| Claudia D. from AA Solution Seekers | 24 Nov 2024 | 00:33:43 | |
#courage #predatorslurk #theunderbellyofAA #thereishope In this powerful and deeply moving episode, Claudia D. shares her courageous journey from the grips of alcoholism to the freedom of recovery. When I first met Claudia, she was a quiet observer at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, but that changed when she asked me to sponsor her. Claudia’s story goes beyond recovery from alcohol; it’s a tale of resilience against manipulation and abuse. While AA offers a life-saving solution to alcoholism, Claudia bravely sheds light on a darker side—the predators who exploit vulnerable members in the program. She recounts her experience with an online group (originally it was called The Joy of Living out of Texas, but eventually that group would kick this predator out. Sadly he just started another online hunting ground called..), “A New Happiness,” run by a manipulative individual by the name of Richard and his enablers, and her ultimate triumph over their toxic influence. Through her faith in a higher power and the principles of AA, Claudia not only found recovery from the disease of alcoholism but also reclaimed her life from the grips of deceit and control of a sick man. This episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking hope, healing, and a reminder of the strength it takes to overcome not only addiction but the harmful actions of others.
If you or anyone you know in A.A. is getting mixed messages remember some of our famous slogans "secrets keep us sick". Alcoholics Anonymous has amazing resources on the world service website www.aa.org where you can find a helpful pamphlet on What Sponsorship is and ISN'T. If a sponsor tells you to keep something secret, that's a sign something is wrong, trust your gut, speak up, change sponsors and find another group. And remember that Anonymity is not a cloak that covers unsafe or illegal behaviour, read the aa Safety Card for more info.

| Lisa speaks at one of Toronto's oldest AA groups The Beaches group | 18 Oct 2024 | 00:22:36 | |
Today my dear friend Sarah C from the Beaches Group in Toronto celebrates 9 years of continuous sobriety and a changed way of living. I thought the talk I gave at the home group I "made her" join when she moved to a different part of the city would be a good way to honor her commitment to this way of living.
She always jokes about how I give her orders or make her do things, then she expresses gratitude for listening because everything I've ever suggested was nothing more or less than what I had to do myself to get and maintain my sobriety. She also loves to tell the story to anyone who works with me how easy they have it, for when she started working with me she wanted to be my friend and I told her one day "I'm not here to be your fucking friend Sarah! I'm here to help save your fucking life." It was this way for me too. My sponsor got frustrated with my balking and whining about life one day and said "your thoughts and feelings are what's wrong with you Lisa so why don't we put them on a shelf for now. I'm not here to be your therapist and I'm not here to be your fucking friend. I have to care more about saving your life than whether or not you like me or I hurt your feelings." It made sense that my sponsor had done more to help me than any friend ever could, by the very fact that he wasn't motivated by keeping a friendship alive but instead motivated by keeping ME alive.
In learning to sponsor this way, Sarah and I have become the closest of friends. We have learned that Iron sharpens Iron and a true friend doesn't just agree or co-sign another's bullshit.

It might not be AA approved literature but I can't recommend this little gem enough especially when it comes to a deeper understanding of steps 6 through 8!

| AA Solution Seekers speaker V from Predawn busters Atlanta group sept 29, 2024 | 07 Oct 2024 | 00:38:40 | |
I've personally known V for a while now. She was a long time listener of 2 sober chicks and would often write us. It was so nice she reached out when I started this new show. She is one of us and today talks about a number of things many of us can relate to along this journey to recovery: the past and how it affected us; present struggles like mental health issues and how AA has taught us these are valid but they are NOT excuses or reasons to not recover; and ghosting a sponsor....who hasn't done that to our own peril at least once on this journey?
I hope you enjoy her story as an impromptu speaker who answered the call when a speaker was needed.
thank you V (sparkles).

