| 7 Essential Bhagavad Gita Verses (And How To Imbibe Them) | a Curious Yogi | 12 May 2026 | 00:26:03 | |
Season 5 of A Curious Yogi is here. I’m so happy to begin this season with a solo episode exploring an essential teaching from my teacher, Swamiji, who encouraged everyone to learn and memorize these seven verses from the Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2, verses 19–25). He described them as containing the essence of the entire scripture. In this episode, I share some of Swamiji’s reflections and commentary, attempt to sing the Sanskrit verses myself (eek), and explore ways we can read, contemplate, and meditate on this timeless text as modern seekers. Some key themes from the conversation:
If this episode gives you even a small glimpse into the depth and beauty of the Gita, I’d love for you to join me this June for an 18-week reading, study, and meditation group: 18 chapters in 18 weeks. All sessions will be recorded, so there’s no pressure to attend live every time. And Patreon members receive 50% off the full offering. More than anything, I’m excited to explore this mystical and practical scripture intentionally with the curious yogi sangha. | Sadhana, Sobriety, & the Steps | A Curious Yogi | 12 Aug 2024 | 00:42:22
“Being truly conscious requires stepping back from compulsions and attachments - a change in the operating system. And sometimes we need a helping hand for that. We can’t do it alone, nor should we have to.” For me, the healing, the coming home, starts with shame. And is currently seeped in gratitude. In this solo episode, I share my personal story woven together with words from wise teachers and thinkers. Borrowed from the sages, saints and sponsors who have inspired my own inquiry into addiction, mental health and healing, I share my take aways from 6 years of sobriety. The intention in this honest, and unpolished episode is to share my hope, courage and strength for any other yogis or seekers out there struggling with addictions, compulsions and their own "stinking thinking". Let’s all remember Swamiji’s words; “God lives in the effort.” In this episode, I mention a few resources ➖Yoga and the 12 Steps: www.y12sr.com ➖And check out this lit Season 1, Episode 25 with Nikki in season 1 HERE ➖Gabor Mate’s book, “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction” HERE And, connect below if you’d like to connect or reflect privately on this episode. | Applying Ancient Ayurveda To Modern Life, Stress & ADHD | Anette Christensen | 10 Dec 2025 | 00:48:37
"It's never too late to make changes and reconnect with nature." In today's delightful conversation, I speak with a dear friend and colleague, Anette Christensen, a certified Ayurvedic health counsellor, therapist, and founder of Ayurvedic Center Malmö. We delve into the ancient practice of Ayurveda, exploring its principles, applications in modern life, and the importance of daily routines for maintaining balance. Anette highlights the significance of understanding one's dosha and the practical steps individuals can take to integrate Ayurvedic practices into their daily lives for improved well-being. Ayurveda and Yoga are sister philosophies and applied lifestyles, which is why I find this talk so relevant for all the curious yogis out there. The interconnectedness of mind, body, and nature - the need for a holistic approach to health and wellness. Here are some big takeaways; ➖Understanding your dosha is key to personal health. ➖Daily routines and practices are essential for maintaining balance. ➖The opposite balances: understanding how to counteract imbalances in life. ➖Sleep is crucial for mental and physical health. ➖Ayurveda emphasizes prevention rather than just treatment. ➖Creating a lifestyle around Ayurveda leads to long-term health benefits. Find Anette at the beautiful Ayurvedic Center in Malmö, Sweden – my yoga home away from home, a quiet oasis in busy city life. And join us! Upcoming courses with me and Anette, along with our Deep Winter Day Retreat on December 28th. “Take that 7 minutes (meditation) a day. He teaches Somatics, Restorative Movement & QiGong at the Wisdom of Meditation Centre in Te Horo, New Zealand. Today I’m joined live in Sainj Valley, Himachal Pradesh, with a wonderful teacher, satsangee and great human being who I’m honoured to call my friend - Vijay Shyam. Check out season 1 episode 5 for the first conversation we had on the podcast, where Vijay shares his stories and insights and his meeting with Baba Vivekanand almost 40 years ago. As Vijay and I adventured for a few days