This single barrel of cask strength Angel's Envy finished in Oloroso sherry cask and bottled at 115.3 proof is a fruit and leather showstopper. Cinnamon candy on the nose with subtle red fruit and toffee. On the palate, traditional bourbon notes lead with leather, vanilla, apricot and chocolate, but from mod-palate on the sherry takes over imparting a very rich raspberry wine note that pairs PERFECTLY with the whiskey. Based on the retail of cask strength AE the last several years, this is a deal!
Wild Turkey Master's Keep Triumph

This year's Master's Keep is a 104 proof 10+ year old non-chill filtered rye whiskey that's not playing games. It's big, bold, spicy, sweet, with extra char but enough rye spice to lighten things up JUST enough to keep it from falling over from the oak. A touch of citrus throughout both the nose and palate along with a very complex fruit note akin to grilled peaches. This doesn't taste like ANYTHING else out that, and for once, that's a good thing!

From the owners of St. Elmo's comes a vodka so smooth, it might be TOO SMOOTH? Made from Midwest corn based 6 times distilled vodka, then pressure filtered using a proprietary process, Barkeep literally has no bite wahtsoever. It's extremely clean tasting, almost invisible when mixed with any ingredient. It's the PERFECT well bourbon and one HECK of a value for the price.

Tasting Notes: Shhhhhh....don't tell anyone about Evan Williams 100 proof Bottled-in-Bond, especially when we've got it on Red Hot Deal for UNDER $18. It's at least 4 years old and bottled at 100 proof, from ONE distillery, made in ONE distilling season. Fresh mint and oak on the nose, typical Heaven Hill with a rustic woodsiness I've always enjoyed. On the palate, bright bourbon fruit mixed perfectly with a more mature oak profile. The decent malt content provides a touch of shortbread as well. Long finish, and complex, but not over oaked. For an "EVERYDAY" bourbon, it's either this, Wild Turkey 101, or Old Fo 100 proof if you ask me. Why not have them ALL!

Tasting Notes: A "blended malt," bottled at 92 proof with big doses of Linkwood and the always delicious Clynelish, Compass Box Orchard House is the perfect scotch for spring. Inviting citrus, fruit, and floral aromas are integrated with a backbone of sweet malt. On the palate, vanilla bean, peach ice cream, lemon curd, and finger limes along with more exotic tangerine and lychee. Plus it's all MALT for UNDER $50
Review: Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream

Tasting Notes: Now that it's become much more widely available, I thought I'd take a look at Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream, and also, as of the writing of this, it's SNOWING after Valentine's Day so why not??!! The nose promises creamy bourbony goodness with a big hit of vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, it's got the BIG hit of bourbon flavor and bite that you want. Not too sweet, perfect pulled right from the fridge and served neat. 30 proof, but be careful, seated by the fire, this will sneak up on you!
Whiskey Review: Evan Williams 1783

We are always looking for the most under the radar brands that offer a great value, and Evan Williams 1783 fits the bill perfectly. It's not a fancy bottle, but at 90 proof with a more than 4yr minimum mature age profile, I'd put this one right up against Elmer T Lee in a blind decanter test. Elegant nose of butterscotch, mint, wild honey, and lemon. On the palate, perfectly portioned delivery of sweet oak along with space, and more butterscotch to finish. Never pass up a $20 bourbon that no one is drinking, because THAT'S the next hard to get!
Whiskey Review: Huber Blackberry Whiskey

Tasting Notes: If you liked the new Crown Royal Blackberry, you should definitely treat yourself to Indiana's original version of this, Huber's Blackberry whiskey. It doesn't get more "down on the farm" than this with real copper-pot distilled Indiana bourbon being blended with farm-grown blackberries, and bottled at 84 proof. There's nothing too sweet or cloying about this, and with the addition of lemonade you've got a perfect farmer's porch drink, all made right here in the Hoosier state.
Whiskey Review: Jefferson's Bourbon

Tasting Notes: When the Zoeller Family finally sold their shares in Jefferson's Bourbon to Pernod Ricard last year, it was inevitable that we would see a branding and design refresh. In the case of VSB, or Very Small Batch as it had been called, the changes have been subtle, and I think for the most part better. They've dropped the "Very Small Batch" and instead have emphasized "Straight Bourbon Whiskey" retaining the "blend of" right above it. There's still no indication of age, other than without an age statement, we KNOW it's at least 4 years old. And we still don't know the distillery of origin, because that's never been published. But with it being on Red Hot Deal this period for $26, I thought we'd take another look at this relatively LOW priced premium whiskey. Light fruit, herbs, mint, and oak on the nose with a chocolate cherry distinctiveness. On the palate, more soft oak with honey and some nuts to go with the fruit.
Liqueur Review: Dom B & B Liqueur

Tasting Notes: What did 15th century Norman monks know about alcohol? Quite a lot it turns out, expressed most succinctly in the now Bacardi owned brand of Benedictine. Made with 27 different flowers, berries, herbs and spices. Perfected by Alexandre Le Grand, and given the addition of 40% brandy at New York City's famous 21 Club, B&B is a sweet and herbily drink perfect on the rocks with a twist. If you like Drambuie in a Rusty Nail or Grand Marnier neat after a meal, then give this concoction a try.
