This is it. Season finale and it's gut-wrenching. Prepare yourselves. Goliath meets Poppy over the phone and it's bittersweet. We learn about Tora's fear of spiders, and Poppy asks if they're brothers. Turns out... they're TWINS. This explains so much. Dawn has arrived. Goliath's captor comes. Tora and Poppy clutch each other as the worst happens. Goliath goes out happy that after a life of betrayal, he did one thing right for his brother. Tora tells Poppy about Goliath and seeks a cigarette, but Poppy wants to distract him by climbing on his lap. We switch scenes to Tracker #6. The jerk on the train apparently has been following them and is reporting to Cat Lady, also known as Courtney. And Courtney is reporting to... none other than CORDELIA, who calls Poppy "young mistress." !!! What a season finale! What heartbreaking and shocking twists! As Poppy showers, Tora receives a call. IT'S GOLIATH. Tora is in shock and asks him where he is. Goliath says he's in Malibu, but it's clear he's very far away and in a dingy jail cell. He looks out the window and sees the incoming dawn. We can all guess what that means. Tora wants to come get him, but all Goliath wants to do is say he's sorry. He is moved to learn that Tora came to get him that day that he called. We flashback to Tora's memory of how Goliath ratted him out and got him imprisoned in return for a clear record and wishful thinking. He visits Tora in jail and is completely oblivious and unrepentant. Years later, he comes to pick up Tora, very far removed from the clean civilian lawyer he said he would be. Tora shocks Poppy and readers with his guitar playing and singing skills. He lets his feelings show and Poppy sees them, reaching to comfort him. He asks if Quincey told her what he does, and she says she does. Tora is incredulous that she is still there. So incredulous that he traps her underneath him and proceeds to kiss her senseless. Poppy thinks about Tora's potential punishment and begins to spiral and ask him random questions before bursting into tears. Tora thinks she is worried for herself, but then she drops the L bomb: "I love you, Tora." Tora immediately thinks of his impending doom and the pain his mother experienced, and withdraws. He then rejoins with cutting words and we are left there. I had the pleasure of chatting with #NetflixWitcher actor and second assistant editor, Nathanial Jacobs. We talked about how he got to where he is now, including a very embarrassing early acting experience, and how he came to work for #TheWitcher. Nathanial shared fun behind-the-scenes from the set and also explained his fascinating job in the editing room, including his work (there was a sock involved) on the Witcher trailer! We see that Gyu texted him that none other than Yadori and his crew have been by Poppy's apartment. Poppy spends all day cleaning and then runs looking for Tora to tell him something. An unknown person is speaking to Messenger VII, telling them that they are taking over the operations. We wonder whether this person is working for the leader or for Apostle VII’s supporters. They leave the messenger with new directives. At the APD interrogation room, two officers try to wake Elvira Lloyd, only to discover that she has been killed by golden viper venom. Bella has just used this venom to kill Ryan Flemmings, apparently angrily. We speculate why. Kieran and Bella share an odd dynamic of youthful comfort but also distrust. It doesn’t take much convincing for a still-hurting Kieran to help Bella move the body. He also tries to dissuade her from sending Flemming’s body to his family, no doubt because of the guilt he feels over similar actions. They quote a Barbie line before heading to the morgue, where a somber Moriarty receives him. Both Bella and Kieran seem to be fishing for information. Bella implies that Kieran is untrustworthy, and wonders why he keeps working for the Phantom Scythe now that his reason, probably the protectee, is gone. They engage in a short discussion about the morality of their behavior, with Kieran saying they had no choice and Bella reminding him they could always opt out. We learn they have some sort of agreement between them, and that Bella owes him something, but her ultimate loyalty is to the Phantom Scythe. Bella once again pries, trying to find out if Kieran cares for Lauren. He denies such weakness but points out Bella’s own. She repudiates any affection but would also kill for Neyra, so… We learn that Bella feels appreciation for the Phantom Scythe for rescuing her from being a Greychapel orphan and to Apostle VII for making her powerful. We flash back to a younger Bella being abused by a drunk father, and returning to kill him. Kieran and Bella debate on who is trapped, and Bella ends the conversation by claiming she needs to prepare for her next kill. We discuss their character’s differing approach to morality and choice extensively, and end with horrible speculations about Kieran’s final words and their potential irony. Kieran, with his ever impeccable fashion sense, meets with the Messenger to try to defend his lack of Lune killing. He faces down threats with jokes of his own, which may refer to his protectee as well as the