| 19. Expose the elephant in the room | 26 Jun 2022 | 00:05:39 | |
As I mentioned yesterday in Tip#18, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority.
It matters.
Rather than following the same ol ‘hack this’ and ‘hack that’ visibility tactics - focus on the insights, hindsight, and foresight that only YOU can bring to the conversation through your years of experience and knowledge. Because it’s the wisdom and knowledge YOU bring through longevity in your industry that matters! Showcase THAT as you build your thought leadership collateral.
Another way to do that is to:
Expose the elephant in the room.
What is a mistruth or a mistake that your ideal client is not aware of and perhaps is something other providers in your industry are still teaching? Address it and share what your ideal clients should be doing instead.
One of the elephants in the room for me when it comes to helping businesses start their podcast – is the fixation on the number of downloads their podcast is getting. I’m sure you’ve heard the term Vanity Numbers – where people get caught up in the number of likes and shares and comments, and when it comes to podcasting the number of downloads. So, instead of focusing on Vanity Numbers – I encourage people to focus on and build Reputation Equity – because Reputation Equity is bankable, whereas Vanity numbers are not.
What do I mean when I say Reputation Equity is bankable – well this entire 30DaysToDistinction Challenge covers important insights and tips on how to build your reputation as that trusted authority. And, when you’ve got a reputation for bringing valuable insights and a reputation of delivering results – people hire you.
It was building Reputation Equity with my podcast – Ambitious Entrepreneur Show that saw several people message me and ask if I would consider selling my podcast after I announced I was stopping production. That’s the Reputation I had built over the years for that podcast and compelled people to reach out and enquire. If it hadn’t built its reputation – I'm sure no one would have been interested. That’s the value of building Reputation Equity rather than focusing on Vanity Numbers – which is an elephant in the room that I address.
Now it’s your turn.
What elephants in the room can you address when it comes to your industry?

| 18. Address the BS | 19 Jun 2022 | 00:03:43 | |
Firstly, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority.
One way to do that is to Address the BS in your industry.
To get your creative juices flowing:
What’s no longer true, or completely irrelevant for your ideal client, yet other providers in your industry are saying how important it is?
Yet, you know it’s only going to confuse and keep people stuck if they follow that ill advice? Address it and share what they should be doing instead.

| 17. Your Promise of Value and Promise of Expectation | 12 Jun 2022 | 00:03:58 | |
Today’s tip I want to speak to you about Your Promise of Value and your Promise of Expectation, which are two things you want to continue to express in your marketing and your message as it plays an integral role in helping you continue to build that irresistible factor with your ideal client.
And, if you get your Umbrella Statement right (which we spoke about in Tip # 15) your Umbrella Statement when crafted in the best possible way – showcases both your Promise of Value and Promise of Expectation.
Your Promise of Value is exactly that – the value you offer in terms of your expertise, the knowledge you share, and how it can help a client with their current challenge and in particular your knowledge and expertise can help them overcome their current challenge.
And, your Promise of Expectation is future pacing what is possible for them should they invest in themselves and say Yes to working with you. So, it’s the outcomes and what they can expect to achieve through working with you.
One of the techniques my clients will often hear me say is: always be seeding and leading.
Seeding and leading involve strategically sharing WHAT is possible and HOW this is possible.
For instance, one way to do this is by introducing an example of how one of your clients after implementing an insight you’ve just shared – how they were able to generate a result. The result your client achieved is a Promise of Expectation as to what is possible for them if they work with you.
You are validating the value they’ll achieve through working with you.
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?

| 16. Authenticity is NOT a buzzword | 05 Jun 2022 | 00:05:39 | |
Ever heard the saying ‘Marketers ruin everything?" EVERY Tom, Dick, and Harry (sorry to all of the Tom, Dick, and Harry’s out there – no offense to you) however just making my point that every sadly unscrupulous marketer under the sun – jumps on the bandwagon overusing something so much – that it can become tarnished.
An example where that happened recently was a technology platform I invested in, it was still in Beta with a promise to be an incredible solution. However, unbeknownst to the developers, there were a handful of people who had been using the email system to send out so many unsolicited emails the developers had to shut the entire email system down for months and months while they sorted out the issue of being black listed. It was terrible and a great example of how marketers – especially the unscrupulous marketers ruin everything.
Another example is when certain words and phrases are used. Personally, I despise the word ‘hack’ and ‘Hack this and hack that’ I would hear that word over and over on my podcast – years ago to the point I’d cringe every time I heard it.
Now one word that has been used and (in some instances) overused and abused is the word ‘authenticity,’ marketers talk about authenticity when they were anything but authentic in their approach and with their marketing.
For me the word ‘authentic’ is integral. My leading Brand Archetype is Explorer and the Explorer is all about pioneering the discovery of our truth. So, words such as unique, individual, and authentic are words that express what I stand for, and what I help people with – helping them identify what’s unique and authentic for them and helping them bring that out into their marketing and content.
So, for me Authenticity when it comes to your personal Brand (and my background in personal branding) is integral. This is why one of my core personal branding principles is Authenticity is NOT a buzzword – it's paramount.
Because the opposite of authenticity is fake, which is why I cringe when I hear other marketers tell their clients – just make up a story. Just fake it. Yuk! You’re a change-maker and change-makers don’t fake things, they don’t lie. Instead, being authentic means being genuine and being REAL. The real deal!
So, over to you. What do authenticity and being authentic mean to you and what aspects of being authentic will you continue to bring forward in your message?

