David Gillick is one of Ireland's greatest ever 400m runner, having distinguished himself admirably in his chosen field. He finished sixth in the world in 2009, and won the European Indoor Championships in 2005 and 2007. Along the way he beat some of the best athletes in the world and realized a lifetime ambition by competing at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
In recent times, David has appeared on Master Chef, and has authored 2 best selling cookbooks, Back on Track and David Gillick’s Kitchen, and retrained as a sports psychologist.
In this podcast, we discuss David's career highs, lows, thoughts on retirement, lessons he's learned as well as thoughts on the future.

Jamil Qureshi - The psychology of performance

Jamil Qureshi (@Jamil_Qureshi) is one of the foremost practitioners of performance psychology and an expert in high performance. As the co-founder of several change agencies - We Do Things Differently, Loudhouse and JQED - Jamil has worked with a rich diversity of the most talented business and sportspeople and teams in the world.
In 2006, he was appointed as the first-ever official psychologist to work with the European Ryder Cup team. They made history in winning by a record-equalling margin. In addition, Jamil has worked with 22 golfers inside the top 50 in the world, including two world number 1’s. His clients have included Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Paul McGinley, Graeme McDowell, Paul Casey, Thomas Bjorn and Sergio Garcia.
Ranked among the most influential figures in British sport in 2009, Jamil was voted in the top 100 most powerful men in golf 2008 by his international peers. And it doesn’t stop there. Jamil has worked successfully with three English Premiership football clubs, one of which reaching a record position from its halfway point in the season. He has worked with footballers from Manchester United FC, Manchester City FC, Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC, Fomula 1 drivers David Coulthard and Eddie Irvine and the 2009 England Ashes-winning cricketers.

Robbie Cannon - Athletic performance on and off the golf course

Robbie Cannon (@RobbieCannon) a qualified strength and conditioning coach, is probably best known for his performance work with golf Open Champion Shane Lowry. An accomplished golfer himself, he practices what he preaches and is three times Irish amateur golf champion.
Robbie through his company Cannon Performance works with golfers on the PGA and European Tour, as well as elite amateurs and the Irish golf men’s and ladies' national squads. Outside golf, he has trained elite athletes from many different sports, and this year Robbie is head of strength and conditioning for the Tipperary senior football team.

His latest book, The Business of Winning: Strategic Success from the Formula One Track to the Boardroom, exposes the behind-the-scenes management of a Grand Prix team ensuring business continuity, viability and profitability. Mark is an international speaker and consults with organisations globally through his consulting business Performance Insights.

Diarmaid Ferriter - Paths from the past: Making sense of Brexit and the extraordinary times we live in

As Professor of Modern History in UCD, Diarmaid Ferriter is one of Ireland’s best-known historians. Diarmaid is also a regular broadcaster on television and radio and a weekly columnist with the Irish Times. In 2010 he presented a three-part history of twentieth century Ireland, 'The Limits of Liberty', on RTE television. A colossus of Irish academia, Diarmaid has written over twelve books on Irish history. His books include The Transformation of Ireland 1900-2000, in 2007, Ferriter wrote the critically acclaimed biography, Judging Dev, which won in three categories of the 2008 Irish Book Awards. His most recent book, The Border, was published this year.
