EP 144 | Why communicating expectations is not a one-and-done20 Nov 202500:17:41

In this episode, I’m talking about the frustration that comes when you’ve communicated something once… and then it slowly ends up back on your plate.

This is your reminder that communicating expectations isn’t a one and done job.

Especially when it comes to offloading your mental load in a way that actually lasts.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

- Why sharing your mental load doesn’t always “stick” the first time

- How to set expectations without burning out in the process

- What to do when the help you asked for boomerangs straight back

- How to keep going when it feels easier to “just do it yourself”

- Why persistence matters (and how to make it feel lighter)

If you’re in that frustrating cycle of communicating and then re-communicating (and wondering if it’s worth it), this episode will help you zoom out and refocus on the long term goal which is a mental load that’s actually shared, not just shuffled.

EP 143 | How to move through overthinking13 Nov 202500:15:33

In this episode, I’m talking about overthinking. Something that many mums wrestle with.

Whether it’s making a decision, starting something new, or figuring out what’s next, it can be easy to get stuck in the “thinking about it” phase and never actually move forward.

I’m talking through the link between perfectionist thinking and overthinking, why it’s not your fault, and how to gently get yourself out of the swirl and into momentum… one step at a time.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

- What overthinking really looks and feels like (especially in motherhood)

- Why your brain wants to stay stuck in the “thinking” phase

- What perfectionism has to do with it (and how to spot it)

- How to create a feeling of safety when making a decision

- What to do when fear of being misunderstood keeps you frozen

This episode is your reminder that you don’t need all the answers before you begin. You just need to take one small step, and trust yourself to figure out the next from there.

EP 134 | Pep Talk Series – Guilt Smother (Or whatever number we are up to!11 Sep 202500:14:24

This episode is the final pep talk in my little four-part series to celebrate A Mother’s Mind Membership becoming a self-paced course (which means you can now join anytime that works for you!)

Today I’m chatting about something I know every mum has felt at one time or another … guilt.

That heavy, annoying, quiet (or sometimes loud) companion that seems to show up uninvited, especially when we’re doing something for ourselves.

But what if zero guilt wasn’t the goal?

In this pep talk, I walk you through a totally different way of looking at guilt. One that gives you more space, more ease, and a whole lot more self-trust.

Pop this in your ears if guilt has been creeping in lately. This short episode will help you shift the weight of it, without piling on more.

Ep 40 | How to create the change you need02 Nov 202300:32:42

In this episode, I’m talking about how to create the change you need before you hit your limits. It’s all about recognising when 'it is what it is' isn't truly serving us and finding the courage to ask for the shifts when we need them.

  • Why the statement "it is what it is" doesn't have to be your mantra and how to challenge it to create positive change.

Ep 38 | What to do when your expectations of yourself are unrealistic19 Oct 202300:35:46

In this episode, I’m talking all about what we consume and how it impacts our mental load. This is about everything we feed our mind and how it subtly sculpts our day, our feelings, and how we show up.

From the ever-persistent hum of children's songs, the whirl of the latest news, to social media… have you ever paused to reflect on how these daily consumptions, even in their subtlety, shape our thoughts, emotions, and ultimately, our mental load?

In this episode, you'll learn,

  • How everyday consumptions subtly add to our mental load.
  • What you can do to be more intentional with what you expose your mind to.

EP 133 | Pep Talk Series - They Aren’t Mind Readers04 Sep 202500:12:01

This episode is the third pep talk in a little series I’m sharing to celebrate A Mother’s Mind Membership now being a self-paced course you can join anytime.

In this one, I talk about something I see all the time in my coaching… when we expect our people to just know what we need, how we’re feeling, or what’s going on in our head.

I share how that usually plays out (hello, silent resentment) and a few things you can try instead to feel more seen, heard and supported.

Short, practical and packed with love. Pop it in your ears when you need a reminder that you’re not alone.

Ep 35 | A boundary that has changed my life…28 Sep 202300:13:22

This episode is a conversation about setting the boundary that can redefine how you show up in your relationships and, your own life.