This was my first time being asked to speak at a roundup. It was so much fun to travel outside of my area and visit another area to carry the message. It would be this speaking engagement that lead to my invite to Peurta Vallarta Sobriety Under the Sun Conference. #SUS
I don't consider this one of my best talks, but someone in the audience heard a message that spoke to him. He was on that speaker seeker committee and he submitted my tape.

| Ep 32 Big Book Study | 20 Nov 2024 | 00:58:48 | |
This episode sounds like we are in a hall...because we were in a party room together and online!
We picked up where we left off talking about Step 10 and Step 11. Today we are on page 86 half way down the page it begins "On awakening..". The beautiful essence of Step 10 and 11 is that we are developing a daily conscious contact with a power greater than ourselves. When we tap into this never ending resource of ultimate power, we can meet any challenge and face life's demands and remain sober and emotionally balanced.

| Karolina from the UK | 12 Sep 2024 | 00:44:55 | |
Another special one for me, this little gem of a human lives an ocean away from me and yet we connect through the language of the heart. Karolina originated from Poland and has made a life in her home of London in the United Kingdom. She is sober just over 3 years, active in service and sponsors women. She found her true self on page 63 of the big book and has been sky rocketed into the fourth dimension of existence having incorporated the book's wisdom into her daily life.
She is one of those friends in my life that I regard as a sharpening instrument put in my path by God's grace. Iron sharpens Iron.
This is her story.

A bunch of my female friends join me on a discussion on safety in the rooms of AA.
Some tips to bring to your home group: SAFETY CARD FOR A.A. GROUPS_EN (aa.org) Read the safety card at every meeting Read AA's info on Safety SMF-209 - Safety and A.A.: Our Common Welfare (aa.org) Read the pamphlet on Sponsorship P-15 Questions & Answers on Sponsorship (aa.org)
Protect yourself from predators...Trust your gut, if it feels wrong, it probably is. Secrets keep us sick...If someone in a group is asking you not to tell others what they are asking of you...it's probably because they know it is wrong. Tell others, seek support and KNOW THAT ANONYMITY IS NOT A CLOAK FOR BAD, ABUSIVE OR ILLEGAL BEHAVIOUR.

| Danny Survivor of 911, Firefighter at the world trade center, an Alcoholic | 11 Sep 2024 | 00:38:51 | |
My sponsor introduced me to one of her hero's, Danny the Firefighter. I loved his gentle nature, I could relate to his struggle with the inner demons of this disease and the battle with the mental health scorpion known as PTSD.
Danny has given a talk on our show before, this is the one where he reveals his experience as a fire fighter at the world trade center on that terrible day on the 9th of September when North America was rocked by an act that brought us all to our knees. War is a crusher of souls, dignity and decency. It is the ultimate act of selfish, self-centered behaviour, ego and arrogance. When people take opposing sides and both believe they are right.
Danny was a first responder who had been sober for 2 decades before this tragic day added another burden to his plate. I don't think he ever saw himself as the hero he was, he was "just doing his job".
This is his story.
And we miss him.

| Big Book Study continues with Into Action | 10 Sep 2024 | 01:02:13 | |
Today we continue from the bottom of page 73 into midway of page 75 of the chapter Into Action. Sometimes in a big book study you will find you don't further than a few lines, a couple paragraphs. The main idea to remember is always IDENTIFICATION. Reading the big book with another alcoholic who got sober before us is the taproot of our shared experience and understanding our disease.
I hope if you identify with the thoughts, feelings and behaviours found in the book, you stay long enough to see light at the end of the tunnel and a way into joyous, sober solution based living!

| Karen R - author of the chapter The River of Denial in the 4th edition Big Book | 09 Sep 2024 | 00:45:01 | |
We seem to get the most amazing selection of speakers at A.A. Solution Seekers. How do we do that? One, I've noticed a lot of meetings online have forgotten about the Open Speaker meeting. Two, we are blessed with a long timer who just knows a ton of speakers from decades of hanging around AA. Three, our home group has a ton of new and old experience who all live in the solution. Four, one of my sponsee's chairs an online meeting called One Day at a Time out of the U.K. and she has connected with amazing speakers from around the world and shares them with us.
That's how we were blessed to have Karen R come and share her story with us live on a Sunday at 7am. Karen's story can be found in the 4th edition of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. It is called The River of Denial.

| A woman 30 years sober | 01 Sep 2024 | 00:43:17 | |
This is my sponsor. You will fall in love with her. I will have to Dexter you...but Don't Worry...God will make me realize that's a bad idea. :)
Today my sponsor Celebrates 30 years sobriety. Some people say "Don't drink and don't die and you too can stay sober this long." But there is more to it than that. It's called surrender to God, willingness, action, labour, perserverance, deflation of ego, humility...and a constant quest to be better today than you were tomorrow as you seek to do God's will in this world. For that I salute her and others like her.
We don't have many old timers left these days.

