115: Taking a Hold of Your Future PLUS an Announcement

Épisode 115

lundi 4 juillet 2022Durée 13:47

We're in a unique time. When it comes to finding a career that is your true fit, we're facing so many options - embrace the opportunity! In this episode, I reflect on an enlightening week spent in London working with former Prime Minister of the UK, Tony Blair, and the Tony Blair Institute, and seeing where opportunity led me. So what are the doors that you're going to open to see what then opportunities are for you? Because there is no "I could never do that" anymore.
Announcement: The podcast will be on break for the rest of the summer, and back labour day Monday. Make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss the exciting launch. If you have topics, guests or things you'd like to see for the podcast, I'd love to hear from you. Send me a note on my website: www.jimbeqaj.com  See you in September!

114: Finding the courage to pursue your dreams

Épisode 114

lundi 27 juin 2022Durée 12:31

One of the things I've realized in my coaching practice is that people don't often think about their dreams. Instead they talk about making more money or getting a promotion, but never the journey that will get them there. At the core of it all, there's a hesitancy to have the courage to make something happen in the first place. In this episode, I unpack how to communicate your dreams, where to find courage, and how - when you find it - it can open up more opportunities in your career and personal life that you could have never imagined.

105: The Truth About Mentorship

Épisode 105

lundi 25 avril 2022Durée 11:01

Mentorship is a loaded word and for good reason because good mentors can make a huge impact on a person. But bad mentors can do serious damage. Mentorship is so important but it’s being facilitated all wrong. I discuss some thoughts on how an organization should approach mentorship and along with it, their succession plan, in a way that really speaks to the heart of their people.

15: Keep your foot on the gas

Épisode 15

lundi 8 juin 2020Durée 20:28

The Black Lives Matter movement has shaken the world, and myself and many others have been forced to look inward and be honest.

We have this incredible momentum that has been hard fought, but why don't things change? It's time for the small group of privileged people, who have benefited from systemic racism, to think deeply about how we are going to be different going forward.

In this episode, I'm aiming to help people like myself understand how they can take a stand against all types of internalized racism, from your power to vote, to hiring and more.

The whole world is watching. We all have to do our part and hold ourselves and the systems around us accountable.

Looking to put your money where your mouth is?
I've donated to the following organizations and you can do the same:

Black Lives Matter - Toronto
The Bail Project

Read the
Anti-Racism Resources Document, intended to serve as a resource to white people and parents to deepen our anti-racism work. Feel free to circulate this document on social media and with your friends, family and colleagues.

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.

Good performance, bad behaviour

lundi 8 juin 2020Durée 14:19

Who's that one person in your day-to-day at work that makes your life absolutely miserable? In this episode, Jim discusses the effect of power-hungry colleagues who are on a seek-and-destroy mission of their own selves. So often we'll do everything in our power to try to fix this unbearable behaviour, and come up short. Jim tell you how to deal with these types of people, and save your sanity in the process.

14: Are you still well suited or are your days numbered?

Épisode 14

lundi 1 juin 2020Durée 17:40

Over the last three months, we've seen that things are changing quickly and not necessarily making sense. As we think about our work routines and prepare to move forward, I wanted to take this episode to expand on the conversation and help you understand who you are as a professional. The job industry isn't looking too promising these days and this can be pretty frightening to many people, from college kids just entering the workforce to executives with years under their belts.

In this episode, I dissect how to look for a job during these times, understand the new opportunities that are being created and rely on your transferable skills to snag them. Many of us will be looking for a fresh start coming out of lock-down, and the industry that you've been in doesn't define you.

13: The work-from-home movement just went ballistic.

Épisode 13

lundi 25 mai 2020Durée 18:59

It's awfully easy to become a hermit these days, so what if work-from-home became permanent? Freelancers and self employed professionals have been doing it successfully for years, so what will happen when corporations follow suit?

In this episode, I discuss the opportunities that working from home has created, and how managers and employers alike can use them to make changes for the better.  The possibilities for our lives to be different and for the quality to improve are endless - they're only bound by our imagination.

12: Make the new workday normal: creating your new reality

Épisode 12

lundi 18 mai 2020Durée 20:50

No one really knows when or if things will go back to normal, so it's time to start asking yourself the right questions and to adapt to your new reality. How is your current work-life balance, and will it work in the long-term?

In this episode, I'm looking at how we can start to move forward with a new workday, both in a management role or as a team member. There are plenty of inspiring examples of people who've been adapting to the current way of life, and some might be sticking to it for the foreseeable future. But now, a new issue is that people lost track of their boundaries, entire lives have morphed into working 24/7.

So, let's take a moment to ask ourselves if we're happy, and how we can get some normalcy back.

11: Educating yourself is your passport to the future

Épisode 11

lundi 11 mai 2020Durée 13:10

When you have the feeling of being left at sea, education is the best way out and I'm excited about the opportunities ahead. In order to make the best informed decisions, we need to be looking at all sides.
In this episode, I try to open up a more uplifting dialogue about staying educated and the importance of diversifying our sources of information. For so long we've all been stuck in our individual bubbles and now we have the time to engage in diversity of thought and listen without emotion.
Don't get caught up in the bad news, and look ahead for the light at the end of the tunnel and how to get there - it won't be where you expect it to be!