It is a simple yet impactful look at how this one principle has changed the way I experience relationships, hard times, great times, and all the moments in between.

This is for you if you're someone who feels deeply and always wants to see your family happy. You know who you are—you're the big feeler, the emotional sponge. You feel the need to protect those you love from negative emotions, and in the process, you end up absorbing them yourself.

If you are taking on everyone's feelings like they're your own, it's not a win for anyone, is it? A single shift in your approach can create not just personal relief but also a ripple of emotional clarity for everyone around you.

In this episode you will learn

  • Why you might be carrying the emotional weight of your entire family and why it's important to stop.
  • How setting this single boundary can change your life in both subtle and significant ways.
  • How to learn to empathise without internalising. Love and support do not mean emotional overload.

Turn Today's Aha Moment into Lasting Change. Grab your journal and reflect on how you could bring this newfound awareness into your everyday life. Need a dedicated space? My mum-focused journal is ready and waiting for you. Click to Grab Your Journal

After listening to the episode - here are some journal prompts to guide you further:

  • Journal Prompt: How have you been taking on others' emotions, and how has it impacted you?
  • Journal Prompt: Mull over this: "I can empathise and support others without taking on their emotions as my own." How can implementing this boundary lighten your emotional load?

Ep 34 | Why lightening the mental load is worth it (even when it doesn’t feel like it)21 Sep 202300:22:50

In this episode, I dive into why it’s so worth investing in lightening your mental load—even when it doesn’t feel worth it.

The struggle of sharing the mental load and feeling like no one else 'gets it.'

You think your family should instinctively understand the dynamics—the nitty-gritty details that make your household run. You assume your partner should just 'know.' When they don’t, it can feel frustrating, and you might think, "Why bother trying to lighten my mental load?"

It's easy to believe that if your partner doesn't instinctively know what's going on, then it's not worth the effort. But think again—inviting the possibility of shared mental load can pave the way for more ease, joy, and a fulfilling partnership.

It's this very conundrum that inspired today’s episode.

In this episode you will learn

  • How to invite your family into your meticulously organised (albeit, overloaded) mental space without expecting them to be mind-readers.
  • How voicing your needs and concerns invites your partner into your world, offering them a chance to contribute in meaningful ways.
  • How to reframe frustrating situations where your family may not ‘get it’ as an opportunity to communicate more.
  • Why investing time in communicating the 'small things' is a long-term win for everyone involved.

You’ll leave this episode with actionable steps to initiate these critical conversations, and lighten your mental load effectively…because it is worth it. Inviting shared responsibility into your life can pave the way for more ease, joy, and a fulfilling partnership with those you love.

Ep 33 | Who am I?14 Sep 202300:25:28

In this episode, I delve into the vital question of identity, particularly as it shifts and evolves through life stages like motherhood. Becoming a mum often intensifies this feeling, marking a significant change not only in our daily responsibilities but also in our sense of self.

Recognising who you are and how you want to contribute to the world can bring clarity and focus not just to your individual life, but to those connected to you as well.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How being intentional about your self-identity can offer you a foundation for decision-making, affecting how you show up in every aspect of life.
  • What three questions you can ask yourself to work through the question of “Who am I?”
  • The importance of demystifying what being a 'good mum' means to you, separating external expectations from your inner wisdom.
  • What it means to align your values with your energy and time.

Ep 32 | How to build a self-image that feels fricken great to you07 Sep 202300:19:24

In this episode, I am talking about how to build a self image that feels great for you. I delve into the nuances of self-image, particularly for mothers navigating the ever-changing landscapes of family life and personal identity.

Have you ever stopped to consider the image you've crafted of yourself? Or even more importantly, how that self-image shapes not only your days but those of your family?

We often find ourselves stuck in roles or labels from the past, unaware of the freedom we actually have to redesign who we are and, subsequently, who we become.

