Sober Holiday Tips

Saison 1 · Épisode 35

dimanche 22 décembre 2024Durée 19:02

The holidays are a magical time, but they can also bring stress and pressure, especially when navigating alcohol-filled social events.

Remember, staying sober during the holiday season is entirely your choice. No one can force you to drink, and if someone does, you have the right to decline or even skip the event altogether. You’re an adult, and your sobriety is important.

Tips for Staying Sober this Holiday Season

  1. Reflect on Past Experiences: Whether it's an embarrassing memory or a painful hangover, use past experiences to remind yourself why you chose sobriety.
  2. Bring Your Own Drinks: Samantha advises bringing your own non-alcoholic beverages to social gatherings. "It's your own prerogative to have fun without the influence of alcohol," she says.
  3. Set Boundaries and Leave if Necessary: If a situation becomes uncomfortable or too tempting, it's okay to leave. "We're adults," she emphasizes. "You can make the decision not to attend or to leave early if it’s best for your sobriety."
  4. Surround Yourself with Support: Engage with other sober individuals, whether it's through AA meetings, social media communities, or sober podcasts. Samantha highlights the importance of finding a supportive community, noting that there are resources available everywhere—from TikTok to Audible books on sobriety.

Sam's Sober Update

Saison 1 · Épisode 26

dimanche 13 octobre 2024Durée 21:56

Today, I'm diving deep into my sobriety journey, especially focusing on how I've managed to travel while staying sober. It's been challenging but also incredibly fulfilling. I've gathered some of my best tips that have helped me navigate through various trips and experiences without alcohol.

Helpful Tips for Being Sober While Traveling:

  1. Always Have a Drink Plan: Pack aesthetic non-alcoholic drinks like Recess or Poppi in a cooler so you won't be tempted to drink alcohol.
  2. Keep a Drink in Hand: Replace the urge for alcoholic beverages with fun, non-alcoholic options such as lattes, juices, or flavored sodas.
  3. Ask for What You Need: Don't hesitate to request your drink in a fancy glass with a fresh garnish to feel included during social toasts and cheers.
  4. Remove Yourself from Triggers: Feeling agitated? Walk away from the situation to clear your mind and reset your focus.
  5. Give Yourself Grace: Accept that triggers may happen and allow yourself the space to navigate them without guilt.
  6. Be Open About Your Journey: Encourage conversations about your sobriety to make it more manageable and less of a "dirty little secret."
  7. Play the Tape Forward: Think about the long-term consequences of taking that "one" drink to remind yourself why you chose sobriety.
  8. Focus on What's Important: Remember that certain experiences and relationships are more valuable than the temporary pleasure of drinking.
  9. Have a Support System: Randomly calling friends or family helps shift focus from the urge to drink and provides emotional support.

Saison 1 · Épisode 22

dimanche 4 août 2024Durée 50:32

This one is going to leave you craving some delicious banana bread. Kate and Brock joined me to dish out the inside scoop on their journey into the world of banana bread business and let me tell you, it's not all sunshine and rainbows… well, except for the "golden banana" kind!

Kate and Brock spill the bananas on their banana bread beginnings from a car covered with free bananas, a prank that turned profits into late-night baking sessions and taking over social media with their scrumptious loaves. The two of them are sharing the truth behind starting their business from rock bottom.

When life gives you bananas, make banana bread.

These two faced city restrictions, unpredictable weather, and a few too many unsold loaves that left them feeling a bit deflated. However, they persevered and pushed through, finding their sweet spot in the heart of Saint George, near Costco. And before you know it, their business went bananas. Literally!

So, they have officially started the"golden banana" challenge. No, this isn’t just a delicious treat but also a community-focused event. Kate and Brock are preparing a scavenger hunt with a jaw-dropping $50,000 grand prize.

And here's the fun part: They're dreaming big with plans for a world-traveling banana mobile. Yup, you heard that right—a golden banana road trip extravaganza!

Is your mind blown yet?

You want a slice of that.

Kate's Banana Bread is on the rise, and its journey is filled with grit, grind, strategy, tears, joy, and plenty of bananas.

Grab your favorite headphones and hear straight from the banana man and his lovely partner about how you can make your dreams your reality. I still can’t believe a banana prank turned into a thriving business. You're in for a treat!

Women's Health and Your Pelvic Floor with Ash Sorensen, Mrs. Washington County, Utah

Saison 1 · Épisode 21

dimanche 21 juillet 2024Durée 46:25

Today, we are joined by a fantastic guest, Ash Sorensen, Misses Washington County, and a woman’s health advocate. She’s spilling the tea behind the scenes in the pageantry world and women’s health and wellness.

Our conversation was eye-opening about an often overlooked part of women's health - the pelvic floor. It's not just about doing Kegels; it's about focusing on the entire pelvic floor and all the holes to avoid issues like urinary tract infections and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Ash emphasized the importance of paying attention to your body and not just "training" your bladder, especially as adults. Although leaks, pain, and tightness are common, they are not normal. We need to start talking about the truth behind these symptoms and give hope to others about the possibility of stopping them.

It is possible to jump on a trampoline without peeing yourself, ladies.

Lifestyle changes, such as maintaining proper posture, checking stress and tension, and relaxing the upper body, are all crucial for pelvic floor health.

And speaking of running, if you're a fan of trail running like me, it's important to remember that external cues and habitual behaviors can impact pelvic floor function, leading to the feeling of needing to pee frequently.

One of the main factors we often forget in our wellness journey is JOY. We need to start focusing on things we enjoy in this fast-paced world. We talk about the fun parts of life, like hiking, trail running, and even the joy of enjoying a good book series for some escapism from stress.

And speaking of JOY, if you are in the Southern Utah area, you must check out the upcoming adult prom event that Ash is organizing to raise funds for women’s wellness scholarships. Jake and I are in.

Remember to check in with our bodies, prioritize our health, and add some joy. Together, let’s change the conversation around women's health and wellness!