in the Himalayas, we had a special meeting with this very same Baba before we recorded this episode. As we discuss what we’re experiencing and understanding in our own sadhana, highlighted by the teachings of our shared Guru, Babaji, and other enlightened beings, I’ve clipped in some of our talk with Babaji from his little room at the temple. Here are some of the major points we circle on: ➖08:55 Place everything at the feet of Guru ➖16:52 The world will keep pushing your buttons ➖18:01 How to be like the trees meditating ➖22:09 Grief of death and knowing unborn ➖34:30 We are the eternal Being, not beings ➖42:35 Babaji and Zero-ness - just empty your thoughts ➖49:29 Burning karm and don’t interfere with nature ➖55:42 Guidance is important - hold somebody’s hand to walk this road ➖61: 50 Surrender everything, even Sattwa or goodness ➖1:08:10 Making any being less than God is a kind of violence Connect with Vijay Shyam at www.nondual.dk www.linktr.ee/vijayshyam108 This delightful and deep conversation focuses on egolessness, surrender, death and living a truly illuminated life of oneness by knowing all as God, or Guru. | What is the ultimate resolution you can never fail at? | 31 Dec 2023 | 00:25:30
Swamiji's words ring true today; "Saadhaana, or practice, is only relevant when you as your source are united to the Whole, and that is called Yog." Today I share thoughts on the nature of the mind, resolutions or Sankalp, and how social media can keep us in conflict. I invite you to contemplate the following in your sadhana; ➖ How does your mind work? Why do you think, feel, act, and relate the way you do? ➖ What might your life look like if your resolution was to simply know, accept and love yourself? ➖ What can you turn your attention towards that illuminates the perfection and wholeness of who you are beyond your personality? Let me know your resolutions and your reflections on where you're free and where you still have work to do. Thank you for being here, and sharing this path of sadhana together. Ok you want to live in peace? Me too! Today I touch on the first golden principle of the yamas - ahimsa or non-harming. Plus 4 practical ways to start observing ahimsa in action in your own life. | From Sobriety to Spirituality | Alexandra McRobert | 07 Nov 2025 | 00:57:15
"The goal is to advance to consciousness." In this episode, I chat with Alexandra McRobert - yoga teacher, writer, podcast host, and lifelong student of spiritual wisdom. She created Sober Yoga Girl as a sanctuary for seekers on the path of healing - those navigating recovery from addiction, trauma, and mental health challenges, or just the overwhelm of being human in this modern world. And she’s also a fellow Canadian (living abroad like me!). Alex shares her personal journey from Canada to teaching yoga abroad, her struggles with alcohol, and how sobriety transformed her life and practice. The conversation delves into the importance of community in recovery, the shift from ego to authenticity in teaching, and the role of meditation in yoga. Here are some takeaways; ➖ Building a community is essential for recovery and growth. ➖Authenticity in teaching comes from personal experience and humility. ➖ Meditation is a crucial practice for yoga teachers. ➖ Teacher training should focus on personal development and self-discipline. ➖ Curiosity and continuous learning are vital for personal growth. ➖ The impact of past experiences shapes future teaching methods. | Dive Deep: Why Yoga Is More Than Just A Physical Destination | Myra Khanna | 23 Feb 2026 | 00:53:54
“Practicing yoga is not really something separate from me. It is happening all the time.” In this episode of a Curious Yogi Podcast, yoga teacher Myra Khanna shares her journey from Kathak dancer and scuba diving instructor to dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher. Drawing from studies with Bharath Shetty, Vinay Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Deepika Mehta, Mark Robberds, Eddie Stern, and ongoing training with Yoga Education College, Myra reflects on her evolution from a physically driven Ashtanga practice to a more holistic exploration of pranayama, meditation, and nervous system regulation. The conversation explores the commercialization of yoga, misconceptions about yoga in India, female health awareness in asana practice, and the parallels between diving and meditative practice. Myra also shares how traditional strength disciplines like mudgar swinging, dandas, and baithaks inform her approach to resilience and sustainability in practice. Here are some key takeaways; ➖ Transition from purely physical to a more holistic practice. ➖ Emphasize the importance of listening to one's body and nervous system. ➖ Commercialization of yoga impacts its true essence. ➖ Teaching should accommodate students' individual needs and journeys. ➖ Diving parallels the meditative aspects of yoga. ➖ Myra’s passion for education on female health in yoga after becoming unwell. | Being A Humble Student, Yoga Retreats & The Inner Life | Yarmila Alfonzetti | 25 Sep 2025 | 01:14:25
