| Tips to Help Your Child Get Organized (Repost of top 5 Episodes of 2023) | 28 Dec 2023 | 00:06:37 | |
After the holiday break, kids will be heading back to school, and one of the most important things we as parents can help our children with is teaching them how to get and stay organized. Building these habits early in their lives will benefit them throughout their career as a student and later as an adult. In today’s episode we cover: 1. Creating a designated homework space at home and why having a dedicated area prevents unnecessary stress and promotes a focused mindset.
2. Providing storage solutions for backpacks and school supplies as well as keeping a central family bulletin board or calendar to keep track of all school related things.
3. Establishing a regular homework schedule and setting expectations. How to establish consistency and routine, along with strategies to help your child adhere to their schedule.
4. How to keep homework and projects organized with color-coded folders.
5. Motivating and breaking down tasks for younger children. Stickers, rewards, and incremental steps can make a significant difference in their productivity and understanding
6. Teaching your children the importance of planning ahead using calendars or planners and how they can track assignments and due dates effectively.
7. Understanding your role as a parent in helping your child with organization, including how involved you should be based on your child's age. Also, how you can provide guidance without taking over their responsibilities and allowing them to develop self-confidence as they learn to become more independent learners.

| Helping Your Child Develop God-Confidence (Repost of Top 5 Episodes of 2023) | 14 Dec 2023 | 00:07:26 | |
We’ve all read statistics about how child and teen depression has been on a steady increase since COVID and with the increasing popularity of social media. Bullying is also on the rise, and right behind it is teen suicide. In her book, God-Confident Kids: Helping Your Child Find True Purpose, Passion, and Peace, Cyndie Claypool De Neve’s says, “There is a confidence crisis in a generation of hurting kids, and confused parents struggling to guide them through an obstacle course of stressors unique to this era. To respond to this crisis by telling our kids they’re the “best,” “prettiest,” “smartest,” and “strongest,” is overstroking their confidence while teetering on creating entitled narcissists. We set kids up for failure when we teach them to be self-confident, which is solely based on how they feel about their strengths, talents, competence, and looks and is often determined by what others say about them.“ So just what is God-confidence? God-confidence is knowing that the God of the universe handcrafted each of us for a purpose and that He will give us strength, courage, and wisdom, and all the gifts we need to do the tasks He has set before us. Self-confidence promotes relying on one’s self to accomplish our own purpose, but God-confidence reminds us to rely on God. As parents we need to be encouraging our children to build their God-confidence, trusting in Him who designed each of them for a unique purpose with unique talents and gifts. I’m excited to announce that my kid’s devotional for ages 8-12: Fingerprint Devotions: 40 Devotions That Help You Realize You Are a Kid Uniquely Created by God for a Purpose by Ambassador International Publishers, is now available at all major outlets and on Amazon (click link). This devotional is focused on the same topic as today’s podcast—helping children know they are uniquely created by God for a purpose.

| Allowing Your Child to Fail (Repost of top 5 Episodes of 2023) | 07 Dec 2023 | 00:06:14 | |
On this episode of “5-Minute Parenting,” we discuss the importance of allowing our children to fail. Failure is a natural part of life, and parents need to teach their children how to learn from their failures and grow from them. We also discuss how communication, unconditional love, and support can help children take responsibility for their bad decisions. We discuss the importance of internalization of actions, natural consequences, and not being afraid to try new things. As parents, we need to teach our children that God and authority figures love and guide them, while also being willing to share our failures to show them that it's okay to fail and that it can lead to growth and character development. | Your Words Matter! (Repost of top 5 Episodes of 2023) | 30 Nov 2023 | 00:05:13
Have you ever heard a parent perhaps in a grocery store yelling at their kids—berating them, telling them they are no good for nothing? I cringe when I hear things like that because WORDS —especially our words as parents— have the power to actually shape how a child sees themselves now and in the future. We know how someone’s harsh or critical words can hurt us even as adults. And it’s even more hurtful for a child who has no experience in knowing how to accept or reject or evaluate what they hear about themselves. | The Story Behind My Kid's Devotional--Fingerprint Devotions | 09 Nov 2023 | 00:07:30
