The Trial of Lord Lucan launches for a week-long podcast series that asks listeners to be the jury in one of the most elusive crimes in British history. In 1974, British aristocrat Richard John Bingham, otherwise known as Lord Lucan, became the prime suspect in the murder of his children’s nanny, Sandra Rivett. He vanished soon after the incident, sparking one of the most sensational manhunts in Britain and leaving justice undone. Until now. On the 50-year anniversary of his disappearance, this brand-new podcast is holding the trial that never was.  Hosted by journalists Caroline Cheetham and Stephen Wright, The Trial of Lord Lucan will bring together prosecutor, Max Hardy, and defence barrister, Edward Henry KC, to finally decide whether Lord Lucan was guilty or not guilty.  The hosts and legal minds will use exclusive, never-before-seen documents written by Det Chief Supt Roy Ranson, who headed the 1974 murder investigation and spent most of his career searching for the elusive Lucan. Every day from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th June, audiences will hear the trial unfold and discover new information never disclosed to the public before. Listeners will then their say in a live public vote, with the final verdict being announced the following week.

As a gay kid growing up Catholic, in conservative Texas, Jordan Gonsalves knew nothing about queer history. Now, as a journalist, he’s searching for the stories he craved when he was coming of age.

I don't often ask myself this in public: do I want children? Additionally, Laura Henshaw, who co-hosted the hugely popular LiSTNR podcast KICPOD with Steph Claire Smith, is thinking about it.

After raising the subject on a recent KICPOD episode to overwhelming support from people across the world, Laura has recorded a limited series podcast with people from all walks of life; from parenthood mentors to child-free advocates, career-driven professionals, stay-at-home mums, young and older parents, relationship experts, medical specialists and her own husband Dalton Henshaw, about this sensitive and incredibly personal decision.  

“I have never been inundated with more messages than after I spoke about the issue for the first time on the podcast. For women and people between the ages of 20 and 40, who don’t feel ‘born’ to be a mother or parent, there is so much shame around their decision and so many women feel alone in this feeling, when it is incredibly common,” said Laura.

“The fear of losing ourselves, giving up a life we love, the impact children can have on our relationships, our inner selves, are all so very common. And if we do decide to have kids, is it even possible for us? Although parenthood is a choice, it’s not always guaranteed,” she said.

“Across the world more women and couples are choosing not to have children, and that’s OK. In a pro-natal society, it still feels taboo to speak about the decision to have, or not to have, children,” said Laura.

“I wanted to create a safe space in this mini-series to ask the questions we feel we can’t ask but are so important in shaping our decision. Having children is a very personal choice, one that isn’t guaranteed, and through this limited series I hope to give people going through this process some breathing space, and conversations, to bring the question into the open, because it’s one of the biggest decisions we will ever make,” she said.

“Yes, this is a decision that is close to my heart right now. I have my own thoughts and reservations about having children and I wanted to create a platform for people like me to hear a wide range of different perspectives and feel less alone and better informed. I want to normalise this conversation.

“Throughout the limited podcast series, with insights from experts and people’s real stories, we are able to really break through the misconception that having children is essential for a ‘successful’ life full of love and joy. Life can be beautiful both with and without children, and exploring this was incredibly freeing. I hope listeners are able to feel the same way.”

Remarkable first-hand accounts of a global aviation tragedy which turned into one of the most complex policing missions of our time are revealed in a new AFP-led podcast launched today (Tuesday 16 July, 2024)

The AFP podcast ‘Search Among the Sunflowers: Looking for truth in the world’s biggest crime scene,’ tells the story of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 which was shot down over eastern Ukraine in 2014. The podcast reveals the impact the tragedy had on several Australian families and the Australian emergency response, including the AFP’s mission to bring the victims back to home soil.

On board the flight were 15 crew and 283 passengers, including 80 children. Among them were 38 passengers who called Australia home.

Every summer for the past seven decades, 50 high school seniors—one from every state—descend on Mobile, Alabama to take part in one of the country’s most lucrative scholarship competitions for teen girls.

"The Burden" was released today by iHeartPodcasts, the top podcast publisher according to Podtrac, and Orbit Media, the podcast company that Oscar winner Fisher Stevens co-founded. "The Burden," a follow-up to Orbit's original #1 podcast "Empire on Blood," transports listeners into a bizarre world of murder where unvoiced, convicted killers have to overthrow a legendary police officer and upend the entire system in order to be freed.The podcast's main character, the illustrious detective Louis Scarcella, will reveal his entire life narrative for the first time only in "The Burden." Scarcella was able to solve the most difficult cases, obtain confessions that no one else could, and imprison the worst offenders in the 1990s. He was a supercop, also known as The Hulk. The narrative then took a turn for the worse.