"It's so scary to be nobody." In this episode, I’m talking with Yarmila Alfonzetti, one of Australia’s leading arts professionals, a mother, a wife, a friend, and, in the truest sense of the word, a curious yogi. Yarmila joins me with so much joy and openness to share her journey as a yogi. Together, we dive into themes of identity, ego, and what makes yoga retreats so special. She speaks about the gift of silence in practice, the experience of bliss, and how personal growth brings its own responsibilities. Along the way, we reflect on the wisdom of our many teachers and the transformative power of retreats, reminding us that yoga is truly a lifelong journey of self-discovery and deeper understanding. Here are a few of the nuggets we explore: ➖ Accepting our inner seeking nature can be challenging. ➖ The ego can be a significant barrier to growth. ➖ Silence and meditation become more important as practice deepens. ➖ The path of seeking is often filled with challenges and fears. ➖ Morality and kindness are essential in the pursuit of truth. ➖ Yoga retreats offer space for real learning and personal growth. I loved this candid and spontaneous conversation with Yarmila. She mentioned that she always tries to be the best person in the room, and I believe she truly is. This chat really feels like sitting down with two friends, and I think you’ll feel that too. ✨ Also, tune in to the intro for a special scholarship offer for our India retreat—open to one of our Curious Yogi Podcast listeners! | Why Practice Evolves & Truth Remains | Satsang with Jyoti | 23 Jan 2026 | 01:05:37
"The truth is such an attractive pursuit." In this episode, I share an illuminating conversation with Jyoti, a devoted meditator who has spent decades exploring the depths of her sadhana. Our dialogue begins with Jyoti reflecting on her journey to India, where she found both her spiritual home and a deeper understanding of herself. She shares how her former life as a professional dancer—filled with intensity and chaos—ultimately led her toward yoga and meditation, and to the ashram where she met her teacher, Swami Shyam. From there, the conversation unfolds into a rich exploration of conviction in spiritual practice. Jyoti reminds us that while practices naturally evolve over time, the truth remains constant—alive, expansive, and ever-revealing. Some highlights; ➖ Yoga is always interpreted through the mind of the listener. ➖ Practices change over time, but conviction in truth remains. ➖ Meditation is a doorway into a subtler reality beyond thought. ➖ The mind is not qualified to tell you who you are—it creates problems and then attempts to solve them. ➖ By changing your thoughts, you can change your experience. Jyoti invites us into a more spacious relationship with practice—one rooted not in rigidity, but in freedom, discernment, and a steady conviction in who we truly are beyond the mind. It’s such a joy to share these satsang conversations with you. They are true jewels—offering sincere expressions and perspectives from luminous beings like Jyoti. I trust you’ll feel inspired to stand with greater conviction in the truth of who you are. in oneness, Bobbi Thanks for listening! 💭Support the podcast Patreon Page and join monthly satsangs 💭 If you liked this episode, please leave a review – it really, really helps the show reach more people, plus I love reading each one. 💭 Share your biggest takeaway on Instagram stories @bobbipaidel 💭Join me in northern India for the Yog Sadhana Retreat Himalaya March 2026 HERE 💭 If you’d like to chat about the show, be a guest, or practice together - Let’s connect! 🙏♥️✨
| Yoga Sadhana as a Path of Remembering: Season 4 Finale | a Curious Yogi & Guests | 16 Mar 2026 | 01:04:54 | |