Today, the world’s influence on our children begins so much earlier than most of us experienced in our lives. We live in a society where even young children are bombarded daily with media advertisements on TV, social media, magazines, etc. that portray success as external beauty, popularity, sexiness, etc. The earlier we begin in a child’s life to build that foundation of Truth, the earlier they will be equipped to stand against a ungodly world view that permeates our current culture. By the time children reach their tween and teen years, many of these harmful lies about who they are, their value as a person and their purpose in life has already caused much harm psychological, emotionally and physically. Fingerprint Devotions: 40 Devotions To Help You Realize You Are a Kid Uniquely Created by God for a Purpose,” helps kids understand they were created by God who has a purpose and plan for their life. It pairs fun scientific facts about the uniqueness of each person’s fingerprints with Scripture, a short devotional, a prayer and a question to journal or an activity to do. It has four sections with topics about each person’s creation and uniqueness, their identity in Christ, accepting Jesus, developing the fruit of the Spirit in their lives, and discovering the gifts and talents that God has given them to serve others and live a purposeful life. My Goals for This Devotional 1. Help children know that God created them, choose them, loves them and has a purpose for their lives. 2. Help children be grounded in the truth of who they are in God to withstand our current culture of “wokeness” and lies about who they are. Just as Satan sought to destroy the generation of children at Moses birth and later at Jesus’ birth, he still is trying to destroy our generation of children with his lies. 3. That this devotional will reach not only children in Christian homes, but children who are not being raised in a Christian setting or attend church. I’m excited about my partnership with 7Homes—a NC-based Christian foster and adoption agency. I plan to donate copies of my devot Check out the Questions for Kids picture book series, perfect for young readers ages 5-10! Book 3 in the Questions for Kids picture book series is now available! | Why One-on-One Time With Your Children is Important | 02 Nov 2023 | 00:09:29
Today’s special guest is Anastasia Corbin. She’s a dedicated mother of four and an advocate of faith, family, and fitness. She is passionate about sharing her insights and experiences to help overwhelmed moms prioritize their family relationships. She is the author of Becoming an Intentional Family and co-author of When the Bases are Loaded: Encouragement for Moms to Hit a Grand Slam in Life. Here are 3 key takeaways from our conversation: 1. Communicates value: One-on-one time with your child communicates that they are important and worth spending quality time with. Your presence is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. 2. Builds relationships: Just like with friends or spouses, spending time together helps build a deeper connection and understanding with your child. You get to know their preferences, fears, and interests, which strengthens your bond. 3. Behavior improvement Often, children act out to gain attention. By intentionally setting aside one-on-one time, you meet their need for attention and help reduce negative behavior. Investing in your child pays off in the long run. 4. Finding time For one-on-one moments can be challenging, but it's worth it. Be creative and explore opportunities like car rides, walks, special treats, or even playing their favorite games together. If you want more ideas and guidance on how to create intentional family time, I encourage you to check out Anastasia’s book, Becoming an Intentional Family. | Reaching Children with the Message of Jesus | 26 Oct 2023 | 00:11:42
In today’s episode I have the privilege of interviewing Crystal Bowman, an award-winning and best-selling author of over 100 books for children and families. Crystal Bowman is not only an accomplished author but also a mentor and coach for children's writers. Crystal's heart is to reach children with the message of Jesus from a young age. She believes that even the very youngest children can begin to understand God's love and presence through devotions focused on security and belonging. Crystal's books, like "Good Morning, God Loves You," provide comfort and encouragement to little ones through beautiful illustrations and uplifting messages. As children grow older, Crystal introduces them to Jesus as God's son and helps them grasp the importance of His sacrifice and resurrection. Her devotionals and Bible storybooks are designed to help children understand what it means to be a Christian and follow Jesus. Crystal emphasizes the importance of age-appropriate materials that do not water down the gospel, but engage children at their level of understanding. You can find out more about Crystal and her books on her website. She and her daughter, Terry McKinley, have a brand new kid’s devotional titled Our Daily Bread for Kids: 365 Devotions from Genesis to Revelation . We also gave a few ways you can help your child if they tell you they are being bullied. This week we are going to look at some traits kids who are bullied often have, and some ways you can help your child if they are being bullied. First, let’s look at some common traits children who are bullied have:

| Bullying with a Capital “B” Part 1 | 12 Oct 2023 | 00:06:48 | |
Bullying is becoming a huge issue affecting younger and younger children. Comparitech conducted a survey of over 1000 parents of children over the age of 5 with these results:
Bullying increases the risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, dropping out of school and even suicide according to the National Bullying Prevention Center. So let’s look at the definition of bullying and the different kinds of bullying. As defined by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Resources, bullying is aggressive, repeated, unwanted behavior that includes an imbalance of power between the children. Kids who bully use their power—whether their physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity to control or harm others. Bullying can be classified into four types: verbal, social, physical and damage to property.
