In January 2022, the BACB's new Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts goes into effect. The new code represents a push toward viewing ethical decision making as a process of using guidance, values, science, and philosophy to make decisions on an everyday basis, as opposed to using the code as a "thou shalt not" list. The clinical application of ABA teaching techniques has been demonstrated to be useful in teaching functional skills in a variety of settings, but barriers to implementation are many. Fewer funding streams exist to support ABA services to transition-aged students and adults. Intensive 1:1 instruction can be time consuming and may also be unwanted by learners and caregivers. Naturally occurring competing reinforcers may result in learner disinterest in the instruction. Technological applications may help to eliminate or minimize the effects of such obstacles to learning.