Season 4 comes to a close with reflection on the biggest themes, teachings, and truths that wove through this season of a Curious Yogi Podcast. This closing episode is not a “best of,” but a look back at some of the timeless wisdom shared by this season’s guests. Through conversations on sadhana, meditation, tradition, fear, service, openness, devotion, and the deeper heart of yoga, one thread keeps returning: yoga is a path of remembering. Remembering what practice is for. Remembering how to meet the mind. Remembering how to stay present in the paradox of being human. Remembering how to listen, how to serve, and how to remain open. And most deeply, most essentially, emembering who we truly are. This finale highlights reflections and insights inspired by conversations with Jyoti, Nicki, Katharine, Deep, Vijay, Rodrigo, Sheila, Philippe, Reema, Abhaya, Hirdaya, and Zach — and closes Season 4 with reverence, gratitude, and a reminder that while truth may be shared, the path is lived in a deeply personal way. “One is to become an unprejudiced observer, a yogi. | What does the Avadhoot Gita reveal about the state of Bliss? | Seegla Vistar Brecher | 18 Jan 2024 | 01:11:33
“Life as the unfoldment of bliss through the journey of self enquiry - this was the only thing that made sense to me.” Today’s brilliant conversation is a peek into the lesser-known and profound Avadhoot Gita with a very special yogi, author, musician and teacher, Seegla Vistar Brecher. The Avadhoot Gita of Dattatraya: Song of the Unborn is a deep, meditative exploration of a 9th-century Advaita Vedanta text. Vistar offers her unique vision and interpretation of the Avadhoot and reveals the essence behind our collective, universal journey. We touch on so much! But here are a few key moments: ➖13:50 Vistars Sadhana, how do you live the freedom you know exists? ➖18:38 Advadhoot describes all pairs of opposites of the human condition and transcends them ➖26:41 Reading Chapter 6 verse 3: The mind as blissful ➖36:24 The essence of the practice is when you know there is no separation between you and the world ➖46:26 The choice of the yogi is to walk through the portal ➖56:13 Reading Chapter 7 verse 9: The yogi is both free from yog and lack of yoga ➖1:02:31 Reading Chapter 7 verse 4: Where does the unease come from? | How do we move toward honouring the beauty, integrity & validity of every person on the planet? | Ned Rosch | 15 Nov 2023 | 01:10:15
“If we can begin to see that there is a power and deep soul connection to that concept which really rings true in all of our hearts at some level, if we clear away or dust away that baggage that gets in way of that reality that we want freedom. All of us. Spiritual and political. And the only way to get there is justice and equality for all peoples.” This weeks episode is an important one as I share in deep conversation with Ned Rosch a certified yoga teacher and social justice activist based out of Portland, Oregon. Ned is a graduate of The Center for Mind-Body Medicine’s ‘Healing the Wounds of War’ program, has taught yoga in Gaza in 2014 and 2020 and authored a chapter in the book ‘Stories of Personal Transformation: Reclaiming Judaism from Zionism’ Today we touch on Ned’s spiritual journey, the facts of the current situation of Israel and historical palestine, and he really helps me understand the importance of learning the historical context as a precursor to any action or inaction in a deeply political time. We get into the powerful human impact that Ned has witnessed both during his time in Gaza and his advocacy work in the US. We speak about the discomfort of being a social justice yoga warrior and how important it is for each of us to find purpose and sustainable energy to feel connected to a journey that is meaningful and contributes to justice , peace and the liberation of all people. Important points: ➖ 14:15 What is zionism? ➖24:16 A cry heard from Jewish supporters of Palestine ➖26:13 How to not feel burn out and connected ➖28:17 Importance of understanding historical context ➖37:08 Where yoga is needed most ➖50:09 Religion is not the problem ➖58:59 Where we have to find meaning Ned speaks with such pristine clarity that brings our awareness to the heart of conflict - and simulantously to hope and possibility of peace. I invite you to really contemplate the topics Ned and I discuss for yourself - and consider your purpose and your part in that meaningful journey. in oneness, Bobbi Thanks for listening! 💭 If you liked this episode, please leave a review on Apple podcasts – it really, really helps the show reach more people, plus I love reading each one. 💭Never miss a new episode and subscribe on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or your favourite platform. 💭 Share your biggest takeaway on Instagram stories – just be sure to tag @bobbipaidel so we can connect 💭 If you’d like to chat about the show, offer feedback or be a guest, please get in touch. 