Will Henshall: Transform Distraction into Peak Focus with Functional Music05 Jun 202501:03:33
Do you find yourself more distracted than ever?

You’re not alone. In the rapid-fire, hyper-connected, dopamine-driven modern world, harnessing true focus is a rare superpower…

But understanding the subtle mechanics of human attention might just be the most valuable skill in our increasingly distracted world.

Today, we're exploring the extraordinary work of Will Henshall - a guy who doesn't just create music, but deconstructs how sound interacts with our neurological operating system. Will is a musician, inventor, and entrepreneur who went from writing global #1 hit songs to reverse-engineering human focus like it's a complex guitar solo.

It's not about talent. It's about seeing the world from a unique and different perspective - and having the guts to build something when everyone else says it can't be done.

In this episode, you’ll discover:
  • Why different brain types require unique sonic approaches to maintain concentration, especially if you have ADHD
  • How to choose music to aid focus, flow, and productivity based on your brain type
  • Why AI and generative art can't replicate the emotional power of live human creativity and performance
  • And much more…
Abel James explores the fascinating intersection of music, technology, and entrepreneurship with guest Will Henshall. Will, a musician turned inventor, shares his journey from writing global hit songs with the band London Beat to founding Focus at Will, a music streaming service designed to enhance concentration. The conversation delves into the science of human attention, the role of music in productivity, and how different brain types require unique sonic approaches to maintain focus. Will also discusses the entrepreneurial mindset, emphasizing the importance of seeing opportunities where others see obstacles and the relentless pursuit of one's purpose.

The discussion further explores the impact of AI on creativity, the irreplaceable emotional power of live human performance, and the potential renaissance of live music in a digital age. Will shares insights into his work with the METAL MEN group, highlighting the value of community and collaboration among like-minded individuals. The episode offers a rich tapestry of ideas on how music and technology can be harnessed to improve focus and productivity, while also celebrating the timeless magic of human creativity and connection.

Robb Wolf: Are Cows Really Killing the Planet? (Hint: No, They’re Not)28 May 202100:59:08

Mainstream media loves to smear red meat as unhealthy and disastrous for the environment.

But are cow farts really killing the planet or is that just a ploy to get you to buy fake meat products?

Would the fields behind my childhood home in New Hampshire, for example, really be better off without our happy backyard cows?

Would the ranches and wildlife reserves here in Colorado, replete with buffalo, elk, yak, pronghorn, cattle and mule deer, really be more environmentally-friendly if we simply got rid of all these dirty, burping, polluting animals?

The answer isn't quite as simple as the media mavens, climate alarmists and billionaires would lead you to believe.

In an age of sprawling chemical-laden monocrops and fake meat, science is being confounded and abused.

Especially with supply chains catastrophically breaking down across the world, shouldn't we be reducing external chemical inputs and focus instead on becoming more self-reliant?

When we treat nature with respect, both animals and plants can heal the soil and the land as part of a thriving symbiotic ecosystem.

And to help separate truth from propaganda, today we're back with our friend, the one and only Robb Wolf.

Robb is a former research biochemist, powerlifting champion, New York Times best-selling author of several titles, including “The Paleo Solution,” “Wired To Eat,” and his newest book co-authored with Diana Rogers is called “Sacred Cow.”

Robb has functioned as a review editor for the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, as a consultant for the Naval Special Warfare Resiliency Program, and serves on the board of directors for a number of innovative start ups with a focus on health and sustainability.

You're going to dig this show, we're chatting about:

  • Why the sacred cow is a gift from Mother Nature
  • The nutritional quality of pasture-raised meat vs fake meat
  • The importance of soil biodiversity
  • Why we should reduce synthetic chemical-based farming and get back in touch with natural cycles
  • How food manufacturers are capitalizing on our good intentions to peddle their ultra processed artificial products
  • The importance of protein as a macronutrient
  • And tons more...

