125. Skip the Shot: How Bitter Foods Trigger Natural GLP-1 Release04 Nov 202500:34:57

Are you doing "everything right"—eating clean, working out, and still battling fatigue, weight loss resistance, and relentless cravings? You're not alone. As women in perimenopause and menopause, shifting hormone balance can slow metabolism, alter hunger cues, and make it nearly impossible to lose weight the way we used to.

In this episode, I sit down with Sarah Kennedy, CEO of Calocurb, to talk about a groundbreaking natural alternative to popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.

We unpack how your body's own gut-brain connection can be reactivated using a 100% natural compound derived from hops, how GLP-1 hormones regulate hunger and satiety, and why this may be one of the most exciting breakthroughs for sustainable weight management—especially for women struggling with perimenopausal weight gain, fatigue, and digestive issues.

What You'll Learn

• The truth about GLP-1 hormones — what they do in your body, and how they naturally control appetite and fullness.
• Why synthetic injectables like Ozempic can cause side effects — and how they differ from your body's own GLP-1 response.
• The surprising power of bitter compounds — how natural plant extracts like Amarasate activate GLP-1, reduce cravings, and support a healthy gut-brain axis.
• Why this approach is ideal for perimenopausal and menopausal women — discover how hormonal shifts, stress, and low energy change hunger and metabolism, and how to rebalance them naturally.
• A simple timing strategy — when to take Calocurb to reduce nighttime cravings, support fasting, and eat less without feeling deprived.

If you've been frustrated by weight loss resistance, low energy, or the feeling that your metabolism has "stopped working," this episode will show you why it's not your fault—and how to work with your body instead of against it.

We'll walk through the science, the clinical research, and real-world strategies to help you reclaim your energy, rebalance your hormones, and restore your confidence without relying on synthetic solutions.

124. You're Not Going Crazy—You're in Perimenopause21 Oct 202500:39:32

Are you tired, foggy, and just not feeling like yourself anymore? Maybe your workouts feel harder, your energy crashes mid-afternoon, or you can't seem to lose weight no matter what you do. You might assume it's stress, your thyroid, or just "getting older"—but these are often early signs of perimenopause and shifting hormone balance that quietly impact your energy, gut health, and mood years before your period ever stops.

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Mariza Snyder to break down what's really happening in your body during perimenopause—and why so many women are dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told it's "all in their head." We talk about how fluctuating estrogen and progesterone can disrupt your metabolism, trigger fatigue, increase bloating and IBS symptoms, and even alter your brain chemistry, leading to anxiety, irritability, and brain fog.

If you've been feeling off but can't pinpoint why, this conversation will help you connect the dots between your hormones, gut, and energy levels—and show you what real support looks like in this transition.

What You'll Learn in This Episode

•   How to recognize the earliest signs of perimenopause before your cycle changes
•   The connection between hormone fluctuations, gut health, and brain fog
•   Why perimenopause is often mistaken for thyroid problems or depression
•   The truth about HRT—when to consider it and why you don't have to wait until menopause
•   Five simple, science-backed habits to stabilize your energy, mood, and metabolism

You'll walk away understanding how to navigate this stage with confidence—knowing what's normal, what's not, and how to support your body naturally.

If you've been feeling exhausted, moody, or just "off," this episode is your guide to understanding what your hormones are trying to tell you—and how to restore balance from the inside out.

Listen now to start feeling like yourself again.

115. The Hidden Nervous System Issue Behind Bloating, Brain Fog & Hormone Chaos with Tony Ebel17 Jun 202500:39:32

Ever feel like no matter how clean you eat, how many supplements you take, or how well you manage your stress—you're still dealing with fatigue, brain fog, hormone imbalance, or weight loss resistance?

I've been there too—and in this episode, we're talking about a game-changing factor that's often completely overlooked: your nervous system, specifically the vagus nerve.

This conversation with Dr. Tony Ebel dives deep into why so many of us are stuck in chronic exhaustion and low energy despite doing "everything right."  If you've been navigating perimenopause, digestive issues like bloating or IBS, hormone swings, or stubborn metabolism challenges, this one's for you. You'll learn how nervous system dysregulation affects hormone balance, gut health, and even how your body handles stress and detoxification.

We'll explore how the HPATG axis, adrenal fatigue, cortisol, and inflammation are all downstream of a major system most of us don't prioritize enough.

