Then Is Now Ep. 137 - 13 Days of Hallowtober 2023 - Cursed (2005)
Épisode 137
mercredi 25 octobre 2023 • Durée 01:06:29
Day 7: On this episode of Then Is Now's 13 Days of Hallowtober event for 2023, our werewolf discussion continues with “Cursed” from 2005, directed by horror legend Wes Craven and starring Joshua Jackson, Christina Ricci, and Jesse Eisenberg. The film is kind of a mess and we dive into its troubled production, but also pull out the good things about it. Being from 2005, there were a scant few newspaper movie ads for it, so we posted two as well as a scathing review on the web page. Enjoy!

Then Is Now Episode 48 - Rebel Without a Cause
Épisode 48
jeudi 27 mai 2021 • Durée 01:44:00
Rebel Without a Cause (1955), starring the iconic and legendary James Dean, is a classic film that everyone MUST see! Lucas from Denmark returns to the show to help me break down this great piece of cinema. We had fun previously exploring American Graffiti, and once again we get a fresh perspective on James Dean's opus, not only because Lucas is from Denmark, but also because he's 19 and we like to get a young person's perspective on pop culture of the past.
This film not only continues to hold up, but it also resonates with young people in any era as James Dean's character, Jim, and his friend Judy, try to deal with the fact that their parents are just inept at true parenting! This is one of those films that we here at Then Is Now classify as one you SHOULD see!
We advise that you watch the film first, especially with a teenager, and then come back here to listen to our breakdown of the film. We'd like to know if it still is relatable to today's generation!

Then Is Now Episode 45 - Bill Oberst Jr
Épisode 45
vendredi 7 mai 2021 • Durée 59:47
Arriving this week on VOD and streaming services is the new Thriller called Painkiller, directed by Mark Savage and written by Tom Parnell and Mark Savage. It is a very timely tale about vigilante justice versus the creators and pushers of opiods.
In the past, we were always guaranteed a movie in any given year starring one of the great horror icons like Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and dozens of actors who were not afraid to say that they were horror actors. Our guest today is Bill Oberst Jr, the main star of Painkiller, and one among few in today's generation of performers that comfortably accepts the mantle of “Horror Actor” and thrives in his job!
While there aren't too many actors these days that would feel comfortable saying that they tend to stick to one genre for the most part, this man embraces the role and it is evident in all of his amazing, and numerous award-winning parts in film and television.
So sit back and listen to my interview with one of the coolest actors in Hollywood!

Then Is Now Episode 44 - 2021 April Ghouls Drive-In Monster Rama
Épisode 44
samedi 1 mai 2021 • Durée 01:11:15
We've discussed Drive-In Theaters in the past, and while many indoor movie theaters have closed down because of Covid-19, the outdoor Drive-In Theater has not only thrived, but is experiencing a resurgence!
This past weekend my wife and I had the good fortune to be able to attend the 2021 April Ghouls Drive-In Monster Rama at the Riverside Drive-In in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. It was 80s weekend and they played four horror movies all night on Friday and four more on Saturday. There were vendors and a special guest appearance!
I got some great interviews and you'll hear those in this episode, as well as trailers for the films, and give you a little discussion about them. And there were some other fun things that we got to check out and some things that we didn't have time for, that I'll tell you all about!! This episode also ties in with Then Is Now Blog #51, so check it out!

Then Is Now Episode 43 - Burt Ward
Épisode 43
samedi 17 avril 2021 • Durée 01:54:01
As we've discussed on the show, comic books and superheroes are a part of our pop culture that have never disappeared from our collective zeitgeist. Batman first appeared in 1939 in Detective Comics, and continues to be hugely popular 81 years later.
On January 12th, 1966, the ABC network premiered a TV series that would not only catapult the character of Batman into the mainstream Pop Culture, but also create living legends out of its two stars, Adam West and Burt Ward.
Today, we've got a special guest on our show that is one of those living legends, Burt Ward! He's not going to just discuss the Batman TV series, but also his amazing career and causes that he works for. If you've never seen the Batman show, I highly recommend that you do immediately!! And please, share this show with younger people, especially kids, who will thoroughly enjoy it, as will you!

Then Is Now Episode 42 - Ron Marz
Épisode 42
jeudi 8 avril 2021 • Durée 01:42:10
As many listeners already know, we strive on this show to present cool pop culture of the past to a new generation who may have missed out on those things. Comic books have been around for about 90 years, and are still going strong. Most modern audiences are familiar with the Marvel and DC movies that have been popular for the last decade, as well as the various superhero shows on TV and on streaming services. Comic books are one thing that have never left the zeitgeist, and remain a large part of our Pop Culture.
On our show today, we have Comic Book writer extraordinaire, Ron Marz, who has put his indelible stamp on nearly every Marvel and DC character, as well as Witchblade and tons of other independent comics! Podcaster Justin Cooper joins me and we have a fantastic conversation with this prolific writer!
