Finally, they discuss Sen. Fetterman taking part in the GOP midterm convention. Jim points out that Fetterman is hated on the left and too liberal for the right. So will Fetterman run for re-election and what will that look like?

Next, they discuss the Republican Party's midterm convention tonight and tomorrow in Texas. Jim and Greg like the concept but wonder about the timing against the start of the NFL season. Jim would also like to see more 2026 candidates on the schedle to speak.

Then, they wade into the growing debate on the right about whether taxpayer subsides designed to cover childcare costs for families below a certain income level should also be given to familes with a stay-at-home mom or dad. Is this fairness or just more big government?

First, they rip Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for saying "If I had one political philosophy it’s that I want us to build what we would build if we took seriously the idea that all of our kids were all of our kids." And of course he's using kids to further his radical, big government agenda.

Next, they highlight the slick lying of Texas Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico. Now that he's running statewide, Talarico claims to have been a vocal critic of Pres. Biden's border policies at the time. But his argument implodes once it faces the truth.

Then, they fume as Lindsay Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, publicly demonizes the one juror who apparently voted to convict Clancy.  

Finally, they react to another Reddington statement, this time asking President Trump to pardon Clancy. Greg explains why that makes no sense. Jim says Reddington is proving to be the living charicature of a sleazy defense lawyer.

Then, they react to Fox News abruptly firing Maria Bartiromo. Additional reporting suggests Bartiromo wanted to do reports on China and the 2020 elections and persisted after executives rejected her request. Jim states Fox News paid a steep price already for 2020 election reporting. They also note speculation that Bartiromo might be President Trump's next press secretary.

Finally, Jim and Greg offer a quick preview of their Labor Day special on Monday.

Then, they dig into Sen. Markey's big win over Rep. Seth Moulton in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Massachusetts. And while some top Democrats are pretending otherwise, Markey immediately demanded the impeachment of President Trump if Democrats control Congress again.

Finally, they're almost speechless as Hunter Biden declares himself 48.6 percent gay. Greg sees this as a ploy by Biden to gain sympathy and support on the left. Jim longs for the days when people didn't reveal every last detail of their personal lives.

Next, they get a kick out of socialist Los Angeles councilwoman and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman bragging about how her office successfully painted a new crosswalk across a badly cracked street just nine months after her constituents asked her to do it. 

Then, they react to new reporting from the Wall Street Journal that CIA Director John Ratcliffe recently went to Moscow in a secretive way to demand Russia refrain from attacking NATO members and reiterating that NATO members will defend their partners. Jim applauds Trump and Ratcliffe for sending that message but wants to know what intelligence prompted the trip and that message.

Finally, Jim vents after Politico blatantly distorts his reporting on a possible AOC presidential bid and makes other amateurish errors.

Then, they are encouraged to see a new poll showing Republican John Sununu with a small lead in the New Hampshire U.S. Senate race. Given all the states where Republicans have to defend competitive seats, finding an opportunity to flip a seat held by Democrats is a welcome surprise.

Finally, they are relieved to see the NFL is finally ending the Pro Bowl. Jim and Greg explain how the quality of game plummeted in recent years. Jim also suggests a way to keep the competition alive without risking injury.

Next, they discuss Sen. Darline Graham winning the South Carolina primary runoff over Rep. Ralph Norman. They discuss Graham's lingering deficiencies as a candidate, Norman's frustration over Trump and other allies abandoning him for Graham, and how competitive this seat will be in November.

Then, they enjoy a lefty columnist in Maine urging Democrats to write in Graham Platner in November because Democrats defied the will of the people in forcing Platner off the ballot. Jim and Greg are dubious that many voters will do this, but they welcome any splintering of the Democrats' vote.

Next, they note that opposition to data centers might be the biggest issue with bipartisan consensus right now. Jim and Greg walk through the concerns, some of them very valid, and the long-term consequences of stopping or sigificantly slowing data center construction.

