a whole hour long episode all about the news.

Hawkeye continues next week on this podcast; check out www.patreon.com/cinemasangha for our other podcast about superheroes, Watch Men. The last episode was almost four hours on Eternals! The next episode will be about Spider-Man: No Way Home! Get a subscription now and enjoy all the episodes!

Newsbreak: NO WAY HOME, SHE-HULK, MOON KNIGHT, ECHO and more!21 Nov 202100:59:48

We interrupt this hiatus to bring you a Marvel Studios news break! We're supposed to be back in a week to talk about Hawkeye, but there was a lot of news in the past few days, much of it coming from Disney+ Day, so we convened for this emergency ep. We needed to get all this news out of the way so that the first Hawkeye episode (which will cover two episodes of that show) isn't four hours long.

So we got on the horn to talk about Disney+ Day's various reveals, to clumsily try and sneak around Echo spoilers, we break down the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, and we talk about the great Delroy Lindo and do that magic thing where we look shit up on Google as we record the episode

See you next week for Hawkeye!

THE INCREDIBLE HULK RETURNS12 Nov 202101:56:06

We're between MCU shows so this week we deep back into ancient Marvel TV history with this spectacular superhero team-up TV movie that first aired in 1988. A reunion for the beloved The incredible Hulk series, The Incredible Hulk sees David Bruce Banner/The Hulk meet up with Thor and have little to no adventures and eventually become tangentially involved in some kind of heist thing.

This episode we cover a bunch of Marvel news (we've been on hiatus a minute), including the latest Black Panther 2 woes, Everybody Hates Chris (Pratt), Marvel movies at home in... IMAX?... and more. If you don't care about this stuff, skip to 44:45, where the Incredible Hulk Returns discussion starts.

By the way, in case you're wondering about our personal Incredible Hulk histories, here's a picture of Derek dressed as the Hulk for Halloween in the 80s.

If you like listening to us talk about Marvel stuff, consider joining the Patreon at the $5 or above level and get yourself access to Watch Men, our monthly superhero movie deep dive podcast. The latest episode is THREE HOURS AND FORTY FIVE MINUTES about Eternals. You get your money's worth.

Thanks for listening! See you again in a few weeks for Hawkeye

Untitled Episode18 Oct 202101:32:24
"WHAT IF... The Watcher Broke His Oath?"08 Oct 202101:51:36

Ol' Babyhead is pulling a Nick Fury and is bringing together characters we met all season (and also one we didn't meet yet, and Derek explains why that is) to fight the powered up Ultron from last episode. Was all the build up worth it? Does it pay off? Why don't the live action movies have action scenes like the ones on this show?

It's the season finale of What If...? and we discuss the journey so far and also the action-packed episode in front of us. Plus: lots of news, including a vital Black Widow deleted scene and an Agatha Harkness TV show. Plus we discover the intriguing connection between the Pet Shop Boys and Marvel. Of course, as always, you can skip that by just going to 40 minutes on your podapp.

We're gonna take a week off and then we'll be back with an episode about The Incredible Hulk Returns, the TV movie sequel to the 70s The Incredible Hulk TV show. We could do that on our Watch Men superhero movie podcast, but we feel that TV movies belong on TV podcasts.

Speaking of which, we'll have an episode of Watch Men about Venom: Let There Be Carnage in a couple of days. You can only hear us talking about Marvel movies on that podcast, which is only available to $5 and above subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. Sign up now!

"WHAT IF... Ultron Won?"04 Oct 202101:35:09

This one's a little late because Devin had the temerity to take a vacation. Sorry about that! But we're back, and we're talking about such Marvel topics as Malignant and James Gunn's DC projects... but also stuff like The Eternals, Venom 2's opening weekend and the pundits who declared theaters and superhero films dead, and how the Spider-Verse and the MCU might come together.

If you don't want to hear all of that, skip to 36:44 where we start discussing the penultimate episode of What If...? season one, What If... Ultron Won? This episode brings us to a world where Ultron has wiped out most life in the universe and he begins setting his sights on other realities... and only Uatu, aka Ol' Babyhead, might be able to stop him. But he has taken a vow of non-interference! What will happen? You'll have to watch (and listen) to find out.

Is this the most anime episode yet? Is What If...? the worst Marvel thing so far? Are Nat and Clint the last humans alive on Earth? All of this and more on the latest episode of Marvelvision!

If you want to hear us talking about Marvel movies, you gotta become a subscriber at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. Subscribers at the $5 and above level get Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast and this month we'll be talking about Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage!

"WHAT IF... Thor Were An Only Child?"24 Sep 202101:39:26

This episode gives us a switcheroo - not only is a comedy episode of What If...?, your hosts swap their usual positions in terms of liking the episode. But is even the best What If...? all that good? Is this Marvel's lowest point?

Also: News! Are the X-Men getting a new name? Is it offensive that Chris Pratt is playing Mario? Does anyone else remember this Mario Cantone WWOR TV show from the late 80s? Probably not, but we'll blow a few minutes on it!

Jump to 40:28 if you want to skip all the intro stuff.

