Welcome to Tiger Therapy, where we delve into the mental and emotional side of what it takes to be successful, and specifically how to identify and get over the self doubt and limiting beliefs that hold so many people back and stop them realizing their full potential.

Each week, join Pippa Woodhead, as she speaks to a new guest who has achieved success on their own terms - perhaps they’ve gone against the grain in some way, shattered a ceiling, done something unexpected, or they’ve broken generational patterns. She’ll be asking them to share their experiences with limiting beliefs and times where self doubt got in the way.

Brought to you by Tigerhall.

“If You Don’t Have Self-Doubt, You’re Mindless” - Legendary Psychologist Dr. Ellen Langer

Saison 4 · Épisode 8

mercredi 24 juillet 2024Durée 49:56

Dr. Ellen Langer is a legend in the field of psychology.

And a legend at Harvard University.

She’s the longest-serving professor of psychology at Harvard. She was also the first woman to ever be tenured in psychology at the university. Her 40+ year career has earned her the nicknames “the mother of mindfulness” and “the mother of positive psychology.”

Until starting Tiger Therapy, I always thought self-doubt was an enemy to be vanquished. But Dr. Langer is another academic who has shared that self-doubt is important. In fact, she says, if you don’t feel self-doubt, you might be being mindless.

Research shows that most of us are mindless most of the time, but Dr. Langer believes that if we can work towards being more mindful it will help us tremendously in almost every facet of life. Her groundbreaking research has found that we can quite literally think ourselves younger, healthier and better - as well as totally changing our relationship with self-doubt.

(By the way - mindfulness is NOT to be mistaken for mediation.)

This episode is full of the most mind-blowing studies, experiments and stories that have the power to change how you think about how you think.

Thank you Dr. Langer for coming on Tiger Therapy!

---- Taking a short (baby related!) break ----

This is the last episode in Tiger Therapy Season 4.

There have been 34 episodes so far with absolutely brilliant guests - I can't thank them enough for sharing their wisdom and stories about times where self-doubt and limiting beliefs got in the way. And thank you so much to everyone who's been listening along.

I'm going on maternity leave, but Tiger Therapy will be back in early 2025. I can't wait!

Turning Public Failure Into Triumph - Olympic Gold Snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis

Saison 4 · Épisode 7

lundi 22 juillet 2024Durée 47:43

How do you think you’d handle it if you failed at the one thing you’re supposed to be best at, on live TV, with the whole world watching?

Lindsey Jacobellis is the most successful female snowboarder of all time.

She is a two-time Olympic Gold medalist, an Olympic Silver medalist, a 31x World Cup Gold Medalist and a 6x World Champion.

Despite so much success, something happened in her early career that’s followed her ever since - a split-second mistake made at her first ever Olympics when she was just 20 years old. This defining moment led to public ridicule, a media circus and even hate mail.

It’s something that (understandably) shook her confidence and left her full of self-doubt. She’s had to actively fight to not let it define her.

I’m so excited to have her on Tiger Therapy to share her story and share what she learned with you. Thank you Lindsey!

How to Have Confidence in Any Situation - Sara Jane Ho

Saison 3 · Épisode 6

mardi 21 mai 2024Durée 38:18

If you knew what to say and how to act in every scenario - how would this make a difference to how confident you feel?

If you knew you could always make a good first impression, would you doubt yourself less, would you feel braver to put yourself out there and try new things?

Today I’m speaking to someone who always knows!

Sara Jane Ho is the most famous etiquette expert I can think of. She’s the founder of China’s first finishing school - Institute Sarita - which was recognised as one of the "World's Most Innovative 50 Companies" by Fast Company Magazine.

She’s the host of the Netflix show Mind Your Manners - which was nominated for an Emmy. Her new book Mind You Manners: How to Be Your Best Self in Any Situation is out now.

She says “People think of etiquette as stuffy old manners, but actually, etiquette changes with the times. I really see etiquette as the upmost form of wellness, it’s a way to promote healthy individual growth.”

Thank you Sara Jane for sharing your advice about how etiquette can be used to feel confident in oneself, as well as making those around us feel comfortable.

Adapting to Change, the Antidote to Fear & the Real Blockbuster Story - James W. Keyes

Saison 3 · Épisode 5

mercredi 15 mai 2024Durée 53:31

“It's how we respond to change that separates winners from losers.”

Jim Keyes’ ability to adapt to change is what’s seen him through not one, but two Fortune 500 CEO tenures - the first at 7-Eleven, where he successfully restructured and led the company to be the behemoth it is today. The second, at Blockbuster, which… well…. we all think we know what happened here, right?

He’s now authored a book "Education is Freedom" where he delves into the power of building knowledge and lifelong learning, and how this serves us as individuals but also a society as a whole.

