Earlier this month I discovered that the word ‘February’ means ‘to cleanse’: The Latin, februarius mensis “month of purification.”

There was a Roman festival of purification called Februa, during which people were ritually washed.

I know we’re right at the end of February, but I still thought this was a great way to use today’s MMM’s to cleanse away what no longer serves you, so that you can create the space for what’s actually important to you.

Today is the New Moon in Pisces.
The New Moon reminds us of the importance of resting, slowing down, or at least taking a breath. And it’s the perfect time to connect in with your inner wisdom to listen for its guidance.

The moon is currently moving through the sign of Pisces, the final sign of the zodiac. As it moves through Pisces it reminds us that things must come to an end so that new things can emerge.

One of my favourite aspects of the energy of Pisces is that it can help us connect us to our dreams, imagination and inspiration – this is the home of your power and magick, and yet aspects of ourselves that we can be quick to overlook or dismiss.

So, today we use the MMM’s to take a pause and reconnect to you the value of your imagination and dreaming.

Today is the last quarter moon in Scorpio and tomorrow is Valentine’s day, this brings an interesting combination of:

• Last quarter moon: Reviewing what’s working for you and what’s not
• Scorpio: Brings, among other things, the topics of power, pleasure, relationships, and money
• Valentine’s day: A focus on love; with society telling you what love, or even what relationships, ‘should’ look like for them to be considered happy and successful.

When you bring these elements together you end up with an energy that could have you questioning your relationships, the power dynamics of those relationships, and what you actually want from them.

But before you can decide what you want to create with those around you, or call in through a new relationship, it’s essential that you review your own relationship with the most important person in  your life… You!

We’ve just had the Full Moon in Leo reminding us of the importance, and courage that it takes, to be loyal to yourself. To prioritise and express your own needs, especially when so many other things demand your attention too.

Putting yourself first can often be seen as selfish, but what if you looked at as filling yourself up, so instead of selfish, it because self-full.

Imagine how much more you could enjoy, participate, contribute and support your own life, and those around you, if you came from a place of full-ness, rather than depletion.

Today I'm sharing something a little different with you - I'd love to know what you think!

Each Monday I'm going to share with you some Magick, Mastery and Momentum.

I share this in my newsletter, but thought you might enjoy it too.

Each week in the newsletter and now here on the podcast, I’ll share with you three small, actionable steps that you can take to reconnect you to, or keep you on path with, the magick of you.

Three, after all, is the magick number 😉

1. Magick is about coming back to your own centre and connecting with the magick of you.

It will often come in the form of a journal prompt to get you connecting to what’s really important to you.

2. Mastery is about your mindset and your relationship with yourself, your power and magick.

This will be something to make sure that you’re being intentional and living a life that’s aligned with the truth of who you are.

3. Momentum is about taking action and actually doing the things you love and living the life that fills you with joy.

This will be something for you to do, a small action step that will move you a step closer to creating a life that you love.

You may recognise these concepts from my book Magickal Knickers and other ways to create a life of intention: Reclaim the magick of you.

Life happens, we get knocked off course, and we end up somewhere we weren’t expecting. My intention for this newsletter is that you’ll receive a little magickal nudge to get you back on track.

Perhaps one activity won’t change your life, but over the course of weeks and months, all these tiny nudges either keep you on track, or nudge you back in the right direction for you.

About Clare Cunliffe-Saunders
Clare is a voice actress and children’s author. “Seven Nights of Snuggles” is for young school children (age 5-8 approx) and was illusrated by Clare’s daughter Rose when she was only 9 years old. This is available in audiobook as well as paperback on Amazon.

Clare has enjoyed a wonderful career as an actress which has enabled her to travel around the world - her favourite job was understudying the lead female roles while playing a phantom in the West End & Broadway touring cast of The Rocky Horror Show.

Now she’s settled down in the countryside with her husband, two teenage children and newfoundland dog.

She currently spends her free time working on her new middle grade (8-12 year olds) children’s book series, “Charlotte & Arthur’s Adventures” - a three part series set in a fantasy land based on Clare’s favourite festivals from the Wheel of the Year and the elements.

The first is set during Yule, the second Samhain and third Ostara. Clare is aiming these books towards pagan families so that their children can have a book which describes their festivals in a way they can relate to and enjoy. The series is set in an imaginative fantasy land and draws on pagan figures, folklore and mythical creatures.

Sabrina Scott has been reading tarot and doing witchcraft for more than twenty years. She went to her first séance at eight years old, and grew up in Modern American Spiritualism. Sabrina sees magic as a way of building relationships with non-human beings, and as a way of healing and grounding the body, mind, and soul.

Her online courses and group coaching programs, Tarot Without Bullshit and Magic Without Bullshit, have helped hundreds of students build skills and confidence in their spiritual and divinatory practices. 

