| Ep. #119: Aloth Corfiser | 25 Nov 2024 | 00:50:45 | |
Spoilers for Aloth's companion quests in both Pillars games, but NO major narrative spoilers for the crit path of either games. The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week we look at Aloth, a companion from both Pillars of Eternity games, and fan-favourite within the series. Our resident Wizard from the Aedyr empire, this episode talks about his background and what paths he can takes throughout the story of the Pillars games. Will Aloth make an appearance in Avowed? He's definitely a strong candidate given his ties to a certain secretive faction, and Aedyran nationality. But I suppose only time will tell. consider leaving a rating/review/comment
| Ep. #118: Neketaka | 18 Nov 2024 | 01:09:11 | |
NO SPOILERS :) The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode discusses the major city settlement in the second Pillars game (Deadfire), "Neketaka". We look at the city overall, with some of its history and culture, before doing a brief dive into each of the city districts. Finally, we top the episode off with a look at some ancient ruins beneath the city and what that might imply for the Huana peoples living in the region. worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora ko-fi.com/worldofeora
| Ep. #109: Edér Teylecg | 15 Sep 2024 | 01:09:22 | |
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode is about the beloved companion from both Pillars of Eternity games: "Edér Teylecg". We discuss his story from before we meet him in Pillars 1, and follow his narrative right up until the end of Deadfire. Spoilers pertaining to his side quests are in this episode, however they are well telegraphed if you want to listen to some of the episode spoiler-free. worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora ko-fi.com/worldofeora
| Ep. #33: The Goddess, Ondra | 30 May 2022 | 00:40:16 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about EORA, a uniquely made fantasy world, developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their Pillars of Eternity games, as well as their in-development release: AVOWED. Today's episode we return to the Eoran pantheon to take a look at the goddess of forgetfulness, Ondra (or, "Ngati", depending on who you ask). We go over her attributes, her domains, her priesthood, and cap off the episode asking the question 'will we see Ondra, or her devoted, in Avowed?'. email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora
| Ep. #32: Xaurips in Pillars of Eternity & Avowed | 09 May 2022 | 00:19:10 | |
DISCLAIMER: This episode was originally intended to be finished for *next* week, but since I finished it early, I decided to put it out now. I say this because I didn't wish you Moms out there a Happy Mother's Day in the show. So here it is now: HAPPY MOTHER's DAY!!! :) --- The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's games Pillars of Eternity I & II, as well as their upcoming release: Avowed. Not wanting to forgo releasing another lore episode weeks from now, I opted to do a shorter episode on a specific creature that I think we are likely to see in Avowed, regardless of both location and time (in history) in the fantasy setting of Eora. I thank you all for your patience with me as I adjust to being a new dad, and it is a nearly major victory that even these little episodes could be put out at all. Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement :) @worldofeora
| Ep. #31: Taking a look at the Deadfire Archipelago | 23 Apr 2022 | 00:35:46 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's original fantasy setting, EORA, used in Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, as well as their upcoming release: AVOWED. Today's episode comes nearly a week late (sorry, #NewDad), but in it we take a look at the introduction to the Deadfire Archipelago (the setting for Pillars II) as read in the official Guidebook for the game. We learn about the importance of Luminous Adra, we overview the geography of the region; as well we stop to read about some metal_AF creatures that exist in the LORE (but not necessarily the game). I wonder what, if anything, from the Deadfire will be carried over into Avowed? worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora
| Ep/ #30: Dragons in Eora | 04 Apr 2022 | 00:23:41 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's fantasy world, Eora, as experienced in their cRPG games, Pillars of Eternity I & II; as well as their upcoming release: AVOWED. Classic to nearly all fantasy settings are Dragons. Sometimes these creatures are enigmatic and inherently magical creatures; other times they are mindless territorial fire-breathing beasts. Eora, I think, strikes a nice balance of epic and mundane in their character design for dragons in Eora. @worldofeora
| Ep. #29: Maegfolc [Please read description] | 07 Mar 2022 | 00:40:04 | |
