My Bushmills Chat with 92yr old Les Duthie02 Mar 202602:01:00

Join me for My Bushmills Chat with Les Duthie.

Les Duthie was the Bushmills Distillery manager from the early 70's until the mid-90's.

He is 92 yrs young and has a memory like an elephant. I went and sat with Les at his home in Bushmills village, a mere stone's throw from Bushmills Distillery.

He grew up in Glasgow and entered into the drinks industry in the 1950's, where he spent his entire career, ending up as Distillery Manager in Bushmills during a pivotal point in Irish history - The Troubles.

This was a privilege to sit and chat with Les and I expect you will learn as much from him as I did.

Thank you to his daughter Shirley and also to Adrian McLoughlin from The Harbourview Whiskey Hotel in Carnlough for facilitating this chat.

My Pub Chat with Stephen Magennis from Echlinville Distillery20 Feb 202601:17:00

Join me for My Pub Chat with Stephen Magennis from Echlinville Distillery.

I met up with Steve in The Duke of York pub in Belfast city centre, truly one of the best decorated pubs on the island. Just amazing place to sit.

We took up residence in the wee snug, down the back, an chatted about Stephen's time working in the whiskey industry for nearly 20yrs. Steve has a really good perspective of where we were before the resurgance of Irish Whiskey and where we are now. He is not afraid to speak the hard truths too and it made this chat all the more interesting.

My Tasmanian Whisky Chat with John Halton02 Sep 202201:21:43

Join me for My Tasmanian Whisky Chat with John Halton.

John Holtan and I hosted a Tasmanian Whiskey tasting up on Belfast Whiskey Week in July 2022. The quality of the whiskys blew me away, so I grabbed John for a chat in The Europa Hotel at 10am the next morning before I left Belfast.

The affinity that alot of Tasmanians feel towards their Irish heritage was an real eye opener, given the history of Irish 'convicts' being transported to Van Diemans Land, as it was then known, by the British.

Join me for My Midleton Micro Distillery Chat with Barrett Stapleton - Head Distiller in the Micro.

Barrett originally hails from the US and has beat a really interesting path to his current position in Midleton Distillery.

He came back to Ireland at the end of Covid, after studying in UCC in the early 00's, to start work distilling in Clonakilty Distillery.

From Electrician to Scuba Instructor, from Hawaii to Antarctica, I am so glad that none of those things dissuaded Barrett from joining the Irish Whiskey fraternity, because he is a genuine, passionate, bubbly character whose passion is infectious.

He's my kinda guy and I think after listening to this chat, you'll understand why it's so important to have people like this in the Irish Whiskey Industry.

My Stonewell Cidery Chat with Daniel Emerson20 Jun 202501:15:42

Join me for My Stonewell Cidery Chat with Daniel Emerson.

Founded by Daniel and Geraldine Emerson in 2009, Stonewell is a small family-run cider producer. Their story began with an old French press and apple mill from Geraldine's Loire Valley family before upgrading to a modern press at their Carrigaline Production facility.

I joined Daniel in Carrigaline and we walked amongst their fermenters and chatted about how Stonewell have always used apples that are sourced from orchards across Waterford, Kilkenny, Laois, Tipperary, and Cork. They use traditional cider apples like Dabinett and Michelin, blended with eating varieties such as Jonagored, Elstar, and Falstaff

Stonewell cider always stood out to me as one of the better cider offerings in bars. This trip down to them confirmed that.

My Garden Chat tasting Celtic Cask whiskeys part 221 Jun 202101:41:30
Join me for part 2 of My Garden Chat with Aidan McGovern, Dan Pennington & JP O'Riordan as we laugh our way through tasting Celtic Casks aswell as a few gems also. They called up to my outdoor studio I set up in my back garden on a glorious June weekend and we shared a few beers, cigars, whiskeys and chat. I want to thank Julie Christie, Ally Alpine and Celtic Whiskey for providing us with the samples, and very generous samples they were too. I split the chat into two parts, i could have shortened it into one, but it was such great fun I thought it would be good to share it. My Chat with James Doherty, owner of Sliabh Liag Distillery15 Jun 202102:10:18
Join me for My Chat with James Doherty, owner and founder of Sliabh Liag Distillery, along with his wife Moira. They immigrated back to Donegal, where James spent so much of his youth visiting family. James and Moira founded a distillery, where they have been releasing An Dúlamán Irish Maritime Gin and also the Silkie range of whiskeys, using sourced Great Northern Distillery liquid to great fanfare. Their new distillery is going to focus on releasing peated only whiskeys, which is very exciting for the Irish whiskey industry.