What You'll Hear in This Episode:
  • A surprising root cause of brain fog and weight loss resistance that has nothing to do with your diet or workout.
  • The overlooked connection between your gut health and vagus nerve—and how it affects bloating, constipation, and IBS.
  • A subtle shift in your exercise routine that could totally transform your energy, metabolism, and hormone regulation.

Whether you're struggling with hormonal imbalance, thyroid dysfunction, or just feel like you're running on empty, what Dr. Tony shares here is essential listening. You'll leave with a new understanding of why your body's "fight or flight" mode is working against your healing—and what you can start doing to shift into rest, regulation, and healing.

And here's the best part: you don't have to overhaul everything. Just learning how to regulate your nervous system could change how your hormones, energy, and gut function—permanently.

Tap play and let's talk about what's really holding you back from feeling better.

114. How Big Food Hijacked Your Gut, Hormones & Metabolism—And How to Take Control03 Jun 202500:16:37

Ever wonder why you still feel exhausted even when you're eating "healthy"? Why brain fog, bloating, and stubborn weight just won't budge—despite your best efforts? In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on what's really in your food—and how it's hijacking your metabolism, gut health, hormones, and energy levels.

We're talking about the hidden forces behind fatigue, weight loss resistance, and the rising rates of metabolic disease. From high-fructose corn syrup to toxic seed oils, the modern food industry has transformed our diets in ways that are fueling inflammation, hormone imbalance, and even neurodegenerative diseases.

You'll learn why your mitochondria are struggling, how your gut is silently inflamed, and what it all has to do with your energy crashes, perimenopause symptoms, and that stubborn belly fat that just won't move. If you're navigating IBS, brain fog, or unexplained fatigue, this episode is a must-listen.

Key Points You'll Hear in This Episode:

  • The shocking truth about "healthy" foods on your grocery store shelves—and how they're sabotaging your gut health.

  • The surprising link between perimenopause and your gut microbiome—plus a quick test you can do at home.

  • A subtle hormone shift that might explain your energy crashes—and how to fix it without reaching for coffee.

  • How artificial ingredients and seed oils disrupt your metabolism and may be keeping you stuck in inflammation mode.

If you're searching for real answers about why you're constantly tired, struggling with weight despite eating clean, or wondering how your digestive health might be impacting your hormones—this episode breaks it down. We talk about the food system's deep flaws, how processed foods lead to insulin resistance and leaky gut, and what you can start doing today to protect your health and energy.

Your body deserves better than factory-made fuel. Learn how to become your own food advocate—and why eating nutrient-dense whole foods can be your best defense against fatigue, brain fog, and hormone chaos.

113. Brain Fog, Gut Issues & Exhaustion? This Could Be the Real Culprit Disrupting Your Hormones with Dr. Aly Cohen20 May 202500:30:54

Feeling stuck in a cycle of fatigue, brain fog, and hormone chaos? Wondering why no matter how "healthy" you eat, your energy stays low or your weight won't budge? You're not alone—and it may not be your fault. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Aly Cohen, a board-certified rheumatologist and environmental health expert, to talk about something that affects every single one of us but rarely gets discussed: the toxic chemical overload hiding in our everyday lives.

We unpack how environmental chemicals are silently disrupting your hormone balance, gut health, and immune system—especially during perimenopause and menopause, when your body is already more sensitive to stress, inflammation, and hormonal shifts. You'll hear how toxins are linked to weight loss resistance, IBS, exhaustion, thyroid dysfunction, and even autoimmune flares.

Dr. Cohen shares her signature "4 A's" method to detox your life—without obsessing or aiming for perfection. From common kitchen swaps to what's lurking in your self-care routine (yep, even your garbage bags), we get into the everyday habits that silently sabotage your metabolism and energy—and how to reclaim your vitality, one simple change at a time.

Key Points (Listen for the 'how' in the full episode):

• The everyday products disrupting your hormone balance and gut health—especially during perimenopause
• How immune-disrupting chemicals could be triggering inflammation, fatigue, and autoimmune flares
• A subtle hormone shift that might explain your energy crashes—and how to fix it without relying on coffee
• The surprising link between toxins and brain fog, and the four simple steps Dr. Cohen recommends to detox smarter (not harder)

If you're doing "all the right things" for your health but still dealing with bloating, mood swings, constipation, or low energy, it's time to look deeper. Toxins are the hidden variable no one talks about—but they're quietly impacting your metabolism, hormone balance, and gut health. This episode helps you understand the "why" behind your symptoms and gives you a practical place to start.

