The Juicy Bits:

  1. The end of factory farming is more likely than the end of farming animals in general for food.
  2. Factory farming is a method of farming, and it is also a set of laws, policies, and economic structures that enable a certain kind of farming.
  3. Since the Cold War, the USDA privatized industrial meat production for economic and political gain.
  4. People do not want antibiotics, drugs, chemicals, and contamination in their food.
  5. Humanewashing is like greenwashing, the use of marketing by companies to give the public the impression that their products align with your values.
  6. Because most people don't want meat, dairy, and eggs with drugs in them, there are layers of humanewashing: unregulated terms like all natural, humanely-raised, sustainable, cage free, and pasture raised; and unregulated certifications like certified human and animal welfare certified.
  7. The food industry doesn't do testing for antibiotics, because they don't want to know if they're there. If they know, then they'll have to solve the problem, and that's expensive.
  8. Andrew's favorite foods: cauliflower shwarma, Beyond Beef steak tips

Chuck Carroll is host of the Physicians Committee’s popular “The Exam Room” podcast and known widely as The Weight Loss Champion, a name given to him by an NFL player for losing an incredible 275 pounds.

At just 5 feet 6 inches tall, Chuck weighed 420 pounds and had a 66-inch waist before radically changing his life.

Before that, like so many others, he tried and failed countless times to lose weight.  Any success he achieved was short-lived as the weight came pouring back on and then some. At his heaviest, he was eating 10,000 calories every day.

Out of desperation, he decided to have weight loss surgery in 2009. Prior to the procedure he was convinced that it would become like all the other failed attempts to lose weight. Chuck was just 27 years old at the time and didn’t believe he would live to see 30. He thought at least he would go to his grave saying he tried everything.

But then the unexpected happened. He woke up from the surgery and never looked back.

Although a critical component, the procedure proved only to be the first step in his journey. In fact, he only attributes 10 percent of his long-term weight loss success to it. The rest he credits to a plant-based diet and changing his lifestyle!

By adopting a plant-based diet, he is no longer afraid of regaining the weight as he had so many times before — no more yo-yo dieting! He is thrilled that he is lowering his risk of cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease, both of which run rampant in his family. As a bonus, he is no longer spending massive amounts of money on medical expenses because of his optimum health!

The confidence he gained from the weight loss enabled him to pursue his dream of becoming a reporter where he covered sports and news for CBS and later NBC News Radio. He was also previously featured in PCRM’s Teaming Up 4 Health campaign where he had the opportunity to speak on Capitol Hill and share his remarkable journey.

Now he is delighted to be bringing his passion and talents to the Physicians Committee as host of The Exam Room and to show others that the impossible is possible — you can get healthy!

The Juicy Bits:

  1. Fear is a powerful motivator.
  2. One Nacho Theory - you can't have just one. Junk food is addictive.
  3. Dieting isn't fun. Keep it simple. Protein is important, but fiber is more important. Eat a wide variety of plants and you'll get all the nutrients you need.
  4. You can struggle and still perform at a high level. Don't let sickness or setback get in the way of living.
  5. Plaque buildup can be reversed!
  6. Plant-based eating is not extreme. You can recreate all your favorite recipes in a new way.
  7. You will actually taste food and love it, and you won't be plagued with crazy cravings.
  8. Start small by replacing one meal per day with a plant-based one. Then, after a week, replace a second. Then by the third week, replace the third.
  9. Chuck's favorite foods: black coffee, Blue Zone and Plantstrong meals, popcorn, baked sweet potato with steamed broccoli and black beans and hot sauce, hummus!

Lorraine Hightower is a certified Dyslexia Advocate and founder of a leading educational advocacy practice in Northern Virginia. Combining professional expertise with her personal journey as a parent, she transforms the lives of children with dyslexia by creating personalized educational plans that help them learn and thrive. Her advocacy has shaped state policy - securing mandated teacher training on dyslexia in Virginia - and earned her the “Child Advocate of the Year” award from the Virginia state PTA. Recently, she received the “Cypress Leadership Award” from The Siena School for her instrumental work in securing vital support for children with dyslexia. Featured in Dystinct magazine and a frequent guest on national podcasts, Lorraine and her team provide hands-on advocacy, parent training, and consultation for families nationwide. She holds a Certificate in Special Education Advocacy from William & Mary Law School, is a trained mediator, has been a state leader for “Decoding Dyslexia Virginia,” a past board member of the Virginia International Dyslexia Association, and is a professional member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA). Lorraine is a fierce advocate for individuals with dyslexia, as she relentlessly champions structured literacy interventions, effective accommodations, and the opportunities every child needs to succeed in school and in life.Lorraine's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. Moms know deep down when something isn't right.
  2. You could do everything right and still have a child with needs.
  3. The special ed process is lengthy and often met with challenge and condescension. It's not that they teachers don't want to help; it's often that they don't have the proper training.
  4. 2-4 kids in every classroom are dyslexic. Literacy is a national crisis.
  5. Anytime something hard happens, we go through the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance). The 6th stage is advocacy, because you want to help others avoid your pain.
  6. When you get baseline assessment results from school, take initiative to have a conversation with the school.
  7. Educational advocacy is unregulated, so do your homework to find the right advocate.
  8. Waiting is never the answer.
  9. Get emotional behind the scenes, not at a school meeting.
  10. We do what we believe is best, so give yourself grace.

Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. What we do matters. We don't realize the influence we have over the people around us.
  2. When trying a new big thing, we have to make the decision if this is worth trying and moving past our fears.
  3. Having one person believe in you can make the difference. Once you speak your goal out loud to another person means that person can hold you accountable.
  4. Coaches are there to help you reach your goals and they can't read your mind, so you have to tell them what you want so they can help you get there or even tell you that you are capable of even more.
  5. All athletes are wired differently, and it's important to be self-aware, so that you can recognize if your involvement in sports is not supporting your mental health.
  6. It's not an easy road to be an elite athlete, so be prepared to fundraise or pay out-of-pocket until you win big and get sponsors. When you are driven, you find a way.
  7. All athletes struggle with the same "stuff." If someone looks like they have it together, know that they had to learn their lessons along the way. Look at challenges a

Nancy's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. We're not spending enough time talking to ourselves and asking what worked, what didn't, and now what?
  2. To figure out what you want to do, just go and trust that the universe will unfold. Listen to Trinette's interview to hear more on this idea.
  3. A great wealth plan includes anticipating health challenges, so that when they happen, you're well-protected.
  4. Women should take equal responsibility in finances, because women make 85% of buying decision, and they're making more money than ever.
  5. Everybody needs a trusted advisor for both health and wealth.
  6. Understanding menopause is so important, because many symptoms can be misinterpreted as something else. Check these episodes for more information: Carin Luna-Ostaseski, Dr. Cat Brown, Dr. Prudence Hall.

As the host of the insightful podcast "KEEPING ABREAST WITH DR. JENN," she shares her expertise and passion for holistic health. Dr. Jenn's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. If you have a diagnosis, small things matter. If you try to change everything at once, it'll be a disaster. Every day, be a little better.
  2. What you eat, and when you eat, matters. Sleep is when detoxification happens. Your body can't do it if it's busy digesting food.
  3. How you handle stress, talk to yourself, and tell yourself stories matter.
  4. Sometimes, we have to amputate. There is more to toxins than chemicals. Recognize them and eliminate them.
  5. Health is a journey. You never arrive.
  6. When faced with challenges, tell yourself G-d loves you and wouldn't but these things in front of you if he didn't think you couldn't handle them.
  7. Try an app to restrict social media usage.
  8. The only way to fix a bad habit is to replace it with a better one. Crowd out, instead of cut out.
  9. You need to be an educated consumer because social media is filled with quackery. Bad advice is being given by well-intentioned people.
  10. Nonprofit does not equal non-sponsored. Nonprofit organizations are an arm of industry.
  11. The food pyramid is a disaster. It should be designed with what's necessary to sustain us and optimize functioning. It's not.
  12. Hospitals get rated and funded by good cafeteria food. If they served healthy food, patients won't need to return to the hospital, and that's bad for business.