beating he received. The Messenger leaves, warning a sad looking Kieran that he will receive a new mission from Apostle IV soon. We cut to the leader in the same position, at the head of a table full of Apostles, all arguing that Apostle VII needs to be punished for his insurrection. Apostle VII plays it cool as a cucumber, pointing out that he has become both popular and indispensable with his work for the poor and alliances. Finally, the leader has had enough of this back and forth. He reminds Apostle VII that he has agreed to become a monster for the sake of fighting bigger monsters, a line that echoes Kieran’s choice. But he does not forgive betrayal, as he did not forgive Lauren’s parents, and Apostle VII is unceremoniously dragged away as the leader orders Apostle IV to find and kill Sandman. Our final scene takes place in the underworld, where Kieran is trailing Flemmings, only to discover that he is seconds too late to save him from a grisly death at the hands of none other than our favorite pink-haired assassin, Bella. Quincy watches Poppy walk off on the compound, and decides to have a heart to heart with Tora from the other side of the door. We flashback to Tora buying the house, with a very strange name on his ID and a sympathetic Quincy supporting him, all because Poppy said “maybe.” The “maybe” prompted Tora to dash to Quincy’s house in his underwear, buy a house, and stuff it full of cheap household goods. We gain insight into his thoughts and his worries that Poppy will never speak to him again, and Quincy gives him some good advice about sharing his plans with people so he doesn’t come off as controlling. Sadly, the rest of his advice is lost on the irate Tora. We get a 4th wall break as Quincy dispenses more words of wisdom, for which we love him. Quincy pays Poppy a visit, cleverly distracting her from her crying with his jokes. Just when we thought we were done, we open to Poppy’s strange dream of a giant elephant seal trapping her in a car. Poppy then awakens to a room in the complex where she, Tora and Quincy are all in one cuddle puddle, in their underwear. How did they get there? We learn that he faced a difficult choice, and Dakan is potentially sus with his prying questions. Lauren refuses to disclose Kieran's identity, but shares the information they found out. Tristan retrieves the painting Lauren made for him, and sweet words are exchanged. She finally decides that now is the time to tell them about her parents and Snapdragon. Meanwhile Kym, ensconced in her watermelon duvet, has trouble sleeping due to her factory trauma. Yet another character has no rest. Sandman, in an office, deftly fights off an assassination attempt, and grimly calls a blue haired person from Mirage Opera House, telling them that they've been discovered. As they stop for gas, Poppy mulls over the information Quincy shared: that Felicia Bay and Moonbright are clan-neutral territory. Theory time! She worries for Tora's safety and his breaking Balthuman law by covering his tattoo. Poppy texts Erdene to forward her address to her cousins if she isn't heard from in a week, which is a REALLY LONG TIME. They arrive at the beautiful compound, and Quincy accidentally checks out Poppy's posterior while they unpack, immediately launching into a coughing fit as he, in Kinkajou's words, "chokes on his loyalty." Poppy wonders who the compound belongs to, and is perturbed to discover that it is Tora's. Sam wakes up in Charles' arms and goes to take Bowser out for a walk. She wonders why she feels heavier, and we discuss the meaning of the chains dragging behind her. She spots Marshall being catcalled by some thirsty women, and when she confirms to Marshall that they are no longer watching him, he breaks down, unusued to the physical exercise. Marshall remembers that she was never in good shape due to her poor health, and feels bad, but immediately bounces back and asks Sam how she feels about her new Indigineer score. Sam decides to protect his feelings by pretending she liked it. They walk back to the apartment together, and Charles, waking up from a nightmare about his ex-wife cheating on him, is perturbed at Sam's absence and even more so when he hers he talking to Marshall. He is about to open the door in a brilliant callback to his trauma, but stops himself. He is bent over when Sam enters, and locks her into a passionate embrace. We discuss the implications of Charles' character moving forward. We open with Lila faithfully visiting Lucas, still unconscious in the hospital, and then move to Lauren, being taken care of by Lucy. She looks in the mirror, contemplating what she has done to her friends and family, and now, just like her best bud Kieran, sees her reflection in blood and flames, with vicious monsters surrounding her. She is about to get "eaten" by one of them when a knock on the balcony window shakes her out of her waking nightmare. A dapper and dashing young man by the name of "almost got killed Kieran" is flashing his sardonic grin outside of her door. They exchange hilarious banter, and Kieran admits he has come all this way just to check on her - after only a few hours. Lauren asks about how the Phantom Scythe will handle Kieran's