Ready to clear the confusion and reclaim your health?
Tune in and learn how to assess, avoid, and gently detox without the overwhelm. Because true hormone balance, digestion, and energy start with removing what's blocking your body from healing.

112. Struggling to Lose Weight? How Hormones, Stress & Metabolism Impact Fat Loss (And How to Fix It!)06 May 202500:21:34

Ever feel crushing fatigue, stubborn belly weight, or energy crashes no matter how "clean" you eat? Let's sort out the confusion around weight-loss resistance, hormone balance, gut health, and a metabolism that suddenly won't cooperate—especially in perimenopause when brain fog, IBS-style bloating, and low energy can gang-up on you.

Today I walk you through the hidden hormone signals that turn calories into cling-on fat (yes, even if you're fasting, counting macros, or exercising harder) —so you can finally drop the frustration along with the extra pounds.

What we cover in this episode
  • The cortisol trap that stores fat around your organs—and the simple nightly shift that starts reversing it.

  • A subtle estrogen-progesterone imbalance that can tank metabolism in perimenopause and why blood tests often miss it.

  • Why "eat less, move more" backfires when thyroid conversion stalls (hint: it's not just about calories).

  • A protein-fiber combo that smooths blood-sugar spikes and steadies energy without crash diets.

You'll walk away knowing what hormone patterns sabotage weight-loss, why stress and sleep set the stage for belly fat, and which lab clues flag hidden insulin resistance—so you can tune into the full episode for the "how" and put each fix into action. Expect to reclaim energy, clear brain fog, and see the scale move in the right direction while supporting gut and digestive health along the way.

111. Fatigue, Bloating & Brain Fog: How to Reset Your Hormones & Energy Fast with Dr. Tricia Pingel22 Apr 202500:39:18

"Is Stress the Real Reason You Can't Lose Weight or Heal Your Gut?"

Are you constantly battling fatigue, weight loss resistance, hormone imbalance, or relentless brain fog—and wondering why nothing is working, even though you're doing all the "right" things?

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Tricia Pingel to unpack one of the most overlooked but powerful drivers of chronic symptoms: cortisol. We explore how the stress response hijacks your metabolism, messes with your hormones, disrupts your digestion, and can even trigger histamine intolerance and immune system reactivity.

If you're in perimenopause, struggling with IBS, feel stuck despite healthy eating and workouts, or just can't figure out why your energy has tanked, this conversation is for you. You'll walk away with fresh insight into how your body is not broken—it's protecting you. And there's a way out.

Key Points:

  • The stress-hormone connection that's wrecking your metabolism and gut health—without you even realizing it.

  • A subtle hormone shift that might explain your energy crashes, and how to fix it without coffee.

  • Why your IBS, histamine issues, or food reactions aren't always about the food—and what to focus on instead.

  • The surprising link between perimenopause and your adrenal response (plus why fasting could be backfiring).

What You'll Learn Inside the Episode:

We talk about how adrenal fatigue often sneaks up on the most driven, type-A women—the ones powering through life, checking every box, and still feeling awful. Dr. Pingel explains why your body stores fat in a stressed state (especially around the midsection), how perceived stress—not just actual events—triggers hormonal chaos, and what's really happening in your immune system when you react to the same food one day but not the next.

She also walks us through her four-pillar approach to adrenal healing:

  • Functional nutrition that supports cortisol regulation

  • Movement that calms the nervous system rather than overwhelms it

  • Strategic supplementation, including specific vitamins and adaptogens

  • Mind-body rewiring to shift your stress response for good

We get into the mindset blocks that keep you stuck in burnout, the dangerous myth of pushing harder to get results, and how joy, boundaries, and nervous system regulation can transform your gut, hormones, and energy levels more than any diet or detox ever will.

Fatigue, hormone imbalance, and gut symptoms don't always mean something's "broken"—they often mean your body's under-protected and overstimulated. You can shift your biology by shifting your stress response. This episode offers a roadmap for how to do exactly that, starting with how you think, move, eat, and prioritize yourself.

If you've tried everything and still don't feel better, this might just be the missing piece.

110. Iodine & Hormone Balance: The Overlooked Link to Thyroid, Metabolism & Energy08 Apr 202500:17:23

The Hidden Key to Hormone Balance—Why Iodine Matters More Than You Think

Are you struggling with fatigue, weight loss resistance, brain fog, or stubborn digestive issues? Have you ever considered that an iodine deficiency might be behind it? Iodine plays a crucial role in hormone balance, metabolism, and thyroid function, yet it's often overlooked. Many people don't realize that low iodine levels can contribute to symptoms like IBS, perimenopause struggles, and even estrogen dominance—leading to heavy periods, mood swings, and low energy.

