45 The Stages of workplace transitions, New jobs and promotions

Episode 45

lundi 23 septembre 2024Duration 17:34

Send us a text

This episode talks about workplace transitions that can take many forms, new job, new team, promotion, retirement, workplace reorganisation and many more.

The 3 stages of transition
The Ending Stage, the Neutral Stage, and the New Beginning Stage.

Each stage involves different feelings & processes. Sometimes, you can deal with one stage before moving to the next. Other times, you can move back and forth between stages.

The Ending Stage

Every transition starts with an ending. Acknowledging that things have changed and you will lose or miss something because of it. Its ok to spend some time grieving the loss before thinking about the future.

In some situations, you may also have conflicting feelings of relief or excitement.

Its valid to express any negative emotions but don't take them out on the people around you.

The Neutral Stage
The Neutral Stage can be uncomfortable. You are moving from your comfort zone and may be uncertain about what your future will look like. You may feel a bit wobbly but thats ok.

This is a stage where you have the greatest opportunity to learn about yourself, to reflect and consider making some improvements.

Take the time to question, reflect, talk to other people, explore options, and search for answers. For example:

  • Think about what you liked and didn’t like about your old job.
  • Think about how your habits in the old job, do you want to bring all of them with you?
  • How do you want to learn in this new situation?

Getting things done at this stage may seem to take a lot more effort than it usually does. Creating and maintaining a regular routine will help to keep you going, especially if your routine includes lots of rest and exercise.

The New Beginning Stage
The good news when you reach this stage you start to feel more energetic and hopeful. You have done some of the thinking and exploring you needed to do and are ready to move on, try new things, or taking a calculated risk.

At this stage, you may feel both excited and a little nervous about the future. Though you still don’t know how everything will work out, you are moving forward.

44. Tips for developing Healthy Habits

Episode 44

lundi 16 septembre 2024Duration 17:41

Send us a text

This episode has a focus on building healthy Habits, listen in but here is a list to keep for future reference

  • Plan. Identify unhealthy patterns and triggers, think about how nice it will be to move on and fill that space with healthier habits you wish for. Set realistic goals. Write down steps to help you achieve them.
  • Change your surroundings. Find ways to make healthier choices easy choices. Remove temptations, or maybe your route or your usual routine.
  • Ask for support. Find friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, or groups for support or ask people to join you. Other people knowing we are planning change can make us more accountable.
  • Fill your time with healthy activities. Try exercise, a favorite hobby, or spending time with family and friends. Healthy is body and mind, so this could be meditation , reading a book, speaking to a friend.
  • Track your progress. Record how things are going to help you stay focused and celebrate those small successes
  • Imagine the future. Think about future benefits to stay on track, small steps will all add up in a years time.
  • Reward yourself. Give yourself a healthy reward when you’ve achieved a small goal or milestone, like a massage or personal time.
  • Be patient. Improvement takes time, and setbacks happen. Focus on progress, not perfection. Just doing a new healthy thing 80% of the time is going to make a big difference
