The Witches of Letters: A Supernatural Rewatch Podcast – Détails, épisodes et analyse

In this episode Joy and Laura break down season 5 episode 21 of Supernatural “Two Minutes To Midnight”. Sam and Dean defeat the third horseman pestilence to gain his ring, and Bobby sells his soul to Crowley so he will help them find the final horseman Death.  Dean finds Death in Chicago and he offers his ring to Dean on the promise that Dean will make sure Lucifer is trapped at whatever cost, even if it means losing his brother.

We discuss Death’s introduction scene and if it was better than Cas’ introduction, Dean’s reaction to Death being one of genuine fear, and Laura is confused about Cas’ loss of angel  powers.

We also discuss whether Pestilence got less screen time than deserved, in comparison to all the other horsemen; Bobby being able to walk again; and Joy has to explain what Sam’s plan actually is to Laura.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about the location (Davenport, Iowa) and how it being linked to Pestilence in this episode makes sense, other location links to the end of the world, and the legend of Julia Brown.

Crowley turns up to help and they kidnap a demon named Brady who works for a pharmaceutical company and may know where Pestilence is. 

We discuss how much we love Crowley, how Brady is giving Patrick Bateman vibes, and the first time Sam gets called ‘Moose’.

We also discuss Sam’s plan to let Lucifer possess him, get annoyed on behalf of Sam for Bobby not believing in him, and talk about Dean’s hellhound PTSD.

We discuss the similarities between Dean and Michael in this episode, how lonely Dean must have been his whole adult life, and Sam and Dean’s stolen childhood innocence. We also consider how JDM was de-aged for the flashback scenes, was it digital, or did he just shave?

This week Joy and Laura discuss season 1 episode 17 “Hell House”. Sam and Dean have a prank war while investigating a seemingly haunted house, and they meet paranormal investigators Ed and Harry for the first time.

We discuss tulpas and how the show has kind of created its own in Richardson, TX because of this episode. Laura tells us about her tv show pet peeve of drivers not watching the road, and Joy explains some of the real on set pranks that have happened during the show’s tenure.  Joy’s Easter egg links this episode to My Little Pony of all things, and did anyone know what persqueeter meant before this episode??

This week Joy and Laura discuss season 1 episode 16 “Shadow”.

Sam and Dean are investigating in Chicago where demonic shadow creatures are killing people. Meg is back and she’s evil!! We also see John Winchester again, albeit very briefly.

We discuss the SFX used for the shadow demons, how Meg might be linked to the Salem Witch Trials, and Laura is so annoyed with Dean in this episode for not using his upstairs brain!

We also talk about Sam and Dean’s reactions to seeing their dad again, we gush once more over Jeffery Dean Morgan’s acting skills and hotness, and we make more die hard references in this episode than we were expecting.

Sam is abducted by the Bender family and Dean teams up with a sheriff’s deputy to find him. We discuss cat jump scares, why Sam can’t just use his powers to free himself, and Joy writes us a ‘fun fact’ jingle, as well as a new podcast motto. Did anyone else notice that the cages completely changed half way through? Please write in and let Joy know she isn’t going crazy.

This week Joy and Laura discuss season 1 episode 14 “Nightmare”. Sam's visions are getting stronger and leads them to investigate a series of deaths in the Miller family.

We talk about the evolution from “Dean girl” to “Sam girl” and why that might be the case. Hint, it’s therapy! Dean’s duck face makes another appearance, as does Aunt Zelda from Sabrina The Teenage Witch!

We discuss whether the real villain in this episode is Max or his step mother, the parallels between Max and Sam, and how Dean reacts to this. Joy is not loving Dean at all this episode because he’s being an asshole (#TeamSam), although she did like those priest costumes!

Joy’s Easter eggs this episode include a haunted dorm, electoral fraud in Athens, Ohio, and the real life story that this episode is based on that ignited the civil rights movement. We also discuss grizzly death scenes that we are surprised made it onto network TV, and the beautiful yet tense action scene where Dean faces the truck and we aren’t 100% sure if he is going to make it, and nor is Sam!

Joy thinks this episode is sexy in social justice and sexy with men in ties.

This week’s episode is apparently really popular within the fandom, but we weren’t feeling it. We thought it was really depressing, but we did record on a Monday so that may have had something to do with it. 

We discuss the stupidity of the opening scene and have differing opinions about Dean’s reaction to his prognosis from the doctor. Laura zones out when the conversation focuses on the religious aspects of this episode…twice!

We think the use of tarot in this episode is a very strange work of fiction, and Sue-Ann…what an evil bitch!