Thanks for listening! If you like this, check out our other podcasts: The Bad Batch and Watch Men, available only to subscribers at Patreon

"WHAT IF... Killmonger Saved Tony Stark?"17 Sep 202101:31:41

Is this the best episode of What If...? or the worst? What about both? And is the very concept of What If...? flying over the heads of some people online?

Before we get to the details about Killmonger saving Tony Stark's life in Afghanistan, we go on a very long diversion into Devin's recent eyeball issues. If you want to skip that, go to 16:40 to begin the news, including Denis Villeneueve shit-talking the MCU. If you don't want the eyeballs or the news (including the Hawkeye trailer), go to 37:45.

Thanks for listening! If you want to hear us talking about the MCU movies, the only place that happens is on our subscriber podcast, Watch Men. It's available to $5 and above subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. Sign up now and listen to our three hour episode about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings!

"WHAT IF... Zombies?!"11 Sep 202101:31:25

The MCU gets gory in the latest episode of What If...?, streaming directly next to Luca and Mary Poppins. It's wild!

But is it good? This week your valiant hosts disagree, but that's half the fun. They also talk about Titans, which is not a Marvel Cinematic Universe property, they talk about the canceled New Warriors show, and they talk about how many jokes is too many jokes in an MCU thing.

Wondering where all the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings discussion is? It's on our superhero movie deep dive podcast, Watch Men! We did three solid hours on Shang-Chi and it's only available to subscribers at the $5 and above level. Go to www.patreon.com/cinemasangha to sign up and get listening!

All By Myself: THE FALL GUY and CHALLENGERS31 May 202400:45:58

Derek is off on vacation this week so I took to the mic solo to talk about some movies I have seen recently. I go into The Fall Guy and Challengers, featuring some spoilers about Challengers, and along the way touch on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Tangerine, among other stuff.

Derek is returning to the United States right now so we will be back with regularly scheduled programming soon; our next episode of any podcast will be for our Star Wars show, The Bad Batch, where we'll cover the two part season opener of The Acolyte. If you want to hear that you must be a member at the $1 or above level on our Patreon so hit www. patreon.com/cinemasangha!

Thanks for listening.

"WHAT IF... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead Of His Hands?"04 Sep 202101:10:50

The alternate reality train keeps on going as the latest What If...? asks us "What if we remembered what Rachel McAdams was doing in the first Doctor Strange movie?" It's a big ask.

This episode we got you some Marvel news, but also Devin recommends a Quibi show called Murder House Flip that is actually real even though it sounds like a joke. Yes, it's a show where they do makeovers of houses where murders happened. Skip to 19:46 to get past all this juicy excellence and go right to the discussion of What If...?.

This week we dive deep into just how much anybody is supposed to remember from the first Doctor Strange and whether or not it would get boring to watch the Avengers get killed week in and week out. Also: is this episode a prequel to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and has this episode introduced a character we will see in live action next year? Listen to find out!

Thanks for listening, and if you want to hear us talk about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings you will only be able to hear that on the Patreon feed. It'll be on our monthly superhero deep dive show Watch Men, and it's available only to subscribers at the $5 and above levels. Join now at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha!

"WHAT IF... The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes?"27 Aug 202101:44:37

This week's episode of What If...? finally gets the deaths going, and it's in the service of a mystery: who's knocking off Earth's Mightiest Heroes? Is it a good one? We think so!

The actual Marvelvision podcast is a bit loose this week. We have a dog interruption, Derek talks about why his water is not running, we go very long on the news, there's a new Spider-Man trailer to discuss, Devin once again tells his story about Mark Hamill confirming one of his most derided scoops and there's also a discussion of Identity Crisis, maybe the worst ever comic book event series, and one which sort of echoes this week's What If...?.

If you want to skip the news and the trivia, jump to 45:06 (told ya it was loose this week). But you'll be missing some of the best stuff!

In the coming days subscribers at the Patreon will get not only new episodes of The Bad Batch, our Star Wars TV show podcast, but also a new episode of Watch Men, our superhero movie deep dive show, where we'll be covering Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. If you're interested in hearing us talk about the MCU movies, Watch Men is the only place for it!

"WHAT IF... T'Challa Became A Star-Lord?"20 Aug 202101:37:47

So what do you even want out of a show called What If...? ? This is a driving element of this episode of Marvelvision as we debate what a show with this name and comic book legacy should be delivering.

The latest episode of What If...? delivers a T'Challa focused story that also ends up being Chadwick Boseman's final (maybe? Could he be in more episodes?) performance as the Wakandan king. It's a very bittersweet thing, as the whole focus of the episode is on how good and noble the character - and by the entertainment transitive property - the actor is.

Before that we got a huge news dump, including early reactions to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, a new Eternals trailer, no new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer and more. It's a long intro, so if you're one of those "no intro please, we're British" households skip right to 38:00.

If you like this show you might like our other shows: The Bad Batch, a weekly Star Wars TV show podcast and Watch Men, a monthly superhero deep-dive show that runs even longer than these godforsakenly long shows! They're both available only to subscribers at the Patreon - www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. Join now!

We'll see you next week for yet more What If...?!
