If you’ll recall, back a few weeks ago, I promised you a series called “The Dumbest Thing I’ve Heard Lately.” Part 1 was published on June 27th, so if you haven’t listened to that, you can go back after you’ve listened to this episode—they are each stand-alone and not in any particular order.

The reason I’m creating this series is because I’m tired of all the bad business advice I keep seeing on these social media streets that people are all too quick to buy into. My intention is to offer you a different perspective to help you decide if certain advice is right for you.

Why Solos Aren’t 7-Figure Law Firm Owners

In today’s episode of the Wealthy Woman Lawyer® Podcast, I want to discuss something that most law firm coaches are afraid to tell you: it is highly unlikely to achieve 7 figures in a law firm business if you are still operating as a solo.

Yes, even if you have one or two staffers working for you.

It’s a hot topic, and we are going to get into it today. If you are a solo and you are listening to this thinking “Davina, that’s not true! Don’t crush my dreams!” I hear you, and I encourage you to please hear me out, because after 9 years—almost 10—of helping women law firm owners scale their law firm businesses I never want to crush someone’s dream or tell them about “reality.” I believe we have the power to create our own reality—however, the path to get there may not look the way we envision.

What I do want to do in today’s episode is challenge some of the beliefs that may be holding you back from achieving your biggest, baddest, most audacious goals.

Christie Arkovich | Can You Build Wealth with 6-Figures in Student Loan Debt?

In this episode of the Wealthy Woman Lawyer® podcast, I chat with Christie Arkovich, a Florida licensed attorney for more than 30 years, and a frequent presenter for continuing legal education seminars hosted by the American Bankruptcy Institute (“ABI”), the National Association of Consumer Advocates (“NACA”) and the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association (the “TBBBA”).

Christie also writes a quarterly column for the TBBBA, Student Loan Sidebar, and maintains a Youtube Channel for the Student Loan Sidebar at www.youtube.com/c/arkovichlaw about recent student loan related laws, regulations, and developments nationwide.

Prior to starting her own law firm in 1995, Christie worked as trial counsel for Sallie Mae, ECMC and other student loan servicers or guarantors. She recently served on the Student Loan Committee for the new Student Loan Management Program in the Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida and was Chair of the Consumer CLE for the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association for 2019-2022.

“Most of our clients nowadays, you know, they want to repay what they borrow, they understand they signed a contract (and) they're good with that. What they can't pay is the excessiveness…because with the cost of interest with a default, which basically adds 25%
collection costs on a federal loan, you end up with just something that's unpayable. We get
rid of that excessiveness, and then we try to do it in a way that's tax free, or at least with an
understanding of what that potential tax issue could be..” – Christie Arkovich