THE WORLD OF EORA is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world, called Eora, used in the Obsidian Entertainment games: Pillars of Eternity I & II, and AVOWED. SPOILER WARNING: This episode contains spoilers for the White March DLC for Pillars of Eternity from !!! From ~16:30 to 26:30; I do say on the podcast when the spoilers are, and how far to skip ahead to avoid them. This episode is still coherent, even if you do skip the spoiler part, so feel free to join in! Today's episode discusses a special kind of creature in the world called Maegfolc ("mage-folk"); these creatures are not like any other mundane creature, but have divine origins & purposes; as well as mystery/intrigue to their very existential nature. We have sufficient reason to think that Maegfolc creatures will be present in Avowed (more on that in the episode)! So, let's get hyped, and geek out about a fantasy world we can all love! @worldofeora @gingereno42 worldofeora@gmail.com gingereno42@gmail.com
| Ep. #28: Ondra's Mortar [Pillars II Spoilers Contained Within!!!] | 21 Feb 2022 | 00:42:24 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the Pillars of Eternity games, as well as Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming release, AVOWED. "Eora" is the name of the fantasy world (made by Obsidian) for the Pillars of Eternity games, as well as Avowed. This podcast explores the lore of that world. Today's episode, we discuss a natural oceanic phenomenon known as "Ondra's Mortar" which is an expanse of ocean just north of the Deadfire Archipelago (a region in the world of Eora). What makes this expanse of ocean, Ondra's Mortar, special is the incredibly destructive and impenetrable nature of the storms that reside over it; as well as the set of active volcanoes along it's border. Join me today as we discuss Ondra's Mortar. | Ep. #26: Paladin lore & class Overview | 24 Jan 2022 | 00:31:27
"The World of Eora" is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's 'Pillars of Eternity' games, as well as their upcoming release: Avowed. As part of a continuing and sporadic series I am doing focusing on looking at the lore related to character creation from Pillars of Eternity, we are looking (today) at one of the Class choices we have in the game: Paladins. For those experienced in the fantasy RPG genre, a paladin is a familiar character class for us. For those uninitiated, they're usually the highly charismatic and heavily armoured holy warrior/knight character in games. The fascinating thing about Paladins in their history/origin, because as you can imagine, if you have a dedicated group of people who are zealous for a cause/king/creator that have continued existing for decades (if not centuries); then you can be fairly certain they have an interesting story behind them. and the World of Eora is no different. Join me today as we overview the main Paladin oaths/orders in Obsidian's original fantasy setting: Eora. @worldofeora @gingereno42
| Ep. #25: Magic in Eora | 10 Jan 2022 | 00:26:39 | |
THE WORLD OF EORA is a news & lore podcast about Pillars of Eternity, and Obisidan Entertainment's upcoming release: AVOWED. In today's episode, we dive into how magic works in the world of Eora, so that we can better understand (a) the mechanics of this world, and (b) how spellcasting classes actually cast spells. This will be especially helpful when we get to talking about some of the classes in Obsidian's fantasy RPG. Contact: worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora
| Ep. #24: Rymrgand, god of Entropy | 26 Dec 2021 | 00:43:22 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obisidian Entertainment's fantasy world, EORA, as experienced in the Pillars of Eternity games, *and* in their upcoming Xbox/PC exclusive release, AVOWED. Today's episode focuses on the Beast of Winter, aka: Rymrgand (ree-myr-gahnd). Seeing as how winter is in full swing for many of us, it seemed a fitting episode to do. I would have done a Christmas episode, but there is no Christmas in Eora (there is, however, a "Winter's End" holiday; but that more akin to a New Years holiday). ANYWAYS! There is a lot of good, deep lore when looking at Rymrgand. [[[WARNING]]] There *is* spoilers in this episode, BUT I do give you a heads up when they occur. Lemme know your thoughts on today's episode, or just reach out for a pleasant, nerd-based, conversation: email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora
| Ep. #108: All The Recent Avowed Content (Gamescom, Demo, and News Articles) | 31 Aug 2024 | 01:55:15 | |
Boy howdy is this episode a long one. But hey, there was ALOT to go over. If you're new this show, World of Eora, is about Pillars of Eternity & Avowed (since they both share the same fantasy world). Mostly I focus on lore, today I'm putting a balanced focus on news and lore. Now, here's the thing (and I say this at the start of the episode) - because this episode is uncharacteristically long, I'm not going to have another episode up next week. Simply so that those of you who budget their podcast time can catch up. As well, though, it's a good time for me to take a week of with my family. I've been considering taking the week of a stat holiday off of recording anyways, so this is a good chance to try that. Anyways, so, listen to this as fast or as slow as you want, there isn't an episode next week. Hope y'all enjoy!
