| 🎙️Crooked Media’s “Killing Justice” Limited Series Explores the Mysterious Death of an Indian Judge and its Connection to the Prime Minister | 11 Jun 2024 | 00:02:44 | |
WHAT: Killing Justice investigates how one man’s death has become a lodestone for increasingly polarized politics in India. From Crooked Media and The Branch. When a judge in India dies of a heart attack, his passing barely makes the news. But when his niece approaches a journalist two years later, she shares a different story: that the circumstances around Judge Brijgopal Loya’s death have made his family doubt the official story. Following the reporting and legal fallout that arise from this tip, host Ravi Gupta examines the conflicting evidence and grapples with the broader implications a single night in the city of Nagpur has on the world’s largest democracy. Releasing against the backdrop of India’s election, Killing Justice invites listeners into the shadowy world of India’s political power players, including Amit Shah, a longtime operative who helped catapult Modi to political dominance, who is at the center of the Judge Brijgopal Loya case. Ravi’s findings show how the justice system works for India’s political elite, creating a market where true justice is eluded and innocence can be bought and sold. WHO: Host Ravi Gupta is a journalist, founder, former Obama staffer and co-host of the Majority 54 podcast. Ravi’s new series, produced by Crooked Media and Ravi’s nonprofit digital media company The Branch, finds him digging into his own family history and tracing down sources in India to understand just how delicate its democracy has become in the face of the growing Hindu nationalism movement. Ravi is the Founder and CEO of The Branch, a non-profit media company that fights against polarization and misinformation. Prior to The Branch, Ravi co-founded Arena and led a team that helped elect dozens of candidates and launched the largest campaign staffer training academy in the history of the Democratic Party. He also founded RePublic Schools, a network of charter schools in the South, including the first and only two charter schools in Tennessee to rank in the top 5% of all public schools for growth and absolute performance. Ravi held several roles on Barack Obama’s first campaign and first term, including as assistant to David Axelrod and Susan Rice. Ravi also serves as the Founder and CEO of Squadra Health, a longevity medicine and wellness company, and as co-host of Majority 54, a political podcast about talking to friends and family with different political beliefs. | 🎙️Introducing: But We Loved - a new exploration of queer history with the wisdom of LGBTQ+ elders who lived it | 17 May 2024 | 00:02:11
From iHeartPodcasts and the Outspoken Network comes But We Loved, a new podcast that uncovers the untold stories of queer history through intimate interviews with LGBTQ+ elders, who share their wisdom, their struggle, and — most importantly – their triumph. As a gay kid growing up Catholic, in conservative Texas, Jordan Gonsalves knew nothing about queer history. Now, as a journalist, he’s searching for the stories he craved when he was coming of age. Through the show, he discovers the role models he always needed and the wisdom they’ve been waiting to pass down. This weekly show will cover major historical topics like Stonewall, gay marriage, and the AIDS crisis — but also other areas of queer life like sex work, coming out on YouTube, and the history of Vouging. Guests include Jim Obergefell, the plaintiff in the case that legalized gay marriage for all Americans, and Eric Marcus, host of Making Gay History. “Growing up, I thought being gay was the worst thing I could ever be. But making this show has forced me to completely unlearn that. These are amazing stories of bravery and perseverance,” says Gonsalves. Host Jordan Gonsalves is a graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism and creator of the groundbreaking interview podcast Unshaming. He has a unique beat: shame and its impact on people. His master's thesis from Columbia on HIV in the military was published in Time Magazine. Would like to recommend a podcast to our readers. Press the button underneath. | 🎙️Wondery Announces New Pop Culture Podcast Lemme Say This with Hosts Hunter Harris and Peyton Dix | 16 May 2024 | 00:01:58
Today, Wondery announces a new weekly pop culture podcast, Lemme Say This, hosted by pop culture authorities, writers and real-life best friends, Peyton Dix and Hunter Harris. Lemme Say This debuts on Wondery+, YouTube, and everywhere you get your podcasts on May 22. Lemme Say This is a weekly conversation with two chronically online best friends about the pop culture news you didn’t realize you cared so much about. The show answers all your burning questions on culture and entertainment, from who wrote the best notes app apology, to who takes the crown of Hollywood’s most divorced man, and much more. This is a show for Eras Tour scholars and Love Island obsessives; and for those who want the gossip, Hunter and Peyton have already got the 10-page powerpoint handy. Hunter Harris is a writer and cultural critic living in Brooklyn. Her work has appeared in New York Magazine, the New York Times, and GQ, among other places. She’s reported on the set of Succession’s season three finale in Italy, profiled Zendaya, and crashed a party with Usher. Previously, she was a writer on HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, and before that, Vulture. She writes “Hung Up,” a newsletter about pop culture and entertainment. Peyton Dix is a Brooklyn-based, Los Angeles-raised consultant and writer. She's