Ep. 59 Healing Our Heroes Pt. 2 with 22Zero02 Apr 202400:57:33

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Dan Jarvis and Nick Davis, founders of 22ZERO on @A Badge of Honor Podcast.

Dan and Nick created the Tactical Resiliency Training (TRT). TRT consists of The Trauma Resiliency Protocol (TRP) for PTSD and acute stress and the Emotions management Process (EMP) for negative emotions like anger, anxiety, fear, sadness, survivor’s guilt, etc.

The goal in the Tactical Resiliency Training is to use no details about the traumatic incidents or the extreme negative emotions and avoid talking about the events.  Details get in the way of the brain’s natural ability to heal itself. Dan and Nick give the individual the resiliency skills to bounce back from trauma or extreme negative emotions, teaching their brain a new skill.  Effectively ending the symptoms associated with PTSD. Data on over 1000 clients prove the effective nature of TRT at ending PTSD symptoms in all the clients using the Trauma Resiliency Protocol (TRP).

To date, 22ZERO has trained 324 peer coaches who are veterans, US Border Patrol Agents, Deputy Sheriffs, Police Officers, Firefighters, the Florida National Guard, the Florida Air National Guard, and an Active Duty Special Forces Chaplain. “We are our brothers’ and our sisters’ healers.” To find out more visit https://22zero.org/

Sometimes Heroes Need Help With John Kelly19 Sep 202300:57:27

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with John Kelly on A Badge of Honor Podcast.

John is a life coach specializing in guiding & mentoring officers through life’s critical stages. He is is a thirty-year veteran of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, one of the largest sheriff’s offices in the country. John has been fortunate enough to have worked in and supervised the following units: Patrol, Investigations, K-9, Training, and for the past six years, the Motorcycle Unit. John has been involved in numerous critical incidents during his career. Early on, he was involved in a life changing fight for his life. Fresh out of the academy, John found himself in hand-to-hand combat with an armed, drug dealing, career criminal. This baptism of violence has contributed greatly in shaping John's passion and dedication to winning and realizing that we are responsible for our own survival and success.

During his career, John has been tasked with the development and implementation of numerous tactical programs and initiatives. He has had tremendous success in creating a positive and lasting shift in the mindset of those he has stood before. John has received countless awards and honors during his career. The vast majority of those incidents had a recurring theme: John placing himself in harm's way so that others may live, running towards danger, fully aware of the potential consequences. Cycling Coast to Coast With Conrad Weaver and John Patterson19 Sep 202300:58:15

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Conrad Weaver and John Patterson, fresh off their Coast-to-Coast bicycle tour raising awareness surrounding the struggles our first responders face every day on A Badge of Honor Podcast.

PTSD911 is a documentary film about real people: normal, average human beings who have chosen to work in professions that require above average heroism, fortitude, and resolve. These men and women have jobs that require a willingness to face things that most of us can’t even imagine, yet maintain a high level of dignity and professionalism. First responders in fact repeatedly see and experience things that most of us will never see, causing compound issues related to post-traumatic stress injuries and disorders. A Paratrooper's Guide to Life; How to Deal With Damn Near Anything14 Aug 202300:57:30

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with John McGlothlin, U.S. Army Airborne Captain, and author of How to Deal With Damn Near Anything - The Paratrooper's Guide to Life on A Badge of Honor Podcast.

There is a hidden side to the military—behind the stories of leadership and valor is a distinct culture that promotes personal growth and development. In How to Deal with Damn Near Anything: The Paratrooper’s Guide to Life, John McGlothlin shows how this culture can benefit anyone.

Using a mix of research and first-hand experience, McGlothlin distills this culture into five “inner traits” essential to facing any challenge. Each trait is examined in detail: what they mean, how they fit together, how to build them, and why being a paratrooper offers a unique perspective on doing so.

No place fuses personal and professional like the “airborne.” The result is a series of lessons no classroom or regular workplace can teach. You don’t have to enlist to learn them–you just have to embrace the right mix of practical thinking, honesty, and a desire to improve. How to Deal with Damn Near Anything will guide you through that process and put you on the right path for stability and success. Purchase the book here https://www.amzn.com/1636767516

Responder Resiliance Podcast Host David Dachinger, Firefighter EMT (Ret)18 Jul 202300:57:39

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with David Dachinger, retired firefighter / EMT, and host of Responder Resilience Podcast on A Badge of Honor Podcast.

Responder Resilience Podcast is a show featuring experts sharing wisdom and experience from the front lines of First Responder health and wellness.

More Fire, Police, and EMS personnel die by suicide than by the hazards of the job.  And research shows that up to a quarter of public safety dispatchers have symptoms of PTSD and depression.

In this silent worldwide crisis, First Responders are quietly suffering, due to stigmas around mental health services, and a lack of awareness about available vital resources to assist them. We can help the helpers.

Hosted by David Dachinger, retired fire lieutenant with over 20 years as a leader in emergency services, Dr. Stacy Raymond,  Clinical Psychologist and trauma specialist, and Bonnie C. Rumilly, LCSW and EMT who specializes in the treatment of First Responders. Follow them @https://www.respondertv.com/

S2. Ep. 47 Service Sacrifice and Unwavering Conviction with Doc Pete Chambers20 Jan 202600:59:11

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.), Special Forces Green Beret, Physician, and Gubernatorial Candidate for Texas "Doc" Pete Chambers on @A Badge of Honor TV.