| Ep. #23: Overview of Eora's Political Superpowers (both ancient and modern) | 13 Dec 2021 | 00:34:28 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast exploring the fantasy world for Pillars of Eternity I & II; as well as Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming release: Avowed. Today's episode focuses on exploring the main nations that exist in Eora, both "today" and in ancient history past. This episode helps to give context to those who find themselves lost amidst all the different nations and proper names I mention throughout other episodes. email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora
| Ep. #22: The Elves of Eora (Sceltrfolc & Glamfellen) | 29 Nov 2021 | 00:54:13 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast for the Pillars of Eternity video games, as well as the upcoming game release, Avowed. All of which are developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Pillars of Eternity (I & II) is an isometric dark fantasy RPG set in the fantasy world of Eora; Avowed is (speculatively) a first-person open-world ARPG set in the same world. In preparation for Avowed's release, this podcast aims to bring everyone up to date on the canon lore of the world of Eora, as well as geek out about a fantasy world many of us love. Today's episode is on the Elves of Eora. In Pillars, and likely Avowed, we get to interact with a character customization tool to sculpt the person we play through the games' narratives in. While we don't know what options will be available in Avowed, we can look to Pillars of Eternity to see what might be available. This way, when the game releases, we might better know what kind of character we want to build - getting you into the game's story and mechanics even faster ;) Hope you enjoy! email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora
| Ep. #21: the Godlike (Avowed / Pillars of Eternity Character Creation Lore) | 17 Nov 2021 | 00:43:51 | |
As AVOWED continues to undergo development at Obsidian Entertainment I wondered "what will the character creation choices be" and then I thought after that: "hey, that's a good episode idea", so here we are. In most fantasy games you'll have an in-depth character creation menu, and Pillars of Eternity is no different. Today's episode (sorry it's a couple days later than normal) dives into the lore of one of the racial selections available in PoE: GODLIKE. Hopefully the Godlike are available as a race selection for Avowed, as they are not only fascinating people, existentially; but they also look badass, which is always a plus. email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora
| Ep. #20: Woedica, goddess of Justice & Law | 31 Oct 2021 | 00:46:18 | |
My friend told me I need to be more SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friendly. So here goes: AVOWED AVOWED AVOWED OBSIDIAN PILLARS OF ETERNITY LORE PODCAST WOEDICA AVOWED EORA JOSH SAWYER AVOWED EORA OATHBINDER. There. [LOL] //fyi: while it likely will help with SEO, I was mostly doing it just to be humourous... --- Now that that's out of the way, what is today's episode about? WOEDICA, is one of the eleven deities of Eora, and she plays a critical role (more SEO for you) in the first and second Pillars of Eternity games. AS WELL, her presence is indicated throughout the Avowed Reveal Trailer that Obisidan released waaaaay back in the summer of last year. So *likely* we will be seeing Woedica, or factions that serve Woedica, in Avowed's narrative. So, that being said, the more we know about Woedica and her followers, the more we can speculate on Avowed's story/setting. Want some evidence of this? At the end of Avowed's reveal trailer we see a sword; on that sword are Aedyran runes which spell out the word "Oathbinder", which is one of the many names attributed to the goddess of justice, herself: Woedica. Hope you enjoy today's episode! Some podcast updates at the end of the episode as well. Hey, this episode releases on Halloween...maybe I should've done something gimmicky for that...oh well. Enjoy this Eoran lore episode while trick-or-treatin' (if you're even allowed to in your area, that is). Contact me: worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora
| Ep. #19.5: [NEWS] Jez Corden's Exclusive windowscentral.com Avowed Article | 20 Oct 2021 | 00:27:42 | |
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the Pillars of Eternity games, as well as Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG release, Avowed. We aim to explore the fantasy world for these games, Eora. This episode is solely a news episode! There's been a lot of buzz in Pillars and Avowed circles lately regarding the windowscentral.com article Jez Corden wrote. In this episode we do an overview of it to see what's a-happenin'. the article: Details on Xbox exclusive Avowed: The Outer Worlds meets medieval fantasy | Windows Central email me: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora
| Ep. #19: The Free Palatinate of Dyrwood | 18 Oct 2021 | 00:35:51 | |