failure to get Lune, and the most romantic moment ever happens!! We are dead. Once again, Kieran deflects and doesn't allow anyone to show concern for him. He asks about how Lauren's friends handled their reunion, and Lauren admits that they may suspect that Kieran is her partner but are mum about it. Kieran assures her of his doctors' silence as well. Kieran then puts his heart on the line and offers Lauren his bed - er -home, and Lauren thanks him. She remembers her begging Kieran to wake up in the factory, and maybe, just maybe, starts to realize how much he means to her. Just then, there is a knock on her door. Kieran disappears in a flash, and Lauren braces herself to remain calm for her reunion with her family, but actually seeing Tristan and Dakan looking distraught for her breaks her down. She steps away from Tristan when he reaches for her and bursts into tears, apologizing for having hurt them and her friends. She collapses, and Tristan takes her into his arms. Back at his apartment, Kieran proceeds to his locked room, finally allowing himself to express his pain, collapsing on the floor before he can reach the chair. In this Meet the Tinker interview, we talk to Keryl Brown Ahmed, the author of Big Ethel Energy on Webtoons who has also worked on a number of film productions. Keryl didn’t even like writing as a kid, and it took a math and science high school to get her to write a script and realize, hey, she liked it. We talk about how she overcomes self-doubt, and her work on the television show Blackish and the new movie Cheaper by the Dozen. Keryl was a huge Archie’s comic fan, so she was thrilled to get the opportunity to pitch a story to Archie’s Comic and Webtoons, and that’s how we ended up with Big Ethel Energy. We talk about the messages Keryl tries to impart in the story, and how she actually likes having structure to help guide her creativity. Will, looking haggard and tired, doesn't believe that Lauren was in a car crash. Luckily for him, the phone rings just at that moment. We switch to Lauren's home, where Kym and Will burst into Lauren's house and Kym aggressively hugs/punches Lauren. They sit down and Lauren tells them.... almost everything. She lies about her partner, telling them that he died in the explosion, though Kym suspects Kieran. They hear a commotion and go outside (with Lauren in pajamas ahem), where they hear the new royal decrees announced by Hermann. To end our Season 3 premiere with a bang, we fast forward to a month later, where we see a shocking scene: Lauren in the cave, and Neyra telling her that "He is dead." Who what when where why? Tora and Poppy come into the house despite seeing that the TV is on. Turns out the intruder is Quincy. They discuss the news, where the Nine Daggers leader was arrested after a leaked video. While Tora and Poppy argue, Quincy receives a text message from his mother. We switch to Mr. and Mrs. Balthuman, sitting on a yacht on their respective phones, completely ignoring each other. Mrs. Balthuman flashes back to when she arrived at the airport with no one to greet her. She calls Smithy, who tells her about the Nine Daggers clan leader arrest and how Vincent is looking for the notebook. Quincy bursts in, running to unite with his very sentimental Mommy. We stan a good son! We hear about the clan matriarch, whose health is declining, and get more insight into the unloving relationship between Quincy's parents. Back on the ship, we learn that Vincent plays Candy Crush and has principles when it comes to playing games. Also, that their marriage is on display for the press to see. Back in Tora's apartment, we learn that Quincy arranged for his parents to be away for a few days to guard them. Lauren and Kieran struggle through the debris, headed towards the tunnel. Kieran knows how to navigate them, and they head to his apartment, struggling mightily. Miraculously, they reach it, and crash into his apartment by the door. Kieran reaches shakily for the phone to call his Phantom Scythe doctor, a decision Lauren questions, while simultaneously making questionable decisions herself by wanting to go home so no one apprehends her. Their proximity to both each other and death's door opens them up, and they have a heart to heart. Lauren asks Kieran why the Purple Hyacinth (not him!) never uses a gun and why he used one earlier. His response is truthful but there is something omitted. She also asks him what he was going to say when they were stuck in the basement, thinking they were going to die. Kieran responds sweetly. We wonder if there is more to the story. Lauren responds to all this by gracelessly passing out. After being rudely reminded of the blood drive, Charles is panicking in his office, willing to feign embarrassing conditions to avoid his fear. Unfortunately, his getaway is foiled by an innocent, wide eyed woman. Charles' analogy gives us insight into his hobbies from a different life. At the blood drive, Sam can't donate, and Charles is trying to bribe a cheery phlebotomist when Sam catches on and rescues him. They are about to leave, but unfortunately, Umed chooses that time to socialize, and Charles can't handle the sight of the needle in his arm.... at all.