Kara Collier: How to Use Technology to Quantify Health & Improve Habits30 Apr 202100:54:24

Have you ever tried measuring your blood glucose?

There's never been a better time to use cutting edge technology to quantify and optimize your health.

But instead of jumping straight into invasive dystopian technology like brain implants (turning us into the borg), we can actually use tech as a tool to improve our habits.

It doesn't have to be overly complicated, and it's quickly becoming easier and cheaper to track heart rate variability, sleep quality, fitness, blood sugar, and much more.

And what's most important is how we use our data to modify our daily practices.

So joining us on the show today is Kara Collier, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, and the Director of Nutrition at NutriSense where she's also a leading authority on the use of continuous glucose monitoring or CGM technology.

On this show with Kara Collier, we're chatting about:

  • How to use technology as a tool to quantify and optimize your health
  • The benefits of tracking blood sugar with a continuous glucose monitor (CGM)
  • Why you're stealing energy from the next day when you have that ice cream or extra booze late at night
  • Why drinking oat milk is almost as bad as sugar-laden soda once it hits your bloodstream
  • How stress impacts blood glucose levels (and what to do about it)
  • Why it's a good idea to test your blood glucose after eating manufactured keto products
  • And tons more...

Doug Bopst: How to Use Adversity to Your Advantage12 Mar 202100:57:57

What's the difference between being in lockdown and being in jail? The answer from today's guest will surprise you.

Today I'm grateful to be here with my new friend, Doug Bopst. Doug is a personal trainer, author of 3 books, and host of The Adversity Advantage podcast.

Doug has a unique perspective as someone who actually spent time in jail—a former convicted felon and drug addict, Doug made the best of his time in jail to discover fitness and reinvent himself.

When you're looking around in these challenging circumstances the past year or so, a lot of people are getting weaker or they're getting broken, they're letting things get to them. And then a small minority of folks are actually getting stronger because of this, they're getting into dojo mode and getting disciplined.

Doug has a lot of interesting perspectives on how we can get out to the other side of all these challenging times even stronger than we would have otherwise been.

Doug's story was featured in a documentary film called From Felony to Fitness to Free and as of this year, he's now 12 years sober. So congratulations to Doug!

You're going to dig this show. We're chatting about:

  • The surprising difference between being in jail and being under lockdown
  • How to funnel addictive behavior into something positive
  • How to use fitness as a catalyst for change in your life
  • And tons more...

Do you have any bad habits? Why is it that sometimes we find ourselves repeating undesirable behaviors despite our best attempts to change?

Well, in an age when our communication has been degraded to typing with our thumbs and screaming into silly smart devices, human relationships it seems, are suddenly in jeopardy.

If you've ever been derailed by your inner monkey or dealt with existential angst, this show is for you.

Returning to the podcast today is one of my favorite people to talk to, Loretta Breuning, PhD. She's a professor, best-selling author, host of the Happy Brain Podcast and founder of The Inner Mammal Institute.

Does intermittent fasting actually work?

As many of you know, I’ve been practicing various forms of fasting for nearly a decade now, but does it really work for everyone? Does it work for no one? Does it work for women, men, and anyone in between?

There's so much information, disinformation, misinformation and content overload when it comes to fasting, when it comes to eating, diet, nutrition. It can be tough to make sense of it all.

But we do have the perfect guest for you here today—the wonderful Cynthia Thurlow, a nurse practitioner for 20+ years, entrepreneur, functional nutritionist, Tedx speaker, host of the Everyday Wellness podcast, and the CEO and founder of the Everyday Wellness Project.

Shawn Stevenson: How Subsidized Foods are Fattening America01 Jan 202101:42:44

Should we be prohibited from asking questions?

If we lose the ability and right to speak, ask questions, to think for ourselves, to have sovereignty over our bodies and lives... we are on a precarious path indeed.

With more of us obese, overweight and diseased than ever before, it's the very governments and corporations silencing us and ordering us around that got us here in the first place.