In this episode, we dive into the little-known ways iodine impacts your health—from supporting thyroid hormones to protecting your brain and metabolism. If you're feeling stuck with frustrating symptoms and haven't found answers, it's time to consider this missing mineral.

What You'll Learn in This Episode:

  • The shocking connection between iodine and hormone balance—and why most people aren't getting enough.

  • How iodine deficiency could be behind your fatigue, weight struggles, and brain fog—plus simple ways to check your levels.

  • The hidden reason your metabolism may be slowing down—and how iodine plays a role in digestion, IBS, and gut health.

  • Why too much iodine can backfire—especially if you have Hashimoto's or other thyroid issues.

Why This Episode Matters for You:

If you've been frustrated by low energy, hormonal imbalances, or unexplained weight gain, you need to know how iodine plays a role in balancing estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Plus, it helps detox harmful halogens like fluoride and bromine, which can disrupt your thyroid and metabolism.

We'll also talk about the best iodine-rich foods (hint: it's not just iodized salt) and what to look for when considering supplements.

108. Hormones, Stress & Weight Gain: How the HPATG Axis Impacts Metabolism, Fatigue & Perimenopause Symptoms11 Mar 202500:17:08

Struggling with fatigue, brain fog, weight loss resistance, or unpredictable digestion? It might not just be stress—it could be your hormones working against you. If you've ever wondered why perimenopause seems to zap your energy or why your metabolism feels sluggish despite your best efforts, this episode is for you.

In today's episode of A Little Bit Healthier, we're kicking off the Hormone Series by breaking down the HPA-TG Axis—your body's command center for hormone balance. This system influences everything from stress regulation to metabolism, thyroid function, and reproductive health. Yet, most of us were never taught how it all works or what we can do to support it.

I'll walk you through the missing links between your hormones, gut health, and energy levels—and why chronic stress might be sabotaging your thyroid and metabolism without you realizing it.

What You'll Learn in This Episode:
  • What the HPA-TG Axis is and why it holds the key to hormone balance, metabolism, and digestion
  • The surprising way stress impacts your thyroid, leading to fatigue, sluggish metabolism, and weight gain
  • How high insulin levels can trigger hormone imbalances, making perimenopause symptoms worse
  • The simple lifestyle shifts that can help regulate cortisol, balance blood sugar, and support digestion for better energy

When your hormones are in sync, your body thrives. When they're out of balance, you feel exhausted, struggle to lose weight, deal with bloating, and experience mood swings that seem impossible to control.

We'll cover why cortisol is stealing your progesterone, how insulin resistance contributes to weight gain and PCOS, and what you can do to start regaining control over your energy, metabolism, and gut health.

If this episode resonated with you, share it with a friend who needs to hear it. Don't forget to subscribe and leave a review so we can reach more women ready to take back control of their health.

107. The Power of Hypnosis: Reduce Anxiety, Rewire Your Mind & Transform Your Health with Sara Raymond04 Mar 202500:29:51

Unlocking the Power of Hypnosis for Mental Health and Self-Discovery

Are you constantly striving for the next achievement yet feeling unfulfilled? Do you battle anxiety or self-criticism that seems impossible to break? Today's episode explores how hypnosis can be a powerful tool for accessing the subconscious mind and creating lasting change.

I spoke with Sara, a hypnotherapist who discovered hypnosis during her own burnout recovery. Like many high achievers, she had all the boxes checked for success but was constantly seeking the next level, leading to exhaustion. This personal journey eventually led her to help others through hypnotherapy.

Key Points from Our Conversation:

  • What is Hypnosis? A meditative state that allows access below the logical mind to reach the subconscious where emotions, beliefs, and past experiences reside - formed before our logical mind developed.

  • Stage Hypnosis vs. Therapeutic Hypnosis Entertainment hypnosis differs from therapeutic practices. No one can be made to do anything they don't want to do. Therapeutic hypnosis focuses on healing rather than entertainment.

  • Working with the Inner Critic Hypnosis identifies how your inner critic has been serving you (often as protection) and allows you to "negotiate" with it, releasing its hold to develop healthier patterns.

  • Understanding Anxiety Many use worry as a form of protection or control. Hypnosis helps recognize this pattern and create space to choose different responses.

