19. Expose the elephant in the room

dimanche 26 juin 2022Durée 05:39

As I mentioned yesterday in Tip#18, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority.   It matters. Rather than following the same ol ‘hack this’ and ‘hack that’ visibility tactics - focus on the insights, hindsight, and foresight that only YOU can bring to the conversation through your years of experience and knowledge. Because it’s the wisdom and knowledge YOU bring through longevity in your industry that matters! Showcase THAT as you build your thought leadership collateral. Another way to do that is to:  Expose the elephant in the room.  What is a mistruth or a mistake that your ideal client is not aware of and perhaps is something other providers in your industry are still teaching? Address it and share what your ideal clients should be doing instead.   One of the elephants in the room for me when it comes to helping businesses start their podcast – is the fixation on the number of downloads their podcast is getting. I’m sure you’ve heard the term Vanity Numbers – where people get caught up in the number of likes and shares and comments, and when it comes to podcasting the number of downloads. So, instead of focusing on Vanity Numbers – I encourage people to focus on and build Reputation Equity – because Reputation Equity is bankable, whereas Vanity numbers are not.  What do I mean when I say Reputation Equity is bankable – well this entire 30DaysToDistinction Challenge covers important insights and tips on how to build your reputation as that trusted authority. And, when you’ve got a reputation for bringing valuable insights and a reputation of delivering results – people hire you.  It was building Reputation Equity with my podcast – Ambitious Entrepreneur Show that saw several people message me and ask if I would consider selling my podcast after I announced I was stopping production. That’s the Reputation I had built over the years for that podcast and compelled people to reach out and enquire. If it hadn’t built its reputation – I'm sure no one would have been interested. That’s the value of building Reputation Equity rather than focusing on Vanity Numbers – which is an elephant in the room that I address.  Now it’s your turn.  What elephants in the room can you address when it comes to your industry?  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? 18. Address the BS

dimanche 19 juin 2022Durée 03:43

Firstly, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority. One way to do that is to Address the BS in your industry.   To get your creative juices flowing:   What’s no longer true, or completely irrelevant for your ideal client, yet other providers in your industry are saying how important it is?   Yet, you know it’s only going to confuse and keep people stuck if they follow that ill advice? Address it and share what they should be doing instead.  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? 17. Your Promise of Value and Promise of Expectation

dimanche 12 juin 2022Durée 03:58

Today’s tip I want to speak to you about Your Promise of Value and your Promise of Expectation, which are two things you want to continue to express in your marketing and your message as it plays an integral role in helping you continue to build that irresistible factor with your ideal client.  And, if you get your Umbrella Statement right (which we spoke about in Tip # 15) your Umbrella Statement when crafted in the best possible way – showcases both your Promise of Value and Promise of Expectation.  Your Promise of Value is exactly that – the value you offer in terms of your expertise, the knowledge you share, and how it can help a client with their current challenge and in particular your knowledge and expertise can help them overcome their current challenge.  And, your Promise of Expectation is future pacing what is possible for them should they invest in themselves and say Yes to working with you. So, it’s the outcomes and what they can expect to achieve through working with you.  One of the techniques my clients will often hear me say is: always be seeding and leading.  Seeding and leading involve strategically sharing WHAT is possible and HOW this is possible.  For instance, one way to do this is by introducing an example of how one of your clients after implementing an insight you’ve just shared – how they were able to generate a result. The result your client achieved is a Promise of Expectation as to what is possible for them if they work with you.  You are validating the value they’ll achieve through working with you.  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?   Access my free Masterclass, on how to become Distinguishable, Uncopyable and Irresistible to your ideal client – even if you’re in a crowded marketplace.  Go to: www.IndustryThoughtleaderAcademy.com/DistinguishableMessage  Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. 16. Authenticity is NOT a buzzword