As we're being told what to believe, many of us are being censored, shadowbanned, or even de-platformed - apparently just for thinking for ourselves.

How many times do governments, politicians and mega corporations have to exploit us before we get a clue?

If you look at history, you can see where this goes, and it's not pretty. So we have a spicy episode for you here today.

Returning to the show is our dear friend, Shawn Stevenson, speaker, host of the #1 ranked podcast The Model Health Show, and bestselling author of “Sleep Smarter” and the brand spanking new book “Eat Smarter”.

Shawn graduated from The University of Missouri–St. Louis with a background in biology and kinesiology, and founded the Advanced Integrative Health Alliance which provides wellness services to individuals and organizations worldwide.

You're going to like this one. Shawn definitely takes the gloves off a little bit. It’s a great conversation. I hope you dig it.

We're chatting about...

  • Why it's worth it to have higher standards for what you're eating
  • How subsidized foods are fattening America
  • Why it's important that people don't skip over balance in the diet
  • How to share love through home cooked meals
  • Why we should prioritize prevention over medical intervention
  • The importance of diversity in our gut microbiome
  • And much more...

Marion “Nan” Bascom: Love & Wisdom Straight from My Grandmother25 Dec 202001:17:32

How do you make ends meet when you're as poor as church mice?

Today, we have a very special show for you.

When I first started this show about 10 years ago now, I bought a cheap video camera and I decided to go to my grandmother Nan's house and interview her… she's just about my favorite person in the universe.

And as many of you know, Nan's wisdom runs throughout my work—this podcast, of course, my blog with all recipes that we have, and especially The Wild Diet—you'll find lots of Nan in The Wild Diet.

But who is Nan, anyway?

Well, Marion Bascom, affectionately known as Nan, was a nurse, a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and a city girl who married my grandfather, Horace, a dairy farmer, and then took on the challenges of tending to an organic veggie garden, dairy farm and homestead while raising 7 children.

After living for almost a century, Nan passed away this year at 97 years old. I'm very happy, though, to be able to share her wisdom with you here today, especially now.

I didn't know exactly what I'd be doing with the interview with Nan all those years ago. She's technically going to be my first video interview on this show. It’s very cool, and I'm really happy to share it with you.

We could all benefit from listening to some wisdom from a grandmother right now, don't you think?

Get ready to smile, you're going to love this one.

So in this conversation with my grandmother, Marion Bascom, we're chatting about:

  • Incredible stories from raising 7 children on a farm with almost no money
  • The low cost of food when you grow it yourself
  • Family meals, gardening, canning and foraging for wild edibles behind the house
  • What Nan did when she thought one of the kids was on drugs
  • How to make homemade bread, ice cream, yogurt, jellies and pickles… she even made her own root beer
  • Nan’s secret to a good long life
  • And tons more…

Colin Stuckert: How to Counter Fragility & Take The Path of Most Resistance30 Oct 202001:09:57

Are we being mind controlled?

What's wrong with a sterilized culture, where speaking out against the status quo gets you shadow-banned and censored across platforms?

When free speech and free expression on all sides are egregiously squashed by unelected technocratic powers with zero accountability, it's clear someone is trying to influence or control the conversation.

That's why it's more important than ever to do your homework and think for yourself, especially when your health is concerned. You have to take on that responsibility.

And joining us today is the perfect guest to talk through some spicy and timely topics, our friend and fellow podcaster, writer and founder of Wild Foods, Colin Stuckert.

We need all the good people we can get to make it through this circus with our health and sanity intact. Colin is doing great work and I'm honored that our messages and businesses are so aligned.

On this show with Colin Stuckert, where we're chatting about:

  • The dangers of sterilizing culture
  • What we can learn from looking to nomadic hunter-gatherer cultures
  • Strategies for improving your mood that cost no money
  • How to navigate difficult situations by joining together as a community
  • How to counteract fragility through lifestyle
  • Benefits of taking the path of most resistance
  • And tons more...