Dr. Jenn's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. 1/3 or more of breast cancer is created unnecessarily by the way we screen. Mammograms are radiation, and repeated radiation causes cancer.
  2. 1 in 5 women will have cancerous changes in the breasts, but 1 in 5 women will not die of breast cancer. The vast majority of women with a diagnosis don't die of breast cancer.
  3. We are a diagnosis-treat society. More diagnoses = more treatment, but the same number of deaths are happening year after year. We have created an epidemic of disease without improving the quality of life... in fact, we've diminished the quality.
  4. In conventional medicine, we're focused on symptoms. And what you focus on grows. The system doesn't want you healthy, because then there's no role for them.
  5. Instead of focusing on a tumor, ask why the cancer is there to begin with. What do you have that you don't need and what do you need that you don't have.
  6. Breast cancer, or any cancer, is a normal response to an abnormal environment.
  7. You can't get healthy in the same environment where you got sick.
  8. If you're not sleeping, you're not repairing and healing.
  9. Medical school doesn't teach critical thinking. It's fall in line or else, follow the rules or be labeled a quack.
  10. We need the foundational things: good food, drink, movement, good thoughts, sleep, detox.
  11. It's not whether you fall down, it's if you get up. You can't get up unless you give your body what it needs. We are built to heal and be healthy, but you have to give the body what it needs and take away what it doesn't.
  12. Big Pharma makes drugs that make us live longer... but we are not living BETTER.
  13. Bioidentical hormones are not talked about, because if you are on them, then you probably don't need the other 10-15 meds you're on.

With her passion and 12+ years of training, schooling, and experience, Brittany now has the honor of leading over 100,000 Food Freedom Fighters internationally to live a life they love instead of living as a slave to diets, weight, and food struggles as a Speaker, Influencer, and Master Coach.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iambrittanybrownFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/brittanyb.tvYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/brittanybrowntvTwitter: https://twitter.com/brittanybtvwww.instagram.comBrittany's Notes from the Sidesline:

  1. Binge eating does not mean fat, lazy, and lacking control. Binge eaters are often people who struggle with perfectionism, control, and body image.
  2. Restrictive, conventional dieting can be the gateway to bigger problems of on-track-off-track mentality and guilt and shame.
  3. Everything we're worried about in life registers to our nervous system as life or death. We need to create safety and peace within.
  4. To deal with stress, Brittany recommends: nourishment, movement, vibration plate, legs up the wall, breathing
  5. Even if you're in a meeting, you can do things to regulate your nervous system: deep breaths, 4-7-8 breathing, environmental spot check
  6. If there's something you're passionate about, you have to pour into it
  7. There's no accomplishment that feels good when you're health is suffering.
  8. You never know what's coming... our struggles lead to beautiful growth and opportunity.

Dr. Jody Carrington is a powerhouse speaker and fearless champion for authentic human connection. She is highly sought after for her expertise, energy and genuine approach to helping people solve the most complex human-centred problems. This rapidly disconnected world is leaving so many of us overwhelmed, lonely, and burned out. Dr. Jody boldly believes that all humans have the capacity for good; however, so many of us these days, because of isolation and burnout, have lost access to that good.Dr. Jody’s work often involves understanding just how we got to this disconnected place, what we need to put the pieces back together, and maybe most importantly, how we collectively do "the work" to find our way back home again when (not if) we lose our way. Her authentic, honest, and often hilarious approach never fails to inspire and motivate audiences.

Jody's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. Turning 50 can make you question everything!
  2. Historically, everyone has always wanted to keep the facade of having it all together. But with social media, we've never had this much access to comparison.
  3. We don't have enough time to defend ourselves if we put anything other than perfection out there.
  4. When we get out of our heads and bodies, and tune in to the millions of opinions in the universe, we lose access to the best parts of ourselves.
  5. If you are emotionally dysregulated, it doesn't matter how much healthy stuff you do, it's a waste of time. We are not designed to take in the amount of noise we do, so we spend most of our times hyperaroused... in fight or flight... survival mode.
  6. We need to get deliberate about spending quality time with others, without the distraction of tech, because we are just not that good.
  7. Drop your shoulders, drop your tongue, wiggle your toes. It tells the body you are safe and allows access to generations of wisdom held within.
  8. We are neurobiologically wired for connection.
  9. Try 5 minutes of stillness per day.
  10. If we're not good at emotional regulation, we're probably also not good at apologizing. But we can get better at both.
  11. Burnout isn't a function of the work you do; it's a reflection of your capacity, or lack thereof, to refuel.
  12. Social media isn't social. You see what aligns with your values and not the other millions of opinions out there.
  13. Don't try to address stress when you're in the middle of it.
  14. Be kind and don't tolerate BS.

Victoria's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. Women need other women to admire who've gone before and walked the journey.
  2. If we truly focus on inner essence, which is love, we'll see that we're all connected. If you have the idea that we're all connected, good things will happen.
  3. Yoga means union with ourselves, others, and the divine. If you're paying attention your inner being, then you're a yogi.
  4. Meditation is the Swiss-army knife of a spiritual life. Whether you use a mantra or focus on your breath, take time every day, in the morning and afternoon, to do it.
  5. Movement includes cardio, strength work, and flexibility. The body-brain connection means that if the body isn't moving, then the brain signals to the body that it doesn't need help. That's bad.
  6. Eat food with life force intact. Ahimsa is the first moral tenet of yoga, and addresses nonviolence. Try to eat in a way that is nonviolent, or less violent.
  7. The next indicated thing means that we have inner wisdom, but if we overthink and ruminate, then we get lost in thoughts. Just follow the next indicated thing over and over and we're going to change the world.
  8. Meditation allows us to make deposits in the spiritual bank. When things are bad, we can make withdrawals. Sometimes we need the help of friends, and even Christian Science practitioners.
  9. Do something every day that lights you up. It's not selfish. It's perpetuating the ripple effect of good.

  1. Being brave and adventurous have to do with perspective -- how we think of ourselves and the judgement perceived.
  2. Small steps lead to big changes.
  3. Starting over is hard... no matter how many times you've done it.
  4. Like scuba diving, in life, when we have challenges, we need to lean on a buddy. So reach out, take small steps, and find a buddy.
  5. You can't do new things in an old way.
  6. Acknowledgement and winning is validating, especially when you do your work alone and don't know if it's impactful.
  7. Find what makes you happy and do it. It is much easier with the internet to find your people.
  8. Travel lets you learn new things and gives you the opportunity for perspective.
  9. You can have a travel experience without ever getting on a plane. Explore your own city.
  10. Be kind to yourself. It's easy to label yourself a failure, but we don't call a baby a failure when it's learning to walk.
  11. When someone says no to you, maybe it means something better is coming.