  • Self-Forgiveness Process Hypnotherapy reveals childhood beliefs (like "I must achieve to be lovable") that drive adult behaviors, facilitating self-forgiveness and reframing. Physical Health Benefits When we release limiting patterns, physical changes follow—shoulders relaxing, breathing improving, and nervous system shifting from stress to relaxation.

  • Practical Self-Hypnosis Tips Start with awareness without judgment, identify how patterns have been serving you, and create interruption cues to break patterns and choose new responses.

Transform Your Patterns and Beliefs

Working with our subconscious through hypnosis can break through barriers that talk therapy or medication alone might not address. By understanding the positive intentions behind our patterns, we can create healthier alternatives.

Building new neural pathways takes practice. As Sara mentions, when old thoughts return, we simply redirect to the new pattern until it becomes more familiar than the old one.

In today's episode, I'm sitting down with scientist and skincare innovator Alessandra Zonari to uncover the fascinating connection between skin health and overall longevity. Whether you're dealing with premature aging, inflammation, or just want to understand how to better care for your skin, this conversation reveals groundbreaking research about peptides and their role in skin regeneration.

105. The Hidden Hormone Havoc: Wrecking Your Mood, Sleep & Energy with Dr. Carrie Jones18 Feb 202500:38:42

Have you ever noticed that your allergy symptoms seem to flare up at certain times in your cycle? Or that your migraines, fatigue, or skin issues seem to follow a pattern each month? It turns out, your hormones and histamine levels are more connected than you might think.

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Carrie Jones, an internationally recognized expert in women's health and hormones, to break down this fascinating link. We uncover how estrogen affects histamine, why perimenopause can send symptoms into overdrive, and what you can do to regain balance.

If you've been struggling with cyclical symptoms and haven't been able to pinpoint the cause, this episode is a must-listen.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hormones and Histamine: The Surprising Connection
Estrogen plays a direct role in how your body processes histamine, which is why some women feel more allergic, itchy, or inflamed around ovulation and their cycle.

  • Why Your Symptoms Fluctuate Throughout the Month
Your hormones shift every single day, influencing histamine levels. This explains why you might feel great one week and miserable the next.

  • Perimenopause and the Hormone Rollercoaster
As you approach menopause, estrogen and progesterone become unpredictable, leading to increased histamine-related issues like headaches, fatigue, skin reactions, and sleep disturbances.

  • Migraines, PMS, and the Histamine Link
Many hormonal migraines are tied to histamine spikes. If you get migraines around ovulation or before your period, histamine might be a key player.

  • How to Test for Histamine and Hormone Imbalances
From symptom tracking to blood tests and DUTCH testing, here's how to uncover whether histamine is driving your hormonal chaos.

  • The Role of Progesterone in Keeping Histamine in Check
Low progesterone means estrogen and histamine can run wild, creating a cascade of inflammation and symptoms. Supporting progesterone levels can be a game-changer.

  • Practical Steps to Balance Hormones and Reduce Histamine Symptoms
Learn the key nutrients and lifestyle changes—like magnesium, zinc, and toxin reduction—that can help regulate both hormones and histamine for long-term relief.

Understanding the connection between histamine and hormones is empowering. If you've been dealing with unexplained symptoms like migraines, itchy skin, bloating, or fatigue that seem to cycle with your hormones, you're not imagining it—there's a real biological link. By identifying patterns, testing the right markers, and making targeted adjustments, you can start feeling better.

102. Ayurvedic Healing for Modern Health – Ancient Wisdom Meets Science with Dr. Monish Bhanote28 Jan 202500:25:15

Understanding Ayurveda for Better Health and Balance

Are you feeling fatigued, battling digestive issues, or struggling with hormonal imbalances? Do you find modern medicine's one-size-fits-all solutions frustrating and ineffective? If so, you're not alone. Many people are turning to ancient healing systems like Ayurveda for answers. Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old holistic health system, can help you understand your body's unique constitution, or dosha, to restore balance and vitality. This episode dives into the connection between Ayurveda, gut health, and histamine imbalances, offering actionable tips to bring your body back into harmony.

Key Points

  • What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old holistic health system focusing on balance in three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas represent combinations of the five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. When imbalanced, they can lead to health issues like irritability, digestive problems, or sluggishness.

  • Understanding Your Dosha and Constitution
Everyone is born with a specific dosha composition, influenced by genetics and environment. This section discusses characteristics of each dosha, such as fiery Pitta, airy Vata, and grounded Kapha, and their roles in physical and mental health.