Then, they shake their heads as Republican West Virginia Sen. Jim Justice is reportedly making plans to challenge incumbent GOP Gov. Patrick Morrisey in 2028. Justice has served less than two years in the Senate. Jim and Greg agree that serving in the Senate is not very fun these days but if you sign up for six years, you should know what the job involves.

Finally, a third Dan Sullivan is involved in the fight for a U.S. Senate seat in Alaska. Oh, and the vote totals in Alaska also haven't changed since Wednesday. They're stuck at 80 percent of the vote in.

She also contends Congress has plenty of money for government-run health care.

Then, they discuss the U.S. Navy reportedly considering whether to remove Pearl Harbor hero Doris Miller's name from a future aircraft carrier. The same reports also say some in the Navy want to rename it after President Trump. Jim contends no sitting president should have a carrier named for him and removing Miller's name would be seen as an insult.

Finally, they give a golf clap to California election officials for managing to count enough votes to determine a winner in a California congressional election within 48 hours.

Finally, they look at California's latest vote counting disgrace. The vote totals in a special congressional election have not budged in more than 24 hours. How are California Democrats not humiliated by this ridiculous system?

Finally, they get a good laugh as Democrat Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola publicly rejects an endorsement from former Vice President Kamala Harris. But other accounts suggests Peltola asked for the endorsement.

Then, they applaud a University of California-Berkeley math professor for venting that many of her students are entering the school anywhere from five to eight years behind in math and that she has to take time to teach concepts they should have learned in middle school. The professor, as well as Charlie and Greg, point to admissions policies and other factors that distract schools from simply admitting the best of the best.

Finally, they groan as a new poll shows a majority of Democrats, independents, and even Republicans all favor price controls. Charlie argues that many politicians are flat out lying about

We dig into the numbers and why that group is so much different than the others.

Next, they shake their heads as Minnesota Lt. Gov. and Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Peggy Flanagan says she bears no responsibility for the fraud scandal in her state because "the buck stops" with Gov. Tim Walz. She also wishes somebody would have done something about it sooner. Jim and Greg suspect voters will not be satisfied with that answer.

Then, they dig into New Jersey spending $135,000 in taxpayer dollars on a portrait of former Gov. Phil Murphy. That's $50,000 more than the price tag for Gov. Chris Christie's portrait eight years ago. Jim and Greg have a simple and very cost-effective solution.

Finally, they laugh as WNBA officials meet for hours to discuss who should be eligible to play in the league and they couldn't come to any conclusions.

Jim says you can be sure the next level of wokeness will be far worse.

Next, they shake their heads as El-Sayed refuses to distance himself from Hasan Piker and labels Piker's contention that we deserved 9/11 as dumb or out of context. Jim and Greg also consider how much this issue will hurt Piker and why these comments are not the same as most other issues.

Then, they thoroughly enjoy the desperate attempt by Wisconsin Democrats to do whatever they can to stop Francesca Hong from being the party's nominee for governor. Jim suspects it won't work because the Dem electorate is more radical than even a few years ago. Greg says this is a problem of the Dems' own creation.

Finally, they note the passing of former Georgia Rep. Ben Jones, who is best known as Cooter Davenport on The Dukes of Hazzard. Jim and Greg remember his brief time in Congress, his rivalry with Newt Gingrich, and the greatness of The Dukes of Hazzard.

Meanwhile, online posts from 2019 and 2020 are emerging in which the socialist frontrunner, Francesca Hong, wanted to ban Thanksgiving and felt uncomfortable eating around "old white people."

Next, they recoil as Pete Buttigieg tells Politico about his plans for radical change and incremental change if he's elected president in 2028. Jim and Greg detail just how insane Buttigieg's agenda is but point out the media will still call him a moderate because he doesn't yell much.

Then, they roll their eyes as the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts says freshmen will not get letter grades their first semester in order to help "curb the mental health crisis." The policy, which is set to begin in Fall 2027, will apply to all students. Jim and Greg wonder how we got this fragile.

Then, they weigh in on former Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes dropping out of the Democratic primary for governor as reports about his behavior towards young women in the party were set to come out. So far, the allegations are vague. Is this another example of the Dems nixing another one of their own candidates this cycle?