Trinette Faint is a creative entrepreneur, screenwriter, novelist, and actress. She’s the founder of Chez Faint, a curated networking and retreat company that hosts transformative gatherings across the Globe, of Faint Services Group, a creative consultancy, and of Floor 51 Productions, an entertainment production company. Trinette has upcoming networking events in Rome and New York, with other cities in the works, and is hosting a women’s retreat in Velletri, Italy, in October. She also recently pitched her feature spec at the London Screenwriters’ Festival, to great response, and it's under consideration at multiple production houses. And her novels MidCoast Star and Collette’s Caleb are page-turning escapist romps through the worlds of entertainment and fashion. Collette’s Caleb was loosely inspired by her experience working in the entertainment business, notably at Will Smith’s production company, as Matt Damon’s personal assistant, and for the Tribeca Film Festival.Growing up in Joliet, IL, Trinette began modeling, aged 16, and has since been on the covers of Vogue Knitting magazine, and the book Knitting Out of Africa.Trinette is the first grand prize winner of Harper’s Bazaar’s Fabulous At Every Age contest and she’s been featured on the Today Show, in Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, and Glamour magazines, in addition to other outlets. She has a Feature Film Writing Certificate from UCLA, a BA in Mass Communications from Emerson College, and an MA in Integrated Marketing Communications, also from EmersonCollege.Trinette's Notes from the Sidelines:1. You can't see light without dark.2. Tragedy can give us the space to focus on who we are now.3. We're conditioned to choose stability. If you allow yourself to be who you really are and nurture the itch within, the universe will provide and give you a safety net. It's unpredictable, but you get your life back.4. Be yourself, and don't be scared. But when fear comes in, draw from previous proof. If you stay stuck in fear, you'll never realize or live up to your potential.5. Put yourself in the places the people you want to meet are, so you can be found. It's not going to come to you.6. Choose to put priorities out front, not in the background of your life.

Lynn Harris is a culture-shifting producer, award-winning journalist, and author/co-author of six books, whose comedy and campaigns for social justice and gender equity have changed laws and conversations from Capitol Hill to NASCAR. She is founder and CEO of GOLD Comedy—the comedy school, professional network, and content studio where women and non-binary folks grow their comedy careers, build powerful communities, and make funny stuff. Harris co-created Breakup Girl (acquired by Oxygen), one of the first multiplatform internet success stories, and served as the first VP of communications at global human rights group Breakthrough, where her blend of humor and advocacy powered some of the team’s most effective U.S. campaigns. She has also worked as a Tonya Harding lookalike, which is a long story. Lynn's Notes from the Sidelines:It's not about making people laugh. It's about saying things you think are funny.Wouldn't it be great to recognize comics as simply funny, regardless of their gender.Comedy is a potent social force, so it's not just about the content, it's about the faces and voices, because when you're doing comedy, you have authority. When you make people laugh, you make people listen. There are ways to combine comedy and trauma... if you can hold the trauma far enough away from you and look at it from all sides. And, be sure that the trauma isn't too raw that it's still causing constant pain. The more specific you are about your own story, the more relatable it is.Lynn says, "It takes 10 years to be an overnight success." So stop comparing yourself to others and just enjoy yourself. If you can read a room and say what everyone else is thinking, it relieves pressure and connects people. What if being funny was just for the delight and satisfaction of getting a laugh.Comedy shows allow the audience to bond, because if they all get the joke, then it means they share something.Lynn's websiteGold Comedy IG The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

    1. Everyone can have the IT FACTOR - energy and charisma - through intentional transformation. It's aligning physical, mental, and relational selves.
    2. 65% of your communication comes from nonverbal behaviors.
    3. The relationship you have with yourself is the relationship you're going to have with everybody else.
    4. We have a choice everyday to transform or stay the same.
    5. Neuroplasticity is the ability we all have to rewire the brain and CHANGE.
    6. 3/4 of the population will experience imposter syndrome and/or limiting beliefs at some point.
    7. We know more than we think we do and have to trust our intuition.
    8. There is no right or wrong way to journal. Check out my interview on the Journal with Jenny podcast about my journaling practice.
    9. Failure is only the enemy if you don't learn the lesson.
    10. We end up where we're supposed to be.
    11. We should always stay curious and want to learn and grow.
    12. The habits that got you to where you are and your success may not be what gets you to where you want to be tomorrow. Check out my part 1 interview the Dr. Jenn Simmons about the environment that got you sick.

Nicole Foster is the founder and CEO of Cajou Creamery, a plant-based ice cream company who has ventured into tech with the creation of Sommos, the AI-powered storytelling platform. Sommos helps families preserve, organize, and share their stories before they’re lost to memory loss, digital clutter, or time. Nicole is a legacy advocate and former civil rights and healthcare attorney building a new frontier at the intersection of memory identity and technology.

    Nicole's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Courage is built and nurtured from a strong belief in self, and self-love, and the belief in the universe.
    2. Make decisions based on intuition, what feels light versus heavy.
    3. In stillness, you start to hear spirit. Give yourself the gift of stillness daily, even if it's just 5 minutes.
    4. Think about what you put in your body; food, music, and conversation need to be stimulating and growth-promoting or they will lead to stagnancy.
    5. Life is abundant; it's not about giving things up, but rather moving toward things for my highest good.
    6. Everything happens for my best and highest good. If something doesn't happen for me, then it wasn't meant to, and I'm not going to freak out.
    7. We all have a story; you could either be the heroine or the victim.
    8. We need to train our bodies to understand when spirit is answering, what it feels like in the body, and trust it.
    9. Give yourself liberty to think big, and write out the vision. We don't have to know how, but it's the adventure.
    10. The act of storytelling is so beneficial, especially for the elderly. It increases cognitive functioning, and helps stave off the risk of dementia, increases wellbeing, and the storyteller and listener release oxytocin, feeling connection, love, and pride.
    11. We all have knowing, and the ability to trust intuition, but it takes internal work of shutting off noise from the outside.
    12. Midlife isn't a crisis; it's a reinvention. We need to support our fellow sisters.

Liz Hirsh Naftali is the great-aunt of Abigail Mor Edan, a three-year-old who was held hostage in Gaza for 51 days. Abigail was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, from her Kibbutz, Kfar Azza, after her parents were both murdered in front of her earlier that morning by Hamas terrorists.

Since October 7th, Liz has been a fervent advocate for Abigail’s release and for all the hostages held by Hamas terrorists. She has embarked on extensive travels, engaging with world leaders, meeting with congressional leaders, and delivering impactful speeches in congressional meetings, private gatherings, and through multiple media outlets. Even after Abigail's release on November 26th as part of a US - Qatar brokered deal that saw the return of 109 children and women, Liz remains unwavering in her dedication to tirelessly advocate for the 100 hostages who remain in Gaza.

Liz is the host and creator of The Capitol Coffee Connection podcast, a platform where she invites prominent, diverse leaders to talk about the common thread that binds us all together - our shared experiences, stories, dreams, and the very essence of our heart and humanity - leaving out politics and policy.

Liz operates The Hirsh Collective, a commercial real estate firm in Los Angeles. She serves on the U.S. Commission for American Heritage Abroad, the RAND Corp. Global Emerging Risks Board, Oakwood School and IKAR Boards in Los Angeles, California. Liz is the mother of 5 amazing children.