served as MAC Cosmetics's global social director, InStyle’s special projects editor, and PAPER’s head of social. She’s written for publications like ELLE, Bustle, W, and Teen Vogue. Friends for a decade, the shared trauma of a crappy Boston dorm room and the pitiful Brooklyn dating scene bonded the pair for life. Now, they’re certified haters and internet carnivores — and they’re ready to cut your faves straight to the white meat. Lemme Say This joins Wondery’s growing lineup of pop culture and comedy podcasts featuring sought-after voices and perspectives, including Scamfluencers with Scaachi Koul and Sarah Hagi, Diss and Tell with Matt Bellassai and Sydney Battle, Baby, this is Keke Palmer with Keke Palmer, The Big Flop with Misha Brown, Even the Rich and Even the Royals with Brooke Siffrinn and Aricia Skidmore-Williamsand, and more. | 🎙️DO I WANT KIDS? | 13 May 2024 | 00:06:13
I don't often ask myself this in public: do I want children? Additionally, Laura Henshaw, who co-hosted the hugely popular LiSTNR podcast KICPOD with Steph Claire Smith, is thinking about it. After raising the subject on a recent KICPOD episode to overwhelming support from people across the world, Laura has recorded a limited series podcast with people from all walks of life; from parenthood mentors to child-free advocates, career-driven professionals, stay-at-home mums, young and older parents, relationship experts, medical specialists and her own husband Dalton Henshaw, about this sensitive and incredibly personal decision. “I have never been inundated with more messages than after I spoke about the issue for the first time on the podcast. For women and people between the ages of 20 and 40, who don’t feel ‘born’ to be a mother or parent, there is so much shame around their decision and so many women feel alone in this feeling, when it is incredibly common,” said Laura. “The fear of losing ourselves, giving up a life we love, the impact children can have on our relationships, our inner selves, are all so very common. And if we do decide to have kids, is it even possible for us? Although parenthood is a choice, it’s not always guaranteed,” she said. Do I Want Kids? discusses the question in a safe and honest space and begins on LiSTNR TOMORROW Wednesday 15 May 2024 with episodes every Wednesday and Friday for seven episodes - listen to the trailer here “Across the world more women and couples are choosing not to have children, and that’s OK. In a pro-natal society, it still feels taboo to speak about the decision to have, or not to have, children,” said Laura. “I wanted to create a safe space in this mini-series to ask the questions we feel we can’t ask but are so important in shaping our decision. Having children is a very personal choice, one that isn’t guaranteed, and through this limited series I hope to give people going through this process some breathing space, and conversations, to bring the question into the open, because it’s one of the biggest decisions we will ever make,” she said. “Yes, this is a decision that is close to my heart right now. I have my own thoughts and reservations about having children and I wanted to create a platform for people like me to hear a wide range of different perspectives and feel less alone and better informed. I want to normalise this conversation. “Throughout the limited podcast series, with insights from experts and people’s real stories, we are able to really break through the misconception that having children is essential for a ‘successful’ life full of love and joy. Life can be beautiful both with and without children, and exploring this was incredibly freeing. I hope listeners are able to feel the same way.” Laura and Steph are two of Australia’s most successful entrepreneurs, authors and healthy living advocates and together have created one of the world's most holistic wellness empires, in Kic. The KICPOD launched five years ago and is one of Australia’s top 50 most listened to podcasts*. It’s a D&M with your besties on the stuff that matters. Listen to regular episodes of KICPOD here and the limited series Do I Want Kids? from tomorrow. New York Times Critic Wesley Morris Reflects on this Year’s Oscars and What the Nominees Reveal about our Culture and Politics on “The Amendment” Podcast From Wonder Media Network The newly launched news and politics podcast from The 19th News and Wonder Media Network is now hosted on Acast * New York Times Critic at Large Wesley Morris and award-winning journalist and host of “The Amendment” Errin Haines dive into how the Oscars are political. * In this conversation, they analyze what this year's winners and nominees reveal about this cultural and political moment we're living in. * Wesley and Errin look at the year's top films with a gender and racial lens. They find that many of these films center white women on a journey to find themselves and reveal truths about feminism. * Wesley and Errin poke holes in these narratives and ask us to interrogate what roles the characters of color are playing for the white leads. Some examples: * They joke about how different Anatomy of a Fall would have looked had it centered a Black woman * The only character in Poor Things who gives Emma Stone's character pleasure at no cost to anyone is a Black woman. * Wesley and Errin remind us how Black women are frequently only recognized on the awards stage for roles that serve white people. * Welsey and Errin also take a moment to highlight films and actors that weren't nominated that deserve recognition * “The Amendment” is a new podcast about gender, politics and power from The 19th News and Wonder Media Network, hosted on Acast.
