Today’s podcast features three women from the ISH Mentorship and Training Committee. They are: Lebo Gafane-Matemane, Associate Professor of Physiology from North West University in South Africa; Karla Neves, Lecturer at Strathclyde University in the UK; and Hamdi Jama - Research Fellow at Monash University in Australia.

Lebo, Karla and Hamdi spoke about their career paths, their experience of mentorship, and more.

In the latest episode, we had the privilege to interview Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak, a Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Glasgow; Honorary Consultant Physician and Non-Executive Member of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board; Health Innovation Champion for the Medical Research Council; and Chief Scientist (Health); Scotland. She has made important contributions to field in several leadership positions, including as the President of the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland (2018-2021), President of European Society of Hypertension and Secretary of ISH and Editor-in-Chief of Hypertension. Amongst several awards, Professor Dominiczak is the recipient of the 2022 ISH Robert Tigerstedt Award.

In the latest podcast, we had the pleasure to interview Dr Ernesto Schiffrin, a Physician-in-Chief, Jewish General Hospital, Director of the Hypertension and Vascular Research Unit, Lady Davis Institute, Distinguished James McGill Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Medicine, at McGill University, Canada. 

Dr Schiffrin is a past President of the Canadian Hypertension Society and Hypertension Canada, past chair of the American Heart Association Hypertension Council, and a past president of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH). Dr Schiffrin received the 2021 ISH Franz Volhard Award and the 2021 Distinguished Scientist of the American Heart Association.

In the latest podcast, Dr Augusto Montezano and Dr Karla Neves interview Dr Catherine Llorens-Cortes, a Research Director Emeritus at the INSERM Institute, France. 

Dr Llorens-Cortes was the winner of the 2021 ISH Honour for Senior Women Researchers for her recognition of the translational work from the lab to the clinic she has led. In 2021, she also received the prestigious Emilia Valori Prize from the French Academy of Sciences.

In the latest podcast, we had the pleasure to interview Dr Tony Heagerty, a clinician scientist, Professor of Medicine and the Head of the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Manchester, the United Kingdom. 

Professor Heagerty is a former president of the International Society of Hypertension, the British Hypertension Society and the European Society of Hypertension. He was Co-Chair of the Review Committee for the 2018 ESH/ESC Hypertension Guidelines.

In the latest ISH podcast, we had the pleasure of interviewing Professor Yook-Chin Chia, a clinician and the Head of the Department of Medical Sciences, Sunway University, Malaysia. She is the immediate past President of the Malaysian Society of Hypertension. At the ISH, she is a member of the Asia Pacific Regional Advisory Group.

In the latest podcast, we had the pleasure to interview Dr Rana El-Bikai is a medical director at RxTalentHub. She was, at the time of this interview, an Assistant Professor at the department of Public Health, University of Balamand, Lebanon. At the ISH Dr. El-Bikai is a member of the Middle East and North African (M.E.N.A.) Regional Advisory Group (R.A.G).

In the latest podcast, we had the pleasure to interview Professor Fadi Charchar, the Director of the Health Innovation and Transformation Center at Federation University Australia. He is a professorial research fellow at the University of Melbourne and visiting Chair at the University of Leicester. He was also the Dean of the Graduate Research School and Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor of research. He is President of the International Society of Heart Research – Australasia section, and the Treasurer of the ISH.

In the latest podcast from the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), we interview Dr Ching Siew Mooi, a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and a Consultant Clinical Specialist at the Universiti Putra Malaysia. At the International Society of Hypertension, she is a member of the Women in Hypertension Committee. She is also a member of the Hypertension core group of The Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and served in the Council for the Malaysian Society of Hypertension.

In the latest podcast, we had the pleasure to interview Dr Ruan Kruger, Professor of Physiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the North-West University, South Africa. 

Amongst several leadership roles, Professor Kruger is the former chair of the ISH New Investigator Committee (NIC) and a current member of the ISH Women in Hypertension Research Committee.