And now because of the prevalence of media technology (phones, email, chartrooms, instant messaging, or online posts) children must deal electronic bullying or cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is not a different type of bullying; it just involves an electronic context. It includes verbal bullying and social bullying. | What Being a Dad Has Taught Me About Our Father | 28 Sep 2023 | 00:11:01
Matthew Krekeler is a devoted father who deeply reflects on what it means to be a dad. He believes that the heart of fatherhood is building strong relationships, just like our relationship with God as our Heavenly Father. Matthew finds great inspiration in the Lord's Prayer, which invites us to know God as a loving father. Matthew believes that the primary role of a father is to love, taking after our Heavenly Father who is love. He emphasizes that fathers should provide, protect, discipline, and guide their children with love as the foundation. Justice and mercy are also important aspects of fatherhood for Matthew. While justice is necessary, he finds that mercy is where justice meets love, and he sees God as a merciful father. Matthew finds inspiration in the story of the prodigal son, where the father runs out to greet his son with open arms, representing the unconditional love of our heavenly father. As a father, Matthew aims to constantly show mercy to his children, embracing them with open arms. He values the selflessness and care that his children exhibit towards each other, often putting their sisters' needs before their own. Matthew shares a heartwarming anecdote about one of his daughters willingly sharing her treat with her sister, demonstrating mercy and compassion. He believes that justice is important, but mercy is a beautiful way to show love and emulate our heavenly father. | How the Internet is Shaping Our Kid's Brains | 21 Sep 2023 | 00:06:11
In today's episode of 5-Minute Parenting, we delve into the fascinating topic of how the internet is changing our children's brains. With the internet providing instant access to information and shaping the way we interact with the world, it's clear that its impact goes beyond mere convenience. Excessive use of the internet can lead to negative effects on attention spans, deep thinking, and memory formation. But the positive in all this is that our brain has the incredible ability to rewire itself. There are ways we as parents can demonstrate and teach our children to use the internet responsibly. 1. Participate in activities that strengthen our focus and attention
Spend time each day completing a single, uninterrupted task. Ex. Read a chapter or two in a book, play a musical instrument, or work on a project without picking up your smartphone to check on something. For our children and teens it may mean keeping their phone in another room away from them so they can focus on the task in front of them without being distracted.
2. Return to nature Take regular breaks from technology—take breaks in nature. Go on walks, to parks, etc. Kids need to engage in some outdoor playtime. Some research has shown that being in nature may improve our creativity. Plus, an added bonus is just getting some fresh air and exercise which is another positive way to rewire out brains naturally.
3. Create technology-free zones This will look different depending on your family, the age of your children, etc. Discover times when everyone in the family can turn off technology—during dinnertime, family time together—whether playing games or watching a movie, taking a walk, etc. Everyone in the family, including adults need to abide by the rules and set a good example.
Technology has it’s place, but we need to rule it; not let it rule us.

| Grandparents--Are You a Christian Mentor to Your Grandchildren? | 07 Sep 2023 | 00:07:02 | |
Grandparents play a vital role in shaping the lives of their grandchildren, and on this episode of 5-Minute Parenting we explore the importance of being a Christian mentor to the younger generation. In a culture that values “new” and “youth,” grandparents can often be viewed as obsolete when it comes to having anything to offer society today, but godly grandparents have an important role in influencing the lives of their grandchildren and the younger generation. Here are some ways you can be a mentor for your grandchildren as well as for the younger generation. 1. Wisdom and Value: The Bible reminds us that wisdom is found among the aged, and gray hair is a crown of glory. As grandparents, you have a wealth of wisdom and experience to share with your grandchildren. Don't underestimate your role in shaping their lives for the better. 2. Prayer: One of the best things you can do as a grandparent is to pray for your grandchildren every day. 3. Create Memories Together: You can share your gifts and talents with them and take an interest in their activities at school, in sports and clubs. 4. Stay Connected: Even if you don’t live near your grandchildren, technology has made it easier than ever to stay connected. Find ways to show an interest in their activities, be there to listen, and share your life and faith with them. PARENTS: Encourage respect for the older generation in your children and teach them to appreciate and honor their grandparents. We will be celebrating Grandparents Day the Sunday after Labor Day On this day to honor grandparents, let them know how special they are and acknowledge their contribution to the family. | How to Get Your Child to Really Talk to You | 31 Aug 2023 | 00:05:44