The World of Eora is a lore (and sometimes news) podcast about Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and Obisidian Entertainment's upcoming release: Avowed. All three of these games use Eora as the fantasy world they are played in. This podcast explores that world. Today we finally reach the end of our series exploring "Dyrwood", which is the setting for the first Pillars of Eternity game. There also is precedent/speculation that Avowed *could* be set in Dyrwood. Nothing definitive of course, and I know the consensus amongst many is that the game is set in the Living Lands **but** this is all still rumour, so who knows. Today's episode wraps up the Dyrwood by looking at the people, their society, the major faiths practiced, and their cultural values. After these past five episodes you can enter into the first Pillars game with a firm foundation of the game's setting. email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora website: anchor.fm/worldofeora
| Ep. #18: (history of) the Dyrwood, Pt. V & Pt. VI (Conclusion) --- Avowed / Pillars of Eternity Lore | 04 Oct 2021 | 00:38:38 | |
In today's episode we CONCLUDE our history series on 'The Dyrwood', which is the setting for the first Pillars of Eternity game (and *possibly* the setting for Avowed? See previous episodes for rationale on that speculation...); For those just joining, we are reading from a set of in-game books, a six-part series for the Dyrwood's history. Today we look at Pt. V ("The Proliferation of Animancy") and Pt. VI (The Saint's War and Waidwen's Legacy). If you've listened to all four of my Dyrwoodan history episodes then you have a robust understanding for the context of the first Pillars of Eternity game. As well I do some shout-outs at the end of the episode :) email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora website: anchor.fm/worldofeora
| Ep. #17: Animancy --- (Avowed / Pillars of Eternity Lore) | 20 Sep 2021 | 00:38:27 | |
['The World of Eora' is a lore (and soon-to-be news) show about Obsidian Entertainment's fantasy setting: EORA, which is used for their games Pillars of Eternity (I and II), as well as their upcoming game: Avowed] First of all, please excuse the (at least initial) monotony in my voice. Ironically, I was practicing this episode while at work and unintentionally made my voice a little hoarse. Don't worry, it's not painful to listen to, just something I wanted to put forward as a disclaimer. Today's episode, we take a side-step from our review of the Dyrwood's History (Dyrwood being the setting for Pillars of Eternity) to give context for something important: ANIMANCY. This is a big one, and requested by many-a-folk (little PoE joke there). Animancy is a big part of what makes Eora the setting that it is, so expect for it to be in Avowed (for those listening just for Avowed). email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora website: anchor.fm/worldoeora
| Ep. #16: the Dyrwood, Pt. IV - Hadret's Rebellion | 05 Sep 2021 | 00:21:33 | |
In today's episode, we take another look at the man, the myth, the legend: Admeth Hadret, and how his actions led to the Dyrwood's eventual independence from it's mother-nation: The Aedyr Empire. The Dyrwood is the setting for Pillars of Eternity, and *speculatively* the potential setting for Avowed (question mark). I do a little tin-foil hat theory at the end of the episode, check it out.
| |||
| Ep. #15: the Dyrwood, Pt. III - Introducing: Admeth Hadret (and the War of Black Trees) | 05 Sep 2021 | 00:23:51 | |
As we continue our read-through of the Dyrwood's history (the setting for Pillars of Eternity), we introduce an event known as the 'War of Black Trees'. Which, more importantly, introduced Edrang's son, Admeth, into the narrative. Interestingly enough, it has been *speculated* that Avowed maaaaaaay take place around the time of the War of Black Trees, or that the giant statue we see in the reveal trailer maaaaaaay be Admeth Hadret. Who knows?

| "Drawn In Winter" Caught my eye... | 26 Aug 2024 | 00:08:25 | |
Hi Everyone, With a personally busy week and weekend combined with the MASSIVE amount of stuff we saw for Avowed this week, I simply cannot keep up with all of it (I haven't even seen all the videos all the way through or read/skimmed all the articles yet). So, I'm making the decision to post-pone a full episode until next week to do an overview of it all. That said, I caught ONE thing amongst all the news that caught my attention. A weapon in Avowed called "Drawn in Winter" shares a similar naming scheme to a Pillars of Eternity dagger called "Drawn In Spring"; the funny thing is... the lore written in Drawn in Spring's item description has something to do with the Living Lands... mayhaps it describes something we could find in Avowed?
| Ep. #14: the Dyrwood, Pt. I + II | 05 Sep 2021 | 00:25:37 | |
In an effort to encourage old and new players of Pillars of Eternity, let's stop and take a look at the history of the setting for the original game that launched this series back in 2015 - the Dyrwood. This episode is the first (of three) that explores the historical foundations for the setting called 'the Dyrwood', which will hopefully add depth to your experience in playing Pillars of Eternity.
