131. ALTM REWIND: Animal intuitive Lilly Ludwig15 Feb 202401:04:14

This week we're doing a REWIND - enjoy! :)

---

This week Jamie talks to Lilly Ludwig, animal intuitive.  Jamie discovered Lilly on TikTok (of course!) and then waited three months for an appointment so that she could talk to her childhood cat Angel, who passed away in 2011.

They talk about how and when Lilly realized that she was different from other kids and had a special gift, exactly what animals sound like (spoiler alert: they don't all have British accents like Jamie wanted to think, lol), and so much more about communicating with not only cats and dogs, but horses and other (less cute) animals, too! They end the episode when Lilly talks to Jamie's cats, Gemma and Gea, and we laugh a ton.  If you love animals, this episode is definitely for you!

21. Creating an ocean-inspired skincare brand with Jenefer Palmer.28 May 202000:55:56

This week Jamie talks to Jenefer Palmer, founder of OSEA skincare.

Jenefer was inspired to start OSEA by her grandmother, who was bedridden and had a dream that the ocean had healed her (you gotta listen – it’s quite the story).

OSEA began in Jenefer’s kitchen sink after a decade working as spa director at the historic Murrieta Hot Springs. Paired with her training in various healing modalities including polarity therapy, acupressure, shiatsu and iodynamic cranialsacral therapy, Jenefer was a thought leader in the burgeoning wellness space. Jamie talks to Joslyn Davis, YouTube content creator and co-founder of Shared Media.  Jamie and Joslyn talk about monetizing IGTV, the trend of "perfectionism" on Instagram going away, why we both hate the term "girl boss" and Joslyn's annual mystery trip that gives Jamie major anxiety.  We then get into Joslyn's thoughts on YouTube vs IGTV and her advice for smaller YouTubers on deciding whether or not to invest in the channel.  Jos then spills some juice on the major drama that happened at CLEVVER when she left, starting her own company, Shared Media, and how she handles online trolls (hint: she once got a death threat and called the girl's school! My kinda girl).  Joslyn then talks about why you don't really need a "niche" anymore and we chat beauty at the end, right before Jamie forces Joslyn to play F/Marry/Kill with the Jonas Brothers.

11: Syd Wilder - podcaster, mental health advocate, suicide survivor, actress, comedian and all around kind human being. We talk loss, grief, divorce, surviving suicide, her title as Playboy’s top 10 hottest YouTuber + more…19 Mar 202001:13:56

TRIGGER WARNING: This episode touches on serious subject matters, such as rape and attempted suicide. We take a lighthearted tone to the conversation (per Syd’s lead), but I wanted to flag the topics in case anyone will be triggered by it. Thank you for listening.

Jamie talks to Syd Wilder, podcaster, mental health advocate, suicide survivor, actress, comedian and all around kind human being. We start with what was a little too much and just the right amount of too much for both of us the week we recorded. Syd’s title as “Playboy’s top 10 hottest YouTubers” of 2015 and how Jamie’s biggest LA regret is never getting to go to the mansion. We then talk briefly about trolls on the internet, Syd’s grandfather being a Navy SEAL, Jamie’s obsession with “SEAL Team” on CBS, and Jamie’s dad fighting in the Vietnam war and admitting that he had killed people.

They then get into the details of Syd’s marriage and divorce to a man 33 years older than her and what a narcissistic sociopath looks like IRL. Why getting married/getting into a serious relationship is a bad idea when you’re grieving or dealing with loss and the time Jamie went on one date with a male model. After that Syd shares her traumatic experience being 5150’d and admitted to a psych ward after her attempted suicide, the highlight of her career to date and the story about how Jamie’s “life coach” ghosted her after her dad died and then lied about it.

10: Amanda Montell – writer, linguist and author of “WORDSLUT”. We talk about her process writing a book, adapting it for TV, thriving on a challenge, her second book, her Italian love affair and CABBAGE.12 Mar 202001:00:41

Jamie talks to Amanda Montell, writer, linguist and author of “WORDSLUT: A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language”.   We talk about the debate Jamie got into with someone who tried to convince her that cabbage is a good source of protein, how Amanda got her start at Byrdie.com as a beauty editor, taking a six month leave to write "WORDSLUT" and how she spent the last month of that writing in Italy (!), and managed to have an amazing Italian love affair. We then get into how she’s now writing a pilot for FX based off her book and the process of pitching a TV show and actually getting it made! We then get into her second upcoming book (“Mind F*ck”), which is about how cult leaders use language to grow and manipulate their followers and how the word “ya’all” is actually a fluent solution to how the English lacks a second plural pronoun (and why you shouldn’t feel weird about using it).

Amanda wants us all to use language to feel empowered, and I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it!

They then discuss being an entrepreneur, how Sayeh helps female entrepreneurs believe in themselves through branding, why branding is so crucial for any business, how Sayeh built out an effective team, the importance of “niching down,” being self employed and how working for yourself and being an entrepreneur is NOT for everybody and you shouldn’t feel any shame about that and more.

Don’t try to put this man in a skinny jean, ok?! Jamie then tells the story about how her friend from college showed her blog to J. Lo and what J. Lo said about it. On this episode, Jamie interviews Erin Ziering, blogger at AtHomeWithTheZierings.com and host of Housewives of Hollywood.

We discuss: How Erin met her husband, 90210 actor Ian Ziering (it’s a super cute story, just FYI) and the full story on how they said “I love you” after five days and got engaged after three months. Plus, naturally, Jamie asks if Erin’s parents thought she was nuts for marrying a celebrity 20 years older than her. We also discuss Jamie’s PTSD about traveling nurses (Erin used to be one!), why kid zombies wearing pajamas are terrifying, the fact that Erin’s oldest daughter Mia is already an aspiring Instagram influencer making that $$$ and has taken an interest in making sure other children of mom influencers are also getting paid (#getitgirl). Jamie and Erin then go into the loss of Luke Perry has affected their family, Erin’s last convo with Luke, and what a great friend Luke was to Ian. We also campaign for Steve Sanders to have a dog on the new 90210 reboot (i.e. Erin wants Ian’s IRL dog out of the house for the summer), so let’s try to make that happen for her. #SteveSandersNeedsaDog

Jamie and Erin then really embarrass themselves with their lack of knowledge about Marvel and DC as they talk about Ian’s upcoming TV role as Blue Devil.

Jamie then tells the story about when she wasn’t allowed to enter Disney World because she was wearing a Wonder Woman costume. True story. AND then Jamie has FEELINGS on childless adults who love/frequently visit Disneyland here in LA.

Lastly, Erin talks about how she and Ian had to call TMZ and the media when the public school they send their kids to (right here in West Hollywood!) refused to address a major violent bullying issue.