| It all comes down to you and God | 08 Nov 2024 | 00:27:27 | |
I thought I would share some of the simple prayers that can be found right in the Big Book and the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. I also share a few others that have helped me along the way.
The bottom line in my recovery is this...God is either everything or God is nothing....which is it? I had to make a decision. Was I willing to believe or not. This is what they call the turning point, the jumping off place. I can't really move forward until I take this step.
I went from disbelief to belief with the act of willingness. I started to pray long before I believed in anything. I just knew, my way had not been working.
I hope this helps you.
Love and Light Lisa

| Unlocking Emotional Sobriety: Insights from Bill Wilson's Letters | 22 Aug 2024 | 00:23:03 | |
Hi, I'm Lisa, and welcome to a Shotglass of Recovery. In this episode, we dive into one of Bill Wilson's profound letters published in The Grapevine in January 1958, titled "The Next Frontier: Emotional Sobriety." Join me as I read and reflect on Bill's insights about emotional maturity and balance, drawn from his own experiences and struggles in early sobriety. We'll explore the challenges faced by long-time AA members who, despite achieving sobriety, often still grapple with emotional well-being. Bill Wilson's candid discussion on the necessity of ongoing spiritual and emotional work highlights the importance of humility, self-awareness, and the continuous effort to overcome dependencies and unrealistic demands on others. Listen in as I share personal anecdotes and insights, emphasizing the significance of maintaining emotional sobriety through the principles of AA and the teachings of the 12 Steps. This episode is a heartfelt reminder that true recovery involves not just abstaining from alcohol, but also achieving peace and balance within oneself.

| The Vulnerability Challenge: Embracing Simple Yet Difficult Steps in Recovery | 20 Aug 2024 | 00:07:07 | |
Welcome to "Shotglass of Recovery" for August 16th, hosted by Lisa. In this episode, Lisa shares her recent experience with a unique challenge she posed to her sponsees in Alcoholics Anonymous. Lisa emphasizes the importance of vulnerability in the recovery process, describing the "Vulnerability Challenge" where participants are encouraged to share daily readings from AA-approved or AA-adjacent literature. She highlights how these simple yet profound practices can foster trust and connection within the group. Through a thought-provoking quote by Dorothy Fosdick, Lisa reflects on the essence of AA: "simple but not easy." She draws parallels between the basic principles taught in AA and the fundamental lessons from kindergarten, stressing the importance of implementing these simple ideas in everyday life despite the challenges. Join Lisa as she navigates the complexities of recovery, shares her personal insights, and offers guidance on how to live life on life's terms. Tune in for a dose of inspiration and encouragement in your own recovery journey.

| 5 Incredible Solution Seeking Sober Women | 13 Aug 2024 | 00:10:20 | |
When I went to Maine to speak at their 45th Annual Round up, I had no idea how many gifts I was about to receive.
I met beautiful, sweet, soulful Mel who made this trip happen and was the organizer extraordinaire. Mel is like me in that she wears her emotions on her sleeve and is always ready for a hug.
Their was my grand sponsee, Rena. One tough cookie on the outside but inside, so deeply grateful to be one of, a part of the tribe. She just walked around soaking it all up like a sponge.
Rena's Sponsor and my sponsee Tricia. Who in spite of her fear of the outdoors, braved Maine to come hang with us all. She brings the light and laughter wherever she goes and I'm better for having met her.
Then there is April, my shy sponsee who was so nervous I had to ask her if she wanted to ask me to be her sponsor? How does she survive New York?! April is another sweet, kind being who just oozed gratitude in the whole 12 hours she was with us. That's right she drove up Saturday night. I'm so glad God deemed us destined to meet.
Finally, I got to meet my newest Sponsor, Miss Stacey...in PERSON. I feel like I'm blessed to be in the presence of what I consider AA royalty (I winced when I typed that cuz she'd probably smack me and say "don't put anyone on a pedestal but God.") She is warm, kind, the most amazing listener and makes me feel like I am the most important person in the room when we talk. She is the mother I always wished I had. (Even if that would make me Steve Martin in The Jerk).
The conference was great, but meeting these women in person was Gods true gift.