In this episode, we cover the colonial campaigns of the Aedyran Empire in the Eastern Reach (the region of the "new world" continent that the Dyrwood is found in). As well, we take a good look at the first major conflict between the Aedyran settlers and the Dyrwoodan natives (the Glanfathans) - the Broken Stone War.
This episode is, happily, spoiler free :)
Regarding Avowed, there is some speculation that the game *may* be set in the Dyrwood region, so this isn't just an episode for Pillars fans, you Avowed onlookers come join in too!

| Ep. #13.5: The Podcast is BACK! - Lore Tidbit: BIAWACs | 05 Sep 2021 | 00:12:40 | |
Hey everyone! I am back (or those who didn't know, I was gone over the summer), and being back I am also returning to making episodes for the Pillars of Eternity / Avowed lore show: "The World of Eora". But you already knew that, that's why you're here. Anyways! This mini-episode just serves as a quick update for what's going on and moving forward. AS WELL, I can't do an episode without *some* sort of lore dump. So we do a quick little chat about "Biawacs", otherwise known as Spirit Winds. That sounds all nice and new-age-y...but trust me you do NOT want to run into one of these IRL.
Anyways, uh, please forgive some of the echo in the recording and the rushed nature of it. I wanted to get this episode out BEFORE my other three episodes (which will have released simultaneously to this one) shipped out via Anchor.fm

| Ep. #13: Hylea, goddess of the Sky | 14 Jun 2021 | 00:37:32 | |
Hylea, the Sky-Mother, deity over birds and... maternity?? Okay then, weird combo, what's up with that? Learn the answer to this and more in today's *lovely* episode about Hylea, goddess of creativity. Stay tuned to the end to hear about Hylea's hilarious wrath, which I hope gets added into Avowed. | Ep. #12: Abydon, Pt. II, as is written in the Pillars of Eternity Collector's Book... | 31 May 2021 | 00:20:20
Sorry for the convoluted episode title, but it gets the point across. WELCOME! To part two of two discussing the lore behind ABYDON, god of the Forge (and so much more). If you haven't listened to the previous episode I highly recommend it, for two reasons: (1) it'll give a good foundation for understanding some of this episode; and (2) because it raises my listen-count, but the former reason is the most important... *wink* In today's episode, let's bust open the Pillars of Eternity Collector's book and see what the writers at Obsidian wrote for the deity of Abydon. Warning, there are some spoilers for the WHITE MARCH DLC for Pillars of Eternity in this episode. However, as a note, I do point out *when* those spoilers are going to occur (whisper: it's closer to the end of the episode). Also, tune in post-outro for a special "audiobook" of an in-game tome...
| Ep. #11: The Scripture of Abydon, god of the Forge | 17 May 2021 | 00:27:59 | |
Abydon is one of my favorite deities; he's a god whom this podcast would possibly be a work of worship towards - not because I worship Abydon, no. I mean, symbolically...Work is a pleasure to Abydon, and he encourages Kith to enjoy their work and to produce good work. Even though this podcast is not something physical, like a sword, I imagine the work behind it would honor him regardless. Join me in today's episode as we take a look at Abydon's "scripture": DAILY AFFIRMATIONS OF FOCUS AND EFFICIENCY (Daofae, for short). Quite the mouthful. Initially, I was going to do all of Abydon in one episode, but after getting through just this one piece of lore, I thought better of it. | Ep. #10: The Wheel (Adra, the Soul, and Animancy) | 03 May 2021 | 00:22:57
Since we've been discussing BERATH so much in the last couple episodes it seemed fitting to discuss The Wheel, the cycle of reincarnation of Eora that is heavily associated with Berath. More importantly, it reviews some info about the Soul and Adra that we've touched on before and lays a solid introduction for ANIMANCY, an important aspect of what makes Eora the fantasy world it is. This episode *does* contain one minor spoiler and one major spoiler *BUT* I give you a warning as to when the spoilers occur *and* how far ahead to skip/mute so you can both listen to this episode and have it spoiler free :) whoever said you couldn't have your cake and eat it too... Want to get a hold of me for a comment/question/criticism/shout-out (etc.) ?? Email: worldofeora@gmail.com Twitter: @worldofeora Note: this episode is part of the summer series of episodes where I am living remotely, and may not reply as quickly as I'd like to. I still look forward to chatting with anyone, I just might be busy in a service/data free zone for a time :)
| Ep. #9.5: Podcast PSA & A Lore-Bite! | 26 Apr 2021 | 00:12:03 | |
Today, in what could be called...the last "Godandag" (God's Day) in "Majprima" (Mid-Spring), I offer you a quick PSA regarding the future of the podcast. As well, because I don't want to leave you without *some* lore, we go over the calendar year and days of the week for contemporary Eora (contemporary meaning "Pillars of Eternity" times). Actually, though, knowing the Eoran calendar *could* help us determine when Avowed is taking place in history, *if* any future leaks/reveals happen to show us a calendar... do you think they have sexy orlan pin-up calendars? I hope not...or maybe I do? Oh boy, I need to go wrestle with that potential emotional revelation... anyways, ENJOY! twitter: @worldofeora email: worldofeora@gmail.com Hey! After you listen to the episode, send me a message... When is your birthday? *BUT* approximate it to the Eoran calendar... mine would likely be... a Conyngsdag in Tarprima (so, fairly close).