💭 Want to go further into your understanding of yoga sadhana? The conversation delves into the essence of the witness self, the nature of the mind, and the path to liberation through meditation and self-awareness. Deep Priya explores and emphasizes the importance of being present in the moment, understanding the nature of thoughts, and the journey towards achieving peace through meditation. The discussion delves into the differences between samadhi and kevalya, the significance of Patanjali's wisdom in modern life, and the transformative power of meditation in accessing deeper states of consciousness. Here are some key takeaways: ➖Authenticity in dance and yoga comes from deep self-awareness ➖Patanjali's teachings serve as a guide for meditators seeking liberation ➖The witness self is a crucial aspect of understanding one's true nature ➖Meditation is essential for comprehending Patanjali's teachings ➖The mind's perception can be both beneficial and detrimental ➖Kundalini represents a deeper connection to the universe ➖The journey of self-discovery is ongoing and requires patience ➖The essence of yoga is to achieve peace, and peace is the ultimate goal of spiritual practice Make sure to head over to A Curious Yogi Patreon page to listen to Deep Priya's full audio track of Sanskrit singing Patanjali’s first Paad. And join me for Living Yoga Sadhana 6-week Immersion beginning May 18th HERE I truly enjoyed and was delighted by this conversation and all the inspiration and wisdom Deep Priya shared. | Philosophical Foundations Of Sankhya & Gyaan Yoga | Ram Jain | 06 Jun 2025 | 00:54:23
"A Sankhya Yogi loses ego every day. A Scholar gains ego every day.” In this episode, I chat with Ram Jain — a fifth-generation yogi and founder of Arhanta Yoga, with ashrams in both India and the Netherlands. Ram’s journey began at a Vedic school at age 8, and his life has since been dedicated to teaching yoga as a path to self-realization and empowerment. We talk about his evolution from aspiring dancer to spiritual teacher, how yoga is perceived differently across cultures, and the deeper meaning behind practices like Sankhya and Gyan Yoga. Ram has a beautiful way of flipping questions back on me, sparking some deep reflection on identity, ego, and the dance between individuality and oneness. He also shares practical advice on choosing a yoga teacher training, including the value of hands-on teaching and staying rooted in tradition. Takeaways from our conversation: ➖ Yoga is ultimately about coming home to yourself. ➖ Our background shapes how we understand and experience yoga. ➖ Some Western students find ideas like karma and reincarnation a bit unfamiliar at first. ➖ Sankhya Yoga brings a logical lens to deep questions about who we are. ➖ Life unfolds in its own perfect timing — things come when we’re ready. ➖ Each soul is unique, yet part of something greater. ➖ Yoga invites us to explore who we are beneath all the labels. ➖ A strong yoga teacher training should include real-world teaching practice. ➖ Experiencing yoga in its cultural roots can bring deeper insight and connection. | You Have Always Been Pure Awareness | Dikpal | 22 Apr 2025 | 01:09:55
“Be curious about the right stuff. Who are you really? Ask yourself, what’s the truth that never changes its truthfulness?” Today I’m joined by a real modern-day yogi and meditator live from the Himalayas. Mr. Richard Taylor became Dikpal when he met Swami Shyam in 1973. He’s been meditating ever since, and in this delightful and illuminating conversation, Dikpal shares his wisdom from living and studying with a Self-realized teacher for 50 years and coming to understand the purpose of this human life. We touch on a lot here, but here are just a few of the highlights: ➖ Journey from having it all and still being miserable to having an experience of “regaining the innocence and seeing the truth behind the appearances” ➖ “The experience of perfection, it’s like when you hear it, you know it in the deepest depths of your being as the truth”. ➖ Dikpal answers my question: What is that power that covers the sense of perfection in a human being? ➖ “The essence of sadhana, spiritual practice, to be this, that, no, it’s to know that you are pure being, untouchable by any event.” ➖ Yogastah: to be established in Yog ➖ Method of inquiry, meditation and mantra to open the direct experience ➖ “When you’re meditating, you let go of holding onto individual perception. The life, the awareness, is eternal, it is out of time.” You can’t really find Dikpal on the internet, but let us know what you think of this talk and how your meditation practice is going. I really enjoyed this conversation, both when we had it live in Dikpal's living room and then again when I listened to it, when I really needed it, back here in Sweden. It was refreshing to hear again about the inevitable covering power of the human being and how to always know how to return to that Pure Being in the practice of meditation - and of course, Satsang. | Illusion of Control | Good Company with Vijay Shyam | 25 Jun 2025 | 01:10:55
