Sofia Crespo is a generative artist working with neural networks and machine learning models - effectively blending these new technologies with biology-inspired concepts to produce incredibly unique outputs.

One of Sofia’s main focuses areas and underlying thesis, is the way organic life uses artificial mechanisms to simulate itself and evolve, implying that technologies are a biased product of the organic life that created them and not a completely separated object.

She is also passionate about creativity and the changing role of artists who are working with machine learning techniques.

Dasha Ilina & Benjamin Gaulon, No School Nevers | Tech+Art

Today we’re speaking with Dasha Ilina & Benjamin Gaulon - the co-founders of No School Nevers - an international summer school, held in Nevers in France, aimed at students, artists, designers, makers, hackers, activists and educators.

Dasha & Ben are also independent artists & creators outside of No School Nevers.

Dasha’s work explores the relationship we develop with the digital devices we use on a daily basis, specifically in regards to the human body - primarily centering around the concepts of care and technology.

Benjamin has previously released work under the name "recyclism". His research & work focuses on the limits and failures of information and communication technologies; planned obsolescence, consumerism and disposable society; ownership and privacy; hacking and recycling and more. His work spans several mediums and formats.

Patrik Hübner, Generative Designer | Tech + Art

Today we’re speaking with Patrik Hübner, an interdisciplinary designer who uses “creative algorithms” to explore fresh and meaningful stories at the intersection of design, art and data. By applying new and experimental techniques of data-driven creativity to his work with generative and interactive design systems and programming languages, he develops opportunities for brands and cultural institutions to set themselves apart by telling unique and meaningful stories.

Drawing from a rich background of 10+ years as a Creative Director for leading national and international brands, he nowadays constantly crosses the boundaries of art and design by researching emerging opportunities in branding, storytelling and human interaction.

He has worked with many leading international agencies and his work has won global recognition and numerous international and German design awards - including two D&AD pencils, a Creative Pool Award, World Brand Design Award, RedDot Design Award, German Design Award Special, ADC award, any many more.

His self-initiated work has been showcased in the context of design festivals, audio-reactive live-performances and interactive experiences – including the Digital Design Days/OFFF (Milan), re:publica (Berlin), JSNation Conference (Amsterdam), Platine Festival for digital art (Cologne), APT Expanding Systems (London), Berlin Leuchtet Festival (Berlin), Reset Festival for experimental culture (Muenster), Marta Museum for Art, Architecture and Design (Herford) and many more.

Anna Henson, XR + Immersive Design Research | Tech+Art

Anna’s work focuses on studying and surfacing the human side of technology - specifically how embodiment and social interaction design within new and emerging spatial computing technologies and immersive experiences is changing our relationship with each other, with technology and with the companies that are behind these new tools.

We had a very compelling conversation about technology, creativity and the important of a multidisciplinary community in this rapidly emerging industry.

Lauren Cason, XR Creative Director | Tech+Art

Anna Fusté, HCI Researcher & Creative Technologist | Tech+Art

Anna joins us to share her story as a creative technologist and researcher - a journey that’s included time with creative agency, being a part of Google Creative Lab, studying at MIT’s Media Lab and now focusing on R&D at PTC with their Reality Lab.

Anna shares her insights around creating amazing experiences and creative projects through simple prototyping techniques.

She is the creator of a really cool platform called HyperCubes - an augmented reality platform to help children understand computational concepts drawn from their physical surroundings.

Alexis Andre, Artist & Researcher | Tech+Art

Today we’re joined by Alexis André, a researcher at Sony’s Computer Science Laboratory (CSL) and generative artist.

Alexis is originally from France, but has lived in Tokyo for the last 15 years, pursuing his PhD. Through CSL, several of Alexis’ projects have been commercialized, including a new toy platform called Toio.

Alexis has also been involved in many personal projects that involve creative coding and generative media. From the launch of a music and visualization app called Eon, to his daily art project using a programming language called Nannou and more.

Today, his work focuses around creativity & entertainment - pushing the boundaries of individualized experiences and design forward through technology and procedural generation.

Mike Tyka, AI Artist & Scientist | Tech+Art

Coming from an academic background with a PhD in biophysics, Mike’s artistic work has focused both on traditional mediums as well as the uses of technology, such as 3D printing and artificial neural networks.

Mike also co-founded the Artists and Machine Intelligence program at Google.

Mike’s work has been showcased around the world from Seattle to Tokyo.

Kate Compton, Researcher & Maker | Tech+Art

Today we’re speaking with Kate Compton, an inventor, game designer, special effects artist, independent researcher.

She’s also an academic with the Expressive Intelligence Studio at UC Santa Cruz, which is a group of researchers studying new ways to connect computers and creativity, that includes everything from interactive storytelling to social simulations to laser-cut robots.

Kate has been working on Procedural Content Generation in a variety of contexts for more than ten years.

From research papers like “The Casual Creators”, to generative frameworks like Generominos, to video games,  to little games, wild experiments and more.
