090 What Is Your Plan B For Your Next Tennis Match?

jeudi 18 juin 2015Durée 10:10

Do you have a "Plan B" for every tennis match you play? If not, you need to get one and soon. Because the way you like to play tennis, the style of play that highlights your strengths and downplays your weaknesses, may not necessarily be the style of play that is going to win you the match. In this week's episode of Tennis Quick Tips, I'm talking about the importance of having more than one strategy to win a match.

089 How and Why to Split Step in Tennis

jeudi 11 juin 2015Durée 13:34

Are you using the split step in your tennis play? Many players think the split step is unnecessary.  Or not worth making the effort to use.  A lot of us aren't even sure what the split step is.  I used to be a player like that but, when I was ready to take my tennis up a notch, especially at the net, I realized I had to make the split step part of my game.  In this episode, I'll tell you just what the split step is, why you should be using it, and how you can incorporate it into your own tennis game.

088 How and When to Forfeit in Tennis

jeudi 4 juin 2015Durée 25:18

PLEASE NOTE THAT MY COMMENTS IN THIS EPISODE ARE REGARDING UNOFFICIATED MATCHES.  IN OFFICIATED MATCHES AND TOURNAMENTS, THE RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING LATENESS AND DEFAULTS APPLY.

In this week’s episode, we’re going to talk about something that … the bottom line is, it’s a matter of tennis etiquette, and I don’t think tennis etiquette is something that we hear too much about. We recreational players out there, whether we’re playing for fun or playing as part of a league, playing a tournament, we know that tennis etiquette is often just as important and impactful of what happens on the court as the rules. So in this episode, I’m going to talk a little about the rules and a lot about the etiquette of forfeiting a tennis match.

mercredi 27 mai 2015Durée 17:05

086 When Partners Disagree In Tennis

jeudi 21 mai 2015Durée 17:48

Isn't it fun playing doubles? You have the best partner in the world. You both play the same way, following the same strategy. You never disagree on what your tactics should be or who should have got that ball down the middle. And you never, ever disagree on calls.

What? That's not how your tennis partnership works? Well, frankly, I doubt if anyone's partnership works that well. So, what do you do when you and your partner disagree on a call? What if one partner calls a serve in and the other calls it out? Is it a let? Do you just replay the point? Is there any kind of rule on this?

I bet it's no surprise to hear that not only is there a rule, but I know about it because I've been in this situation. In this episode, I'll address a recent comment from "Anne" about this difficult situation.  I'll tell you what the tennis rules have to say about this and, hopefully, how you can avoid "doubles purgatory" when you get into a disagreement on calls with your partner.

084 How To Fake Poach In Tennis Doubles

jeudi 7 mai 2015Durée 09:39

Why aren't you poaching more? You know you should be and yet, you're so afraid that you'll get caught with a down-the-line return from your opponent that you keep standing there, flat-footed at the net and you never take a chance on poaching.  But have you tried fake poaching?  Fake poaching might be your ticket to poaching success.  In this episode, I'll explain what fake poaching is and why you should give it a try in your next match.