Your self-image matters enormously, not just for your well-being, but for setting the tone in your household as well. An empowering shift in how you see yourself can naturally ripple out to positively impact your family, too.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • How to unravel your self-image without unravelling yourself.
  • What it means to consciously sculpt your self-image, and how this awareness guides you in your daily interactions and choices.
  • The impact of asking for and receiving help, especially when old self-images would have you 'do it all.'

You'll leave this episode equipped with actionable insights that you can begin implementing immediately.

Ep 29 | Michelle’s mental load & life update17 Aug 202300:35:35

In this episode, I open the pages of my journal for you, sharing my whirlwind journey of life updates recently.

I am transparent about how these changes have affected me emotionally, logistically, and how the impact has been, well... a bit HEAVY.

There were times I felt adrift, disconnected from my routines and the things that anchor me. But through it all, I've learned the importance of being gentle with myself, of sitting with my feelings, and not rushing to change or fix them.

 In this episode, you'll discover:

  • The raw reality of juggling significant life changes all at once.
  • How I've been regulating both my emotions and the logistical circus that is relocating.
  • Navigating the joyous yet daunting realm of expecting our second child amidst major life transitions.
  • The toll (and lessons!) of handling a hefty mental load.
  • Why sometimes, the best action is inaction – allowing ourselves to feel, process, and move through our emotions without the pressure of "doing" something about them.

This episode is a snapshot of my world, and I hope it resonates with you. Because, whether it's a major life change or simply the daily grind, we all face those moments when we feel overwhelmed.

My biggest takeaway? Embrace the chaos, cherish the high points, and remember, it's okay if things don't always go according to the plan. Sometimes, the detours lead us to the most magical destinations.

Ep 28 | How to invite in more gratitude for yourself10 Aug 202300:32:57

In this episode, I’m talking about the significance of shifting our mindset to welcome gratitude and create a space for all our emotions, even the uncomfortable ones.

Embracing the full range of our emotions can sometimes feel like learning to dance in a thunderstorm.

It's wet, it's wild, it's unpredictable. But each time, we build resilience and become a little more comfortable with the discomfort.

Life is so hectic and we don't really get a chance to just pause and see where this is showing up in our lives.

This episode is that pause, that safe harbour where we can reflect, feel, grow, and understand.

In this episode, you'll discover:

  • How to shift your mindset to invite gratitude and give yourself space to explore it.
  • The common discomfort associated with feeling certain emotions and the narratives we tend to create around them.
  • How to debunk your stories and give yourself permission to sit with uncomfortable emotions.
  • How to intentionally put boundaries around experiencing emotion for a set time, slowly building resilience and comfort with the unease.

Ep 25 | Doing it your way20 Jul 202300:18:20

In this episode, I’m ripping up the rule book on the ‘shoulds’ of parenting. Because motherhood isn't about ticking boxes, it's about painting your own beautiful, chaotic, and uniquely-you masterpiece.

We live in an era of information overload, and it's never more apparent than in our parenting journeys. From breastfeeding to sleepovers, school choices to technology time, we're bombarded with opinions, advice, and societal expectations.

But what if I told you that you have the power to rewrite the motherhood script according to your values, your circumstances, and your mindset?

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How to build the self-trust to do things differently in your motherhood journey.
  • The importance of defining your non-negotiables and what you're willing to bend on.
  • Why showing up authentically matters and how it feels when you do.
  • The cost of getting lost in the noise of comparison and self-shaming.
  • How to foster a mindset of trust, choosing to seek information only when necessary, and savouring the present.
  • A peek into my personal journey - how choosing to do pregnancy my way made all the difference.

Motherhood isn't about moulding yourself to fit an off-the-shelf model. It's about being true to yourself, honouring your unique journey, and embracing the beautiful messiness of raising tiny humans.

As you tune in, may you find the courage to replace the 'shoulds' with 'coulds'.

Ep 24 | Working through a decision-making process13 Jul 202300:26:30

In this episode, I’m diving into a crucial life skill – decision-making.

Whether you're deciding on your family's dinner or making big life-changing choices like moving countries, decision-making is a part of our everyday lives.

But oh boy, it can be a tough one! Especially when these decisions not only impact us but also our little ones.

