Feel free to leave suggestions/tips on content. NOTE that I am no video editor and have very limited time so I can’t do fancy visual effects, nor endless retakes etc.

Trump's authoritarian actions - Sat 4th October 202505 Oct 202500:02:41

As ever, all actions are on the TrumpActionTracker.info alongside news articles. The past few days have really been heavy on right-wing nationalism and escalating rhetoric and actions against Democrats and progressive organisations.

Unfortunately, unless I can rapidly upskill my video-recording and editing, I might need to drop down to every other day and do the the most important actions across 2 days instead of 1. Essentially, it’s taking me too long to be sustainable as a daily activity! And (because I’m rubbish), I’m having to do it all in one take which obviously entails various false starts :-/

Immigration, nationalism and Europe09 Dec 202500:07:59

So much happened last week that we’ve split this week’s update into two parts.

This part is about actions that advanced the regime’s nationalist agenda in various ways that might have been missed because the attention last week was on the investigation into the “double strike” during the first attack on Venezuela’s boats.

I cover further restrictions on immigration and visas, the targeting of the state of Minnesota and the stark new policy change towards Europe.

Part 2 will be out soon and covers science, civil rights and how Trump wants to be king.

Three things you might have missed this week in American news01 Dec 202500:08:38

I’ve been talking a lot to my friend and volunteer Ell about how to improve these videos. Together we’ve decided that maybe the most useful thing is to cover stories that matter but are not front-page news.

This makes the most of the TrumpActionTracker by being able to bring to the fore these perhaps smaller actions that nonetheless fall squarely within the authoritarian playbook.

I also want to thank another amazing volunteer, who wishes to remain anonymous, who has stepped in to help with the video editing (and as you can see, they are far better than me!).

Running the TrumpActionTracker is time-consuming and often depressing. But it has been really uplifting to gather this small community together of people who are helping track the actions, check historical actions, maintain and improve the website, and now help get those actions out to new audiences via social media. (Long form videos are going out on my YouTube channel and short form ones now on TikTok and YouTube shorts). Not only does it make it feasible (just about) to keep doing this, but it really easier not to do it alone.

Plus of course the hundreds of policy experts, journalists and academics providing their analyses as well.

PS I have a backlog of substacks I am trying to write, about Trump, the UK Covid Inquiry, the NHS etc… but I am simply struggling to find the time. Bear with me!

All the actions discussed in this video can be found (with news links) on https://www.trumpactiontracker.info/ Trying out a different format - if it stays like this, then will likely move to a once a week format… we’ll see! Constructive feedback welcome - including in whether I should only post video content on YouTube and keep just the writing to Substack.

War and Propaganda in the US last week13 Jan 202600:08:51

It’s been a crazy week in the US - even by the standards of the last year. This means that a lot of stuff has been underreported as the US (and the world) grapples with the fallout from Venezuela and the killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.

In this video, I go through things you might have missed from war to propaganda to health and the environment.

Captions are available.

All the actions are available on the TrumpActionTracker. Incidentally, I’m really starting to see the TrumpActionTracker work pay off, as you can easily track the escalation over the last year on a number of fronts.

I’ve done a lot on the US recently - and more to come - simply because so much is happening. I believe that the US is now an authoritarian state - question is whether Trump and his goons can keep it.

Attacks on political enemies & civil rights - under the radar actions over Christmas period06 Jan 202600:05:33

Obviously the news is currently dominated by the military operation in Venezuela and the capture and trial of Maduro and his wife. But this video is not about that - it’s about highlighting some of the actions that took place over the Christmas period that many will have missed.

I’ve concentrated on his attacks on a variety of pereceived enemies from judges to the media and attacks on civil rights.

Thanks again to Ell for helping me with the content and recording and my other brilliant volunteer (who wishes to remain anonymous) for the video editing !

Summer break & please take quick anon survey on how I can improve21 Jul 202600:00:39

Hi,

A quick video explaining that I’m taking a summer break from these. While I’m currently planning on coming back in September, I might not.