Doc Pete’s story is one of service, sacrifice, and unwavering conviction. From the battlefield to the border, he’s answered the call to protect others. Now, he’s stepping up to lead Texas with courage and principle.

Dr. Pete Chambers is a decorated U.S. Army veteran whose remarkable 39-year military career includes service in the Active Duty, Reserves and the National Guard. He began his service as an enlisted infantryman and became a Senior Green Beret Officer and Special Operations Flight Surgeon. He was honored to serve Texans in the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) during his last eight years in uniform. Doc is a combat wounded, Purple Heart recipient and has also been awarded numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Medical Badge.

Doc began serving Texans in 1998 as a Resident Physician in Primary Care at Port Arthur, Texas. He entered back into Active-Duty service after 9/11. He returned to Texas in 2015 to serve as a Green Beret and then finally as a Task Force Surgeon assigned to Operation Lone Star (OLS). He entered the National Spotlight after he stood up to the unlawful orders imposed upon 6000 Texas Guardsmen by the DoD and the Texas Military Department. In 2022, Doc Pete again stepped into the national spotlight when Senator Ron Johnson named him as one of four DoD whistleblowers who exposed the dangers of the unlawfully mandated vaccine, going on to testify as a fact witness in the landmark Navy SEALs v. DoD case. Doc Pete’s courage and leadership under pressure helped reaffirm and protect the religious exemption rights of all U.S. servicemen. That action resulted in his being ostracized by the Texas Military Department and the loss of his position as the OLS Task Force Surgeon.

Following his untimely retirement from the Texas Army National Guard, Doc Pete founded and currently serves as President of the Remnant Ministry TX, an association of ministries that specializes in disaster relief and counter human trafficking. Of most recent note, the Remnant Ministry has been involved in Operations in Western North Carolina post Hurricane Helene, the fires in North Texas and the flooding along the Guadalupe corridor.

Doc Pete is the quintessential Warrior Diplomat. He is running for Governor in The Great State of Texas to bring a ‘servant’s heart’ ethos to Texan leadership. He is a champion of truth, transparency, and bold action to restore Texas as a stronghold of liberty. To quote Doc Pete, when asked his response to why he is running for the position of Senior Public Servant in Texas (Governor), his response; “It is the natural progression of a Godly man to see injustice and take a stand.” Find out more at https://docpetechambers.org/

Building Confidence, Changing Lives with Veteran Corena Mitchell16 May 202300:55:59

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with 16 year U.S. Army veteran Corena Mitchell and the Attitides and Attire Boots to Heels program director on a A Badge of Honor Podcast.

Corena entered active duty just before the terrorist attacks of September 11. Corena’s was deployed to an active warzone where she was responsible for the “killed in action” and “missing in action” reports.  This meant Corena became intimate with the final moments of many American soldiers. “When the family learns that they lost a loved one, you want them to have every detail; every question possible answered,” Corena said. “Reading those details, writing those details, took a toll on me. I believe that is where my PTSD came from.”

Following her transition out of the military, and her fight with PTSD, Corena has been able to get back to owning her life by providing emotional support to other heroes.

She is the program direcor for the Boots to Heels program within Attitudes and Attire, which addresses the unique needs of women in the military community: Active, Guard, Reserve, Veteran, Spouses of Veterans, and First Responders. The women have an opportunity to interact with others who face similar challenges transitioning from military life as veterans while reclaiming their self-esteem and finding their self-worth. City Wide Success Story With City of Irving's Public Safety Wellness Unit, Dr. Betancourt01 May 202300:58:27

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with the creator of the City of Irving, TX Public Safety Wellness Unit, Mildred Betancourt, PH.D on a A Badge of Honor Podcast.

Mildred Betancourt, PH.D works tirelessly to ensure the Police officers in Irving, TX have acces to mental health services. Her work was so successful that the City created a program where all first responders can seek help without the stigma. The Public Safety Wellness Unit (PSWU) ensures mental health services are readily available for Irving's first responders 24/7. The goal is to provide early intervention and stabilization shortly after a critical incident occurs to reduce stress-related symptoms.

The primary purpose of the program is to ensure the safety and quality of life - both on the job and in their personal lives.

First responders are routinely called to emergencies to rescue people. They often witness horrific events and yet, show up to work every day to do it all over again. These experiences can lead to mental health issues, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and in the worst cases, suicide.

This PSWU oversees the peer support programs, provides crisis intervention 24/7, critical incident debriefings, training, crisis counseling, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Yoga for First Responders (YFFR), biofeedback / neurofeedback, case management, consultations and trainings.

A Badge of Honor offers workshops to first responders across the nation, working with mental health liasons and critical incident management teams for Post Traumatic Stress Injury Recovery, wellness and resilience. A Badge of Honor says, "We Hear You," and wants you to know you are not alone.

She found a unique and deeply personal way to honor military service—by creating handcrafted wreaths from real military uniforms. What began as a tribute using her own uniforms, has grown into Wreaths by Nicole P, a business dedicated to turning veterans' garments into lasting keepsakes for families across the country.

Each wreath is a one-of-a-kind piece, made with care, precision, and a deep respect for the uniform and the individual who wore it. Nicole specializes in working directly with uniforms provided by customers, ensuring every design is meaningful and personalized.

Her core focus is customer satisfaction, and I take pride in providing not just a product, but a heartfelt experience. Whether you're honoring a loved one, preserving your own service history, or gifting a fellow veteran, Nicole will bring that story to life.