| Ep. #9: Berath, Pt. II | 19 Apr 2021 | 00:21:06 | |
So I didn't quite get to *all* of the Berath-related lore in the last episode and in this one I hope to fill in a bunch of those gaps. Like last episode, most of it should be spoiler-free, and any spoilers that may pop up I give a warning so you can skip/mute. Today's episode is much more focused on Berath's personality, as well as her clergy. This is where the rubber meets the road, as it were. Want to reach me for comment/question/criticism/shout-out (etc.)? Email: worldofeora@gmail.com Twitter: @worldofeora
| Ep. #8: Berath, Goddess of Death, Pt. I | 04 Apr 2021 | 00:24:40 | |
Also known as the Twinned God, Berath is one of the major players in the pantheon of Eora (the fantasy world of Pillars of Eternity / Avowed). I mean, *all* the gods are major players in the pantheon, but Berath is one of the deities your Pillars player character will interact with more. As well, fresh on the heels of Ep. 4/5/6 when we looked at the Aedyran Empire, Berath is one of the patron deities of that society...in fact, 'Berath' is the Aedyran name for that god over death, cycles, doorways, portals, and inevitability. I'm getting sidetracked... Join me in today's episode as we dive into the first of a two-part (maybe?) look at this iconic deity. Given Berath's presence in Eora, we will likely see signs of the god in Avowed, because we most certainly do in Pillars of Eternity (especially in PoE2: Deadfire). Email: worldofeora@gmail.com Twitter @worldofeora
| Ep. #7: The Gods of Eora, Overview [SPOILER HEAVY] | 21 Mar 2021 | 00:24:13 | |
Almost all epic fantasy stories have a unique pantheon of deities as part of their lore. Eora is no different. Using information from Pillars of Eternity I (and a little bit of II) let's take a look at the gods of Eora in general. This episode goes over the nature, history and names/domains of the gods. This episode contains MAJOR spoilers for Pillars of Eternity. Unfortunately there is no way to discuss the gods of Eora without getting into some of the important narratives from the Pillars games, and we can't not discuss the gods. Future episodes featuring deities will be as spoiler free as possible so everyone can partake.

| Ep. #107: The Penitential Regency of Readceras | 18 Aug 2024 | 00:43:10 | |
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode is about a rather important nation in the "new world", called READCERAS. Originally the colony of Aedyr, and then the Divine Kingdom of Readceras, this nation has it's own interesting origins/history that leads to one of the most important events in recent history (in relation to Pillars 1): The Saint's War.
| Ep. #6: History of Aedyr, Pt. II (Expanding Borders) | 08 Mar 2021 | 00:16:15 | |
Aedyr is an empire referenced multiple times (subtlety) in Avowed's reveal trailer. In Ep. 4 we looked at their empire's origin, in Ep. 5 we took a look at their culture. In this episode we conclude our dive into Aedyr by looking at their colonization efforts in the Dyrwood (the setting for Pillars of Eternity). Perhaps now your Aedyr character background will have a little more meaning for you.

| Ep. #5: Aedyran Culture | 22 Feb 2021 | 00:31:16 | |
In the previous episode, we took a look at the origins of the Aedyr Empire (the nation heavily referenced through Avowed's reveal trailer). Before we continue on into the history of Aedyr's colonization efforts, let's take a step back and see what the average Aedyran is like. In this episode we go over some unique Aedyran holidays, take a look at the Aedyran language, and analyze the Aedyran value system.