Let me suggest that instead of asking simply, “How was school today?” try some of the following questions: 1. What’s something new you leaned to do in school today? 2. What’s something fun that happened at school today? Or something funny that happened or something that made you sad or angry? Tell me about it. 3. How would you rate your day today: 1-great; 2- good; 3-ok; 4-below average; 5-awful (For a younger child you might draw or cut out a few faces that show different emotions and have them choose the one that matches how their day was.) 4. Then ask: Why did you choose that one to describe your day. (OR) What happened today that made you choose that one? 5. Did someone say something nice or do something nice for you today? 6. Did you say something nice or do something nice for someone today? 7. Did you make a new friend today? Tell me about them? 8. Is there something you are learning that you feel you don’t understand and need more help with? 9. What do you like about your teacher or teachers? 10. What’s one thing that would make each day at school better? Having good conversation starters can work for all ages. Perhaps start a list of your own ideas you that you can use to spark a conversation with your child. And when our child does come to us on his or her own and wants to talk, we need to listen whole-heartedly. If possible, we should stop what we are doing, look them in the eye and focus on them. We all know that’s not always possible—but we can make an effort or we can make and appointment with them as soon as possible to sit down and talk. “I really want to hear what you have to say but right now I’m in the middle of ______. Could we talk in an hour, when I can give you my full attention?” Begin by praying that God will help you be a good listener and that your child will feel free to talk with you about their experiences at school—good or bad. Sometimes they may just need us to listen and not offer advice. At other times they may be open to our suggestions. If we’re aways trying to give them advice or solve their problems, they Check out the Questions for Kids picture book series, perfect for young readers ages 5-10! | Praying For Our Children and Grandchildren As They Go Back To School | 24 Aug 2023 | 00:04:24
My pastor reminded us last Sunday that we are in a spiritual battle everyday—a battle against an enemy who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. And we don’t fight that war with natural weapons, but with the spiritual weapon of prayer. Our enemy is focused on destroying this generation of children with cultural lies, worldly, distractions, and sexual perversions. My pastor challenged us to spend more time praying than we spend on social media and scrolling online. I’m taking that word to heart as a word from God. As parents and grandparents, we need to be praying for our children and grandchildren everyday and teaching them how to pray and put on the spiritual armor of God. As they begin a new school year, let’s pray together for them today. (These 10 prayer points will be in the Notes so that you can use them for your prayer time.) 10 Prayers for Our Children and Grandchildren as They Go Back to School Lord, we ask that our children: 1. Be kept safe physically, spiritually and emotionally while in school. 2. Develop discernment and stand firm for what is right and refuse what is wrong. 3. Develop a strong and healthy self-image and self-confidence. 4. That they would treat others with respect and obey the authorities in their life. 5. Recognize that You created them and have a plan and purpose for their lives. 6. Discover their God-given gifts and talents. 7. Be motivate, disciplined and challenged in their learning experiences. 8. Choose their friends wisely and find Christian fellowship. 9. That that would have teachers who are good examples for them. 10. That they would have a peaceful classroom where they can learn. | Helping Your Child Develop God-Confidence | 20 Jul 2023 | 00:07:26
I’m excited to announce that my kid’s devotional for ages 8-12: Fingerprint Devotions: 40 Devotions That Help You Realize You Are a Kid Uniquely Created by God for a Purpose will be released Nov. 7, 2023, by Ambassador International Publishers. This devotional is focused on the same topic as today’s podcast—helping children know they are uniquely created by God for a purpose. I’ll be posting updates on my author website and in my quarterly newsletter, so be sure to signup to receive it on my author’s website. (Link below.) | Let Us Pray Today for Our Children | 29 Jun 2023 | 00:04:11