Todd White: Biodynamic Wine, Bartering & Social Media Burnout23 Oct 202001:10:33

What's worth more? A $20 bill or a bottle of wine?

In a pinch, I've realized real world pleasures like wine can be worth more than cold hard cash.

With rising food inflation and obvious issues with our supply chains, it's a good time to make sure you're stocked up on provisions for whatever life throws at you.

Which is why, even if you don't drink or you're not drinking right now, having a supply of high quality biodynamic natural wines can be a worthy alternative investment. (Hey there legal eagles, this is not investment advice.)

When a friend recently turned down payment in the form of money—actually a couple of crisp $20 bills, he just would not take them—but he gladly accepted our bottle of wine.

And that just reinforced the notion that having a diversity of items available to barter and trade could come in mighty handy in the future that we're facing.

So returning to the show today is our very good friend, Todd White.

Todd is a serial entrepreneur, writer, speaker, and founder of our all-time favorite supplier of natural biodynamic and organic wines, Dry Farm Wines.

After 15 years in the wine business, Todd's life is dedicated to educating and helping people make better choices about food, nutrition and how they think about consuming alcohol.

We're getting into some fun and interesting topics on today's show, including:

  • How social interaction with friends, family and the community is a nutrient that we all need
  • Daily practices like gratitude, meditation and fitness at home
  • How to spread love and inspire each other, especially in workplace environments
  • Social media and fake news burnout
  • Why it's cool to barter with gifts from the land
  • And tons more…

Amy Morin: Mental Strength & How To Face Your Fears11 Sep 202000:57:00

Ever since the world shut down, crippling small businesses, decimating communities and filling us all with fears of certain death, the response from politicians and world government has been disturbingly inadequate, to say the least.

Instead of educating the public on how to strengthen our immune system, politicians have preyed on people's fears, divided us, locked us inside, forced us all to cover our faces with cloth, and socially distance all the while.

But there's a big difference between socially distancing and physically distancing.

I'm beginning to feel that this choice of words was not an accident.

Also used as a form of torture, social distancing and isolation—especially combined with too much social media and screen time—destroys our relationships and damages our mental health.

Living in a constant state of anxiety and fear is just about the worst possible thing for our health and well-being.

When our mental health suffers our physical health falls apart. And at some point, we'll all have to acknowledge that mental health actually matters.

So we'll talk in this show today about how to deal with all of these crazy feelings that we may or may not be experiencing right now.

Today, we're here with Amy Morin, a psychotherapist, psychology lecturer, licensed clinical social worker, and author who’s now on her 4th book.

Amy’s TEDx talk, The Secret of Becoming Mentally Strong, is one of the most popular talks of all time with more than 14 million views.

And Amy’s new podcast “Mentally Strong People” will be coming to you live from her floating podcast studio in the Florida Keys, where she lives on a sailboat!

If you're looking to build your mental strength and fortitude, this is the episode for you.

On today’s show with Amy Morin we're discussing…

  • Specific mental strength exercises to manage your emotions, regulate your thoughts and take more productive action
  • How to train your brain for happiness and success
  • Facing your fears and taking back your power
  • How to raise self-assured children
  • And tons more...

I do my best to hop outside when weather permits, just about every day to catch the sunrise. Since I started this practice years ago, I have not stopped. And you're about to learn why.

Today we're here with Matt Maruca, a researcher, entrepreneur and educator in the fields of photobiology, mitochondria and optimal human health.

Matt is the founder of Ra Optics, a company that teaches people about the risks of the indoor, sun-deficient tech-based lifestyle, and provides blue light protection lenses to mitigate the risks associated with spending so much time indoors.

On today’s show we’re talking about:

  • How to reset your circadian rhythm with light
  • The dangers of EMF pollution
  • Why the sun is like a free multivitamin in the sky
  • How light, especially red and infrared light, impacts your mitochondria
  • And tons more…