| 15. Struggling to define your ONE thing? Do this | 29 May 2022 | 00:03:22 | |
Here’s another shout-out to all of the multi-passionate #entrepreneurs who struggle with defining their ONE THING.
Because limiting yourself to just ONE THING seems totally foreign to you.
And, life is too short to just focus on ONE THING.
You’ve got diverse interests, you love learning, and having to choose just ONE THING gives you heart palpitations.
I get it!
Guess what?!
You DON'T have to limit yourself to just ONE THING.
However, you DO have to change the way you speak about what you do.
Think of the ONE outcome you can help your client achieve through leveraging your unique blend of knowledge and experience you have to offer.
Then create an outcome-focused statement you know your ideal client will notice.
☂️ I call that: Your Umbrella Statement.
Here’s an example:
When I worked in the career industry my statement was: Get Noticed, Hired & Paid What You’re Worth.
It's what my clients needed help with.
I offered resume development, interview coaching, job search coaching etc, which sat under that statement.
Now with #businesses I help them: Build their Reach, Reputation (as a trusted authority) and their Revenue, with my expertise in #PersonalBranding, Business and #Podcast strategy.
YOUR NEXT STEP:

| 14. Why trying to be all things to all people never works | 22 May 2022 | 00:03:24 | |
Want to build your reach while becoming known as a trusted authority in your field? So that when your ideal client is looking for support you are THE choice vs just a choice for them?
Then when it comes to your message and what you offer – don't try to be all things to all people.
Because the broader your message is, the longer it’ll take to build your reach OR be seen as a trusted authority. If ever.
Because your message will get lost in the noise.
As I mentioned in Tip #12 to be irresistible you need to speak to an audience of one.
When you do focus on that audience of ONE, each piece of content you share will speak into the challenges he/she faces, along with the desired outcomes he/she longs, as well as invaluable insights on HOW they can begin to achieve that.
And, because you’re consistently sharing that consistent message across multiple platforms it won’t be long before your ideal client will instantly think of you when someone asks them “Who do you know that does [fill in the gap].” They’ll recommend you.
And, when they’re ready to make an investment – they'll hire you.
Because YOU are the person they instantly think of and couldn’t imagine working with anyone else.
For today’s Action – have a look over the pieces of content you’ve been sharing over the last few months? Is there a consistent message and theme coming across in your content? Or do you need to refine it?

| 13. Less is more | 15 May 2022 | 00:04:25 | |
You know how some marketers will often tell us we need to share more content, across more platforms, with more frequency so our message can cut through the noise?
That’s NOT really sound advice for Thought Leaders.
Especially, if you want to build your reputation as a Trusted Authority in your industry.
In fact, the opposite is true.
LESS is more.
Here’s what I mean.
It’s about quality NOT quantity.
It’s about focus NOT frequency.
It’s about innovation NOT irrelevant (outdated) principles that every second person is speaking about in your industry.
So the next time you sit down to create content, remind yourself:
Quality. Focus. Innovation.
Bring THAT to your content and conversations and it won’t be long before your message not only cut’s through the noise but begins to influence and impact others, too.
We’re told 'you need more content, more frequently, and across more platforms to stand out. If you're building your reputation as a trusted authority, I suggest ‘LESS IS MORE.’
Here’s what I mean…
⚠ NOT more content, but the RIGHT content
Content that:
➞ Is relevant AND nurtures your ideal client along the Buyer’s Journey as you build know, like, and trust;
➞ Challenges the status quo in your industry, bringing unique insights that only you can share based on your expertise;
➞ Compels him/her to take that next step when you invite them to do so.
⚠ NOT more frequently, but the RIGHT frequency, RIGHT format, approach
Are they busy? Provide bite-sized content.
Do they prefer listening? Create a podcast.
Prefer reading? Then, write.
Or better yet, offer your content in a variety of formats and at varying lengths so your content can be enjoyed by your ideal client no matter their situation or preference.
⚠ Not more platforms, but the RIGHT platform
Don’t be tempted to follow those ’platform-hacking-bro-marketing’ tactics.
YOU don’t need to hack anything.
Your work, and the impact you’ve been making for decades - speaks for itself.
You just need to find the RIGHT platforms and focus your efforts there!
Do you need to focus and double down on ONE platform – rather than stretching yourself too thin.
Do you need to refine your message so clear themes and topics come through that are aligned with what your ideal client is looking for?
Is there a language you're using more jargon and related to your industry –rather than the words and phrases your ideal client is using?
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?