In this episode of Tiger Therapy, we cover:

  • Why the Blockbuster story we think we know isn’t what really happened
  • What growing up in poverty taught James about the power of mindset
  • The advice James would have given himself as a 20 year old
  • Jim’s trick for avoiding self-doubt and imposter syndrome
  • How knowledge is everything - and especially crucial in times of change, crisis and fear

Thank you SO MUCH Jim for coming on Tiger Therapy, I loved our conversation and resonate so much with what you say!

Self-Belief, Leadership and Life After ‘CEO’ - Rob Pierre

Saison 3 · Épisode 2

mercredi 24 avril 2024Durée 46:57

Until recently, Rob Pierre was CEO of Jellyfish, the major digital media agency he co-founded over 18 years ago - a role which made him one of the UK’s most successful media leaders. In 2021 he was voted Media Week's Media Leader of the Year to recognise his achievements.

Now, having stepped down, we reflect on life without the CEO title, leadership, confidence and his tool for avoiding self doubt.

If you’ve listened to Tiger Therapy before, you’ll know that at the end of each episode, I ask guests to nominate something they think is brilliant to come on the podcast. Joanna Flint, Chief Commercial Officer at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, suggested Rob. Here’s what she said about him:

“What I love about Rob is his storytelling, his authenticity and his belief. He’s a really interesting individual with a global perspective to talk about how to build an incredibly successful business through grit, determination, and being a really good man.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Thanks so much Rob for coming on Tiger Therapy - I loved our conversation!

How Mentally Strong People Manage Self-Doubt - Amy Morin

Saison 3 · Épisode 1

mercredi 17 avril 2024Durée 44:05

We're back for Season 3 of Tiger Therapy!!! I am beyond excited for the conversations and speakers we're bringing to you over the next few weeks.

______

How does a psychotherapist handle grief, anxiety and self doubt?

After a series of family tragedies, psychotherapist Amy Morin started studying what it is that makes someone mentally strong. She turned this research into blog post entitled ’13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do,’ which she expected only a handful of people would read.

Much to her surprise, it went viral (as in, 50 million people viral!)

This set Amy down the path of bestselling author and worldwide authority on mental strength. She's since sold over a million copies of her books, and they've been translated into 40 languages.

In this conversation Amy and I (naturally) discussed mental strength, and of course I wanted to get her expert psychotherapist take on self doubt, limiting beliefs, and her advice for all of us.

I found this conversation incredibly useful and Amy shared some brilliant tools to try - thank you so much Amy for coming on Tiger Therapy!

How to Be Confident - Nellie Wartoft

Saison 2 · Épisode 8

jeudi 4 avril 2024Durée 58:54

Welcome to the last episode of Tiger Therapy Season 2!! (We'll be back mid April with S3).

Have you ever made your boss cry?

I can now add this to my list of (questionable) accomplishments…

Here is a very special BONUS episode of Tiger Therapy - featuring Tigerhall CEO Nellie Wartoft!

In this conversation we cover -

  • Actionable steps for finding intrinsic self confidence;
  • Nellie’s analysis on what’s holding people back in life;
  • Why self doubt is so prevalent and can be so damaging - and what needs to change;
  • Nellie’s story of doing everything everyone told her NOT to do;
  • Why our education leads to toxic workplaces;
  • Being mistreated as a woman in tech (Nellie’s experience is not what you think)
  • Why too many CEO’s have the wrong priorities;
  • There’s also a brilliant pep talk from Nellie at the end, that I have a feeling I’ll be listening to on repeat;
  • …And a whole lot more!

Thanks so much Chief Tiger for letting me ask you all my nosy questions.

(Also, it’s usually me crying in front of you, so I’m glad to even out the scales a little.)

“What Does a Successful White Guy in Tech Know About Self Doubt?” - Richard Harshman

Saison 2 · Épisode 7

mercredi 28 février 2024Durée 37:11

A story about this episode - months ago, when I first explained the concept of Tiger Therapy to Tigerhall CEO Nellie Wartoft, almost the first thing out her mouth was “you have to speak to Rick Harshman.”

Originally from the US, Richard “Rick” Harshman has had a string of major leadership roles in tech across Asia Pacific and Japan. Most recently he was President and SVP at UiPath, prior to this, MD at Google Cloud and Head of ASEAN at Amazon Web Services (AWS).

What struck me about this, is I would never have picked someone with his profile for a conversation about self doubt. After all, surely a successful, white man in tech is the most confident breed of person on Earth? (Putting my hand up here to own my bias.)

Nellie knew something I didn’t - that Rick is incredibly reflective, self aware and has a very nuanced and considered attitude to self doubt.

We cover family, culture, burnout, imposter syndrome, leadership during Covid - and much more.

Thanks so much Rick for coming on Tiger Therapy. I loved our conversation!