I am really interested to find out a bit more about you! Who watches these and why? What do you like or dislike about them? Can I improve? Should I continue?

I’ve designed a short anonymous survey to help make the decision - please do take it!

Bear in mind that these videos take several hours each by the time I’ve curated the actions, wrestled them into a script and then recorded them.

It then takes my fabulous volunteer a few more hours to edit them into something nice. I’m not really in a position to become way more professional (partly time constraints, partly video talent) but I am definitely open to (reasonable) suggestions!

Thanks for watching and taking the survey!

****

PS I’m hoping to use some of the time saved by not recording these on being able to write a bit more on substack.

What you missed in last 10 days: attacks on the midterms and 3 deaths in ICE encounters17 Jul 202600:09:16

What you might have missed this week: with four months to go until the midterms, Trump fired every member of the commission that helps run US elections, and the DOJ threatened election officials in all 50 states with criminal prosecution over a problem that experts say doesn’t really exist (non-citizen voting).

And three people died in 7 days during encounters with ICE agents during traffic stops. In two of the cases, witnesses directly contradicted ICE’s account. In neither case was the victim the intended target of the operation. ICE briefly paused vehicle stops only for Trump to publicly overrule his own agency the next day.

What’s Happened in America While You Were Watching the Iran War 10 Apr 202600:09:25

While the war in Iran understandably dominates the headlines, consequential actions that reshape American democracy at home have flown under the radar. This week's roundup looks at two parallel tracks: a series of moves that could undermine free and fair elections ahead of the midterms - from voter roll purges to ICE agents at polling stations - and an escalating pattern of using the machinery of government to go after perceived enemies, whether that's journalists, state attorneys general, or even the Catholic Church. The stories you probably missed, but should know about.Subtitles available & all actions (with sources) given on the TrumpActionTracker (now nearing 3000 actions since January 2025!)

Attacks on Enemies, Environment, Health & Rights24 Jan 202600:14:56

The news cycle is relentless. It's only been 3 weeks since the US invaded Venezuela, captured its president and appropriated its oil. And yet it's barely been in the news for last week or two cos of all the other new s**t.

In this recording, I run through some of the most important developments that haven’t stayed on the front pages, across five themes: attacks on enemies, the environment, health, civil rights, and nationalist measures flying under the radar.

Subtitles are available.

What you missed this week: elections under attack, and Trump corruption18 Jun 202600:08:53

I decided to focus on just two main stories this week that I think have been under-reported:

* How Republicans are trying to secure the midterms despite deep unpopularity - gerrymandering, mail ballot restrictions, manufactured fraud claims, and an FBI raid on a voter registration group.

* A series of corruption stories: a conflict of interest over a herbal supplement, a White House crypto payout, a 96% breach of pardon guidelines, and two stories about loyalty to Trump that go beyond self-enrichment.

10 days behind the headlines in Trump's America: 10 Jun 202600:10:05

This week’s video covers four areas:

* attacks on civil rights and institutions, where the pattern of firing professionals and installing loyalists continues;

* immigration and detention, where conditions and oversight are both getting worse;

* science and the environment;

* press freedom, which is under attack from outside and from within.

I end on something a little different — what Trump chose to post on the 82nd anniversary of D-Day.

Last two weeks of Trump: science gutted, enemies attacked, and Cuba in the crosshairs01 Jun 202600:13:28

It's been two weeks since my last video as I’ve been travelling a lot, and so this one covers a lot of ground. Even then, so much has happened behind the headlines that I had to do lots of editing!

In this video I cover:

* Science: attacks on vaccines, drinking water, and research funding.

* Immigration: the human cost of mass deportation, who gets in and who doesn't, and conditions inside detention.

* Suppressing dissent: Republican primaries, the justice system, and threats to Democratic cities.

* Foreign aggression: Cuba, and the boat strikes that keep killing people.Subtitles available and all sources logged at TrumpActionTracker.info