    Liz's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. It's important for kids to see their parents doing good in the world.
    2. It's important for kids to learn to take care of themselves; it starts with doing chores.
    3. We don't want to be taken care of or given anything; go out and do it yourself.
    4. People get so worked up about politics and news. To bring positivity into your life, listen to inspiring podcasts like The Capitol Coffee Connection and Sideline Sisters, and get out of the joy deficit.
    5. October 7, 2023, was the greatest day of killing in the Jewish state of Israel.
    6. Regular daily life in Israel includes siren alerts, missiles, and running to safe rooms.
    7. There is so much trauma; we all have it.
    8. October 7 was a humanitarian crisis, not a Jewish attack.
    9. Show vulnerability without pride and let people help you.
    10. Find the balance between engaging in the fight and taking care of yourself. We have to fight for the things we have to fight for, but we need to take care of ourselves and fill our cups so we can fight.
    11. We must do the work with love. Ask yourself what love you can bring to the fight.
    12. Believe in HOPE and go make it happen.
    13. Go find your passion and do it.
    14. We can all find resilience within us.
    15. We need heart and humanity everywhere, regardless of race, religion, and politics.

Caron, residing in Syracuse, NY is an RN, breathwork facilitator, and heart attack survivor, transforming life’s challenges into stories of hope and healing. With warmth and insight, she shares wisdom with her TEDx talk, “Permission to Grieve,” shaped by the sudden loss of her mother at 13. When she’s not sharing her story and listening to others share theirs, Caron is enjoying music, reading, tossing a frisbee, or wandering the woods. She is fueled by family, friends, curiosity, and a passion for inspiring others to navigate the unexpected.

    Caron's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Grief is so much more than feeling sad over death.
    2. Shame is a huge part of any addiction.
    3. Addiction doesn't know which emotion it is squelching. It could just as easily dull joy as it does pain.
    4. Make changes for yourself, not for anyone else.
    5. Stories come from experiences. We believe them because they're all we know. Stories create survival mechanisms. But we don't need the stories or the survival mechanisms when we're not living in the trauma anymore.
    6. Advocate for yourself with respect to health. Our time is just as valuable as a doctor's.
    7. Kindness. Do it and receive it.
    8. To deal with big and hard emotions: journal, rely on friends, feel them, and breathe.
    9. Everyone is worthy and makes a difference.
    10. Learn self-trust; practice it in small doses so you can know what it looks and feels like.
    11. There is a difference between secrecy and privacy. We're allowed to be private and we're only as sick as our secrets. Don't keep secrets, and know that you don't have to tell them to everyone.

Nicole Graev Lipson is the author of the memoir in essays Mothers and Other Fictional Characters. Her writing has appeared in The Sun, Virginia Quarterly Review, LA Review of Books, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and Marie Claire, among other venues. Her work has been awarded a Pushcart Prize, shortlisted for a National Magazine Award, and selected for The Best American Essays anthology. Originally from New York City, she lives outside of Boston with her husband and children.

    Nicole's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Needing an income paves a career path for women that takes them away from creative pursuits, and that career can become their identity.
    2. Trying to be the kind of mother who doesn't mess up her kids, is patient, self-sacrificing, and doting leads to a loss of her creative side.
    3. Mothers have been taught that the child's growth and success is linked to their every move and that there's no room for error, making it difficult for them to be creative.
    4. Nothing makes a woman realize life is fleeting like parenthood. Time is finite, so use it the way your heart wants.
    5. Many of our experiences prove valuable and impactful even when we don't realize it at the time.
    6. The art of writing helps bring understanding to confusing topics.
    7. There's nothing more dynamic than parenthood. We're growing, our kids are changing, and the world is in constant flux.
    8. "Unspeakable topics" are only unspeakable until someone has the courage to speak them.
    9. Safety makes vulnerability and complexity possible.
    10. "Maternal Solitude Deficit" explains mothers wanting to be there for their kids and wanting to be alone.
    11. It is incumbent upon mothers to act differently; we have a role we have in creating conditions around us.
    12. Say NO to things you don't want to do.
    13. Be forgiving with oneself, even if it's hard to resist societal pressures. Go easy on yourself.

When the world shut down in 2022, Laura Cohen’s world turned upside down in a much more personal way - her 16-year-old daughter was diagnosed with an eating disorder. As a former Registered Dietitian, Laura found herself navigating unfamiliar and emotionally challenging terrain, seeking answers far beyond clinical training. What she discovered sparked a transformation - not just in how she supported her daughter, but in how she viewed food, “wellness”, and the broader culture around both.
Today, Laura serves as a Lead Family Mentor with Equip, helping other families find their footing during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. She has shifted both personally and professionally from a background rooted in traditional dietetics to embracing an anti-diet, recovery-informed approach. Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Coordinated Dietetics from Syracuse University, a Master of Science in Food and Nutrition from NYU, and an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University.
Laura brings both lived experience and professional insight to the conversation—grounded, compassionate, and always learning alongside the families she serves.

    Laura's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. What is "healthy"? Get in touch with what feels good in your body. Healthy is not defined by social construct. Someone else's definition is BS.
    2. Weight is not a health marker.
    3. Society and medical world are fatphobic. They shame, ignore, and dismiss people who are fat, overweight, or larger-bodied.
    4. Changing habits should not be linked to a number on the scale. If you want to change to healthy habits, do it because you want to, not because someone shames you.
    5. Smaller body does not equal healthy. Having a smaller body does not have anything to do with you how you feel.
    6. Anorexia does not mean a small body.
    7. Social determinants of health are: connection, sleep, safety, access to food with nutrients, healthcare, stress management, and joyful movement.
    8. Body autonomy means doing what you want for your body, and knowing what and why you're doing it.
    9. Eating disorders increase in middle age, which is a step backwards from all the work women have done over the years to learn to appreciate our bodies.
    10. As you age, your body changes. It's natural, so why are we told by society that it's a bad thing??
    11. You choose what's important to focus on when you're aging, but make sure you're choosing for you and not for someone else.
    12. Instead of soothing emotions with food and drink, try: personal growth, DBT skills, self-talk, being honest with self, play online games, exercise in a way that feels good, fresh air, be with dogs, binge watch shows, and read.
    13. Find connection... somewhere... with likeminded people. Online friends are great!
    14. Find peace within yourself somewhere. You don't need external validation. Enjoy being with your thoughts.

Hunter Clarke-Fields is the host Mindful Parenting Podcast (Top 0.5% podcast ), global speaker, number 1 bestselling author of “Raising Good Humans” and “Raising Good Humans Every Day,” Mindfulness Meditation teacher and creator of the Mindful Parenting Course and Teacher Training.Hunter has over 20 years of experience in meditation and yoga practices and has taught mindfulness to thousands worldwide.

    Hunter's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. "How to respond" advice sucks. To parent mindfully, you must have a foundation of self-care and awareness of your needs, which will help you be less reactive, use your whole brain, and not just freak out. And, you need skillful communication.
    2. When a kid has a problem and goes into fight, flight, or freeze, what they need is to feel seen and for us as parents to acknowledge what they're saying and feeling. Offering solutions and advising creates a barrier to communication and builds resentment.
    3. Instead of offering solutions and advising, try reflective listening, asking, "What do you need from me?"
    4. Shaming, blaming, ordering, and offering advice aren't welcome. Instead, try I messages. Tell the child how their behavior makes you feel.
    5. Culture tells us a lie that teens are supposed to hate their parents so we give up on trying. You are in a relationship with your kids, and you want to cultivate closeness.
    6. Win-win problem solving offers the opportunity empowering conversations. Say, "This is what needs to happen. Help me solve the problem." Best done over ice cream.
    7. It's never too late to work on your relationship with your kids. Sure, it's hard to learn a new language, and you'll mess up. You have permission to be human. What you practice grows stronger.

