It seems fitting that the Xbox Game Pass "Surprise Me" button has stealthily selected the freshest entry in that famed franchise as the subject of this episode. With lots of opportunities to nail down their core mechanics, will this game deliver on decades of optimization or has franchise fatigue resulted in a sub-par experience? In this action-adventure title by Inverge Studios, the world is suffering from an unstoppable infection, and the player is tasked with saving as many animals as possible before the end arrives. It sounds a bit like a futuristic Noah's Ark, where the gameplay elements focus on taming the local fauna to access new areas, expanding the number of new critters available to befriend. With just one hour to make a decision, have the game designers given our hosts a proper taste of the full experience? The Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has selected the massive asynchronous multiplayer title developed by Team WIBY and published by Devolver Digital for this episode. Asynchronous multiplayer is a pretty fancy way to say that the game is played solo, but the presence of other players is felt throughout the experience. For reference, think about doing a time trial against a "ghost" in your favorite racing game and then imagine there were a bunch of those time trial "ghosts" all moving through the level at same time. Will this hybrid resonate with Tom, who much prefers to play games alone at his own pace? How about Chris, who leans more into multiplayer games? Our hosts have each played their hour and now it is time to discuss if that hour will be the first of many!

In a fitting move, the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has randomly selected this aptly titled third-person action-adventure game. As the final game developed by Zoink before it was absorbed into Thunderful Development, this title has some decidedly indie sensibilities, including both literal dice rolls and card mechanics integrated into its otherwise action-style combat. Considering his appreciation of physical board games and his general aversion to digital card games, it will be interesting to see how Tom reacts to this particular mix. Join him and Chris as they roll the dice with this random game and discover if it leaves them feeling like winners or losers.