Then, they dissect the 12-day, 12-candidate sprint for the Republican U.S. Senate primary in South Carolina. Both Jim and Greg think voters deserve much more detail on every issue from Sen. Darline Graham if she wants a six-year term. They also weigh on on the candidacies of Reps. Ralph Norman and Russell Fry and former Gov. Mark Sanford.

First, they react to Anthony Fauci blasting Gov. DeSantis in August 2021 for blocking local mask mandates in schools. DeSantis was among the first governors to re-open their states in the spring of 2020, which also drew Fauci's ire. DeSantis was right both times and his victory lap is well-earned.

Next, they grimace as personnel from the right-leaning Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) are reporting lackluster enthusiasm from reliable Republican voters in the Des Moines, Iowa, suburbs. They say the same is true in other battleground states. Inflation and the economy are the biggest reasons. Jim and Greg point out that there isn't much time to change their minds before Election Day.

Then, they report on the latest proof-of-life photo and written statement from Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell. There is still no timetable for his return to the U.S. Senate. Meanwhile, Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear says McConnell needs to offer a lot more proof of his ability to do the job or resign. Jim and Greg also explain how the calendar plays a big role in this standoff.

Finally, they get a kick out of an effort to toss the new Maine Democratic Senate candidate off the ballot over "sore loser" laws. Troy Jackson lost the Democrat primary for governor before the party chose him to replace Graham Platner. Jim and Greg explain the laws and why the challenge probably won't succeed.

Jim and Greg point out that some of those are mainstream positions for Democrats and others are not far away. They also welcome polling that shows socialism deeply unpopular with independents.

Next, they wonder why President Trump allowed a pause in attacking Iran without getting Iran to agree to our terms first. Jim says there are two or three likely ways this war will end and none of them are ideal. They also discuss reports that U.S. Patriot missile supplies are dwindling.

Then, they shake their heads as Sen. Rand Paul releases the Fauci diaries from the COVID years, revealing Fauci knew as early as January of 2020 that the virus did not originate from a wet market. The diary entries also highlight Fauci's obsession with the slobbering media coverage he was getting and how he was playing politics all along.

Finally, they cheer the Greeks for shooting down an attempted Houthi missile strike against targets in Saudi Arabia.

Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch.

First, they get a kick out of Mayor Mamdani trying to issue a tough denunciation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Betanyahu while feebly admitting what we've always known: He has no power to arrest Netanyahu. Jim wonders if the left enjoys dreaming of things like arresting Netanyahu when they have to know it's never going to happen.

Next, they shake their heads as a socialist activist in New York City tells podcaster Nate Friedman that socialism is just about community and getting to know people by watching sports and having coffee together. Jim and Greg discuss how ridiculous this message is but how the right needs to be ready to confront it.

Then, Jim and Greg react to a clip of Hasan Piker calling the Chinese communist dictator Mao Zedong "one of the great leaders of this world" and "a man who changed the entire universe," insisting he never has and never will criticize him. Jim and Greg remind us that Mao's Great Leap Forward starved tens of millions of his own people to death in what's considered the deadliest famine in history.

Finally, they cover Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega abolishing elections, effectively extending his term indefinitely and closing off any path for the opposition to take over. Jim and Greg note the 80-year-old has been around for decades. The Reagan administration famously supported the Contra freedom fighters against Ortega's Sandinista government in the 1980s.

First, they dig into the dysfunctional Democratic primary for governor in the Badger State. The frontrunner is an avowed Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) candidate. The governor's preferred candidate had to drop out because her own staff cooked the books and the campaign ran out of money. And the other candidates are a mess too. Jim and Greg pop the popcorn.

Next, they sigh as two obvious Islamist extremist stabbings in New York City get described as possible hate crimes but also possible mental health issues. They also wince while remembering that Mamdani will play a prominent role in the 25th anniversary observances of 9/11 terrorist attacks in just a few weeks.