| 12. Being Irresistible – speak to an audience of ONE | 08 May 2022 | 00:03:59 | |
Want to build your reach while becoming known as a trusted authority in your field?
Don’t try to be all things to all people – especially with the message you share.
The broader your message is, the longer it’ll take to build your reach OR be seen as a trusted authority. If ever.
Because your message will get lost in the noise.
Instead, hone your message to a specific niched audience.
And, speak to that niche. Speak to your audience of one.
When you do and you speak into the challenges, he/she faces, along with the desired outcomes he/she longs for, as well as invaluable insights on HOW they can begin to achieve that, it won’t be long before that audience of one becomes two, becomes four, eight, and so on.
Because you become a go-to resource and can continue to nurture your community into leads and inquiries and eventually customers.
But it starts with ONE, clear and highly-niched message that speaks to an audience of ONE.
Get clear on that first!
In the next few tips, I’ll be sharing more about how you can take that message, which you’re going to be using to speak to your audience of one – to the next level with various angles and topics you won’t want to miss.

| 11. Being Irresistible – what is it and is not | 01 May 2022 | 00:05:07 | |
Being irresistible as you would probably know means to be so compelling that you are hard to resist.
An online definition of irresistible said: too powerful or convincing to be resisted.
However, in the context of becoming irresistible to your ideal client – it's just that. Being irresistible to YOUR ideal client.
Not trying to be irresistible to everyone and anyone – but rather your ideal client.
Also, when it comes to being irresistible when it comes to business there are some certain areas I’m referring to, which are important you focus on (which I’ll dive deeper into in the upcoming tips) and some things you should avoid.
Let’s look at some of the things you should avoid.
So, often, we assume that to be irresistible we have to become someone or something that is going to stand out and attract our ideal client. And that becoming someone or something means we completely diminish who we are and/or how we come across.
Identify the best part of you and give yourself permission to shine. You don’t need to wear a mask or dull your light because someone else doesn’t like the way you show up.
That means you’re not for them and that’s ok.
You’re here to support a specific client, who will absolutely resonate with who you are and how you should up – that best part of YOU, which you’ve probably started to get clearer on through the last few tips we’ve been working on. The Distinction Triad and your unique Mannerisms and Characteristics.
Another aspect you want to avoid when it comes to being irresistible and what not to do relates to your message and your story. And, I’ve mentioned it before – never, ever, EVER think you need to make up your story because your current story is boring.
Any relationship that’s been based and built on a mistruth – a lie, is NOT the place to start. You just need to dig deeper to find the golden nuggets of what makes you irresistible.
Now that you know what NOT to do, tomorrow we’ll dive a little deeper into what to focus on when putting together an irresistible message for your ideal client.
However your take action step in the meantime, go back over the notes you took in your Take Action Guide about your Markers and Milestones and begin writing a few notes about which ones are most relevant to your ideal client. Jot them down as we’re going to be referring back to them in our upcoming tips over the next few days.

| 10. Your Uncopyable Story: Markers & Milestones | 24 Apr 2022 | 00:05:10 | |
Following on from yesterday’s tip where I spoke about two elements that are unique and uncopyable about you being a blend of your characteristics and your mannerisms, today I’m sharing another two elements that no one else can copy because they’re unique to you and no-one else.
And, when you weave these elements into your story and your message – no one else can copy it because it’s not their journey NOR has it happened to them.
Today I’m talking about Markers and Milestones.
Markers are significant events in your life, such as challenges and struggles that you have had to face and overcome. Milestones are the successes, the achievements you have secured when facing those challenges.
Now when thinking about Markers and Milestones, Markers must be relevant to your ideal client and something they resonate with, are most likely struggling with themselves and the milestones must also be something your ideal client resonates with, because most likely this is something they’re longing to achieve – however haven’t been able to figure out HOW.
For instance, one of my uncopyable story angles is when I started Women In Leadership Podcast. It was after my worst business failure ever and I started Women In Leadership Podcast to help me deal with my grief and loss. With only 3 episodes being published, I thought if I can generate 2 x 4 figure clients accidentally from a podcast I started to help me deal with my grief and loss – what would be possible if I backtracked the steps my clients took to get them to the point where they had gone from not knowing me at all, googling Brand and Business Consultant, come to my website, listen to the podcasts, search around the site and decide they’d want to work with me.
A book – Industry Thought Leader – how to go from Invisible to Influential (and profitable) with a podcast and my course – Podcasting With Purpose was born and now this is something I teach my clients, coaches and consultants who are looking to leverage a podcast to build their reach, reputation (as a trusted authority) and their revenue from their very first episode.
That’s one of my stories, which is unique and uncopyable – because it’s my journey.
Now it’s time for you to identify some of the Markers and Milestones that’s relevant for you in your Take Action Guide.
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?