    Kristina's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Midlife women go through an identity crisis - it happens because we realize we don't have infinite amounts of time and we want more.
    2. Try this exercise: reach out to 5 people you love and ask how they see you and what they think your strengths are.
    3. Putting yourself first isn't easy, so start by taking one brave action such as starting your day powerfully. Carving out time for yourself in the morning tells your brain and body that you matter.
    4. Stop beating yourself up for being a people pleaser; it's a result of thousands of years of conditioning.
    5. Why are we inauthentic? Because we are afraid of losing people.
    6. When you are vulnerable with people, your relationships deepen.
    7. To deal with tech, curate your social media feed, leave your phone at home when you go out with loved ones, and post without scrolling.
    8. It's okay to disagree and speak up for yourself.
    9. If you live inauthentically, you will be unhappy. We must have the courage to be authentic; our happiness depends on it.
    10. Gratitude is the easiest first step toward living authentically. Wake up and write down 3 things you're grateful for and look at the list in a week. Notice the magic that comes your way.
    11. Give yourself permission to rest, work at your own pace, and do things your own way.

    Ginger's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. We should all have clothing we love. We need to be more discriminating.
    2. Veganism is more than what you eat. It's what you wear and the products you use.
    3. Wool and silk are not environmentally friendly. Do your research.
    4. You can look good in a lot of things, but if you don't feel great, then you won't wear them.
    5. A capsule wardrobe doesn't mean white button down and little black dress. It's the streamlined items that you love and can wear interchangeably.

Today she writes from her cottage in Hampshire, England.

    BA's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Self-belief: experience rejection then feel rage or disappointment then think, "I am gonna make it." If somebody says you can't, show them you can.
    2. Women are famous for being selfless and putting their families first. Where in your life can you have something that's yours?
    3. It's better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.
    4. Since fact is stranger than fiction, it makes sense that women readers find themselves in her books, and fortunately have found the courage to act.
    5. BA wrote The Dilemma because she felt people should ask themselves, "How far would you go to protect your loved ones and give them a few more hours of joy?"

She energizes no-BS women to take back their power, reignite their passions, and step off the sidelines. Guiding clients toward finding their authenticity is a cornerstone of her work. Her clients want to feel calm, confident, free, and excited about life.

Jenny helps them learn strategies for managing stress and creating balance so they don't get buried in work or family and actually make time for themselves, guilt-free.

In addition to coaching and facilitating workshops, Jenny leads a community on Facebook, and she is the host of the Sideline Sisters podcast that showcases stories of badass, yet relatable, women doing really cool stuff in the world.

    Jenny's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Take time to honor yourself.
    2. Personal growth is work.
    3. We choose how we live our lives and how we show up.
    4. How we behave today is a direct result of our past experiences.
    5. Our minds create stories; stories affirm identities; identities create more stories. It's a vicious cycle.
    6. Somatic practices like breathwork, shaking, and screaming help us process energy.
    7. SHE is our highest self. Ask, "What would SHE do?"
    8. Rain falls, birds fly, flowers grow, and some event happened. That's it. No story.
    9. Responding is different from reacting. Reacting is impulsive and often aggressive. Responding is intentional.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and two cats.

    Michelle's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. We all want to feel accepted, and that might mean getting involved in things outside of school or work. It's important to find community.
    2. Learn what you can handle and do it with excellence.
    3. Shut out the noise and advocate for yourself.
    4. When we think of disabilities, we immediately think of physical issues, but some disabilities aren't visible.
    5. Focus on the things you CAN do, and allow yourself to feel happy and empowered.
    6. Find solutions for everyday problems. Find what works for you. It's not about overcoming the disability; it's about finding a way around some of the barriers in society.
    7. I can't control other people; I can only control my response and how much time and energy I spend with them and on the problem.
    8. Writing can give you a voice and allow you to forgive.
    9. A disability is only part of a person's identity.

After fifteen years designing the interiors of beautiful homes and offices, Alejandra found herself missing something. She took a break from work and focused on her most important client – herself. Her mental and emotional interior needed a reboot. She found that in Feng Shui.

Working with and studying under a Feng Shui master practitioner helped Alejandra unlock a new and wonderful set of principles to combine with years of high-end design success. With these combined experiences, Alejandra delivers beautifully designed spaces that improve the lives of her clients, their employees, and their families.

At age 50, Alejandra began her spiritual journey. Coupled with the training she experienced in Feng Shui, her awakening brought her new insight into the mystical world of infinite possibilities and abundance.

Alejandra experiences true inner joy when she sees the impact of her service on the lives of her clients. Her mission is to enhance far more than the appearance of their home or office, but to improve their well-being and lifestyle in a way they had not imagined.

Alejandra and her husband live in sunny Tampa. When not working with her clients on inspired interior design and the art of Feng Shui, Alejandra enjoys crystals and gardening. Alejandra loves spending time with family and friends and can be found traveling around the world, especially to see their son and his fiance.

    Alejandra's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Feng Shui started in China 4000-6000 years ago so emperors could find the best locations for temples, palaces, and burial grounds.
    2. You want to live where things are thriving.
    3. Feng Shui is about finding harmony, balance, and flow in your space.
    4. When the student is ready, the teacher appears.
    5. You spend 1/3 of your life in the bedroom, and what you're surrounding yourself with impacts you. Think about colors, exercise equipment, mirrors, electronics, bedding materials, headboard, and bed frame.
    6. Something is only a problem if it's a problem.
    7. The Bagua map organizes a space into 9 areas: career, knowledge and self-cultivation, family, wealth and prosperity, fame and reputation, love and relationships, children and creativity, travel and helpful people, and health. You need to work with the whole map, not just one area.
    8. Feng Shui is not transactional. You're trying to creat an overall environment that provides and invites opportunity.
    9. "I want everything I do to be in my and everyone involved's highest good.
    10. When you're out of your comfort zone, you grow.

Hot Or Just Me? offers trusted products, expert advice and a community of support.Inspired by her own experiences with perimenopause symptoms like hot flashes, brain fog, anxiety, insomnia, night sweats, and more, Carin’s mission is to empower women to navigate these life transitions with confidence. Previously, Carin made history as the first American woman and first Hispanic person to create a Scotch whisky brand with SIA Scotch Whisky, an award-winning blend she launched through a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. She also founded the Entrepreneurial Spirit Fund by SIA Scotch, which has provided over $350,000 in grants to underserved entrepreneurs. Carin's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Hot flashes, night sweats, unpredictable periods, brain fog, heart palpitations, anxiety, hair loss, insomnia, vaginal dryness, body aches, decreased libido, and weight gain are common perimenopause symptoms. What can you do besides HRT?
    2. Let's normalize feeling DISENCHANTED, especially with midlife life changes.
    3. Imposter syndrome is normal. Claim to be the expert and be okay with the discomfort.
    4. Many women were raised with messages like, "Suck it up. Power through it. Make our sacrifice worth it."
    5. Midlife is the era of "zero f*cks to give," being done with the BS, and honoring the fire in your belly.
    6. The world is full of possibility. What do you want to spend your time doing?
    7. Talk to yourself like you're talking to a best friend.
    8. Optimize your sleep, because sleeps affects everything: brain fog, concentration, ability to make good food choices, whether you exercise, interest in sex. Improve sleep with: cooling sheets, supportive sleepwear, adjusting temperature, eye mask, ear plugs, layer clothing, and Carin's cooling bracelet.
    9. Doctors receive very little hormone and menopause training. Don't assume they know everything about your body. Check menopause.org website.
    10. ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF.
    11. You are not alone. Talk openly with friends and family. Give yourself compassion.

