Ep 288 Leading Remotely In A Crisis

mardi 13 avril 2021Durée 26:33

On today’s show we are going to talk about leading remotely. Before we dive in, let’s take a beat here and recognize that this isn’t necessarily new. There are just a LOT more people doing it, of course many who may have never had to lead in this way at the moment. While many of the same rules of leadership apply, this new context will require even more skills of being present, emotionally intelligent and likely, patience. For those leaders out there who have never had to do it, here is some great news; you get to learn some new skills and even enhance some old ones. We covered this topic back in 2017. You can listen to the show here. There are a few things that hold true no matter “where” you are leading from. Those include setting expectations, establishing clear goals, making and keeping clear agreements and also, the other skills that make leading worthwhile like being a decent human being. This past weekend on CBS Sunday Morning, they also talked about what we all need from leaders, especially in a crisis. You can check out the clip right here. It is excellent!

Ep 285 Are You Blinded by Personality

vendredi 6 mars 2020Durée 23:14

This week’s show we ask a question that is intended to lead us into greater awareness as it pertains to how we relate to the people in our lives and especially in leadership. We are going to explore the idea of unconscious bias, essentially. How do our bias’ lead us to miss the details of what is happening in our leadership? How can we bring greater awareness to these bias’ and what can we do to work with them? The good news in work is that we have several different ways that we can address these when it comes to hiring and interviewing, managing performance and doing our best to avoid making things “personal”. Which means, not being blinded by personality. So join us this week as we explore the question!

198: Patience Is A Virtue…That Needs to Be Cultivated In Leadership

vendredi 6 avril 2018Durée 29:23

What does it mean to be patient?

We’ve all been told to be patient, that patience is a virtue, etc. etc. However, what does it REALLY mean? How do we actually achieve being patient in a way that helps us and helps others?…

197: Are Your Values a Marketing Campaign?

vendredi 30 mars 2018Durée 21:39

Are you for real or just creating a marketing campaign?

Do your values actually represent who you are and what you value?

Many companies state values that are, well, obvious. It’s essential that your values represent you and what you stand for, not simply what’s already implied.…

196: What Makes a Group Great

vendredi 23 mars 2018Durée 28:31

What makes a group, at work, great?

Culture.

Culture creates the success or the failure of a group. Culture comes from the latin word cultus which means “to care.” So when someone asks you about your culture, they are, essentially, asking you about what you care about.…

195: You’re More Resilient Than You Think

vendredi 16 mars 2018Durée 26:21

We truly are a LOT more resilient than we think. It’s amazing how easy it is to have doubt or fear or some other negative thought that causes us to “believe” that we aren’t as resilient as we wish we were.…

194: How to “Get Better”

vendredi 9 mars 2018Durée 25:49

Today’s topic centers on developing ourselves! We’re all about growing and expanding here on this show, but it’s not JUST about getting better. For example, comparing ourselves to others (we need to be better like them…) is a recipe for disaster.…

193: The Issues with Employee Surveys

vendredi 2 mars 2018Durée 24:30

Who doesn’t love a good survey?

But beware the survey… they do have limits.

There are a number of issues with employee surveys, particularly “burnout” surveys and employee engagement surveys. There are a few biases (which we explain in the show) that play a huge factor in employee surveys.…

192: Stop Talking About Employee Engagement

vendredi 23 février 2018Durée 26:41

We are on the soapbox today! But there is a good reason for it. The overall idea and the way employee engagement is talked about, not the mention the poor definition of it, is just not healthy. This episode was inspired by an article in the Harvard Business Review stating that employees are so engaged that they’re burning out.…
