This week we look at Aloth, a companion from both Pillars of Eternity games, and fan-favourite within the series. Our resident Wizard from the Aedyr empire, this episode talks about his background and what paths he can takes throughout the story of the Pillars games. Will Aloth make an appearance in Avowed? He's definitely a strong candidate given his ties to a certain secretive faction, and Aedyran nationality. But I suppose only time will tell.

This week's episode discusses the major city settlement in the second Pillars game (Deadfire), "Neketaka". We look at the city overall, with some of its history and culture, before doing a brief dive into each of the city districts. Finally, we top the episode off with a look at some ancient ruins beneath the city and what that might imply for the Huana peoples living in the region.

Not wanting to forgo releasing another lore episode weeks from now, I opted to do a shorter episode on a specific creature that I think we are likely to see in Avowed, regardless of both location and time (in history) in the fantasy setting of Eora.

Today's episode comes nearly a week late (sorry, #NewDad), but in it we take a look at the introduction to the Deadfire Archipelago (the setting for Pillars II) as read in the official Guidebook for the game. We learn about the importance of Luminous Adra, we overview the geography of the region; as well we stop to read about some metal_AF creatures that exist in the LORE (but not necessarily the game).

I wonder what, if anything, from the Deadfire will be carried over into Avowed?

Classic to nearly all fantasy settings are Dragons. Sometimes these creatures are enigmatic and inherently magical creatures; other times they are mindless territorial fire-breathing beasts. Eora, I think, strikes a nice balance of epic and mundane in their character design for dragons in Eora.

Today's episode discusses a special kind of creature in the world called Maegfolc ("mage-folk"); these creatures are not like any other mundane creature, but have divine origins & purposes; as well as mystery/intrigue to their very existential nature.

We have sufficient reason to think that Maegfolc creatures will be present in Avowed (more on that in the episode)! So, let's get hyped, and geek out about a fantasy world we can all love!

"Eora" is the name of the fantasy world (made by Obsidian) for the Pillars of Eternity games, as well as Avowed. This podcast explores the lore of that world.

Today's episode, we discuss a natural oceanic phenomenon known as "Ondra's Mortar" which is an expanse of ocean just north of the Deadfire Archipelago (a region in the world of Eora). What makes this expanse of ocean, Ondra's Mortar, special is the incredibly destructive and impenetrable nature of the storms that reside over it; as well as the set of active volcanoes along it's border.

Join me today as we discuss Ondra's Mortar.