She is the author of Always Too Much and Never Enough and The VegNews Guide to Being a Fabulous Vegan. She's the host of the long-running, Webby-recognized Our Hen House podcast, The VegNews Podcast, and the TV and radio program, Environmental Connections -- which is part of her work with WXXI, Rochester, NY's PBS and NPR member station. After decades in NYC and Los Angeles, she now lives in Rochester where she enjoys making heartfelt-but-extremely-amateur crafts, moving around her furniture, and laughing with her wife, Moore.Jasmin's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Women relate to Jasmin's story because there are a lot of people struggling with a lot of things. The side-by-side truths mean that it can all be so.
    2. Veganism can be an extension of our beliefs about the exploitation of women's bodies, and how we feel about women's rights. It's a demonstration of feminism, because food is no longer about me and my body, it's about all the other bodies.
    3. Our whole adulthood is about healing from our childhood.
    4. Thin privilege is a toxic reality.
    5. People are complex, layered, and constantly changing, just like our definition of success. What are we trying to do with this one, precious life?
    6. Are we living in alignment with our belief systems?
    7. To deal with anxiety/depression, try: medication, going to friends for difficult discussions, take care of and be cared for by your spouse, pets, make aligned choices, don't overindulge in "feeling work."
    8. To deal with conflict, have an internal temper tantrum, then say a supportive mantra to yourself: I'm here, I've got you, I'll sit with you until you feel safe, seen and heard. Comfort your inner child and be your own regulator.
    9. You're exactly where you're supposed to be, and recognize that you've had so much success already.

    Emme's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. When one family member is going through a hard time, it's felt energetically by all. We all affect each other.
    2. This is not the time to pretend that everything is great. But we also need to remember that where we place our focus is what we attract, so don't stay in the negative.
    3. Going for your dreams and getting out of your comfort zone doesn't have to be painful.
    4. "When the pain of not changing is greater than the change itself, that's when we change."
    5. When opportunity knows, if we're not aware of how we feel, we'll walk away from an opportunity that came to give us everything we wanted.
    6. I get to choose where my mindset rests and resides.
    7. Choose the truth you want to embrace.
    8. Give yourself hugs, meditate, get in nature and give gratitude, listen to calming music and hood in to powerful universal energy, get together in community
    9. Be a disruptor: don't say yes to everything, be picky, honor your time, and use your voice.
    10. When we feel better about ourselves, we care about the environment, eat good food, not talk badly about others, and give our bodies water, sleep, activity, and peace and quiet.
    11. The blame game keep us stuck.
    12. Believe in yourself, dream, and give yourself a chance.

Mick lost her brother to suicide in 1996 and runs a non profit CIC called Suicide Sucks. Suicide Sucks is predominantly a podcast where she interviews guests in her camper van with a cup of tea and the dog to cosy up to. She interviews guests who have made attempts on their life but are still here to tell the tale, showing that hope can prevail. Mick also advocates the importance of mental health and well-being and runs sessions in her local community called Reconnect with Nature. These sessions involve awakening your sensors, practising gratitude, doing a focused activity and finally some grounding. Mick has also developed an online experience in order to make nature more accessible to those, who for various reasons, maybe disability, anxiety or agoraphobia, are unable to leave their house.

    Mick's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. It's interesting how different grief is for everybody. We get scared to show our emotions because it might upset someone else.
    2. It's normal to feel anger with grief. The person left us and missed everything that's happened in our lives.
    3. Emotional pain manifests in the body as physical pain.
    4. Unfortunately, it's not socially acceptable to accept anger in public.
    5. Take the time to do the inner work. Move stuck energy and make space for new. If you've got a blockage, find a way that suits you to heal.
    6. Reconnect with nature. It's free, available, and make sure to use all the senses to immerse yourself.
    7. Getting in nature virtually has the same benefits as being there for real. It's perfect for everyone, even those with disabilities, anxiety, and agoraphobia.
    8. Get Vitamin G - grounding in nature. The feet have over 200,000 nerve endings that communicate with the brain.
    9. To heal grief, there must be talking. It's not only good for your own healing, but it gives permission to others to express their feelings and tell their story.
    10. Grief is a sad club. Find your gang of people who relate because they've been there.

Tabatha Jones is the CEO of Empowered Leadership Coaching, a Career Advancement & Leadership Coach, author. With 20+ years of leadership experience, she took the leap from corporate America into coaching at the age of 50 where she now helps ambitious women break through career barriers, build unshakable confidence, and secure promotions faster. Her clients achieve leadership success by developing strategic career plans, elevating their visibility, and positioning themselves as top candidates for advancement. She specializes in working with gen-x women who are done playing small and want to make the next years the best of their career!

    Tabatha's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Are you sidelining yourself by not taking action, driving your career, or advocating for yourself? Can you try saying, "Here are some of my accomplishments and why I'm ready and suitable for the job"?
    2. As women, we let people tell us who we are and what we bring.
    3. If you aren't feeling well -- migraines, insomnia, fatigue -- go to your doctor. And if your PCP isn't helpful, see a naturopath.
    4. "You're not a tree, you can move." And even if you are a tree, you can be dug up and transplanted elsewhere. YOU AREN'T STUCK! Even money doesn't have to hold you back. Make little changes.
    5. Women have to get out of their own way and be better about talking up their value and what we bring to the world.
    6. Set SMART goals for career and life. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
    7. To build the confidence to advocate for yourself, start writing down things you're most proud of, so you can see your impact. There are so many things we do that we forget because we have lost our confidence along the way.
    8. Journaling helps get negative thoughts out of your head. Ask yourself, "Is this true?" Most of the stuff we tell ourselves isn't; they are just things we heard at some point and decided to believe.
    9. See yourself through other people's eyes. Ask trusted friends, "How do you see me? What is the most impactful thing I've done for you? What is something you believe I should be proud of?"
    10. Women have a hard time accepting compliments -- just say thank you and sit with it.
    11. PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION. PERFECTION KEEPS YOU IN PLACE.
    12. Comparison is the thief of joy.
    13. Women need to start owning their power when it comes to protecting their time.

Dr. Cathleen Brown (lovingly referred to as "Dr. Cat") is a board-certified OB/GYN from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who serves as a clinician caring for women in midlife at Winona.com while also serving as the medical director. She also maintains an active hospital position as an OB laborist providing vital inpatient coverage to laboring moms at Jefferson Abington Hospital in the Philadelphia suburbs several times a month. Dr. Cat is an Army veteran and stout advocate for her patients. She has dedicated her career to women's health and is committed to helping women throughout their lifespan. When not practicing medicine, she spends time in her garden, going to see live music, and savoring every moment she can with her 3 amazing kids.

Dr. Cat's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. 100% of women will experience menopause.
    2. Medical students get little education on menopause, perimenopause, and hormone replacement therapy.
    3. The average age for a woman in menopause is 52, but women can experience symptoms for up to 10 years. Menopause is defined as a full year without a period and being over 50. After that, women are post-menopausal.
    4. Symptoms of menopause overlap symptoms of other conditions -- brain fog, sleep issues, irritability, sexual side effects, weight gain, hair changes, skin changes, and joint pain. There are over 100 symptoms of menopause.
    5. Symptoms are evidence of the issue. Lab tests don't need to prove what you already know is true.
    6. We need to empower women with knowledge about their bodies so they can recognize when things are changing. If you start to notice subtle changes, jot them down in a symptom journal. Information is powerful.
    7. There are options for lifestyle changes if hormone replacement therapy is avoided, starting with dietary changes. Stay away from processed food -- we don't know how the chemical compounds in them react in our bodies. We also don't tend to notice our hunger and satiety signals, and we don't pay attention to how food makes us feel.
    8. If you don't feel listened to, get a second opinion. Women need to feel empowered to keep going until they're listened to and offered the treatment they want.
    9. We're our best version of our selves when our hormones are optimized.
    10. Ways we can support our bodies through menopause include exercising, eating a nutrient-rich diet, and possibly including phytoestrogens and supplements.
    11. Menopause should not be dreaded; it doesn't have to be your decline.