Embracing the Paradox. Hi Curious Yogis, I’m here with my friend Vijay and fellow meditator, and I’m so excited to share the first rendition of a new podcast format I'm calling Good Company. It’s a part of The Curious Yogi Podcast, created to offer something a little different: spontaneous, live-streamed satsang that invites you, the community of listeners and Patreon members, into deeper connection and active participation. In this inaugural conversation, recorded live in Copenhagen, we dive straight into the heart of what it means to walk the spiritual path while still being fully human. It’s a real, unscripted exchange. Just two seekers exploring the paradoxes of life and truth together. We touch on the nature of mind, the illusion of control, the role of desire and attachment, and reflect on timeless teachings like the Bhagavad Gita, all while holding space for not-knowing and being present with what is. Most of all, this episode is a celebration of satsang, the kind of good company that nourishes and supports true inquiry. In this episode:
🎧 About this Format Good Company is for all of us who want more live, engaged spiritual dialogue. It’s about presence over perfection, connection over performance. And it’s a way to offer more value and opportunities to get involved, especially for our Patreon supporters and Curious Yogi community. 🙏🏽 Thanks for being here. If this conversation resonates, we’d love to hear from you. Your presence and reflections are part of what makes this offering come alive. “So when you experience that peace, it's because it's your nature. Your real nature is peaceful. It is blissful. It is contented.” Wow, this is an incredible episode from early in September, recorded for the Good Company livestream series with my brilliant friend Katharine from Unchanging Being. She is a longtime meditator and a deeply wise teacher. We talked about the Gita, the Gunas, retraining the mind, meditation, and satsang (and more). | What Is The Goal of Sadhana? | Satsang with Lars Ims | 31 Dec 2024 | 00:59:05
“Sadhana is to realize the embodied being and know the difference. This human incarnation is something we have, it’s not what we are. Avidya is mistaking what we have for what we are.” Lars Ims is a meditator and author who has spent his life immersed in sadhana under the guidance of his Guru, Swami Shyam. He is also a friend, so he is the perfect yogi to discuss the real meaning of Sadhana. It’s such a great joy to share in the Satsang space, where he delivers the true meaning of sadhana, the importance of “sattwifying” our lives so the light of the Self can shine through, and ultimately, how meditation is the way. I love this conversation because it centers around freedom. Whether in the spiritual paths we explore, how we apply our critical thinking or how we move through the world with our dharmas - whatever we do, the Self is always free. Here are a few points we touched on; ➖ The goal of sadhana is to know the state which is always free ➖ The final step of sadhana cannot be an effort from your human side ➖ Vivek, vairagya, abhyasa ➖ The mind is not the problem - it’s how we relate to the mind ➖ Exploring sadhana and finding your own way to express your spiritual life Find Lars book HERE Connect with Lars on IG HERE Thanks for listening! 💭 Find the full show notes at www.bobbipaidel.com/podcast-s3-ep21-lars-ims 💭Support the podcast and join monthly satsangs at patreon.com/acuriousyogipodcast 💭 If you liked this episode, please leave a review on Apple podcasts – it really, really helps the show reach more people, plus I love reading each one. 💭 Share your biggest takeaway on Instagram stories @bobbipaidel 💭Join me in northern India for the Yog Sadhana Retreat Himalaya March 2025 bobbipaidel.com/himalayan-retreat 💭 If you’d like to chat about the show, be a guest, or practice together find me at bobbipaidel.com/connect 🙏♥️✨

She is a creator, a hiker, a wife, a friend, a generously giving spirit and she is a sadhak.