Whether you’re deciding which school to send your kids to, contemplating a career change, or figuring out how to juggle all the balls you have in the air, this episode will help you break down the decision-making process and give you actionable strategies to navigate it.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How journaling can help process your thoughts and make complex decisions more manageable.
  • Why focusing on what you know, rather than what you don't, can stop fear from being the driver of your decisions.
  • How embracing discomfort can help you during times of change and uncertainty.
  • Why seeking help during this process is not only ok but absolutely necessary.

Remember, the most challenging part is often the decision-making process itself.

If you need somewhere to start this practice and work through your decisions, my Mindset Journal is a perfect place to begin. Check it out HERE.

The impact of the mental load includes feeling undervalued, resentful, and unable to switch off. It leads to sleepless nights, exhaustion, and difficulty being present in the moment.

Ep 19 | How to not shame your past self08 Jun 202300:23:25

In this episode, I talk about a conversation I’ve had with a lovely friend lately about the concept of survival mode, not shaming your past self and learning how to give yourself self-compassion.

We've all been there – those moments in life when we're just trying to get by, whether it's after a sleepless night, a period of big change, or even dealing with grief. Survival mode can manifest in various ways, but it's something we all experience.

This episode aims to help you understand the signs of survival mode and, most importantly, how to shower yourself with kindness and understanding for the choices you made during those tough times.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • What survival mode might look like in different situations.

  • How to recognise perfectionism, and if you are doing everything you can to avoid feeling shame.

  • The signs of survival mode, such as less communication or making less ideal nutritional choices.

  • How to avoid shaming yourself for past decisions made in survival mode and instead, focus on embracing self-compassion.

  • What it looks like to allow yourself the space to be creative and make choices that serve you in the present moment.

Everyone has moments of survival mode throughout their lives, and it's okay to make choices based on where you are right now. It’s ok to feel all your feelings.

So, grab some headphones and tune in as I talk about how to let go of past shame, embrace self-compassion, and move forward in deciding how you want your life to look. You won't want to miss this love note to your past self!

Ep 17 | What I learned about myself by lightening my mental load25 May 202300:35:48

In today's episode, I'm excited to share my personal journey of transforming my beliefs around communication and learning to trust myself to express my thoughts and feelings openly.

You know how sometimes we see communication as a battlefield and try to avoid it at all costs, fearing confrontations?

Well, that used to be me, not too long ago!  This mindset can lead to feelings of detachment and eventually crumbling under pressure.

But guess what? Avoiding communication only leads to misunderstandings, missed opportunities, and tense relationships.

So, join me in this episode as I spill the beans on how I tackled this challenge through my journaling practice and by staying curious about myself.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How to become the person who confidently communicates your feelings and see how this can help ease overwhelm, frustration, and uncertainty.

  • How to give yourself permission to feel all the feelings - even the uncomfortable ones.

  • What strategies you can use to lighten your mental load, paving the way for a more balanced and satisfying life for you and your loved ones.

  • Powerful questions to guide you in recognising and easing the weight of your thoughts.

And remember, you don't have to put all the weight on one conversation to fix everything.

Just keep the lines of communication open, and I promise you'll see improvements in your relationships, confidence, and self-image.

Have a listen and take these new thoughts and apply them to your own life. My hope is that sharing my story will help you rewrite a belief or narrative that you've held onto for far too long.

Ep 6 | People-pleasing, vulnerability & resilience09 Mar 202300:24:09

As mums, we often feel the pressure to be everything to everyone. We want to please our partners, our kids, our friends, and even strangers on social media. But this constant need for approval can lead to burnout, overwhelm, and a sense of disconnection from ourselves.

By people-pleasing, we may find ourselves sacrificing our own needs and values in order to avoid conflict or gain acceptance. This can leave us feeling resentful or like we're living someone else's life instead of our own.

In this episode, I am raw and vulnerable. I share my personal story about people-pleasing and the element of perfectionism that shows up in my life.  Through my own coaching and self-reflection, I share my insight into how this can be detrimental to not only yourself, but others around you.