    Rachel's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Social media promotes what you don't have. Get clear on your value system so you're less impressionable on what's missing.
    2. A big part of success is not what you know, but resilience. Be the last person standing.
    3. Bottom line can't drive a business. It's people first.
    4. SPARKLE FACTOR is wanting to leave the world better. Be community-minded, and have a strong rooting of values.
    5. Fashion is about authentic self-expression.
    6. Women need to stop worrying about being judged by others.
    7. What you consume and who you spend time with is how you look at yourself and who you become.

She is the creator of the blog site, justbeingjill.com and also writes under the pen name, Margo Reilly. In her latest work, she details her journey of self-acceptance and healing after learning she was not exactly who she thought she was after taking an Ancestry DNA test. She is eager to share how she navigated her identity crisis in hopes of inspiring others to find their way forward.Jill's Notes from the Sidelines:

    Jill's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Be relatable. There's no such thing as perfect.
    2. Don't think you don't have a problem just because you're not hurting anyone else.
    3. In all the lessons, there's a blessing.
    4. We have to choose ourselves. All the things that happened with our parents helped shape us, but we decide what we're taking into the future.
    5. It's amazing what happens when we start writing down our stories. The excavation is cathartic.
    6. Get curious about the patterns that are repeating in your family and decide to be the cycle breaker. Speak the shame out loud.
    7. The messy middle never goes away. You're always going to be in the thick of something; you have to rely on yourself and find the wisdom within to get through it.
    8. We all have traumas -- whether it's big T or little T trauma. You have things in your life that you didn't like. Decide what is yours and what is theirs.
    9. Just because they're your family doesn't mean you have to deal with them, like them, put up with them, or open your door to them. Don't feel obligated to anyone.
    10. It's never too late to start the work.
    11. People who think they're sailing through life need to get curious about fulfillment.
    12. Find a community of like-minded people.

Bailey Ruskus, also known as Chef Bai, is a seasoned chef, activist, and holistic nutrition and health coach. Classically trained at Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco, she uses her culinary expertise to create rich flavors with nourishing ingredients and has been a professional chef for the last 14 years. She is an advocate for people with chronic health ailments, animal welfare, and the environment. Her own plant-based journey started with her desire to heal her chronic pain from a 16-year battle with endometriosis after exhausting all other options. She furthered her studies with a certification in plant-based nutrition from T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and is a certified Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Bailey now owns her business with her husband, Steve. The author of bestselling cookbook, Breaking Up With Dairy. Bailey lives in sunny San Diego, California, with Steve and their two rescue pups, Coconut and Pina.

    Bailey's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. There is a link between diet and female issues. Your doctor is just one tool in the toolbelt.
    2. Doctors are good, well-meaning people, but they've only received an average of 5 hours of nutrition training.
    3. Keto, paleo, carnivore and ancestor diets...oh my! Neanderthals only lived long enough to procreate. We need to evolve our diets for our longevity and the planet's.
    4. With social media, there's so much misinformation, targeted ads, and government lobbying.
    5. Government subsidies give a false sense of low cost to the production of meat and dairy. It's actually very expensive.
    6. You need to have compassion for yourself and realize no one is coming to save you.
    7. It's not just animals suffering within the food industry, so are the workers! Cities with slaughterhouses have higher rates of domestic violence, suicide, alcoholism, and drug addiction.
    8. Lobbying and ads target our pleasure centers, so we don't connect to the suffering.
    9. "Your genetics hold the gun, but your diet pulls the trigger." If you blame your condition on genetics, you release all the power.
    10. Casomorphins in dairy create chemical reactions that cause a dopamine release, leading you to feel safe.Dairy is cow breast milk!
    11. The first stage of "Breaking Up With Dairy" is denial. Understand what dairyreallyis and then treat yourself like an addict; deal with being uncomfortable and having cravings.
    12. Most people wait until it's too late. Be your own savior.
    13. Start small.
    14. Make choices for your future self.
    15. If you want to make a big change, don't tell your friends or family.
    16. Bai's ideas for how to glow from within: daily smoothie, no-sugar green juice, juicing, dessert earlier in the day, no refined sugar. Use natural fiber pillowcases, wash pillowcases every week, sleep with hair in bun. Bai's skincare regimen: in the evening -- oil cleanser to remove makeup, wipe with wet, clean washcloth, elta md foaming cleanser, tone, vitamin E oil every other day (alternate with retinol), moisturizer, eye cream, blue algae oil. In the morning -- don't wash face, tone, vitamin C serum, hyaluronic acid, moisturizer, sunscreen.
    17. Have strong boundaries with yourself, expectations , and people in your life.

Melissa Newman was blessed to be born into an artistic family. Primarily an artist and jazz vocalist, she is also a writer and third generation teacher. She lucked into a lucrative career singing jingles, and around the same time began assistant teaching in various disciplines at a women’s correctional facility in New York, a role she would continue in for almost twenty years. She has also continued to lead art and vocal workshops in various other communities. As a visual artist she has designed everything from packaging to theater posters to tattoos, and has shown her porcelain sculptures and paintings in galleries in New York and Connecticut. She also performs with her jazz trio and quartet.

    Melissa's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Growing up with celebrities, like any larger-than-life parents, can leave one with a feeling of living in shadows.
    2. When you experience good fortune, ask what you can do for the world.
    3. Try not to make assumptions about others; people are almost never what you think they are.
    4. In some scenarios, ego development can leave you wondering if you are important. Remember that you do get to feel important, especially as a mom.
    5. Feeling critical of what you said and did in different situations is totally normal.
    6. Talking to strangers allows you to get out of the ego self and thinking of others.
    7. All kids need to be successful in the world is unconditional love and chores.
    8. Advice learned from Paul and Joanne: respect each other's job and daily accomplishments, have a shared love of music and art, be passionate and sweet to each other, and love each other
    9. Take care of yourself as you age, and stretch!
    10. Everybody has something to offer.
    11. Compliment people.
    12. Your opinion is valid.

    Laura's Notes from the Sidelines:

You deserve to be happy and not compromise. We are allowed to say, "This is not okay," and we can turn our pain into purpose, because we can't let it derail us. Sometimes you have to go back and heal your younger version... it's called inner child work. Whether you experienced Big T or little T trauma, don't dismiss it because it was in the past. You can heal and introduce play. Families have unwritten rules and dynamics that can stop us from being our true selves. If you don't put yourself out there and share your story, the people who need to hear it won't have their growth opportunity. We all want someone to talk to, but we've been societalized to shame misery and unpleasant feelings. SHAME IS BROKEN IN COMMUNITY AND CONVERSATION! We have to love ourselves enough to go through this world real and authentic. Some people won't like that you've set up boundaries, but boundaries are the ultimate act of self-love. The people who don't like your boundaries are the ones who benefitted from you not having any. When you get a compliment, say THANK YOU.

Dr. Hall is the medical director and founder of The Hall Center, a holistic medical center specializing in women's health, detox, weight loss, and daily feeling full of life. She started as a traditional gynecological surgeon and transitioned her career to focus on regenerative and integrated medicine. Recognizing the urgent need to tackle stubborn aging symptoms, she focuses solely on regenerative medicine, aiming to address root causes and promote optimal health without relying on pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Hall is passionate about guiding clients to attain peak well-being and proactively ward off the expected decline, employing established natural and regenerative approaches.

