In this week's episode we are talking about how you can stand out in the coaching industry. This is a question we are often asked by current coaches and those looking to train as coaches. There are lots of ways to stand out in what might seem like a crowded market. We are going to offer a number of suggestions today and the important thing is that you find what works best for you.
In this episode you will hear:
- how it is normal to feel a little lost when trying to position yourself as a coach
- about the importance of being yourself and showing your potential clients who you are and how you work
- what training and accreditation can give your coaching practice
- a number of CPD options to enable you to find your own signature style to stand out
- different methods of sharing your message and how they can set you apart from others in your industry
- the power of storytelling
- what it means to niche your business even if you feel resistant to the idea
We give you a number of ideas in this episode that relate to both independent coaches but also internal coaches too. The importance is not to see it as a one size fits all but a range of options that you can try to see which work best for you.
In this week's episode we are discussing ethical coaching. Ethics are at the centre of great coaching and helps to guide our practice but as the coaching industry is unregulated where can we turn to for our ethical framework?
We discuss:
- where we can turn to as coaches for an ethical framework
- a number of different examples of ethical dilemmas coaches might face
- our judgement as coaches and practitioners that needs to be developed within the code of ethics.
- the role of supervision to support us working through our ethical questions
- the importance of boundaries
- one ethics model that is incredibly useful for coaches
Ethical issues, although rare, are a great opportunity to tap into your experience as a coach and we hope we have given you a range of situations and frameworks to consider when wanting to be an ethical coach.
In this week's episode we are demonstrating how to coach emotions. We have chosen to demo this because many coaches and aspiring coaches struggle to know what good coaching looks like and also what you can achieve in a session.
In this session you will hear:
- Jo coach Zoe around her emotions on a specific subject
- tools that can be used and hearing them in the session itself
- how to use clean language questions
- how you can blend tools in a session
- it is possible to be playful in a coaching session
- the clarity that can be found in a short session
Some coaches are concerned about coaching around emotions but we can coach emotions that are very accessible. We coach everyday, healthy emotions so we don't need to avoid these situations.
In this week's episode we are talking all about how to structure a chemistry conversation. This is important so that we can set a coaching relationship up for success and it's an important part of the coaching journey.
We discuss:
- what a chemistry call is and why we offer them
- a semi structure for a chemistry call
- how you can explore what you are looking for in a potential client
- what you are sharing with the potential client
- how you can listen and space in a chemistry conversation
- confidentiality in this space
- how you can co create a coaching relationship from this type of call
- what to do if the client is not a right fit for you
Chemistry calls are a wonderful opportunity to do so many different things and to establish a good relationship prior to the coaching starting. In only a small amount of time you can lay firm foundations with a potential coachee or decide that they are not for you. There are so many benefits.
This week's episode was requested by a member of our Coaching Crowd group and also links to the core coaching competency around understanding self and others. We are delighted to talk about the importance of reflection as a coach and how it can be done effectively.
We discuss:
what reflective practice actually is
how your reflective practice might change from training to when you are actively coaching
the questions you can ask yourself to be reflective
the different types of reflection and which lens you use to look through
how to form a reflective practice and routing
how reflection can be seen as a chore but it can also be deeply enriching
how reflection is not just about noticing gaps but also about celebration
where and what spaces you can use to reflect within
how to develop a reflective practice that suspends self judgement
Reflection is the unsung hero of coaching and plays a part in being a great coach. It is important to remember that it is a skill that needs to be developed so have fun with this, be patient and stay curious.
In this week's episode we are talking about something that many people wonder about before making the leap from a corporate role into coaching. What are the career development opportunities available, how might a coaching career unfold and what can you aspire to achieve? We will answer these questions and give you some clarity.
We discuss:
if you can develop a career path as a coach like you can in the corporate world
the coaching world being an emerging industry which means that you can design your own pathway
reconnecting to what a meaningful career might look like to you
what your values mean to you and how they connect to your coaching journey
the different coaching models and additional trainings that can be completed to develop your progression pathway
The wonderful thing about a career in coaching is that you can design your own career pathways and opportunutues so that your career stays in line with your values and what you want to achieve.
In today's episode we are talking about coaching trends and predicitions for the future of coaching. This is a topic that has been requested by members in the coaching lounge and it is also useful to understand the future of an industry if you are an aspiring coach.
We discuss:
- The increase in demand for coaching services and the varied reason for this upward trend
- The need to ensure there is diversity within the coaching world
- Coaches thinking about what the role is they play in the world and what legacy they want to leave
- An increase in collaboration rather than seeing people competing
- The possible use of artificial intelligence within the coaching world. How will the experimentation become part of the industry