  • The Gut Health and Histamine Connection
Ayurvedic principles focus on digestion (Agni) as a cornerstone of health. Poor digestion leads to toxin build-up (Ama), which can trigger histamine reactions. Learn how Ayurveda addresses gut issues through dietary and lifestyle adjustments.

  • Foods for Balancing Doshas and Reducing Histamine

    • Pitta (Fire and Water): Avoid spicy, oily, and acidic foods. Opt for cooling options like cucumber and watermelon.

    • Vata (Air and Space): Emphasize grounding, cooked foods like root vegetables and soups.

    • Kapha (Water and Earth): Incorporate lighter, spiced meals to boost digestion.

  • Ayurvedic Herbs and Lifestyle Practices
Explore how herbs like tulsi, ashwagandha, and coriander support balance. Learn lifestyle tips such as stress management, detox practices, and how ancient Ayurvedic wisdom aligns with modern functional medicine.

Balancing your doshas with Ayurveda offers a personalized, holistic approach to health. By understanding your unique constitution, you can manage issues like fatigue, gut imbalances, and hormonal disruptions naturally. Ayurveda isn't just about treating symptoms—it's about aligning with your body's natural rhythm for long-term wellness.

Curious about what your dosha is or how Ayurvedic practices can benefit your health? Tune in to discover actionable insights that can help you regain balance and vitality today!

101. Low-Histamine Cooking Made Easy with a Celebrity Chef James Barry21 Jan 202500:37:40

Are you tired of feeling restricted by your food choices due to histamine intolerance? Does the idea of managing your symptoms without sacrificing flavor seem impossible? In this episode, we're tackling the Low Histamine Diet head-on with culinary expert James Barry.

We explore how to eat delicious, satisfying meals that support your health, without the overwhelm. If you've ever struggled with leftovers, processed foods, or the tricky task of avoiding high-histamine ingredients, this conversation is for you.

James, a celebrity chef with over 16 years of experience, shares his journey and practical tips for navigating the world of food sensitivities. From real, unprocessed foods to the hidden pitfalls of "all-natural" labels, this episode dives deep into what it truly means to cook for health. Let's break down the myths and arm you with actionable strategies to enjoy food again, even with histamine intolerance.

Key Points:

  • The truth about processed foods and why they're sabotaging your health goals
We discuss the importance of eating real ingredients instead of processed products. Misleading claims on food packaging can hide unwanted additives, and even "organic" options might still come with chemical coatings.

  • Understanding the histamine load: What foods should you avoid and why?
We break down the confusing list of high-histamine foods. Things like ripe fruit and processed meats often raise questions, and we share tips on how to identify which ones might be triggering issues for you.

  • How to manage histamine intolerance without feeling overwhelmed
We talk about the mindset shift needed to avoid the trap of perfectionism. It's about listening to your body and becoming a "food detective" to figure out what works and what doesn't—rather than trying to follow rigid rules.

  • Practical kitchen tips for a low-histamine diet
We cover strategies to prevent histamine build-up, such as handling leftovers quickly and focusing on fresh ingredients. Slow eating and mindful meal prep can also make a big difference in how you feel afterward.

  • Navigating the grocery store with histamine intolerance: What to buy and what to avoid
We discuss the importance of reading labels and staying aware of unregulated flavor additives. Making thoughtful, informed decisions helps ensure you choose foods that support rather than sabotage your health.

  • Why local sourcing matters for managing histamine intolerance
We explain how buying directly from local farmers can significantly reduce the histamine load. When you know exactly where your food comes from, it's easier to trust what goes into it—and that extra step can be well worth the effort.

This episode is a must-listen if you're struggling with histamine intolerance and want to enjoy food again. James Barry delivers practical, grounded advice on how to simplify your approach to food without sacrificing taste. With his tips, you'll be able to create meals that not only fit your health needs but also bring back the joy of eating. Whether it's navigating the grocery store or rethinking how you prepare meals, you'll come away with actionable steps you can start implementing today. Don't forget – the low histamine diet is a tool, not the solution itself. Find the root cause of your histamine intolerance, and let food be a part of your healing journey.

98. Understanding Complex Chronic Illness and How to Incorporate Peptides with Dr. Nafysa Parpia31 Dec 202400:32:21

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by ongoing, mysterious symptoms, only to be told your condition doesn't fit a neat diagnosis? If you're someone grappling with chronic illness, you've probably experienced the frustration of being treated as just another case of "chronic fatigue" or "fibromyalgia." But what if I told you that there's more going on beneath the surface, and that your body's multiple systems are involved in ways conventional medicine may not fully understand? That's what today's episode is all about. We're diving into the root causes behind chronic illness.