| 09: Being Unique and Uncopyable starts here (Mannerisms and Characteristics) | 17 Apr 2022 | 00:04:23 | |
Yesterday I spoke about what it means to Uncopyable and how when we identify unique elements about who we are – no one can copy you. In today’s tip, I want to speak about two of those and in tomorrow’s tip – I’ll share two more.
Today, I want to talk about your Characteristics (or character traits) and Mannerisms.
Your characteristics are your distinguishing features and qualities.
Your mannerisms – are a group of verbal or other unconscious habitual behaviors that are particular to you.
In fact – your mannerisms can bring out your character.
For instance, a confident person (which could be a character of confidence) can be brought to life by maintaining eye contact when you speak. Walking upright with your head held higher can also exude the character of confidence.
The opposite mannerism that brings out the character of being shy and/or reserved, could be speaking softly, head tilted downward, avoiding eye contact.
Some other character traits could be honest, brave, bold, compassionate, lead, courageous, loyal.
So, today, take some time to reflect on some of your unique characteristics and mannerisms and write them down in your Take Action Guide.
And, then come back for tomorrow’s tip where I’ll be sharing two more unique and uncopyable elements that make you YOU and that no-one else can copy.
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?

| 08: Being Uncopyable – what it is and is NOT | 10 Apr 2022 | 00:05:28 | |
Today I want to speak about what I mean when I speak about being Uncopyable, and what it is NOT.
To me and what I’m supporting my clients in identifying are all of the unique and uncopyable elements about who they are, along with their journey and experience that no-one else can copy.
It’s uncopyable because it isn’t their history, their story, their journey. It’s YOUR’s and your’s alone.
Recently, I heard a business owner share that she attended a training and the facilitator told attendees – if you don’t have an interesting story – just make one up.
I don’t know about your definition of ‘make something up.’ However, making something up – faking it till you make it – is a deception, a lie.
And, as the Change Maker I know you are – you don’t need to fake it till you make it, nor do you make something up.
You just need to dig deeper to identify the unique and uncopyable aspects of you. And, that’s exactly what we’ll be covering tomorrow – and in this entire 30DaysToDistinction Challenge. It’s ALL important.
So, today’s tip – you don’t need to fake anything, nor do you need to ‘make something up.’ You just need to dig deeper and uncover the unique and uncopyable aspects that make you – YOU.
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?

| 07: The importance of defining your ONE thing | 03 Apr 2022 | 00:05:51 | |
Are you a multi-passionate person, who loves to learn, you have many interests, and you struggle to define who you are and how you can support people in one succinct statement?
Yeah – me too. I struggled with that for YEARS.
In fact, if you’ve followed me for a minute – you'd have heard me share before how as multi - passionate individuals who LOVE learning, we need to be mindful NOT to let our diverse interests - water down our message.
Because focusing on too many things – without a clear and compelling outcome (which speaks to the outcome our ideal client seeks) will mean our message gets lost in the noise. One of the ways I watered down my message years ago was when I started speaking about social media to business groups.
They’d heard about the success my co - host and I were having with leveraging social media to promote our podcast, so wanted me to share all of our secrets. I was happy too. However, what invertedly happened was that my core message of Personal Branding was watered down, as I spoke more about social media.
Until one of my close colleagues hired a personal brand strategist, after completely forgetting that I could have helped her.
That was a HUGE wake-up call for me. And, led me to become far more mindful of and strategic about what I spoke about and how I positioned my message.
I wonder – when it comes to YOUR message... are you building your reputation as a go-to authority in your area of expertise? Or like me all those years ago, you’re watering down your message because of the vast topics you speak about?
In today’s tip, I want you to check back over the last 10 pieces of content you shared across your social media platforms, your blog, your podcast and ask yourself – are these aligned to a clear and concise message that positions me as distinguishable, uncopyable and irresistible in a clear area of expertise so I’m building my reputation as a trusted authority in a key area? Or not? If not, you need to make a decision as to how you’re going to refine your ONE thing, which you want to become known for.
What is it that the combination of your experience, knowledge, and certifications will enable you to support YOUR ideal client to achieve their goals/outcomes? For me, it was helping clients stand out, be heard, and become influential voices in their industry. The trusted authority. THE choice vs just a choice for their ideal client.