Today we are going to pray for ourselves as parents and for our children as we face more and more lies of the enemy seeking to destroy our children and our society. Dear Lord, I ask that you give our children wisdom to know right from wrong and the strength to do what they know to be right. Deliver them from the enemy’s lies deception that have become woven into our current culture. Give our children discernment and Truth that only your Holy Spirit can reveal. And for our youngest children, Lord, give them discerning parents, grandparents and teachers who will stand up and say, “No More! ” We have the right to train up our children as we see fit and as God has commissioned us to do in Scripture. Lord, help us as parents to raise up a standard of righteousness against the ungodliness that has permeated our culture. Lord, your Word says, if your people who are called by your name (that means all of us who are Christian believers) will humble themselves and pray and seek your face and turn from our wicked ways, then you will hear from heaven, and will forgive our sin and will heal our land. (2 Chron. 7:14). Lord, you don’t make it difficult or hard—you tell us exactly what we need to do to heal our land. We confess we have allowed ungodliness to seep into our culture on our watch. Forgive us, Lord, and open our eyes wide to be able to discern and draw a line in the sand against all ungodliness, especially where it concerns our children. As parents, we commit to do what you tell us to do—humble ourselves, seek You and pray. I ask that as we are obedient as parents to pray for our children, they may grow up filled with joy, peace and purpose in their lives that comes from knowing and serving you. | Ideas for Family Time | 22 Jun 2023 | 00:07:02
As Christian parents, it is our responsibility to teach our children about God and His principles. In this episode I share some ideas and strategies that could help you make this task easier and more enjoyable. It can be challenging to have a family time focused on reading the Bible, prayer, and discussing faith, especially with varying ages of children. Whether it’s incorporating games, listening to faith-based music, or acting out scenes from the Bible, I have some suggestions you might want to try for different ages of children. Having an appropriate age-level Bible or Bible story book is important. Using different translations of the Bible can help kids understand and engage with the text. Teenagers or older children who enjoy being artistic can benefit from having a Bible with space for doodling, illustrations or journaling. There are also several multimedia resources such as the You Version Bible App with its online Bible plans and videos for different ages. I also recommend the book, Growing the Fruit of the Spirit, which has great resources for games, coloring sheets, puzzles, and object lessons. Also, check out another resource to help you find the best kid’s Bibles by age level. What Forgiveness Does Not Mean:

| Forgiveness: Part 1: Teach Our Young Child How to Forgive | 04 May 2023 | 00:06:42 | |
Parents need to help their child understand what forgiveness is and why they need to forgive others. For the Christian, forgiveness is based on God’s love and His forgiveness of us. God also commands us to forgive others. He even lists consequences if we don’t forgive others. Unforgiveness can hinder our prayers and our personal relationship with God. Even from a worldly perspective, psychologists, counselors and social workers recognize the importance of forgiveness and the negative effects of unforgiveness. Unforgiveness can lead to bitterness and hatred that impacts our happiness and quality of life. And it causes stress and anxiety which in turn affects our physical health and well-being. So where do we start to help our young children understand how important forgiveness is? 1. We model forgiveness ourselves. 2. Teach them about God’s forgiveness. 3. Share scriptures about forgiveness. 4. Help them understand it’s ok to express their feelings to us and God. 5. Explain to them that forgiveness is not a feeling—it’s a choice and an action they take. 6. Teach them that God says not to take revenge (try to get back at them, which is what we humanly want to do). 7. Teach them what they can do after they have forgiven someone. Ask God to help them with their feelings. Brainstorm some ways together they could show kindness instead of taking revenge. 8. One practical, concrete way to demonstrate forgiveness to a younger child: Buy a helium balloon, take it outside and ask your child to pray after you or pray on their own, “I forgive ______ for_______. Help me show kindness and love to them.” Then let the balloon go and watch it disappear into the heavens. Scriptures on forgiveness: Matthew 5:43-44; Matthew 6:14-15; Matthew 18:21-22; Mark 11:25; Luke 6:37; Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13. | Getting the Most Out of Parent/Teacher Conferences | 27 Apr 2023 | 00:06:38
It’s that time of year where a lot of schools begin their end-of-the-year parent/teacher conferences. As both a parent and a teacher, I want to discuss some ways you as a parent can get the most out of these conferences. Here are some ways to prepare for the conference: 1. Make a list of your concerns and questions before the actual conference. This helps you organize your thoughts and it also helps you not to forget something important. 2. At the actual conference, allow the teacher to lead with his/her comments and concerns. Ask for clarification of anything you don’t understand. Be careful not to be defensive or combative—remember you are on the same team. You both want to help your child. 3. When you have listened to the teacher’s concerns, then bring up any additional questions or concerns you may have. 4. Some general questions you might ask if they are not initially covered by the teacher: (These are listed in the notes.)
(this might be a list of tutors –usually schools keep a list of tutors they know and recommend; extracurricular activities; workbooks; special programs; etc. These are especially important during the summer when kids tend to regress in learning if not challenged.