If you're tired of searching for answers and ready to explore the complex web of infections, toxins, immune dysregulation, and even trauma that might be contributing to your symptoms, you're in the right place.

Key Points:

  • Why Chronic Illness Is Often Misunderstood
Modern medicine frequently approaches illness with a one-diagnosis-fits-all mindset. Chronic illnesses like Lyme, fibromyalgia, and long COVID involve multiple systems and causes. Treating these conditions requires more than a single treatment plan.

  • Five Root Causes of Chronic Illness
We explain the five major causes contributing to chronic illness: infections, toxins, structural issues, diet, and lifestyle (including trauma). These are not isolated factors but interact to create a unique health profile for each person.

  • Why Inflammation Is Not Always Temporary
Inflammation is meant to be a short-term response, but in many chronic illnesses, it becomes an ongoing issue, causing more harm than healing. This continuous inflammation is a hallmark of conditions like MCAS.

  • The Cell Danger Response and Genetic Factors
Chronic illness often involves what's called the "Cell Danger Response," where the body gets stuck in a protective state due to past trauma or exposure to toxins. Dr. Naviaux's research reveals that different people with the same diagnosis may have entirely different biochemical and genetic pathways leading to their symptoms.

Chronic illnesses are far more complex than many are led to believe. Understanding that there's no one-size-fits-all solution is the first step toward healing. Each person's chronic illness journey is unique, with multiple root causes and complex triggers at play. By identifying these factors and addressing them holistically, we can begin to reverse the immune dysregulation that drives inflammation and worsens symptoms.

So, if you're tired of quick fixes that don't work and want to address your chronic illness at its core, this episode is for you. Let's get to the root of your health challenges together, and find lasting solutions that are as unique as you are.

97. What is MCAS? Everything You Need to Know About Mast Cell Activation with Dr. Tania Dempsey24 Dec 202400:35:46

Are you or someone you love struggling with mysterious, multi-system symptoms—ranging from skin rashes and digestive issues to migraines and unexplained fatigue? You might have been searching for answers but keep hitting dead ends. If you've ever wondered if these diverse and seemingly unrelated symptoms could be connected, it might be time to consider Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). MCAS is a condition that affects up to 20% of the population, yet it remains underdiagnosed and misunderstood. In today's episode, I'll be walking you through the ins and outs of MCAS, from how it's diagnosed to the practical steps you can take for treatment. If you're feeling frustrated by traditional medicine's inability to connect the dots on your health issues, this episode will provide some much-needed clarity.

Let's explore how MCAS could be the missing link in your health journey and what you can do about it.

Key Points:

  • What is MCAS and Why It's Misunderstood
MCAS is a multi-system inflammatory condition affecting various parts of the body, causing symptoms like skin rashes, digestive issues, and fatigue. Often misunderstood, MCAS can go undiagnosed for years as patients seek answers from multiple specialists.

  • Dr. Dempsey's Journey to MCAS Expertise
Dr. Tania Dempsey shares her personal journey into recognizing MCAS in her patients, explaining how her curiosity and persistence led her to uncover MCAS as a common, yet often overlooked condition affecting many of her patients.

  • How MCAS is Diagnosed: Laboratory Markers and Clinical Features
Diagnosing MCAS requires looking at specific clinical features and laboratory markers. Blood and urine tests can reveal mast cell mediators, while biopsies from gastrointestinal scoping procedures can show elevated mast cells in tissue samples. This segment discusses the complexities and difficulties in obtaining a definitive diagnosis.

  • The Role of Triggers in MCAS
Identifying triggers is crucial in managing MCAS. Dr. Dempsey explains how some triggers can be environmental, while others may be internal, making them difficult to pinpoint. Understanding your specific triggers is key to effective treatment.

  • Treatment Options for MCAS: Antihistamines and Beyond
The first line of treatment often includes antihistamines—both H1 and H2 blockers. This segment covers how trial and error is often needed to find the right combination for each individual. Natural options like Vitamin C and quercetin are also explored, offering listeners alternatives to pharmaceutical interventions.

  • Living with MCAS: Individualized Treatment Approaches
One size does not fit all when it comes to managing MCAS. Dr. Dempsey highlights the importance of a personalized approach, where patients must try different treatments systematically to find what works for them. The need for patience and persistence in the journey to wellness is emphasized.