| 06: The Distinction Triad | 27 Mar 2022 | 00:04:27 | |
In yesterday’s tip I shared what it means to be distinguishable and that it was NOT tooting your own trumpet and saying how wonderful you are and better than everyone and anyone else in your industry. But rather it’s about highlight areas that speaks directly to your ideal client and positions you being better-placed to serve and support them in achieving their goals and desired outcomes.
And the areas that can help you do that is in today’s tip – The Distinction Triad.
I can up with the Distinction Triad after working with a client and helped her put together her personal marketing document – her resume. She started her career working as an Office Admin and over the years had become a Change Management Consultant overseeing multimillion dollar IT change projects for semi-government organisations.
She had gone from strength to strength and as I wrote her achievement statements and reviewed her career I identified three distinct areas that she had continuously brought to the workplace that had seen her go from strength to strength and it’s something we can all use, whether we’re an executive working in corporate – or an entrepreneur working in our own business.
The three things are Aptitude, Attitude and Approach.
I'll talk about Aptitude a little further today, however, make sure you download the Declaration and Take Action Guide at www.IndustryThoughtLeaderAcademy.com/Distinction so you can begin to work on all three.
Let’s talk about Aptitude. Your Aptitude is your Talent. Your strengths, your skills and your knowledge.
Attitude if your character, mindset, belief and frame of mind.
And, your approach is your Style, your temperament, how you react to specific situations and your sensibility.
Each of these are important and when blended together can be powerful in becoming distinguishable, uncopyable and irresistible.
How clear are you on your Aptitude, your Attitude and Approach? Can you define them? And, are you leveraging them to distinguish how you are better-served to support your ideal client?

| 05: Being Distinguishable – what it is and is NOT | 20 Mar 2022 | 00:04:06 | |
Being Distinguishable – what it is and what it is NOT.
Let’s start with what it is NOT.
Being distinguishable is NOT thinking and acting as if you’re all that.
In fact, it has nothing to do with being better or greater than anyone or everyone else. I
Being distinguishable is not about saying how wonderful you are, and big noting yourself, tooting your own horn.
In fact, it has nothing to do with feeding your ego at all.
Being distinguishable is about pointing out key areas that you know is going to stand out from the noise, capture the attention of your ideal client, because it resonates with them.
In fact, I have a saying: Being Distinguishable is NOT you’re better than everyone else, but rather how you’re better placed to support your ideal client.
Being distinguishable is about how you are unique and can demonstrate how your skills, knowledge, experience, achievements etc are distinguishable are set apart from others in your industry and best able to support your ideal client in overcoming the challenges that are keeping them stuck and achieving the outcomes they want to achieve.
It’s not about being better – but being better-placed to support your ideal client and validating that through the content and message you share.
Tomorrow's tip #6 is where I share The Distinction Triad and the areas you can bring into your content and message you share to show your ideal client how you are distinguishable and better-placed to support them.
See you tomorrow.
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?

| [Ep#217] 6 Mindset and Practical Shifts to Make This Year Your Best Yet | 26 Jan 2024 | 00:28:15 | |
Are you ready to make 2024 your best year yet?
In the latest episode of the Women in Leadership Podcast, Annemarie Cross and special guest Karen Crowell shared 6 mindset and practical shifts to help you level up this year. These strategies are designed to help you overcome challenges, set and achieve your goals, and elevate your success, no matter what industry you're in.
Here are 3 Key Takeaways from this episode:
🔑 Audrey's Inner Circle Audit: Auditing the 5 closest people we surround ourselves with can have a significant impact on our focus and mindset. If we can't change the people we're around, we can change the conversations we have to ensure we're getting the positivity and support needed to thrive.
🔑 Crunch Time Question: Asking, "If I am to achieve a dream that had previously seemed impossible within the next 12 months, what would I have to let go of, and what would I have to embrace?" is a powerful way to gain clarity and focus on the steps necessary to achieve our goals.
🔑 Focus on the Fix, Not the Fault: Shifting our focus to finding solutions rather than dwelling on faults can be a game-changer. This mindset shift allows us to take responsibility, learn from setbacks, and move forward productively.