In addition to her professional spiritual work, Sabrina is also a PhD candidate in Science and Technology Studies at York University, where she is working on a project about contemporary witchcraft as a popular science method for improving health outcomes for persons with developmental trauma. 

Sabrina’s first graphic novel, Witchbody, was nominated for the Doug Wright Awards, the biggest comics award series in Canada. It is currently taught in university curriculum in the United States, Canada, and the UK.

She is an artist and witch who grew up in her family’s Italian American magical tradition and has been a student of cartomancy since the Mid-eighties. 
Throughout the past 20 years, she has been creating and presenting workshops on Tarot, Lenormand, and a variety of practical magical topics. 
She has been a professional card reader since 1997 with clients around the globe. She has hunted ghosts in Australia and the US, has been a high priestess for three teaching covens, and is the creator of the Occult Observatory, the largest active club of its kind on Clubhouse. 
A lifelong student and teacher, her focus of study is on esoteric art, practical and ritual magic, and grimoires.

Today's episode is a little more personal as I share how I bought magick to my decision to have a full hysterectomy a few months ago.

I wasn't having any pain or discomfort, but my gynaecologist recommended a full hysterectomy after some routine scans.

At first I was outraged.
I didn't want to be another statistic of an unnecessary surgery.

Then I asked my body what it wanted and everything changed.

Each year for the past 6 years I've run a Summer School - 6-weeks of magick!
And every year it's been fabulous.
Unfortunately this year I won't be able to run it, as lots of other exciting other things are all coming together.
However, I couldn't let summer go by without some kind of magickal experience, so after a chat with a friend last night, we decided it would be a great idea to do a free version of Summer School and you're invited! 🎉
Obviously it will be a bit different....
But I'll be host 6 live classes over 6 weeks, covering all of the basics that you need to know about how to create a safe and effective magickal practice, so that you can really embrace the magick of you!
We'll be covering, amongst other things:

• The difference between magick and witchcraft
• The importance of energetic health and hygiene, and  the mischief that can happen when we neglect this part of our practice
• The most important aspect of creating magick that not only works, but that works consistently
• Working with the moon phases to create moon-mentum in your life
• Understanding how to identify and work with your unique blend magick and not fight against it

During each class there will be a chance for you to get all your questions answered.
I'll even be doing a separate Q&A, to answer any other questions you have that aren't answered by the live classes that I do.

And YES! There will be replays of all  the classes if you can't make it live.

In this episode of the A Pinch of Magick podcast I'm joined by Stella Hervey Birrell as she talks about her essay in the book The Modern Craft. Her essay is titled: Polite Persecution. Raising non-binary children, dismantling everything else.

In this conversation Stella shares her experience of losing the spaces where she had previously felt safe because her children were non-binary, and how she rebuilt a safe space for herself and her family.

She shares her experience of what she calls 'polite persecution' where people who had previously been close friends say the right things and smile, but actually withdraw their love and support.

We also discuss using magick to create safe spaces and the importance of advocating for yourself and your family.

Lilith Dorsey M.A., hails from many magickal traditions, including Afro-Caribbean, Celtic, and Indigenous American spirituality.

Their traditional education focused on Plant Science, Anthropology, and Film at the University of R.I, New York University, and the University of London, and their magickal training includes numerous initiations in Santeria also known as Lucumi, Haitian Vodoun, and New Orleans Voodoo.

Lilith Dorsey is also a Voodoo Priestess and in that capacity has been doing successful magick since 1991 for patrons, is editor/publisher of Oshun-African Magickal Quarterly, filmmaker of the experimental documentary Bodies of Water :Voodoo Identity and Tranceformation,’ and choreographer/performer for jazz legend Dr. John’s “Night Tripper” Voodoo Show.

They have long been committed to providing accurate and respectful information about the African Traditional Religions and are proud to be a published Black author of such titles as Voodoo and African Traditional Religion, 55 Ways to Connect to Goddess, The African-American Ritual Cookbook, Love Magic, the bestselling Orishas, Goddesses and Voodoo Queens and Water Magic.

Dr Alice Tarbuck is a writer, author of A Spell In The Wild and academic specializing in witchcraft and environmental humanities.

She has been featured in Nasty Women and The Dangerous Women Project, and she has spoken on witchcraft at Scottish PEN, Freedom TV and the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre.

Dr Claire Askew is the author of three novels: All The Hidden Truths, What You Pay For and Cover Your Tracks. A fourth, A Matter of Time, is out this year. Also a poet, Claire's second collection How to burn a woman features voices from the European Witchcraft Hysteria. Claire’s accolades include the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize, a Jessie Kesson Fellowship and the McIlvanney Debut Prize.