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome might be the missing piece in your complex health puzzle. Whether you're dealing with unexplained chronic symptoms or feeling frustrated by a lack of answers, understanding MCAS could bring you closer to relief. The key takeaway from today's episode is that while diagnosing and treating MCAS can be challenging, it is possible—and it starts with understanding your body's unique triggers. With a combination of personalized treatments, patience, and persistence, you can regain control of your health.

If any of this sounds familiar, I encourage you to explore MCAS further and, if necessary, find a practitioner knowledgeable in its diagnosis and treatment. Let's continue this journey toward better health—one piece of the puzzle at a time.

96. Heal Your Gut, Reduce Inflammation: Key Strategies with Dr. David Jockers17 Dec 202400:40:30

Are you dealing with persistent symptoms like digestive issues, inflammation, or even migraines that just won't go away, despite making all the "right" lifestyle changes? In this episode, I sat down with Dr. David Jockers to discuss a critical but often overlooked root cause of many chronic health problems: leaky gut.

Leaky gut, also known as intestinal permeability, is when the tight junctions in your gut lining weaken and allow undigested food particles, toxins, and bacteria to leak into your bloodstream. This triggers inflammation throughout the body and can wreak havoc on your immune system, leading to a cascade of symptoms that may seem unrelated to gut health at first glance.

Dr. Jockers breaks down how this process works and explains why healing your gut is essential for overcoming conditions like histamine intolerance and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). If you've been experiencing strange or hard-to-explain symptoms, this episode could offer the insight you need to get to the root of the problem.

Key Points:

  • The Basics of Leaky Gut and Why It Matters
Leaky gut occurs when the gut lining becomes compromised, allowing harmful substances to pass into the bloodstream, triggering inflammation and immune reactions throughout the body.
  • The Gut-Immune System Connection
Dr. Jockers emphasizes how 70-80% of your immune system is located in the gut, making gut health a crucial factor in overall immune function and resilience.
  • Foods and Toxins That Contribute to Leaky Gut
Learn about common dietary triggers and environmental toxins that damage the gut lining, including processed foods, pesticides, and chronic stress.
  • The Role of Histamine in Leaky Gut and MCAS
High histamine levels can exacerbate leaky gut by increasing inflammation and further breaking down the gut lining, creating a vicious cycle of symptoms.
  • Practical Tips for Healing Your Gut
Discover simple but effective strategies for repairing your gut lining, including nutrient-dense diets, stress management, and targeted supplements like digestive enzymes and probiotics.

Taking Control of Your Gut Health

Leaky gut is more than just a digestive issue—it can be the root cause of everything from chronic fatigue to migraines and autoimmune conditions. By addressing the underlying inflammation in your gut, you can begin to resolve these symptoms and take control of your health.

If you're ready to start healing your gut and breaking the cycle of chronic symptoms, listen to the full episode to get actionable steps that can make a real difference. Why Your Labs Look "Normal"—But You Still Feel Off
Functional Testing Secrets to Solve Fatigue, Hormone Imbalance, and Gut Issues

Are you constantly told your labs look "fine," yet you feel anything but fine?

Fatigue, brain fog, stubborn weight, hormonal chaos, and digestive issues like bloating or IBS symptoms are all signs that your body is asking for help—but your standard lab work isn't giving you the answers.

In this episode, I'm walking you through the exact functional lab tests I use in practice to uncover the root causes of energy crashes, perimenopausal symptoms, weight loss resistance, gut health imbalances, and more. These tests go far beyond what you're used to from conventional medicine—and they've changed the game for hundreds of my clients.

We're talking about the kind of testing that doesn't just tell you if something is in range… but shows us if your body is actually functioning the way it's supposed to. We look at hormone pathways, digestion, detox capacity, mitochondrial energy production, gut microbiome patterns, and even hidden nutrient deficiencies that affect everything from metabolism to mood.

If you're struggling with low energy, hormone imbalance, unresolved gut symptoms, or just can't seem to get your health back no matter how "clean" you eat… this episode will open your eyes to what's possible.

When we shift from asking "what's wrong?" to "how is my body functioning?"—that's when the transformation begins. These functional labs don't just give us numbers. They show us your body's story.

I've seen symptoms like IBS, migraines, bloating, insomnia, hormonal weight gain, and even mood swings melt away when we stop guessing and start testing the right way.

You deserve more than "your labs are normal." If you're ready to finally understand why your energy, digestion, or hormones feel off—even if your doctor says everything looks fine—this episode will give you the insight and empowerment you need.
