165. Reclaiming Queer History: The Impact of LGBTQ+ Historical Fiction (with Jeza Belle)

Episode 165

mardi 4 novembre 2025Duration 33:02

LGBTQ+ history has long been overlooked, ignored, or actively erased, leaving us with only fragments of a past that deserves to be preserved and celebrated. That absence makes historical fiction a meaningful platform for reclaiming space and allowing queer characters to exist in time periods that have traditionally denied their presence or humanity.

In this episode, Jeza Belle, a New York City-based drag queen and author of The Freedom to Love, joins us to discuss the power of storytelling through historical fiction and the importance of preserving LGBTQIA+ narratives in overlooked time periods.

In this episode, we’re diving into the island's rich history, tracing its evolution from a secluded getaway for artists and bohemians to a thriving vacation destination for the queer community, and discussing the growing threat it faces from the impacts of climate change.

63. The Stonewall Riots

Episode 63

mardi 27 juin 2023Duration 20:26

In 1960s New York City, gay men needed a safe space to socialize without being arrested, which resulted in many frequenting private bottle clubs, like the Stonewall Inn, which was owned by the Mafia. On June 28, 1969, during a routine police raid, patrons were fed up and resisted.

In this episode, we’re discussing the iconic Stonewall riots, which became a symbol of resistance to social and political discrimination that would inspire solidarity among homosexual groups for decades.

In this episode, Eric Feltes, actor, writer, and life coach, joins us to discuss his spiritual journey, balancing sexuality and faith, and how gay men can overcome their religious trauma to live their authentic lives.