If you have a special needs child who receives special educational or social/emotional resource help at school, it’s important that you touch base with their support team before the end of the school year. Many of these individuals will be included in an end-of-the-year parent/teacher conference, but if not—email or call them and ask to meet with them to discuss your child’s progress and what you can do to help them over Check out the Questions for Kids picture book series, perfect for young readers ages 5-10! | Let's Pray | 19 Apr 2023 | 00:04:45
Because I believe prayer is the most powerful thing we as parents, grandparents and Christians the can do for our children, I have decided that some weeks on this podcast, we will simply take a few minutes and pray for our children and the younger generation. I invite you, whatever time of day you tune in to this podcast, to stop what you are doing for a moment and join with me in prayer. Invite your friends to pray, share on social media so perhaps we can have people praying around the clock for the next generation. | Should We Encourage Self-Esteem in Our Children? | 12 Apr 2023 | 00:07:09
Recently I’ve read an article written by a Christian that gives a negative twist to encouraging self-esteem in our children. It says that the modern secular philosophy of self-esteem promotes unwarranted pride in self. It also states that this popular self-esteem culture has seeped into our church culture. Here are the three points the article makes:
Here is my argument for building positive, godly self-esteem in our children.

| Helping Your Child with Reading Skills | 06 Apr 2023 | 00:06:42 | |
In today’s podcast I’m putting on my teacher hat to share some info about reading skills. I’m sure every parent is concerned about the reported losses in academic gains due to COVID, but there are some things you can do to help you child improve his or her reading skills. I was a special education teacher for many years and have a Master’s Degree in Special Education. I taught kids who had learning disabilities and/or ADHD. My suggestions today will be geared more for early childhood and elementary-age students. I will also be sharing some statistics and studies about reading skills. According to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, if a child is a poor reader at the end of first grade, there is a 90 percent likelihood that, without some sort of additional help, they will remain a poor reader when they reach the end of fourth grade. And, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 32 percent of fourth graders aren’t reading at a basic level. Here are two simple ideas to help your child develop and improve their reading skills: Strategy #1 Reading Aloud to Them: Reading aloud to your child is a proven way to promote cognitive development. Young children who have had lots of stories read to them enter kindergarten as much as 14 months ahead in language and pre-reading skills. While listening to stories, children pick up grammar, syntax and general knowledge. They also take in more sophisticated vocabulary. Strategy #2—Reading Out Loud to a Dog: This strategy is geared for elementary-age students who are having reading difficulties. Research has shown that reading out loud to another person can improve overall reading performance in poor readers, but reading out loud to a dog improves reading comprehension even more! This strategy is particularly helpful because poor readers become painfully aware of people around them watching and judging them when they stumble over words, mispronounce words or stop and start frequently. The real casualty is that their self-esteem suffers and so does their motivation to read. So how does Check out the Questions for Kids picture book series, perfect for young readers ages 5-10! | Helping Our Children Develop a Biblical-Worldview | 31 Mar 2023 | 00:06:26
As parents, we all desire our children to have a strong foundation of faith in God. However, with so many distractions and worldly messages bombarding them, it can be a challenge to help them understand the importance of having a biblical worldview. We live in a society where even young children are bombarded daily with media advertisements on TV, social media, magazines, etc. that portray success as external beauty, popularity, sexiness, etc. Social media platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, have recently been under attack for their psychological and emotional impacts on children and teens making them feel they don't "measure up." 1 Before we can help our children develop a godly and biblical worldview, let’s define just what a biblical worldview encompasses. What is a Biblical Worldview? “It’s a way of looking at the world through the lens of God's Word, the Bible. It is rooted in the belief that God created everything and that He has a plan for His creation.
How Can We Begin to Help Our Children Develop a Biblical Worldview? 1. We can begin early in their life reading Bible stories and the Bible regularly to help them develop an understanding of God. (See some resources below.) 2. As parents we can demonstrate a godly worldview in our everyday lives. Let your children see you reading the Bible, praying, and living out your faith. 3. Take advantage of teachable moments. When something happe Check out the Questions for Kids picture book series, perfect for young readers ages 5-10! | Praying for Our Children | 31 Mar 2023 | 00:06:26
I think we all tend to look at our immediate situations and needs when we pray for ourselves and our children. We can be overwhelmed with all we have to do in our daily lives as wives, mothers, and perhaps in our careers that when we do to pray, our “prayer funnel” is very narrow and focused only on the urgent:
And on and on and on. These urgent, daily situations are all important and we do need to pray for them on a daily basis. But we also need to widen what I call our “prayer funnel” to pray with a long term vision for our children. Perhaps that’s impossible to do daily, but maybe schedule a prayer time once a week to do this—either alone, perhaps with your husband, or a prayer partner. The most important long term prayers we can pray for our children are that:
We also need to consider the age of our child when determining what to pray for them. Every age—from early childhood to teen years, even to adulthood have different challenges and so some of our prayers will need to change and expand to meet those needs.