Dr. Hall's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. With traditional medicine, we're putting bandaids on diseases; let's go to the root cause.
    2. When menopause happens, estrogen is gone because the ovaries stop working, resulting in increased stress, blood sugar, LDL cholesterol, and inflammation... which is the perfect storm for cancer.
    3. We're energetic beings; each person is unique.
    4. Functional medicine looks at the whole body and takes a multi-cause approach to prevention. Whereas western, traditional medicine doesn't do prevention.
    5. As Joseph Campbell says, "Follow your bliss."
    6. Extended use of the birth control pill can result in brain fog, depression, fatigue, inability to concentrate, uncertainty about sexuality, and weight gain.
    7. Estrogen is very important for the brain and is critical for the prevention of neurodegeneration.
    8. Individualizing medicine and taking genetics into account is not the traditional method, but it is the functional method.
    9. When it comes to your health, seek out the top people in the field and listen to them for your medical information.
    10. Advice for menopausal women: recognize the symptoms in your body, have the confidence to tell your doctor what you need because you know your body best, and go to a skilled practitioner who's used to looking at hormones.
    11. Follow your bliss, explore who you are, be in service, break the rules, and love deeply

Tina Hoefer is a mother, domestic abuse survivor, thriver, and activist for change in this arena. Tina was involved with NFL linebacker, Shaun Phillips, with whom she had twin boys. The relationship became physically and emotionally abusive, causing fear, turmoil, and financial strain. Her sons were born premature with serious medical issues, and Tina was left to care for them and fight a lengthy, and still unresolved, battle for child support. She turned her pain into power and purpose, by putting her story out there, starting the "Know Your Power" movement, and supporting as many women as she possibly can.

    Tina's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. Be thankful for the things right in front of you.
    2. If you go about your business and take care of what's important to you, eventually you can deal with other things as they come up. Every day is a new day.
    3. If you can get through what you already got through, then you know you can get through anything. Trust your instincts and intuition.
    4. Don't focus on the negativity.
    5. You have your own situation and you have to look at yourself and know you're the only one who knows all the pieces to your puzzle. Dig deep and know what you want for yourself and your kids.
    6. Take control, decide, and let go. Don't beat yourself up if you're not financially secure. Put together a plan, write down daily goals, check them off as you finish them, and if you don't know where to start... as someone for help.
    7. Open your ears, listen, and be receptive.
    8. There are so many caring people in this world and people who want friends.
    9. Don't make any big decisions in one day; take a moment to sit with it.
    10. Come forward with your story; don't stay quiet.
    11. Utopia is not a fairytale. It's being grateful for the day today, and being of sound mind and health so you can move forward.

Mignon Francois is a speaker, entrepreneur, and community leader who has inspired thousands with her "Follow Your Spirit" approach. After years of drowning in debt and brokenness, Mignon founded The Cupcake Collection in 2008, a business that started from the last five dollars she had to feed her family dinner for one week, and she turned it into a legacy with over 5 million cupcakes sold. Mignon's grassroots story of success has garnered national attention from such media outlets as Today with Hoda and Jenna, Southern Living, Entrepreneur, Business Insider, just to name a few. Today Mignon is committed to teaching anyone who will listen what they can do if only they believe.

    Mignon's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. A village of supportive and championing sisters makes all the difference.
    2. Nothing just happens. All things are working for your good. Hope leads to opportunity.
    3. It won't always be like this.
    4. Everybody's challenges are different and they are all hard and real, but you will not be given anything you don't have the capacity to change and bear.
    5. "God transcends religion...Religion is our perspective on where we saw the accident happen at the intersection...It's our interpretation."
    6. You have to have a vehicle for hope.
    7. When facing challenges, know that you are in a season of growth and something big is about to happen.
    8. "Speak what you seek 'til you see what you said." The words we say have power. We call HIM into collaboration with us by simply speaking our words. He's always listening, so be careful.
    9. You don't have to stay stuck; you don't have to accept current circumstance as a sentence.
    10. Hope and doubt are both beliefs - one positive and one negative. Your faith is in the middle, equidistant from both.
    11. HELP is a complete and sufficient prayer; you don't need other words because he's all-seeing and all-knowing.
    12. After asking for help, knock on the doors of opportunity, and don't stop just because one person says no.
    13. God sends us seasons to season us, so be ready when the season changes to do the new thing that has been sent to you.
    14. BELIEVE.

Steph Shanks is the owner of a successful portrait photography business in Baraboo Wisconsin. She became a teen mom at 16 to twins who spent 3 months in the NICU and, subsequently, have disabilities. She spent her entire life trying to please people; she really just wanted people to like her. When she turned 40, she realized how unhappy she was with the life that she created. She realized that she was giving everything away, and the people that she had closest to her relied upon that. Her second divorce happened shortly after that. She still battles with people pleasing, but she had to go through such a painful transition that she no longer feels like she puts other first.

    Steph's website

    Steph's podcast

    Steph's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. "He did me a favor." Sometimes we don't see the blessings that come with unfortunate circumstances.
    2. Fact is stranger than fiction.
    3. When you learn how to pick yourself up from nothing, it burns away all the negative self-talk because you prove yourself against your own thoughts.
    4. You CAN afford to leave; you'll figure it out.
    5. Life is too short to be on the floor crying in the bathroom.
    6. There are no mistakes; life is what it is.
    7. The more you can talk about the things you've been through, the more you realize that there are no mistakes; life can just be really hard sometimes, and life can be really great, but it doesn't make you a bad or good person.
    8. Trust your gut; it's always right. And don't give your power away.
    9. Find people who support you, and don't settle until you find someone, or multiple people, who worship the ground you walk on.

Jessica is a farm girl at heart, rooted in the rhythms of nature from tending alfalfa fields in her childhood. Now, as a mother to three remarkable women, she's continually inspired by their spirit, which fuels her determination to be the best version of herself.

Surviving cancer, stroke, and a heart transplant taught her to cherish every moment and embrace adventure as a dog mom, fisherwoman, and avid hiker. She's also a resilience coach, guiding others through life's challenges with wit, kindness, and generosity.

A master chef known for crafting delectable dishes that nourish body and soul, she's also passionate about hiking, fly fishing, reading, writing, and exploring new horizons.

Described as resilient, witty, and authentic, she's a beacon of strength and courage, facing life's storms with grace and determination. With an unyielding optimism and thirst for adventure, she believes in the power of kindness and human connection, guided by the mantra, "Embrace life, cherish every moment, and never lose sight of the blessings that surround you."

    Jessica's Notes from the Sidelines:

    1. We need to be mindful of others because maybe they're going through something and not just deliberately being unkind.
    2. Not only should we have compassion for others, but we should have patience and compassions for ourselves.
    3. Be curious -- ask yourself, "Would it be possible... I wonder what would happen if I did this?"
    4. Make sure to prioritize yourself and communicate your needs to others.
    5. Remember, it's not happening TO ME, but FOR ME. Maybe there's a lesson and it will make me more grateful.
    6. To accept lack of control and practice patience, feel the frustration in your body, find something grounding, and go back to basics and feel grateful and accomplished, and then FEEL JOY.
    7. Gratitude + Joy = Resilience
    8. I can control how I feel and show up.
    9. Do the basics: gratitude journal, set intention for the day, and see joy and do joyful things
    10. It's not selfish to prioritize yourself; don't feel guilty about it.