dimanche 5 juin 2022Durée 05:39

Ever heard the saying ‘Marketers ruin everything?" EVERY Tom, Dick, and Harry (sorry to all of the Tom, Dick, and Harry’s out there – no offense to you) however just making my point that every sadly unscrupulous marketer under the sun – jumps on the bandwagon overusing something so much – that it can become tarnished.  An example where that happened recently was a technology platform I invested in, it was still in Beta with a promise to be an incredible solution. However, unbeknownst to the developers, there were a handful of people who had been using the email system to send out so many unsolicited emails the developers had to shut the entire email system down for months and months while they sorted out the issue of being black listed. It was terrible and a great example of how marketers – especially the unscrupulous marketers ruin everything.  Another example is when certain words and phrases are used. Personally, I despise the word ‘hack’ and ‘Hack this and hack that’ I would hear that word over and over on my podcast – years ago to the point I’d cringe every time I heard it.  Now one word that has been used and (in some instances) overused and abused is the word ‘authenticity,’ marketers talk about authenticity when they were anything but authentic in their approach and with their marketing.  For me the word ‘authentic’ is integral. My leading Brand Archetype is Explorer and the Explorer is all about pioneering the discovery of our truth. So, words such as unique, individual, and authentic are words that express what I stand for, and what I help people with – helping them identify what’s unique and authentic for them and helping them bring that out into their marketing and content.  So, for me Authenticity when it comes to your personal Brand (and my background in personal branding) is integral. This is why one of my core personal branding principles is Authenticity is NOT a buzzword – it's paramount.  Because the opposite of authenticity is fake, which is why I cringe when I hear other marketers tell their clients – just make up a story. Just fake it. Yuk! You’re a change-maker and change-makers don’t fake things, they don’t lie.  Instead, being authentic means being genuine and being REAL. The real deal!   So, over to you. What do authenticity and being authentic mean to you and what aspects of being authentic will you continue to bring forward in your message?  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? 15. Struggling to define your ONE thing? Do this

dimanche 29 mai 2022Durée 03:22

Here’s another shout-out to all of the multi-passionate #entrepreneurs who struggle with defining their ONE THING.   Because limiting yourself to just ONE THING seems totally foreign to you. And, life is too short to just focus on ONE THING. You’ve got diverse interests, you love learning, and having to choose just ONE THING gives you heart palpitations. I get it!  Guess what?! You DON'T have to limit yourself to just ONE THING. However, you DO have to change the way you speak about what you do. Think of the ONE outcome you can help your client achieve through leveraging your unique blend of knowledge and experience you have to offer. Then create an outcome-focused statement you know your ideal client will notice. ☂️ I call that: Your Umbrella Statement.  Here’s an example:  When I worked in the career industry my statement was: Get Noticed, Hired & Paid What You’re Worth. It's what my clients needed help with. I offered resume development, interview coaching, job search coaching etc, which sat under that statement.  Now with #businesses I help them: Build their Reach, Reputation (as a trusted authority) and their Revenue, with my expertise in #PersonalBranding, Business and #Podcast strategy.  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? 14. Why trying to be all things to all people never works

dimanche 22 mai 2022Durée 03:24

Want to build your reach while becoming known as a trusted authority in your field? So that when your ideal client is looking for support you are THE choice vs just a choice for them?  Then when it comes to your message and what you offer – don't try to be all things to all people.  Because the broader your message is, the longer it’ll take to build your reach OR be seen as a trusted authority. If ever.   Because your message will get lost in the noise.   As I mentioned in Tip #12 to be irresistible you need to speak to an audience of one.  When you do focus on that audience of ONE, each piece of content you share will speak into the challenges he/she faces, along with the desired outcomes he/she longs, as well as invaluable insights on HOW they can begin to achieve that.  And, because you’re consistently sharing that consistent message across multiple platforms it won’t be long before your ideal client will instantly think of you when someone asks them “Who do you know that does [fill in the gap].” They’ll recommend you.  And, when they’re ready to make an investment – they'll hire you.  Because YOU are the person they instantly think of and couldn’t imagine working with anyone else.  For today’s Action – have a look over the pieces of content you’ve been sharing over the last few months? Is there a consistent message and theme coming across in your content? Or do you need to refine it?  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online?
