| Rehab To 100 Milers & Beyond w/ Chris Morrison | 31 May 2024 | 01:01:06 | |
This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Chris Morrison. Chris a father, instagram content creator and Ultra Runner out of Arizona. Chris found a love for running after spending some time in rehab for alcoholism. Since then he has been running regularly and is now going from Rehab to 100 milers and beyond.
Chris and I speak first about the impact of social media on his running journey and how he creates such creative comedic videos. Living in Arizona can make it very challenging to run, especially when you grew up in Alaska. Chris talks about his move to AZ and if he plans on staying. Being a father of two, Chris and I will talk how he finds time to run ultras as well as being an amazing father and husband.
As the conversation progressed, Chris told us why he didn't make it to the line of the Black Canyon Ultra and why he took the month of February off from Instagram. This led to the need for kindness and supporting one another.
We end the episode talking about his training and what huge goals that he has planned in 2024 and beyond!

| Running Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim Of The Grand Canyon | 02 Apr 2024 | 00:58:04 | |
The Rim to Rim to Rim (R2R2R) is an iconic and challenging trek in the Grand Canyon National Park. As the name suggests, it involves traveling from one rim of the canyon to the other and then back again, covering a round trip that spans the width of the canyon twice. Typically, participants start either from the North Rim or the South Rim, descend to the canyon floor via one of the trails (such as the Bright Angel Trail or the South Kaibab Trail), traverse the canyon bottom, and then ascend to the opposite rim using another trail. They then turn around and repeat the journey in reverse, returning to their starting point. The R2R2R is extremely strenuous and requires careful planning, preparation, and fitness due to its significant elevation changes, rugged terrain, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. This past weekend, I completed this adventure. Here is my story Video of episode: https://www.youtube.com/live/yE_c2UgO6V4?si=Jw-VSBmBH28m6_KQ

This past weekend I took on the Squtchapple 20 mile trail race with a last minute entry. I had 25 miles on the calendar and some friends and family doing the race so I decided to hop in and mess around. I was 20 miles with 2,500 ft of climbing in very muddy and rainy conditions. | Building Elevation & Vert Volume | 20 Feb 2024 | 00:48:52
Over that past weeks I have gone from really doing no elevation every week to volume I didn't think were possible. After talking about next week I take a bunch of the questions from the chat. 9 Weeks out to the Canyons Endurance Run Ultra Marathon.

| 100 Days Out! (Building Volume & International Travel) | 16 Jan 2024 | 00:52:43 | |
The past two weeks have been very good to me as I build volume for the UTMB Canyons Endurance Runs on April 26th. Coming into the new year I had a 50+ miles week and a 4 day trip to Mexico with no where to really run. I want to talk about how I navigated that. This was especially interesting because of a tweaked ankle I got trail running that now is great. Back from Mexico we shot up to 55 miles this week leading into 65 next. It is cold in the northeast with storm after storm but we are making it happen. Some awesome questions came in the chat including how I structure a week, my "must do's" in a back to back weekend and some recovery technics that I cant go without. See you live on YouTube Mondays at 8pm!

While his peers are out chasing the night life, Nicky is in his bed at 7pm preparing for an early morning long run. Why? Simple put, he wants to be one of the best. After finding out about running from Goggins, Nicky walked on to his college cross country team just wanting to get in shape and make some changes in his life. He had no idea that the world of ultra marathon even existed. Fast forward 1 year, Nicky took 5th place in his first 50k with a sub 4:20 performance and 2nd at the Shore to Shore 50k here on long Island. By his own admission, he has a ton to learn and is very excited to see where more consistent training and experience will bring him. I cant wait to see where this kid ends up. He has all the makings of a champion. It's not if, but when!

In a backyard ultra competitors much complete a 4.17 mile loop on the hour every hour! Faster you go, the more rest you have until the top of the next hour. This continues until everyone quits and only one runner remains. The runners dictate the finish line. This race is not about speed. It is about determination and survival. Its mental warfare and strategy. It's so simple that it will drive people crazy. This year I got myself a new backyard ultra PR! See you in the discord!

| First Race of 2025 & What's Next w/Tara Finn | 02 Mar 2025 | 01:06:09 | |
The 2025 race season has officially begun. This was a great local race to see exactly were my fitness was at coming out of winter. Tara and I both have some big A races coming up in 2025. I wanted to have Tara sit down with me to highlight our MUCH DIFFERENT approaches to racing, training, nutrition and the sport of Ultramarathon. This episode is great for couples that are trying to manage racing and training at the same time while also trying to manage a growing family.

The conversation highlights the significance of establishing a consistent training routine over six to eight weeks before focusing on metrics and volume increases. In this conversation, Brad Trains discusses the importance of focusing on time rather than mileage in training, the significance of vertical gain and descent in preparation for races, and introduces the Training Stress Score (TSS) as a comprehensive metric for tracking training intensity and volume. He emphasizes the need to consider both ascent and descent when building vertical gain and explains how TSS can help athletes manage their training loads effectively, regardless of their specific training goals.