| Ep. #4: History of Aedyr, Pt. I (Origins) | 07 Feb 2021 | 00:14:48 | |
The Aedyrans are a nation of people who's presence is hinted at throughout the Avowed Reveal Trailer. What better place to start than with a people group who are both foundational to the Pillars settings, as well as involved in all we have for Avowed. Join me as I read through an in-game lore book exploring the unique origins for this elf-human cultural amalgamation. | Ep. #3: Diving into Avowed's Leaked Information | 24 Jan 2021 | 00:32:53
The day after the reveal trailer was debuted (at the Xbox Games Showcase) for Avowed, a LEAK came out (boy, that didn't take long). Let's see what lore is offered in this 20-bullet point list of leaked information, shall we? ["Spoiler": we pretty much just talk about 'The Living Lands']. | [BONUS] Ep. #2.5: SPECULATION on Avowed's Setting... | 24 Jan 2021 | 00:17:34
Something I left out from the last episode (Avowed's Reveal Trailer) about there being TWO MOONS in the Trailer. This small detail led to a wild speculative theory I have about Avowed's setting... MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. Twitter: @worldofeora, Email: worldofeora@gmail.com
| Ep. #2: Diving into Avowed's Reveal Trailer | 24 Jan 2021 | 00:27:03 | |
Since almost all of us are more likely familiar with the reveal trailer for Avowed (check it out at eternity.obsidian.net) I figured we'd start there. We go through, frame by frame...or I guess "sound cue to sound cue" and explore what lore there is to find in the trailer itself. Any questions? | Ep. #106: "History of Eora" Anthology, Pt. 2: Dyrwood-related Tomes (Vols. 2 & 3) | 11 Aug 2024 | 00:30:18
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode is a continuation of the "History of Eora" series I am plinking away at, where we look at the esoteric in-game "History of Eora" lore-books from the Forgotten Sanctum DLC in the second Pillars games. This week, I focus on Dyrwood related tomes (Dyrwood being the setting for Pillars 1), which results in a shorter episode (which I do on purpose, just getting back into the swing of things post-vacation). We learn about the very first Hollowborn (and what it is) as well as the inciting events that founded the nation of Readceras.
| [BONUS] Ep. #105.5: Some Podcast Outtakes | 04 Aug 2024 | 00:04:46 | |
Hey, I'm on vacation this week, so no new full episode...BUT I didn't wanna leave y'all hanging so here's a quick little episode about one giant piece of news, followed by two minutes of me making mistakes in a few podcast episodes over the many months of this show's existence. I hope (some of) you will enjoy it.
| Ep. #105: The Hand Occult | 29 Jul 2024 | 00:32:40 | |
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode is regarding a Wael-affiliated faction (Wael being the god of dreams/mysteries/secrets/revelations) "The Hand Occult", whose primary focus is the control of flow of esoteric knowledge.
| Ep. #104: "The History of Eora" Anthology [Avowed Related], Vols. 5, 12, 7, then 2... | 22 Jul 2024 | 00:40:34 | |
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode I dive into the in-game "History of Eora" anthology, which as been requested for quite a while. I don't do all 16 entries of these books in this episode, I just pick the ones I think could be related to Avowed / Living Lands in some way. It gets pretty interesting, and we draw some connections which might be seen in the game of Avowed. I *will* be doing future episodes on the other 12, but likely in just 4-book segments, done topically.
| Ep. #103: Aedyr Revisited | 15 Jul 2024 | 00:42:50 | |
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. In this week's episode I revisit the lore of the Aedyr Empire, its people, its history, and their language. This is largely a summation of lore that I did a few years ago (check out Ep. 4-6, and some afterwarsd) about this. However, with the involvement of Aedyr mentioned in the Avowed trailers of recent I decided it was time to give a decent overview in an updated way. So, here's to the Aedyr Empire! Happy Feast of Feasts!
| Ep. #102: Inquisitor Lödwyn & The Steel Garrote | 08 Jul 2024 | 00:40:32 | |
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode focuses on Inquisitor Lödwyn, and the paladin order she helps lead, the Steel Garotte. Most of the lore will be about the Paladin order, but we tie it back to the Inquisitor. This lore is also associated to the goddess of Law, Woedica; and the empire of Aedyr. All of which is discussed (a bit) and speculated upon for Avowed. For instance...why did Obsidian choose The Steel Garrote over all the other potential factions? Did they need a Woedican faction? And Aedyran-origin faction? Who knows...