Then, they rip USA Today sports columnist and relentless woke warrior Nancy Armour for denouncing defenders of Caitlin Clark as white nationalists and comparing them to the lynch mob that killed Emmett Till in 1955. Jim and Greg discuss the insanity of that analogy. Jim also details how the WNBA is thoroughly committed to financial failure.

Finally, they groan as a new watchdog report shows that we cannot trace the final destination of nearly 75 percent of $958.6 billion in state grants.

Next, they cover good news in Minnesota, where friend of the show Michele Tafoya leads the Republican U.S. Senate primary with 41 percent. Jim and Greg praise her polished delivery and anti-fraud campaign ad, though they worry Mike Lindell's lead in the governor's primary could weigh down the ticket.

Then, they dig into New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill admitting a Motor Vehicle Commission software error registered 6,600 noncitizens to vote and allowed roughly 400 illegal votes. Jim questions why officials hid the two-year-old glitch, while Greg argues voter registration should not be a casual DMV add-on.

Finally, they highlight an Arizona toss-up congressional race featuring a New York Jets connection. Former NFL kicker Jay Feely won the GOP primary in the 1st Congressional District and will likely face Democrat Amish Shah, the team's former doctor. Jim and Greg note the winner could help determine control of the U.S. House.

Then, they pop the popcorn and enjoy watching Texas Rep. Brandon Gill slice and dice another woke witness in front of Congress. This time National Museum of American History Director Anthea Hartig was forced to answer for the Smithsonian's description/stereotype of white culture, which is indefensibly racist towards non-whites.

Finally, they applaud President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for refusing to help the despicable Tate brothers fight extradition to the United Kingdom.

Then, Jim and Greg welcome some good news as the Treasury stopped nearly $100 million in payments to deceased recipients, more than triple what was caught before Trump returned to office. The Treasury says its new verification system could stop up to $350 million in fraudulent payments before the year is out. Jim and Greg agree that while this may be a drop in the bucket compared to the national debt, any improvements should be celebrated.

Jim explains why he was deepy frustrated by the speech and why the documents don't seem to deliver what Trump suggested.

Then, they get a kick out of the awful Democratic U.S. Senate debate in Maine Thursday night. The New York Times said the prominent candidates struggled mightily, and the gadfly candidates were even more bizarre. Jim and Greg go over some of their favorite moments.

Finally, they react to a New York Post report on the sexual relationships Sen. Ruben Gallego had with staffers from other offices. Already reeling from his close connections to disgraced former California Rep. Eric Swalwell, this is more bad news for Gallego, who is pretty clear about his ambitions to run for president.

He’s also dead wrong in his efforts to dismiss the conservative accuser of Graham Platner. Jim and Greg blast the remarks as a grotesque new low for partisan tribalism.

Join Jim and Greg for the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss the recent testimonies of U.S. Supreme Court justices over threats they face, Maine Democrats racing to find a replacement nominee for Graham Platner, DEI policy’s reverse discrimination effects, and a new congressional bill requiring lawmakers to disclose extended absences to the public.

First, Jim and Greg react to SCOTUS Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan testifying in Congress and raising concerns over their security. Barrett had to wear a bulletproof vest after the decision to reverse Roe v. Wade was leaked and her family was targeted in a swatting attempt. Jim argues that conservative justices are particularly targeted in acts carried out by radicals on the left.

Next, they cover the scramble by Maine Democrats to find a Senate nominee to run against Sen. Susan Collins. On July 25, 601 Democrats will vote for potential candidates. And the whole process must be over a week from Saturday. Jim and Greg explain how this process is pathetic.

Then, Jim and Greg blast the obvious discrimination effects from DEI policy, affecting whites and Asian Americans, as well as blacks and Hispanics. They point to yesterday’s testimony from Inez Stepman of Independent Women (and a frequent 3 Martini Lunch guest host, who said we should “judge by merit, not by immutable characteristics.”

Finally, they address New York Rep. Ritchie Torres’s proposed Duty of Transparency Act, which would mandate Congress members “to give constituents timely notice of an extended absence from voting.” In light of prolonged absences for members of Congress who failed to adequately disclose reasons for their absences, Jim and Greg say this bill is headed in the right direction.