In this episode, you will learn

  • What building resilience and embracing vulnerability looks like as a way of living authentically.
  • How hiding or suppressing emotions for the sake of keeping the peace is not beneficial to anyone.
  • How to use some actionable tips that you can apply to your own life to improve your overall mental well-being.

So if you're ready to break free from people-pleasing and embrace your true self in motherhood, listen in.

EP 130 | Why I believe it is possible to switch your brain off14 Aug 202500:23:57

In this episode, I’m sharing why I believe it is possible to learn the skill of switching your brain off (even if it’s just for a moment) and why that belief has been one of the most important mindset shifts in my own motherhood journey.

There’s a deeply ingrained story in our culture, that a “good mum” always has a million tabs open in her mind.

Always on. Always thinking. Always holding it all.

But what if that didn’t have to be true?

In this episode, you will learn:

- The invisible rules we’ve absorbed about being a ‘switched on’ mum

- Why “mental load” doesn’t have to mean mental exhaustion

- How belief is the first (and most overlooked) step to change

- The difference between action and undercurrent belief

- How I started rewiring this belief in my own life (and how you can too)

This one might feel a bit stretchy, but it’s one I want you to hear, because this shift has changed how I show up in my day to day life in huge ways. And I believe it’s possible for you, too.

Do you ever feel like there is too much on your plate?

As a mother, you are constantly juggling multiple tasks and responsibilities. You are expected to manage home life, parenting duties, work commitments and family needs all at once.  All of these things accumulate into what is referred to as a heavy mental load.

Having a heavy mental load can be overwhelming, lead to stress and fatigue as you try to balance it all. It’s easy to feel like no matter how hard you try, there is never enough time in the day or energy left for yourself.

It’s time to take an intentional breath, and pause to understand your current mental load and mindset. You will feel lighter, and increase clarity in areas where overwhelm has been present.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • What the mental load actually encompasses
  • How important it is to understand and manage your mental load
  • What it looks & feels like when you have a lightened mental load

Ep 4 | How to simplify your life23 Feb 202300:33:38

If you dream of a simple life, yet the reality of your actual daily life is far from it, this episode is for you!

Perfectionist thinking often convinces us that in order for something to be worthy or satisfying, it needs to be complicated and hard. We can inadvertently overcomplicate things and make every project feel like an uphill battle that must be earned.

In this episode, I focus on how I aligned my value of simplicity with my everyday reality and practically what that continues to look like. Moving away from rush, inundation and overwhelm, towards finding the ease and joy in simplifying.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How simplicity in thinking, business and motherhood can help you achieve a daily reality that feels good for you.
  • How to uncover the story in your brain that is causing overwhelm and rush and to recognise patterns of overthinking and stress.
  • What it looks like to rewire that story to find satisfaction in simplicity.
  • Why it is important to bridge the gap between longing to live with simplicity and making it your reality.

Tune in now for tips on how you can shift away from patterns that lead to overwhelm and rush, so you can live a simpler life!

Ep 3 | Believing you are an asset16 Feb 202300:26:59

Do you want to stop feeling overwhelmed and start taking control of your life? Are you ready to start believing in yourself as an asset and making decisions that will benefit your whole family?

As mothers, we often feel the need to put others before ourselves and forget our own needs. We are constantly bombarded with stories about what a new mother should do or look like or feel like, which can make it hard for us to value ourselves.

This pressure can leave us feeling overwhelmed and powerless in our roles as mothers, unable to take control of our lives and rewrite our stories.

In this episode of A Mother’s Mind, I share the idea of shifting your mindset and protecting yourself as an asset.

What You’ll Learn from this Episode:

  • How to recognise your value as a mother and how to prioritise yourself.
  • How to challenge societal norms and stories around motherhood.
  • What techniques to use to set boundaries and create a balanced lifestyle

With this newfound perspective, you will be able to craft an empowering journey of motherhood that is authentic to who you are, while still meeting the needs of those around you.

Tune in to discover how you can become an unstoppable Mumma with confidence.
