He's definitely a strong candidate given his ties to a certain secretive faction, and Aedyran nationality. But I suppose only time will tell.

What makes this expanse of ocean, Ondra's Mortar, special is the incredibly destructive and impenetrable nature of the storms that reside over it; as well as the set of active volcanoes along it's border.

For those experienced in the fantasy RPG genre, a paladin is a familiar character class for us. For those uninitiated, they're usually the highly charismatic and heavily armoured holy warrior/knight character in games. The fascinating thing about Paladins in their history/origin, because as you can imagine, if you have a dedicated group of people who are zealous for a cause/king/creator that have continued existing for decades (if not centuries); then you can be fairly certain they have an interesting story behind them.

Boy howdy is this episode a long one. But hey, there was ALOT to go over. If you're new this show, World of Eora, is about Pillars of Eternity & Avowed (since they both share the same fantasy world). Mostly I focus on lore, today I'm putting a balanced focus on news and lore.

As AVOWED continues to undergo development at Obsidian Entertainment I wondered "what will the character creation choices be" and then I thought after that: "hey, that's a good episode idea", so here we are.

In most fantasy games you'll have an in-depth character creation menu, and Pillars of Eternity is no different. Today's episode (sorry it's a couple days later than normal) dives into the lore of one of the racial selections available in PoE: GODLIKE.

Hopefully the Godlike are available as a race selection for Avowed, as they are not only fascinating people, existentially; but they also look badass, which is always a plus.

Now that that's out of the way, what is today's episode about?

WOEDICA, is one of the eleven deities of Eora, and she plays a critical role (more SEO for you) in the first and second Pillars of Eternity games. AS WELL, her presence is indicated throughout the Avowed Reveal Trailer that Obisidan released waaaaay back in the summer of last year. So *likely* we will be seeing Woedica, or factions that serve Woedica, in Avowed's narrative. So, that being said, the more we know about Woedica and her followers, the more we can speculate on Avowed's story/setting.

Want some evidence of this? At the end of Avowed's reveal trailer we see a sword; on that sword are Aedyran runes which spell out the word "Oathbinder", which is one of the many names attributed to the goddess of justice, herself: Woedica.

In today's episode, we take another look at the man, the myth, the legend: Admeth Hadret, and how his actions led to the Dyrwood's eventual independence from it's mother-nation: The Aedyr Empire. The Dyrwood is the setting for Pillars of Eternity, and *speculatively* the potential setting for Avowed (question mark). I do a little tin-foil hat theory at the end of the episode, check it out.

As we continue our read-through of the Dyrwood's history (the setting for Pillars of Eternity), we introduce an event known as the 'War of Black Trees'. Which, more importantly, introduced Edrang's son, Admeth, into the narrative. Interestingly enough, it has been *speculated* that Avowed maaaaaaay take place around the time of the War of Black Trees, or that the giant statue we see in the reveal trailer maaaaaaay be Admeth Hadret. Who knows?

With a personally busy week and weekend combined with the MASSIVE amount of stuff we saw for Avowed this week, I simply cannot keep up with all of it (I haven't even seen all the videos all the way through or read/skimmed all the articles yet). So, I'm making the decision to post-pone a full episode until next week to do an overview of it all.

That said, I caught ONE thing amongst all the news that caught my attention. A weapon in Avowed called "Drawn in Winter" shares a similar naming scheme to a Pillars of Eternity dagger called "Drawn In Spring"; the funny thing is... the lore written in Drawn in Spring's item description has something to do with the Living Lands... mayhaps it describes something we could find in Avowed?

In an effort to encourage old and new players of Pillars of Eternity, let's stop and take a look at the history of the setting for the original game that launched this series back in 2015 - the Dyrwood. This episode is the first (of three) that explores the historical foundations for the setting called 'the Dyrwood', which will hopefully add depth to your experience in playing Pillars of Eternity. In this episode, we cover the colonial campaigns of the Aedyran Empire in the Eastern Reach (the region of the "new world" continent that the Dyrwood is found in). As well, we take a good look at the first major conflict between the Aedyran settlers and the Dyrwoodan natives (the Glanfathans) - the Broken Stone War. Sorry for the convoluted episode title, but it gets the point across. WELCOME! To part two of two discussing the lore behind ABYDON, god of the Forge (and so much more). If you haven't listened to the previous episode I highly recommend it, for two reasons: (1) it'll give a good foundation for understanding some of this episode; and (2) because it raises my listen-count, but the former reason is the most important... *wink*

Warning, there are some spoilers for the WHITE MARCH DLC for Pillars of Eternity in this episode. Abydon is one of my favorite deities; he's a god whom this podcast would possibly be a work of worship towards - not because I worship Abydon, no. Even though this podcast is not something physical, like a sword, I imagine the work behind it would honor him regardless.

Also known as the Twinned God, Berath is one of the major players in the pantheon of Eora (the fantasy world of Pillars of Eternity / Avowed). I mean, *all* the gods are major players in the pantheon, but Berath is one of the deities your Pillars player character will interact with more. As well, fresh on the heels of Ep. 4/5/6 when we looked at the Aedyran Empire, Berath is one of the patron deities of that society...in fact, 'Berath' is the Aedyran name for that god over death, cycles, doorways, portals, and inevitability. I'm getting sidetracked...

Join me in today's episode as we dive into the first of a two-part (maybe?) look at this iconic deity. Given Berath's presence in Eora, we will likely see signs of the god in Avowed, because we most certainly do in Pillars of Eternity (especially in PoE2: Deadfire).

Using information from Pillars of Eternity I (and a little bit of II) let's take a look at the gods of Eora in general. This episode goes over the nature, history and names/domains of the gods. Aedyr is an empire referenced multiple times (subtlety) in Avowed's reveal trailer. In Ep. 4 we looked at their empire's origin, in Ep. 5 we took a look at their culture. In this episode we conclude our dive into Aedyr by looking at their colonization efforts in the Dyrwood (the setting for Pillars of Eternity). Perhaps now your Aedyr character background will have a little more meaning for you.

In the previous episode, we took a look at the origins of the Aedyr Empire (the nation heavily referenced through Avowed's reveal trailer). Before we continue on into the history of Aedyr's colonization efforts, let's take a step back and see what the average Aedyran is like. In this episode we go over some unique Aedyran holidays, take a look at the Aedyran language, and analyze the Aedyran value system.

This week, I focus on Dyrwood related tomes (Dyrwood being the setting for Pillars 1), which results in a shorter episode (which I do on purpose, just getting back into the swing of things post-vacation). We learn about the very first Hollowborn (and what it is) as well as the inciting events that founded the nation of Readceras.

This week's episode focuses on Inquisitor Lödwyn, and the paladin order she helps lead, the Steel Garotte. Most of the lore will be about the Paladin order, but we tie it back to the Inquisitor. This lore is also associated to the goddess of Law, Woedica; and the empire of Aedyr. All of which is discussed (a bit) and speculated upon for Avowed. For instance...why did Obsidian choose The Steel Garrote over all the other potential factions? Did they need a Woedican faction? And Aedyran-origin faction? Who knows...