| 45th Annual Roundup in Maine, Sugarloaf - Spiritual Speaker - Lisa M | 12 Aug 2024 | 00:43:13 | |
I am grateful for my past experience and ability to be able to speak off the cuff straight from the heart. I'm grateful for my sponsor Luke who one time ripped up my cue cards right before my talk and said "This isn't a speech! We speak from the heart. Why do you need notes? Don't you know your own story?" I'm grateful people find something to resonate with and keep asking me to travel to their locations to do what I believe God wants us all to day, carry the message of Hope by sharing our stories of recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous.
I'm grateful that on this invitation I got to speak in front of a 1000 fellow AA'ers and amongst them was my sponsor, a Sponsee, a grand Sponsee and a dear friend all who travelled separately to join me in Maine so that we could meet in person for the very first time!!!
I was caught off when the chair person told me just before I began, that I'd have to cut my talk by 15 minutes. So it took me a while to get my brain on track...but eventually God stepped in and lead me to the finish.
I hope you find some Hope in there. Lisa M

| Talk of things religious is necessary | 09 Aug 2024 | 00:09:14 | |
I always try to share my experience with newcomers, especially about how I didn't know how prejudiced and closed minded I was when it came to things "religious". Most importantly I needed to look at myself and take inventory on such behaviours in order to get and stay sober.
One of the tools I used in the expansion of my mind and the opening of my heart was a meeting lead by a guy named Craig from an AA group called Primetime. They dissect the Lords' Prayer. I needed to make use of what religious people had to offer instead of being angry at the imperfections or downfalls of the humans who saw "half assing" their religious tenets and in my opinion failing miserably at it!
So I went to this meeting and it really helped me. Saturday Sermon on The Mount12:00 PM PDT ONE TOUCH LINK Meeting ID: 419-655-835 Password: primetime Audio Recorded Note: This is not an AA meeting.
May it be of some use to you as well...and if you see Craig tell him Lisa from AA Solution Seekers on the east coast, says HI.

| Jolie from the Peg | 01 Aug 2024 | 00:45:31 | |
Just one of the many gifts of a worldwide pandemic....was meeting people like Jolie from a part of my own Country I'd never visited. Jolie's sobriety date is close to one I gave up for "outside issues", it's amazing what EGO can take from us...sobriety, peace, joy, presence. I'm glad she got it when she did and shared her journey and experience to where she is at today. I love that she talked about what she called "drybriety" because it is definitely a part of our recovery journey that is not talked about enough! I've seen people with 20, 30 years sobriety behave completely against any principles that they tout in their shares about sobriety and recovery. Principles such as tolerance, patience, forgiveness, humility, letting go and letting God. When someone talks of those principles but leaves a home group in a huff because they took offence to something, that's a perfect example of Dry-briety. Saying we trust in God but only of course until something bad, challenging or unexpected happens, then they cry out, "why me god?". Dry-briety.
Jolie has got what I want. SOBRIETY and principles.

Ethan is a member of my homegroup AA Solution Seekers. He joined us from my former homegroup online which always seemed to be a place of chaos. Just goes to show that the people who seek a solution will gravitate towards like minded individuals. Ethan is a humble man who walks the walk of sobriety, he doesn't always have a lot to say and he certainly isn't the loudest in the room. But I heard a great quote that makes me think of Ethan, "When the silent man speaks the world listens.".
We are glad he found us and shares what his 3 old timers shared with him. 23 years of sobriety and a steady pace, one day at a time.

| Bruce from AA 1.0 in Florida | 05 Nov 2024 | 00:43:07 | |
I've known Bruce for a couple of years now and he's the kind of guy you just like instantly.
I love him because he has an amazing recollection and respect for the history of Alcoholics Anonymous. I love him for his dedication to carrying the message of AA.
I love him cuz when we ask for help, he honors the AA code and always says yes. And on Tuesday November 5th, 2024 wish him a happy 38 year anniversary.
Check out his big book study sometime! Tuesdays at 530pm eastern time in this zoom room. AA1.0 Tuesdays at 5:30pm https://us06web.zoom.us/j/99464321595 (Password: ardmore)

| Jabari | 26 Jul 2024 | 00:27:07 | |
Jabari has 43 years of sobriety at the time of this recording. Getting sober in the 80's. He called an AA helpline for help and advice. The first time "didn't take" in his words. But he was ready the second time he reached out.
For local help in your area google AA Helpline or your local area AA intergroup office to speak to another alcoholic who will be volunteering to man the hotline.
